Our vision is for the Greater Memphis area to be globally recognized as an economic leader with a global impact that fosters an authentic business environment unique to the soul of our city.
In this year's Annual Report, you'll see how Memphis has emerged as the Digital Delta, attracting transformative projects like xAI's planned expansion while advancing crucial infrastructure through the historic America’s River Crossing Project. These milestone achievements, alongside many others detailed in these pages, showcase how we're strategically positioning Memphis for future growth while creating high-wage jobs and expanding opportunities for all Memphians. Our 186-year legacy of driving regional growth continues to evolve as we position Greater Memphis at the forefront of innovation and economic development.
TED TOWNSEND PRESIDENT & CEO
In June of 2024, the Greater Memphis Chamber announced xAI’s supercomputer would be in Memphis. This investment is one of the largest in Tennessee’s history and continues to emphasize Memphis’ position as the Digital Delta. After just six months in Memphis, xAI announced they would be expanding their supercomputer to over 1 million GPUs.
After years of advocacy, the Greater Memphis Chamber helped secure a $393.75 million grant from the Federal Highway Administration, along with up to $250 million in funding from Tennessee and Arkansas, for a new Interstate 55 Bridge over the Mississippi River at Memphis, to be known as America’s River Crossing. This was a collaborative e ort involving the Chamber’s Transportation Committee, the Tennessee and Arkansas Departments of Transportation, and numerous other leaders advocating for the city, ultimately further solidifying Memphis as a global logistics leader.
The Greater Memphis Chamber was named the administrator and fiscal agent for the Greater Memphis Workforce Development Board. The Chamber is responsible for administering and distributing federal funding for workforce development to regional vendors and ensuring local programs are compliant with all necessary procedures.
This year the Greater Memphis Chamber was invited to Austin to participate in Launch Tennessee’s first ever Tennessee House. We hosted 6 sold out events and featured the city’s innovators and creators across various industries. Our Memphis-themed events were hosted on 3/9 so we aptly named it (3)901 Day. This was an opportunity for us to showcase all that Memphis has to o er.
We won big in 2024. Our success did not go unnoticed. Business Facilities Magazine awarded the Greater Memphis Chamber the 2024 Bronze Deal of the Year for attracting xAI to the city.
