MEETING NOTES
NEWS, TRENDS AND INSPIRATION

Hello, Cleveland
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s upcoming expansion promises to bring new event spaces that merge seamlessly with the existing museum.
BY MAGGIE AMACHER
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is turning up the volume on its event offerings with a 55,000-square-foot expansion set to open in 2026. This dedicated multipurpose space is the first of its kind for the Rock Hall and is designed to host events ranging from corporate dinners to concerts to meetings in on-site conference rooms without disrupting museum operations.
“For the first time in the history of the museum, we’ll actually have a traditional event space,” says Michael Detling, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s director of event sales and services. “We can host indoor concerts. We can host larger school groups, education programs, field trips and every type of event that we’ve always wanted to host in the building.”
At the heart of the expansion is Baker Hall, a 5,000-square-foot multipurpose venue that can accommodate up to 700 guests for receptions or 400 for seated dinners and concerts. The new construction’s atrium and community steps connect the space seamlessly to the museum’s iconic glass pyramid, combining modern design with the Rock Hall’s signature look.
The addition also includes the Howley Family Student Center, which expands programming for the thousands of students who visit
each year, and the Taylor Family Community Park, a new lakefront green space for concerts and gatherings designed by James Corner Field Operations.
Sustainability is also central to the project, with an eco-friendly roof, rain garden and a new system that uses water from Lake Erie to heat the building — the first of its kind approved by the state.
With lakefront views, modern amenities and unmistakable energy, the Rock Hall’s newest addition offers meetings that can flow from a business presentation to a tour through decades of music history.
“What I’m most excited for are all the events that we’ve had to pass on hosting in the past 30 years,” Detling says. We are a museum first, and we’re an event space second. Now we have an option where we can be an event space first.” 1100 E. Ninth St., Cleveland 44114, 216-515-1933, rockhall.com

GERVASI VINEYARD RESORT & SPA
With a focus on an incredible atmosphere, great cuisine and inviting accommodations, Gervasi Vineyard Resort & Spa in Canton delivers a complete experience.
At Gervasi Vineyard Resort & Spa in Canton, meeting attendees find themselves transported from traditional conference rooms to the feel of the Tuscan countryside, where Mediterranean-style architecture, picturesque grounds and Italian-inspired dishes form an experience that goes beyond your typical meeting.
Corporate resort executive chef Ryan Bowen oversees food for the restaurants and on-site event venues at Gervasi’s main property, focusing on Italian-inspired dishes and fresh, high-quality ingredients.
“We always want to give guests a world-class experience,” Bowen says. “We have so much to offer on the property.”

SWEET CARROT
Comfort food and creativity are at the core of Columbus-based caterer Sweet Carrot, which brings a sense of warmth to its events in more ways than one.
When Angela Petro first introduced Sweet Carrot to Columbus’ culinary scene in 2013, she did so as a food truck serving comforting fare that felt both familiar and new. Sweet Carrot operates under the umbrella of Together & Co., a catering business that connects people through food, and embodies its focus of creating dishes that are designed to surprise and comfort clients.
“I always like to think of it as eating Sweet Carrot and serving it to your guests is like basically offering people a really nice blanket,” Petro says.
She and her team developed some of Sweet Carrot’s signature offerings, like corn salsa and corn cakes, during its food truck days. Today, those items are standouts of the Corn Cake Bar, which is accompanied by the Cheesy Bar and the Baked Potato Bar. Each comes with a variety of toppings and sides: coleslaw, barbecue sauce and corn salsa for the corn cake bar; macaroni and cheese, fried macaroni-and-cheese balls, chipotle aioli and a garden salad for the cheesy bar; and broccoli, cheese sauce, sour cream and a side of house-made potato chips for the baked potato bar.
Meeting planners can add smoked beef, pulled pork or Sweet Carrot’s signature chicken meatballs. Sweet Carrot makes all its sauces from scratch and even bottles them for attendees, so they can take a taste of Sweet Carrot home with them.
“As a caterer, you’re not just putting food out,” Petro says. “Food is important ... but there’s so many touch points where you can make people really feel cared for.” 614-313-8092, sweetcarrot.com
Breakfast, lunch and dinner options can fit any gathering, from corporate meetings to overnight retreats. Dinners provide the most immersive experience, featuring signature entrees like chicken piccata, Tuscan beef short rib and grilled lamb. Artful presentation abounds, and food stations like the antipasto table serve as a beautiful centerpiece for any event. Daytime meetings are fueled by house-made pizzas, as well as wraps, sandwiches and salads. For overnight guests, in-room breakfasts are an attendee favorite and feature a choice of frittata, oatmeal or parfait served with fruit and pastries made by the in-house pastry team. The Still House — a coffeehouse by day and cocktail lounge by night — represents another of the resort’s food and drink experiences. 1700 55th St. NE, Canton 44721, 330-497-1000, gervasivineyard.com

SPICE CATERING CO.
Chef Ben Bebenroth’s Cleveland-based catering company focuses on connecting people with where their food comes from and creating memorable moments for diners.
Growing up near a working farm, Ben Bebenroth developed an understanding of the connection between food and the earth. A career in fine dining further exposed him to the culinary world, and when he saw how little attention many catering companies paid to local and seasonal ingredients, he set out to change that.
In 2006, he founded the Cleveland-based Spice Catering Co., which emphasizes the importance of how people connect with food, the earth and one another through culinary experiences. Early on, Bebenroth began by hosting small-scale plated dinners featuring local ingredients in beautiful outdoor settings. The first event was held on Killbuck Val-
JUNGLE JIM’S INTERNATIONAL MARKET
The Oscar Event Center at Jungle Jim’s in Fairfield pulls from the international market’s unique stock to create globally inspired dishes.
Chances are you’ve heard of Jungle Jim’s International Market. With themed vendor areas, exotic food offerings and cuisine from more than 70 countries, the market is a destination. But since 2008, Jungle Jim’s has been offering more than just groceries. The Oscar Event Center at Jungle Jim’s Fairfield location can also help clients present their corporate gatherings with international flair.
ley Mushroom Farm in Burbank, Ohio, for roughly 12 people. These experimental dinners eventually became the Plated Landscape Dinners for which the company is now known. The events are for those looking to create a special experience for their corporate gathering. Bebenroth’s team designs the plated dinners to be an immersive, theatrical display tailored to each client, always focusing on creating a one-of-a-kind experience.
“We have seen this facilitate lifelong memories,” Bebenroth says. “People are walking away from this dinner like, ‘Oh my God. I want these people to cater my wedding.’ And that wasn’t even intentional. That was sort of accidental.”
In addition to the higher-end plated dinner experiences, Spice Catering Co. also provides more approachable options like box lunches. The boxes are specially designed to be nutrient dense, plant focused and performance based, and they feature dishes like a soba noodle salad or sweet potato grain bowl. 216-432-9090, spicecaters.com
The Oscar Event Center sources from the market, with options ranging from classic plated meals to the center’s specialty food stations featuring a variety of global cuisines. The Asian station offers Korean beef bulgoli, kimchi, herbed rice and yum yum sauce, while the Spanish station includes paella, grilled zucchini and gazpacho.
“We did have one wedding that just did the Asian station and the seafood station as their meal,” says Amanda Tamburello, general manager of The Oscar Event Center. “It was really cool because it allowed more people to talk amongst themselves.”
Standout entrees include the elk strip loin with onion marmalade and Malbec butter and the ratatouille puff pastry with eggplant hummus. One of Tamburello’s favorite side dishes is the Okinawa sweet potatoes with ginger coconut curry and crushed candied almonds.
“[Our chef is] very open minded,”Tamburello says, “and he loves to be able to do stuff that’s not just making the same meals over and over.” 5440 Dixie Hwy., Fairfield 45014, 513-674-6055, junglejims.com

Cleveland Museum of Art | Cleveland
Inspire attendees by hosting your next meeting among the Cleveland Museum of Art’s encyclopedic collection that spans works from throughout human history. The museum can accommodate groups as small as 20 and as large as 2,000, and it offers a variety of different spaces, including a private dining room, recital hall, auditorium and classrooms.
Spring proves to be an especially appealing time thanks to the beauty of the museum’s cherry blossom trees, which line the lagoon outside. The trees’ pink blossoms sway in the spring breezes and provide a peaceful setting for a break-time walk.
The museum’s most unique space is its soaring atrium, a 32,000-square-foot area just beyond the main entrance that can be rented for special events. Of course, no visit to the Cleveland Museum of Art is complete without the opportunity to explore the works within the galleries.
“We have professional educators on staff, people can go on their own, people do treasure hunts in here.” says Lisa Codispoti, chief operating and people officer at the Cleveland Museum of Art. “They do all sorts of stuff to make it fun and interesting, but also that [ensure] people walk away having learned something and having had some type of an experience that was important to them.”
Docent-led tours are also available for those who want to learn more about the art, and if there are ticketed exhibitions going on at the museum the same day as a private event, admission can be added on for attendees to keep the fun going. 11150 East Blvd., Cleveland 44106, 216-421-7350, clevelandart.org

Maumee Bay Lodge & Conference Center | Oregon
Nothing signifies summer like days on the waterfront, and when it comes to sunny-season meetings, Maumee Bay Lodge & Conference Center delivers. Plan your meeting in the center’s Grand Ballroom, which looks out over Lake Erie’s Maumee Bay. The ballroom can be separated into four smaller sections, and with its towering windows, it’s lauded for its natural light and gorgeous sunset views.
“We have a totally different feel than your standard corporate hotel,” says Amy Boyer, sales manager at Maumee Bay Lodge & Conference Center. “The natural light looking out over the lake — you feel like you’re on a retreat. It’s very inspirational [and] there’s lots of things to do for bonding time.”
Planners can book extra activities for their meeting attendees, including firepit rentals for late-night s’mores or fishing charters that can provide a day on the water. Plus, outside companies that work with the lodge can come in and lead team-building sessions on the lawn, and a park naturalist from Maumee Bay State Park can offer guided hikes.
When evening arrives, in-house catering covers dinner plans, which range from casual cookouts to plated filet mignon dinners. Cocktail hours are also a hit, and drinks can be enjoyed in the hotel lounge, with beer and wine served at the firepits. Overnight events can book a block of rooms in the 120-room lodge or consider one of the 24 cottages along the golf course. 1750 State Park Rd. #2, Oregon 43616, 419-836-1466, maumeebaylodge.com

FALL
Ohio Stadium | Columbus
Whether you cheer for the Buckeyes on Saturday or not, Ohio Stadium (or The Horseshoe, as it’s known) is a landmark of not only college football but also Ohio culture. Tens of thousands of fans pack the stadium on game day, and the venue provides the opportunity for meeting and event planners to trade conference-room lights for the glow of college-football glory.

Sculpture Park & Museum | Hamilton
Check out towering works of art framed by the beauty of southwest Ohio’s hills at this outdoor sculpture park and museum. Outdoor events here can be held at The Pavilion, a space that accommodates up to 350 people, but indoor options like the Gallery Museum are just as inspiring. To view the sculptures outside, attendees can take a self-guided or hosted tour on an Art Cart. 1763 Hamilton Cleves Rd., Hamilton 45013, 513-8688336, pyramidhill.org
Ohio Stadium hosts events year-round, except for Saturdays when there is a home game, and one of the reasons it scores as an unforgettable experience is because of the add-ons that meeting planners can choose for their attendees.
Stadium tours include visits to the locker room, press box and field, and the venue can even set up fun competitions like punt, pass and kick games, as well as cornhole and Jenga. To really get your crowd pumped, book a visit from OSU’s mascot Brutus or musicians from The Ohio State University Marching Band.
“It’s just such an iconic place,” says Kelly
Mulhern, senior director of national and regional sales at The Ohio State University. “The ability to actually go on the field and stand there when it’s empty is just such a different experience than when you’re there for a football game or concert. Not a lot of people get to have that experience.”
Although there are various meeting rooms at the stadium, the most popular is NetJets Landing. Located in the northwest corner of the stadium, it can seat up to 350 and offers a view of the field. 411 Woody Hayes Dr., Columbus 43210, 614-247-1739, planevents.osu.edu

Cleveland Metroparks | Various Locations
Embrace autumn with a meeting in the Cleveland Metroparks, which offers more than 75 rental opportunities across its parks, plus options at its nine golf courses and the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Rentals span shelters to spaces like Look About Lodge in the South Chagrin Reservation and the new pavilion at Wallace Lake Park in Mill Stream Run Reservation. Event catering is done in-house, and activities such naturalist-led foliage hikes can be booked. 216-635-3200, clevelandmetroparks.com

Ohio Statehouse | Columbus
Inspire your staff by hosting your next event at one of our state’s most famous buildings. The Ohio Statehouse in Columbus offers classrooms for meetings during the day, but planners can also arrange after-hours receptions and gatherings in the Atrium, located between the Senate Building and Statehouse. An event here connects citizens to their state government, and adding a tour helps attendees better understand the building’s beauty and significance. 1 Capitol Square, Columbus 43215, 614-752-9777, ohiostatehouse.org
Carlisle Inn | Sugarcreek
For a full slate of accommodations in Ohio’s Amish Country, opt for the Carlisle Inn Sugarcreek. It features two large areas for hosting, including a conference center for around 300 participants. For lunch and dinner, the adjacent Dutch Valley Restaurant serves homestyle favorites like fried chicken, noodles and mashed potatoes. Also on-site, the Ohio Star Theater can be booked when performances are not scheduled. 1357 Old Rte. 39 NE, Sugarcreek 44681, 330-852-2586, dhgroup.com
Boonshoft Museum of Discovery | Dayton
For those who thought this Dayton science center was just for kids, think again. It features a children’s museum, natural history museum, planetarium and zoo under one roof, making it a great stop not just for hosting meetings but for making discoveries.
Several meeting options are available at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, with the largest being the main exhibit hall that can accommodate 250 people. Smaller groups of up to 30 can opt for classroom spaces, and 10 to 12 participants can book the showroom in the former planetarium. Larger groups can even opt for an after-hours museum buyout. Event planners are welcome to coordinate their own outside catering, but the museum also has a list of recommended vendors.
Discovery isn’t just in the museum’s name but also in its nature. Event add-ons open new doors to explore and include options such as museum tours, planetarium shows, hands-on science demonstrations and even animal encounters with creatures from the on-site zoo like Patience the sloth. No visit is complete without a trip down the enclosed tube slide, even if you left your playground days behind years ago.
“Being an adult in a space that’s often geared towards children, it can bring out that inner kid for everyone,” says Abby Doza Hall, director of community relations at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery. “In corporate events, typically people have to put on their professional face, but when you’re in a fun kids area, you get to have a different experience.” 2600 Deweese Pkwy., Dayton 45414, 937-275-7431, boonshoft.org

Holmes County: Where Time Slows Down and Ideas Come Alive
Gather in Ohio’s Amish Country, where timeless charm meets modern convenience. Whether you’re planning a corporate retreat, team-building getaway or annual reunion, the region offers a welcoming blend of comfort, connection and creativity in an inspiring setting. Groups will find a wide range of accommodations, from full-service hotels with spacious banquet halls and meeting rooms, such as the Berlin Encore Hotel & Suites or the Berlin Grande, to intimate venues like the Inn at Honey Run, which overlooks the scenic Appalachian foothills. Modern amenities pair beautifully with the peaceful rhythm of the countryside, where time is marked by the clip-clop rhythm of horses and buggies, creating the ideal environment to relax, recharge and reconnect.
Outdoor adventures abound here too. Test your skills with a clay shoot at Airport Ridge Sporting Clays, hit the greens at Fire Ridge or Black Diamond Golf Course or take a backroads tour for a fascinating behind-thescenes glimpse into Amish life. Shoppers will delight in exploring locally owned boutiques and workshops filled with handcrafted treasures, while food lovers can savor hearty, Amish-inspired meals and fresh farm-to-table fare at charming local restaurants like Berlin Farmstead, Tarragon, Boyd & Wurthmann or Rebecca’s Bistro.
In Amish Country, time slows down and the distractions of everyday life fade away. It’s a place where bonds are strengthened, ideas are sparked and memories are made. Experience an extraordinary destination that truly brings people together.
