One of the things I enjoy most about serving as Chair of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber is getting an even closer look at the incredible diversity of businesses that make the region truly thrive. This month’s cover story puts the spotlight on one of the most important pieces of that story: manufacturing.
That’s why we are particularly excited about the Chamber’s upcoming Manufacturing Forum. Bringing people together to talk about those challenges as well as possibilities is one of the things the Chamber does best. There is never a shortage of great ideas, and in our Lehigh Valley community the best ones begin when we are all together as partners in the same room.
Manufacturing has long been part of our identity, and we know that today’s industry looks completely different from the manufacturing many of us grew up knowing. Funding Available for Public EV Charges The Shapiro Administration and PennDOT is investing $100 million of federal funding from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program in public EV charging stations throughout Pennsylvania. Any organization registered to do business in Pennsylvania is eligible to apply, and all locations available for public use are eligible. NEVI can fund up to 80% of the cost to build an EV charging station. Throughout this year, PennDOT will release 4 regional funding opportunities. The east region, which includes the Lehigh Valley, will have the funding opportunities published in September. Proposals will then be due by Spring 2027. Dates are estimates and subject to change. For more information on the Community Charging funding rounds, please visit www.pa.gov/evcommunity.
Local transportation planning agencies determine the specific locations/areas within the region that are prioritized for investment, but all locations within the region are eligible to apply. PennDOT has released a survey for interested organizations to connect with electric vehicle charging station builders and operators to partner with on submissions. The survey is available now at www.pa.gov/evcommunity. Since the first Pennsylvania NEVI station opened in December 2023, NEVI-funded charging stations in Pennsylvania have supported over 106,000 charging sessions, over 12.7 million estimated miles driven, and reduced CO2 emissions by more than 2,700 metric tons.

New Life Blooms in Jim Thorpe's Historic Kemmerer Park Kemmerer Park, located in the heart of Jim Thorpe, was donated to the community by the Kemmerer family nearly a century ago. After several years of minimal attention, the park became overgrown with saplings and forest debris, limiting its use and visual appeal. Recent improvements, including the addition of picnic tables and park benches, are creating a more welcoming space for residents and visitors. Students have also played an important role in renovating and cleaning the park, revealing several sloped areas of cleared space that are ideal for new plantings. The addition of perennial plants and trees will enhance the park's appearance, provide seasonal color, and create valuable habitat and food sources
for pollinators such as butterflies. A dedicated volunteer group has planted and will maintain the new landscaping, ensuring that the improvements remain beautiful and sustainable for years to come. This project will build on the community's recent investment in Kemmerer Park and help transform it into a more attractive, inviting gathering place. By bringing residents, students, and volunteers together, the project will inspire more people to enjoy, care for, and take pride in this historic community park. The Chamber Foundation is proud to provide support for projects like this across the Lehigh Valley. Please join us on September 10 to learn about this years’ projects!

You don’t need a lengthy audit to spot some of the most common issues! Set a timer for five minutes and try these five quick checks: First, Google your business. Is the information Google displays accurate? Do the results reflect what you offer and what you want to be known for? Take note of anything outdated, missing, or unclear. Try the same search in an AI tool like ChatGPT, too, and see how your business is represented there. Second, visit your website on your phone. Can you quickly tell what your business does, who it serves, and what to do next? If finding the basics requires zooming, searching, or extensive scrolling, your customers are probably struggling, too. Third, verify the essentials. Confirm that your hours, phone number, address and service information are consistent across your website, Google Business Profile, and social media accounts. Even small discrepancies can cause confusion. Fourth, review your last three social posts.
Do they help someone learn something, get to know your business, or see your involvement in the community? Every post doesn’t need to sell something, but it should help people get to know you better.

The Hellertown Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce is proud to put that mission into action with the return of our Small Business Grant. As we begin a new year, one of the Chamber’s most important initiatives is providing direct support to the businesses that help make Hellertown and Lower Saucon such great places to live, work, and visit. We have established a Small Business Grant fund designed to help local businesses grow, improve, and invest in their future. A total of $2,000 in grant funding will be once again available to eligible businesses located in Hellertown or Lower Saucon. Grant funds can be used to help offset expenses associated with renovations, expansion of services, new signage, equipment, and other improve-
ments that contribute to the growth and success of a local business. Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy. As we move into September, the Carbon Chamber & Economic Development Corporation continues to create opportunities that strengthen our community and enhance the quality of life throughout Carbon County. September’s schedule features a variety of events designed to bring together business leaders, nonprofit partners, and community members in meaningful and productive ways. One of our signature events is the 20th Annual Sturm Cup Golf Tournament on September 16. The tournament is named in honor of the late Jack Sturm, a founding member of the CCEDC Board of Directors whose leadership, hospitality, and commitment to community service helped shape our organization during its formative years. Jack exemplified the spirit of volunteerism and community stewardship that continues
to guide our work today, and the Sturm Cup serves as a lasting tribute to his legacy. Inside St. Luke’s Collaboration with Capital Blue Cross: Bringing Simplicity to Employer Health Coverage For business leaders across the Greater Lehigh Valley, controlling health care costs while maintaining competitive benefits has become an increasingly complex balancing act. An expanded collaboration between Capital Blue Cross and St. Luke’s University Health Network aims to simplify that equation. The result is Valley Advantage, an Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO) health plan designed specifically for employers in Lehigh and Northampton counties. Unlike traditional PPO products that offer broad, multi-system access, this plan is built around a coordinated care model anchored by St. Luke’s extensive network – 16 hospital campuses and more than 350 provider locations – supplemented by external providers when necessary to meet network adequacy requirements.
