As I look back on 2025, one thing is crystal clear: 2025 was a milestone year for our Chamber. We didn’t just serve our community and members— we grew, we stretched, and we delivered in ways that truly moved our organization forward. Being recognized as a Top Three Finalist for the second year in a row was a remarkable accomplishment for our board and team. This is an external validation that the work we are doing is top in the chamber industry. Whether it was expanding our workforce and talent initiatives, elevating our signature events, or strengthening partnerships across the region, this year proved what’s possible when this community leans in together. The momentum was real, and it showed up in every corner of our organization. Of course, none of this happens without the people behind the work. Our team is small but mighty, and their dedication continues to amaze me. They show up with passion, creativity, and a deep commitment to serving our members at the highest level. I am equally grateful for our Board of Directors—steady, thoughtful leaders who help us keep our eyes on the horizon while supporting progress every step of the way. And now, we get to turn the page to 2026. Let me tell you—this year is going to be exciting. We have bold plans in motion that will elevate the member experience, introduce innovative programming, and take our engagement to an entirely new level. Our 105th Annual Meeting was an event that truly rocked from start to finish! Presented by Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, this milestone celebration at The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota brought together business and community leaders to honor achievements, celebrate partnerships, and look ahead to another exciting year of growth and innovation. Congratulations to John Stump, recipient of the prestigious Chair’s Cup Award, in recognition of his outstanding leadership, dedication, and service to the Chamber and our business community. We also extend our sincere gratitude to Immediate Past Chair, Joe C. ScottMoudry Scott Moudry serves as the Senior Manager of Ticket and Sales Operations at the Orioles Spring Training complex, where he is entering his 12th year with the club. His role involves managing Ticket Operations, Fan Services, and Corporate Partnerships. Prior to joining the Orioles, he was the Director of Ticketing at the Peoria Sports Complex in Peoria, AZ. Scott was born and raised in Iowa and is an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan! We closed the month by celebrating the achievements of this year’s KEYS Leadership cohort. After weeks of collaboration, development, and immersive learning, participants are returning to their organizations equipped with strengthened leadership skills and renewed purpose. After Hours Series
This year marked another strong chapter for the Young Professionals Group (YPG) After Hours series, bringing Sarasota’s emerging leaders together in some of the most energetic venues across our community. From the iconic Gator Club and coastal-inspired Lefty’s Oyster & Seafood Bar to the creative atmosphere of Art Ovation Hotel Sarasota, the modern workspace at BOLD Offices & Cowork, and the lively scene at Cask & Ale, each event offered a fresh backdrop for connection and conversation. Dozens of local businesses opened their doors to host YPG, helping create memorable evenings that blended networking with authentic community building. Celebrating 40 Years of Leadership Sarasota This fall, Leadership Sarasota marked an incredible milestone—40 years of developing leaders, building connections, and strengthening our community. Alumni, current class members, partners, and friends gathered at the Gator Club to honor the program’s legacy. Thanks to presenting sponsor Gecko’s Grill & Pub for an amazing taco bar and to SRQ Entertainment Company for keeping the night lively with a fun photo booth, the celebration was filled with laughter, stories, and gratitude. Here’s to the next 40 years! Alongside the anniversary celebration, both the Adult and Youth classes have been busy exploring the heart of Sarasota. Participants spent days immersed in the arts, culture, philanthropy, and media, including tours of The Ringling, Sarasota Art Museum, Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe, and behind-the-scenes experiences at WWSB ABC 7 News and Observer Media Group. Connections Nights brought the classes together for shared experiences, games, and meaningful conversations, sparking new friendships and collaboration. Health & Human Services Day consisted of visits to organizations like the Child Protection Center, Children First, Easterseals, and All Faiths Food Bank, gaining firsthand insight into the vital support networks that strengthen our community. From celebrating Sarasota’s rich culture to exploring its impactful nonprofit sector, this season has been a vibrant and inspiring start for our future leaders.

Support the full preservation and allocation of the Sadowski Housing Trust Funds exclusively for affordable housing programs including the purchase of land. Support that counties and municipalities, respectively, must administratively approve affordable housing, including mixed-use residential, on any parcel owned by religious institutions by so long as at least 10 percent of the units included in the project are for housing that is affordable.
EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
Support operational funding for the University of South Florida and USF Sarasota-Manatee, New College of Florida, the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, and fixed capital outlay funding for University of South Florida and USF Sarasota-Manatee, New College of Florida, the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota and SCF Venice Collegiate School.
CHILDCARE ACCESS/AFFORDABILITY
Support the implementation of initiatives and incentives to encourage local businesses to provide or subsidize childcare for their employees.
Support legislation that provides incentives for employers who are providing childcare for employees to qualify for license exempt status which are provided to church or parochial school childcare centers.
TOURIST DEVELOPMENT TAX (TDT)
Support the continued full preservation and allocation of the Tourist Development Tax (TDT) that supports jobs in hotels, restaurants, attractions, and other tourismreliant businesses, including funding that goes towards improving resident quality of life through beach maintenance, beach renourishment, sports stadiums, capital improvements, arts and culture grants, and more.

I have learned a few leadership lessons that guide me every day. First,
there are no shortcuts to success. I believe if you dedicate yourself to excellence and are willing to put in the work, anything is possible. Second, have fun. On tough days, I take a few minutes to get centered on my “why” because I know I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to do what I love. Finally, a strong leader must learn when to lead, and when to follow.
What is one piece of business advice you would give to local entrepreneurs?
Believe in yourself and surround yourself with people who believe in you and will advocate for you. In addition, getting really involved in a strong business organization like the Sarasota Chamber can create invaluable pathways for relationship development and help meaningfully raise the profile of your brand.
Are there any exciting developments happening in your company?
The Orioles have proudly called Sarasota our Spring Training home since 2010 and continue to evolve our business operation to respond to the needs and wishes of our community, our athletes, and our fans. Beginning this Spring Training, fans visiting our complex will see a new addition with the opening of our state-of-the-art player development center. We are especially excited that fans will be able to get an up-close look with enhanced and expanded fan access at Ed Smith Stadium on both home and away game dates, including free admission to open practices on home dates.
What do you love the most about Sarasota?
What I love most about Sarasota is the people. Philanthropy and volunteerism are at the heart of Sarasota which speaks volumes about the caliber of our community. During my time here I have seen countless examples of generosity, and there is no better feeling than working and living in a place that so highly values taking care of our neighbors in need.

The biggest leadership lesson I have learned is to listen first and recognize that every issue has multiple viewpoints. Understanding all sides builds trust and leads to stronger decisions. I have also learned the importance of speaking up with confidence when something matters, and ultimately, going with your gut. Your instincts, shaped by experience and values, often guide you to the right path when navigating complex people and situations.
What is one piece of business advice you would give to local entrepreneurs?
Number one - get involved with the Sarasota Chamber. Second - never be afraid to say, “I don’t know.” Some of the best business decisions start with honesty and a willingness to learn. Surround yourself with smart people and people who can help you find the right answers, be transparent, and follow through. In a community like Sarasota, your reputation and relationships matter tremendously, and staying curious, humble, and engaged will take you further than pretending to have all the answers.
Are there any exciting developments happening in your company?
We are beginning Phase II of the Selby Gardens Master Plan, a landmark project that continues our partnership with one of Sarasota’s most cherished institutions. Alongside this, we are delivering major civic, educational, and public safety facilities that are helping shape the future of Sarasota– Manatee. This year we will also complete the largest school project in Sarasota County School District history, Wellen Park High School, on time and on budget. We continue to expand our preconstruction capabilities, invest in new technologies, and strengthen our team to remain the region’s most trusted, local construction manager for decades to come.
What do you love the most about Sarasota?
What’s not to love about Sarasota? As a native, I appreciate our arts and culture, passionate nonprofits, beaches, boating, and the strong sense of community that makes this place special. Sarasota offers beauty, opportunity, and heart in equal measure. But most of all, I love the people at Willis Smith Construction, they embody the spirit of this community and make coming to work every day something I’m truly proud of.
