To celebrate America’s 250th birthday, two upcoming exhibits in Stark County will highlight important female voices in art and politics. Honor the revolutionary women who redefined America’s past, present and future by visiting these inspiring Canton destinations. At the National First Ladies Library & Museum, The Eras Exhibit: 250 Years of First Ladies’ Progress and Power opened in May and explores the impact and leadership of America’s First Ladies — from Martha Washington to Jacqueline Kennedy to Michelle Obama. Get inspired and empowered through immersive displays and historic artifacts and learn how these legendary women influenced national diplomacy, policy and social change. The Eras Exhibit will be open through April 2027. The Canton Museum of Art marks its 90th anniversary and presents Shattered Glass: The Women Who Elevated American Art, opening Nov. 25. Featuring works by Georgia O’Keeffe, the Guerilla Girls, Wendy Red Star, Grandma Moses and others, this exhibit showcases female artists who broke barriers and challenged gender norms through photography, painting and sculpture — becoming some of the greatest creatives of the nation. Experience the exhibit and learn more about the women who made each piece until March 1, 2026.

To really get into the holiday spirit, a trip to Ohio Christmas Factory is in order. The 50,000-square-foot indoor space features Christmassy excitement for all ages around every corner. Meet Santa and other favorite holiday characters, decorate cookies at Mrs. Claus’ Bakery, take in the light show and build your very own Christmas teddy bear.

Calling all ghosts, ghouls and lovers of things that go bump in the night! This Halloween, celebrate the spookiest time of year with creepy entertainment galore. Run for your life at the Haunted Forest Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K. Through Canal Fulton and along the Towpath Trail, the courses are flat and speedy — and the marathon is a Boston qualifier, for those interested. If you succeed in running a new personal best, make sure to smash the PR pumpkin! Come October, jack-o-lanterns line the walls at That Pop Up Bar, known seasonally as That Halloween Bar. Bring your eeriest friends and try a pumpkin pie martini or screamsicle to get the party started. Stark County isn’t without its spirits; if you’re lucky (or unlucky!) you may even see them for yourself. Author and paranormal investigator Sherri Blake leads the Haunted History Walks of Canal Fulton,

where you can learn about spirits and ghosts while seeing local haunts like the Ohio and Erie Canal and the Old Pioneer Cemetery. And at Historic Zoar Village, ghost tours bring you face to face with spectres, who tell their stories by lantern light as you tour the village’s historic buildings. If you’re truly brave, venture to Fortress of Fear ScreamPark at Funtimes Fun Park. The haunted house tour leads you through the Fortress of Fear — the ruins of a fallen empire where evil lurks around every corner. If you make it out, wander over to the Fear Fair for carnival rides, oddities and, of course, more frights.
