In 2024, Casbah Med Spa was introduced under the care of Dr. Josephine Bonell, M.D., expanding its full-service beauty and wellness offerings. 10 seconds to make a first impression That’s a lot of pressure, and no way I’d want to face that alone. You need a team. Putting in the effort before listing your home isn’t just smart in this market, it’s essential. Buyers decide fast, and with the right prep, your property doesn’t just stand out, it sells faster and for more. That’s where Compass’ powerful tools, like Private Exclusive, Compass Coming Soon, Reverse Prospecting, and MLS Coming Soon, really shine. They let us build momentum, connect with serious buyers early, and create demand before the public listing even goes live. Trying to do all this solo is overwhelming. But with the right experts by your side, we can assess what makes your home and neighborhood unique and position it perfectly within its current market. With all our new tools for a uniquely designed digital reach, we can get your property directly in front of the right eyes, the ones who aren’t just browsing, but are serious and already very interested. Huge thanks to my clients Linda and Nicholas, Lucas and Maru, and Hao and family, who trusted us to get their homes ready, showcased and sold in record time. When you put in the work upfront, it pays off in qualified offers, it builds confidence, clarity, and momentum from day one.
Let’s connect ,
so I can help you navigate these options.

Influence runs through this issue — not the kind that spotlight restaurants or skincare, but the people who use their talent and their abilities to make a difference in our community. You’ll see it in our annual Men and Women of Influence, where we introduce some of the people whose leadership, ideas, and commitment are helping shape South Florida. You’ll also see it in our cover stars, Florida Panthers Matthew and Brady Tkachuk. Fierce competitors on the ice, the brothers understand that their influence extends well beyond hockey, particularly when it comes to family and community. Then there are people making an impact in ways that may be less visible but are no less important. Food Rescue U.S. South Florida takes perfectly good surplus food and gets it to people who need it; Community-Based Connections CEO Mikelange Olbel brings serious style to his commitment to advocating for South Florida families; and the Museum of Discovery and Science president and CEO Joe Cox is preparing it for the next 50 years. Of course, October in South Florida isn’t all serious business. The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show returns, and we have smart ways to navigate the world’s largest in-water boat show — along with some of our favorite places to grab a cocktail or a meal while you’re there. We’re also embracing the season with Halloween cocktails, murder mysteries, fall shopping, and a seafood festival. To wrap it up, The Real Housewives of Miami star Adriana de Moura shares her idea of a perfect South Florida weekend. Cheers,

COCKTAILS FROM THE BLACK LAGOON
A spooky-themed cocktail experience pops-up at The Sylvester
PHOTOS: COURTESY OF BLACK LAGOON
Black Lagoon is bringing its creepy cocktail experience to Miami this fall, taking over The Sylvester (3456 N. Miami Avenue, Miami) from October 6th through October 31st. The multi-week Halloween pop-up transforms the bar into a spooky creature’s lair with immersive décor, cinematic lighting, chilling soundscapes, and a cocktail menu created exclusively for the annual event. Among this year’s drinks is Abyssa’s Obsession, a chilling take on a piña colada made with pumpkin-infused spiced rums, sherry, coconut, pineapple, and lime. The Bone Temple puts an autumn spin on a margarita with tequila, tart cherry, spiced oat orgeat, lime, and vanilla honey, while Moon Shadow reimagines the espresso martini with nutmeg-infused vodka, coffee liqueur, banana liqueur, sherry, and cold brew. Guests can also purchase limitededition glassware, including pieces designed by artist Kisira Hill and a new Abyssa the Octo-Witch mug created in collaboration withTiki Farm.

Joe Cox Is Building MODS for Its Next 50 Years
THE MUSEUM OF DISCOVERY AND SCIENCE PRESIDENT AND CEO WANTS TO HELP INSPIRE FUTURE GENERATIONS THROUGH LEARNING, PLAY, AND EXPLORATION BY
L A I N E
D O S S
Nearly 50 years after the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) began introducing South Florida children to the wonders of science, president and CEO Joe Cox is thinking about what comes next. The answer involves artificial intelligence, climate innovation, and new technology. But it also involves kids digging in dirt, building with their hands and, most importantly, learning to ask questions. "We truly want people to be inspired by science, and we want to inspire them to dream bigger,” Cox says. Cox, who has led the Fort Lauderdale museum since 2018, sees that balance between technology and hands-on discovery as essential to the museum’s future. MODS has been evolving since its founding in 1977, and Cox says its mission has expanded along with the science it presents. Inside the museum, that can mean everything from experimenting in a maker space to exploring an outdoor tropical food forest where children can dig, taste fruits and herbs, and learn about permaculture. “Families working together—that hands-on experience is very much at our core,” Cox says. Increasingly, that mission extends far beyond the museum itself. Last year, MODS outreach programs served approximately 75,000 children throughout South Florida at Title I schools, libraries, Boys & Girls Clubs, and YMCAs. About 80 percent of those programs were provided at no cost to participating organizations through support from corporations, foundations, philanthropic partners, and municipalities. The museum is also helping prepare young people for careers in industries important to South Florida. Its paid high school internship program now includes 125 students and was developed in part after conversations with aviation partners about the need to build a future
workforce. Cox wants students to understand that an aviation career doesn't necessarily mean becoming a pilot or flight attendant. “It’s avionics and mechanics,” he says. “You think about pilots and engineers, but you can walk into a great career.” Environmental science and resilience are another focus, particularly as South Florida confronts rising seas, extreme heat, and other climaterelated challenges. That will be central to Build a Better World, the largest permanent exhibit MODS has created in more than a decade. The exhibit is designed around four traits—critical thinking, caring, confidence, and cooperation—and challenges visitors to use them to solve real-world environmental problems through experimentation, play, and problem-solving. Instead of simply telling visitors what scientists have discovered, Cox wants to ignite curiosity. “For a long, long time, museums were very good at saying, ‘This is what science LMGFL.COM OCTOBER 2026 41
has discovered,’” he says. “Now, what can you try? What would you change?” Build a Better World will introduce visitors to technologies and initiatives already addressing environmental challenges, including artificial seawalls developed by Kind Designs and the Broward Countywide Resilience Plan. Coral and reef science will also be incorporated into the experience. Build a Better World will also introduce Lily, the AI river otter, who will guide families through challenges as they travel through the exhibit, building an individualized profile along the way. Other exhibits are purposefully low-tech and high-touch. Through its longstanding relationship with LEGO, MODS has participated in the company's Build the Change program, which asks children to use LEGO bricks to devise solutions to environmental and urban challenges. In October, another tactile experience arrives with approximately 10,000 oversized magnetic tiles that families can use to build, create, and even climb through structures.
42
OCTOBER 2026 | LMGFL.COM
At the other end of the technological spectrum is the museum's IMAX theater, one of only about 25 in the country equipped with an IMAX 15-perforation, 70mm film projection system. Its run of The Odyssey has become a phenomenon, selling approximately 62,300 tickets and logging 236 consecutive sold-out shows at the time Cox was interviewed. Visitors have traveled from as far as Dubai, Peru, and the Bahamas to experience the show. As MODS approaches its 50th anniversary, however, Cox measures its impact in more than attendance. He thinks about generations of South Floridians who first encountered science there as children, then returned years later with kids of their own. “What did they experience? What made them more curious? What did they end up doing?” Cox asks. He's heard from parents who say an early visit helped inspire their child to become an engineer, scientist, or doctor. That, Cox says, is the legacy MODS hopes to carry into its next half-century: not simply teaching science, but becoming part of South Florida families' lives. “We want to strive to be South Florida’s museum,” he says.

COMMUNITY-BASED CONNECTIONS CEO MIKELANGE OLBEL PAIRS BOLD TAILORING AND CHILDHOOD LESSONS WITH FRONTLINE ADVOCACY FOR SOUTH FLORIDA FAMILIES. BY

t a recent 211 Broward awards ceremony, Mikelange Olbel entered wearing a yellow suit and cowboy hat. The outfit drew immediate reactions, which was precisely the point. “People were like, ‘Oh my goodness, only you could pull this off. No one else can do this,’” Olbel recalls. “But it’s an expression. It’s a place of joy and it’s to show joy, and also welcome joy.” For the CEO of Community-Based Connections, vivid tailoring serves as a personal signature, conversation starter, and a visual extension of his philanthropic work. While South Florida’s nonprofit circuit has plenty of conventional business attire, Olbel gravitates toward bright colors, pocket squares, red-bottom shoes, and combinations designed to command attention. His father taught him early that presentation could influence perception. Even when the family had little money, the elder Olbel prioritized buying his son a suit over tennis shoes. His advice: “A man who dressed well will get farther in life.” Olbel eventually tested the theory inside a bank. After struggling to secure his first line of credit as an organizational CEO, he spent an entire paycheck on a navy pinstripe suit, complete with extravagant accessories. “One day, I kid you not, I went into a bank with a suit on and that suit cost me my check. But I got to tell you, I closed the deal,” he says. “I still have it today with suspenders and I wore it with some red bottoms.” Long before the striking suits and national speaking engagements, Olbel was the youngest of five boys in a Haitian family that once lived in a van. He remembers his father returning from a double shift with a burger and fries, then giving the food to his sons rather than eating it himself. Later, his
mother gathered the family’s clothes to send to children in Haiti. “I’m like, ‘Mom, look around. We are the less fortunate. We’re homeless. We’re living in the van,’” Olbel says. “And mom’s like, ‘Well, there’s somebody that’s living in a worse condition than us.’ And that really stuck with me.” That lesson now guides an organization serving more than 4,000 children and families across Broward and Palm Beach counties. When Olbel took the helm, Community-Based Connections carried a $60,000 deficit. Today, its work includes family-preservation services and the ADAM program, short for Awesome Dad Awesome Mentoring, which helps fathers pursue custody, navigate legal battles, and train for careers as commercial drivers, electricians, and plumbers. A $6.2 million, five-year grant fueled the organization’s Palm Beach expansion. Olbel has also presented its fatherhood model in Washington, D.C., and California, bringing national attention to work rooted in South Florida. When it is time to carry that message into another crowded room, Olbel already knows what he will reach for. “I leave my dark suits for business meetings, but when I want to light up a room, I’m going to throw on the most glamorous suit that I can find,” he says. “It’s not about me, but it’s [about] everybody in that room to bring joy and happiness and love.” LMGFL.COM OCTOBER 2026 45

Turning Surplus Food into Meals
FOOD RESCUE U.S. SOUTH FLORIDA'S VOLUNTEERS PROVIDE THE COMMUNITY WITH NOURISHMENT AND DIGNITY
BY
L A I N E
D O S S
llen Bowen remembers picking up a few trays of eggs and pastries from a hotel’s Sunday brunch and driving them to the Miami Rescue Mission. The food had never left the kitchen. It was perfectly edible, but without someone to collect it, it would have been thrown away. That modest pickup in 2018 was the beginning of Food Rescue U.S. South Florida, an organization that has since rescued more than 17 million pounds of food and now coordinates more than 100 pickups and deliveries each week. Before founding the South Florida chapter, Bowen wrote about Miami’s restaurant scene through her blog, MIA Bites. While interviewing chefs and reporting on the food scene, she noticed the surplus left after parties and events. At the same time, she would drive past people living beneath highways in cardboard boxes. The dichotomy of feasting on the finer things while others were hungry didn't sit well. “It just seemed ridiculous,” she recalls. Bowen began researching what happened to unused food and remembered a small food-rescue organization in Connecticut, where she had previously lived. She contacted the group and asked whether she could bring its model to Miami. She started with that first hotel brunch pickup. Soon, the receiving agency suggested other potential donors, volunteers joined her, and grocery stores became part of the network. By 2019, the fledgling operation was coordinating approximately 10 rescues a week. Today, the organization rescues edible, unused food from restaurants, hotels, and major events like the Super Bowl and Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix. The food gets distributed to more than 40 locations, with their reach spanning Miami-Dade to Palm Beach County. Food Rescue U.S. South Florida operates without its own warehouse or fleet of trucks. Instead, volunteers deliver directly to matched hunger-relief organizations, often within an hour. The model keeps overhead low while preserving freshness and nutritional value. For larger rescues, such as those at Hard Rock Stadium, the organization partners with receiving agencies that have trucks and drivers. That grassroots approach allows the group to respond quickly when circumstances change. During the pandemic, Bowen secured funding to pay restaurants to prepare meals, helping them retain staff while providing food to the community. The program distributed approximately 65,000 meals.
After the Champlain Towers South collapse, Food Rescue U.S. worked with chefs and restaurants to provide prepared meals to displaced residents and families awaiting news of loved ones. “We’re nimble enough that we can pivot to what a community needs,” Bowen says. That philosophy is especially visible at the organization’s farmers markets. Rather than handing out prepacked bags, volunteers arrange produce on tables, place fruit in baskets, and keep meat, poultry, fish, and dairy in coolers. Fresh flowers are often available to nourish the soul as well as the body. Attendees receive reusable shopping totes and “shop” for what they want. Volunteers may offer cooking tips, while community partners contribute music, children’s activities, or other services. At a Haitian Mother’s Day distribution in Little Haiti, the event included dancing, performances, massages, and flower bouquets. Bowen says the goal is to create an experience that is culturally appropriate, welcoming, and respectful to all. Technology is central to the organization’s growth. A proprietary app allows volunteers to view available rescues and claim assignments, while donors can schedule pickups of surplus food. Volunteers can participate once or adopt a recurring assignment, with no required minimum commitment. The chapter has more than 1,000 registered volunteers, although Bowen emphasizes that it continually needs people willing to complete rescues. Funding is another priority, particularly for staffing, supplies, and gas cards for consistent volunteers. The organization is also testing a pilot with the City of Miami Beach’s Rising Above sustainability program that integrates its app with restaurants’ Toast point-of-sale systems. The goal is to allow restaurants to record surplus through their existing technology, which will automatically alert Food Rescue U.S. For Bowen, the work remains deeply personal. She still joins rescues, visits donors, and checks in with volunteers, even when the job means standing on a hot receiving dock. “It is really the best, most rewarding thing I’ve ever done,” she says. “I get up every day looking forward to going to a rescue.” For Bowen, the work comes down to one simple, yet powerful message: “Food is love. Food is kindness.”
"Food is love. Food is kindness."

or five days each fall, Fort Lauderdale remembers that its waterways can also serve as the world’s most extravagant showroom. The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) returns Oct. 28 through Nov. 1 for its 67th year, spreading sport fishers, center consoles, personal watercraft, and yacht-world royalty across six unique locations. The Broward County Convention Center will again serve as the anchor and transportation hub, while Bahia Mar, Las Olas Marina, and Superyacht Village each boast the waterfront scenes that have made FLIBS a global marine-industry fixture. Even by this show’s typically excessive standards, 2026 brings some unexpected additions. Perhaps the headliner is a floating pickleball court at Las Olas Marina, complete with a tournament for yacht crew members. The Windward VIP Experience also gets a notable pizzazz. Its Superyacht Village lounge returns with complimentary self-parking, an open bar, gourmet food, private restrooms and admission one hour before the gates open there. A second destination, now called the Windward VIP Cabana Club, moves to Bahia Mar Marina for a smaller waterfront setup offering the same amenities. Chefs Ryan O’Sullivan of “Hell’s Kitchen” and Dave White of “Below Deck” and “Chopped” will handle the culinary roster at both locations. At the Convention Center, guests can browse

fishing boats, runabouts, cruisers, marine technology, accessories, diving equipment, and plenty of gear. The Blue Wild returns with hands-on exhibits and activities, while the FLIBS Kids Corner brings crafts and face painting for the kiddos. On Saturday and Sunday, Don Dingman’s “Hook the Future” clinics begin at noon and 2 p.m., with each young attendee receiving a free fishing rod and reel. It can be a lot to navigate, and a little strategy goes a long way. Start by reviewing the six venues online and deciding whether the day calls for serious boat shopping, family activities, superyacht gawking, or a cocktail near the docks. Comfortable shoes are essential and so is sunscreen, water, and acceptance that seeing everything in one afternoon is impossible.
The Convention Center is the strongest launch point, with 3,000-plus parking spaces available for a flat $20 daily rate. From there, complimentary shuttles and golf carts connect the major venues. Brightline offers rail service into Fort Lauderdale, and a $15 daily Water Taxi pass supplies transportation and a scenic shortcut in one. Because there are no on-site box office locations, tickets must be purchased online at flibs.com One-day adult admission Thursday through Sunday is $48, while a Wednesday preview ticket costs $73 and can be used any day of the show. Two-day options run $80 for Thursday through Sunday or $105 when Wednesday access is included. Children ages 6 to 12 enter for $19, and younger guests are free with an adult. Windward VIP admission is $459 per person. The spectacle carries a sizable economic punch for our region. According to show organizers, FLIBS generates $1.79 billion annually and supports more than 100,000 jobs across South Florida. Few cities could stage something this massive on the water. Fort Lauderdale does it every year and in 2026 even found room for pickleball.

atthew Tkachuk certainly knows his way around Fort Lauderdale by now. He knows where to bring his parents for seafood, a romantic place to celebrate his anniversary, and the perfect spot for coffee that fuels the talent we’ve all come to love. Four years after joining the Florida Panthers, the 28-year-old has become as recognizable around town as he is at Amerant Bank Arena. Now entering his 11th NHL season, Tkachuk wants that influence to remain grounded in the standard that helped transform the Panthers into the champions they are. “I just want to continue being the leader that I am and drag guys along into the fight with me,” Matthew says. “Hopefully, we can get back to playoff hockey and try to achieve our ultimate goal again this year.” That mission comes with an extraordinary addition. His younger brother, Brady, is now wearing a Panthers sweater, too. The brothers have represented the United States together at the 4 Nations Face-Off and the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, where winning gold produced a moment

Brady expects to remember decades from now. After the clinching goal, they celebrated separately before spotting one another across the ice. “We made eye contact like, ‘Holy cow, we’re both gold medalists,’” Brady says. “I will never forget that hug.” Matthew treasures that Olympic triumph, but another shared dream remains. The brothers have imagined winning the Stanley Cup together since childhood, right down to one handing the trophy to the other. “That would be the greatest thing that’s ever happened to us,” Matthew says. “Olympic gold so far
in our careers, for a memory together, is pretty hard to beat, but hopefully the Stanley Cup can top that.” For Matthew, South Florida became home during his first Panthers season. He arrived in August 2022, helped propel the team to the Stanley Cup Final, and stayed in town celebrating until early July. By then, he had reached a firm conclusion with his now-wife, Ellie. “I remember looking at her and being like, ‘I never want to leave this place. This is where I want to be forever,’” he says. “This is as good as it gets.” His local rotation is like a Fort Lauderdale dining guide. Coconuts is mandatory whenever his parents visit. Greek Islands, Runway 84, Elbo Room, Café Europa, Daniel’s, and D’s Sports Bar all earn mentions. At Ann’s Florist & Coffee Bar, he is a regular. For him, being an active member of the community represents a larger win. “When I first got traded here, obviously the number one goal was to win a Stanley Cup, but the number two goal, just behind that, was to see the game of hockey grow and be in a better place than when I got here,” Matthew says. “It’s really been cool to see it continue to get better every
year.” Brady enters South Florida ready to contribute while learning the rhythms of a championship organization and observing his brother’s leadership up close. He also plans to identify local causes after previously working with the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa and a children’s hospital. “It’s our job and we love to play hockey, but it’s the opportunity to be a role model for the next generation of kids who look up to you,” Brady says. “That’s something that is really

Caring For Body and Mind MEMORIAL CANCER INSTITUTE OFFERS A WHOLE PERSON APPROACH TO DETECTION AND TREATMENT BY
L A I N E
D O S S
very October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month brings a familiar reminder to women: Get screened. At Memorial Healthcare System, however, that mammogram is viewed as only one part of a much larger spectrum of care — one designed to take a woman from prevention and early detection through diagnosis, treatment, and recovery without having to navigate the journey alone. “Finding cancer early is your best chance at a cure,” says Meredith Feinberg, vice president of Memorial Cancer Institute. “At Memorial, we do make it easy to get screened.” That emphasis on early detection extends beyond annual mammograms. Memorial also has a high-risk surveillance program for women who may have an elevated risk because of family history, genetics or other factors. The goal, Feinberg says, is to closely follow women who don’t have breast cancer but are at higher risk and require more specialized surveillance. For those who do receive a diagnosis, Memorial’s breast cancer program brings specialists and services together, from diagnostic testing and biopsies to breast surgery, oncology, and reconstruction. At Memorial, however, treating the body is only part of the journey. “We have a really beautiful facility, and we take care of the whole woman,” Feinberg says. “It’s about having advanced treatments, expert surgeons, and oncologists focused on breast cancer. That’s a given. But we also treat the whole woman.” That philosophy is reflected in Memorial’s Center for Body, Mind and Spirit, which offers services designed to address both the physical and emotional effects of cancer treatment. Patients can access massage therapy, bra and wig fittings, nail services, and other resources intended to help them feel more like themselves during and after treatment. Clinical care has also become increasingly personalized. Rather than treating every breast cancer the same way, physicians strive to tailor the most appropriate course of treatment for each patient. “We’ve moved away from the one-size-fits-all,” Feinberg says. “As the biology becomes understood, the treatments are specifically designed.”
Just as important, she says, is helping patients manage what can quickly become an overwhelming series of appointments, decisions, and emotions. Memorial’s oncology nurse navigators help coordinate care, connect patients with services, and make sure the next step happens when it should. “When you get a diagnosis, cancer is cells growing out of control, and suddenly your whole life feels out of control,” Feinberg says. “We try hard to take as much of the worry and burden away so that a patient focuses on healing.” The support extends to oncology-focused social workers, chaplains, nutritionists and other professionals. Feinberg says having multiple members of the care team available is particularly important because patients may not always feel comfortable telling their physician what they are experiencing. Memorial Healthcare System Board Commissioner Laura Raybin Miller says women also need to advocate for themselves, particularly when busy lives and caregiving responsibilities make it easy to postpone their own healthcare. “As women, we’re the caregivers, and we put everyone before ourselves,” Miller says. “We put off the regular exams even when we know. Listen to your body and follow your instinct.” Miller remembers a time when South Florida cancer patients sometimes had to leave the community to obtain highly specialized treatment, disrupting jobs and families in the process. Today, she says, Memorial has invested millions of dollars in building cancer services that allow patients to receive sophisticated care close to home. Memorial treats more than 5,000 new cancer patients, according to Miller, while also serving as a healthcare safety net for the community. “We don’t let that be an obstacle for patients in our community,” Feinberg says of a patient’s ability to pay. For both women, Breast Cancer Awareness Month ultimately comes down to action: schedule the mammogram, understand personal risk, ask questions, and seek another opinion when necessary. Says Feinberg, “Early detection. It’s your best chance.” LMGFL.COM OCTOBER 2026 65

(Natalia) What qualities do you strive for as a leader? Great leadership starts with leading by example. I strive to create an environment where people feel valued, supported, and inspired to grow. Dentistry is always evolving, so I believe a good leader should keep learning, adapting, and embracing innovation while keeping patients at the center of every decision. What inspires you on a day-to-day basis? My family, my patients, and especially my father, Dr. Alfredo Alvarado. He was a surgeon, inventor, and lifelong intellectual who taught me that learning should never stop. I carry that curiosity into dentistry, combining science, artistry, and technology to continually improve. What advice would you give your younger self? Trust yourself sooner. Work hard, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to take chances before you feel completely ready. Success isn’t having everything figured out—it’s continuing to learn, evolve, and move forward. (Natasha) What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader? Good leadership starts with leading by example and integrity. Ethics are incredibly important in my business. I believe when your heart is in the right place, it comes back to you. It may not be the quickest path, but it’s the most sustainable. I keep learning and adapting as permanent makeup evolves. What inspires you on a day-to-day basis? My mom is my biggest inspiration and supporter. She’s one of the hardest-working people I know. Watching her build an incredible practice has shown me what’s possible. I wouldn’t be where I am without her example and support. What advice would you give your younger self? Do the things that scare you. Change is scary, but never changing is scarier. Trust your gut, take the chance, and invest in yourself.

GLORIA ROJAS, LMFT VP OF GOVERNMENT RELATIONS WestCare Florida Gloria.Rojas@westcare.com What advice would you give your younger self? Trust the journey. You have no idea how many challenges you are facing today will shape the person you become. Every challenge you overcome will lead you exactly where you are meant to be. Every tear, every roadblock, every moment of uncertainty, every time you wondered what tomorrow would look like, it will all be worth it. There will be moments when you question yourself, your choices, and whether you have what it takes. But you do! Do not give up when things get hard. Trust yourself, trust the journey, and take the next step, even when you cannot see what is ahead. One day, you’ll look back and realize that all those difficult moments were building you into the person you were always meant to become. What’s your favorite piece of wisdom? There is one that I try to live by every day: “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” The way we perceive the world is an incredibly powerful tool. Our perspective shapes our experiences, influences how we respond to challenges, and allows us to intentionally create the life we want. When we shift our mindset and focus on what is possible rather than what is standing in our way, we can bring the power of intention into every aspect of our lives. What aspect of giving back gives you the biggest satisfaction? I love working with families experiencing the foster care system, whether it’s a parent who has lost their child or a teenager who feels like they have no one in their corner. Sometimes giving back means sitting in silence, offering a hug, or simply walking alongside someone when no one else would.

The greatest satisfaction comes from knowing our work can change the trajectory of a child’s life. As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I founded Lauren’s Kids nearly two decades ago to give children what I wish I had known: how to recognize unsafe behavior, understand their boundaries and speak up — while giving adults tools to recognize the signs and protect them. Since then, our Safer, Smarter Kids and Safer, Smarter Teens curricula have reached millions of children. Nothing is more meaningful than hearing that a child used something they learned to speak up, or knowing our work may have prevented abuse. What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader? Great leadership starts with listening, but it cannot end there. Survivors, families, teachers, prosecutors, law enforcement, and child protection professionals have shown me where systems are failing. My responsibility is to listen, understand what needs to change, and fight to change it. Leadership also requires persistence. In the Legislature, I learned that progress can mean coming back year after year, refusing to accept “no” and finding common ground. I strive to lead with empathy, courage, and persistence — and turn what I hear into action. What inspires you on a day-to-day basis? My children inspire me every day. I was elected to the Florida Senate while pregnant with my twins and took office two weeks after they were born. Becoming a mother gave new meaning to work I had already spent years doing as a survivor and child advocate. My kids remind me what we are fighting for: a future where children are safer, survivors are supported, and every child is free to simply be a kid. I want that future just as fiercely for every child.

What advice would you give your younger self? Go ahead, let people underestimate you. Young. Blonde. A woman in a male dominated industry. Let it fuel you. Let the assumptions push you further than comfort ever would. Entrepreneurship’s in your DNA and everything you go through, good and bad, is preparation for exactly where you’re supposed to be. You’re a builder and disruptor. Not everyone will understand that. Lean into it anyway. Because when your time comes it’ll all fall into place by design. Not by accident. Educating owners how to make actionable decisions from that information while teaching them financial literacy compounds that impact exponentially. Centsible Solutions was built on the belief that impact isn’t just the mission, it’s the passion. Most owners invested their life’s work in their company, emotionally and financially. That’s personal. Showing up as the financial partner who truly understands that is what I live for. What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader? Great leaders don’t just build businesses. They build people. I strive to be a collaborative leader, leading through a financial literacy lens. Translating cross functionally to close the gap between vision and reality in order to grow tomorrow’s leaders. I intentionally foster a culture where people are encouraged to rise to their full potential, to own their outcomes, and drive towards a unified vision. That means giving people a seat at the table before they realize they’re ready, nurturing them, and building confidence through the act of doing. Because the greatest measure of leadership is impact that outlasts your presence. LMGFL.COM OCTOBER 2026 81

FISKE, A SPRINGLINE COMPANY FISKE ADVISORY, LLC (Sheri Fiske Schultz) What inspires you on a daily basis? My career started at PwC before joining my father’s firm to help him develop the forensic valuation practice. Growing that into the firm it is today never stops inspiring me. I love working with our team and I’m also inspired by the work itself, knowing that our analysis helps attorneys support their clients. But my biggest inspiration is my family, especially my four grandchildren. What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader? I strive to lead with integrity, transparency, and genuine care for my team. I believe great leadership means listening first, empowering people to do their best work, and celebrating their wins. I like to give people opportunities to grow. I try to lead by example, showing up with a strong work ethic and positive attitude every day. Most importantly, I want my team to know I have their back, both professionally and personally. (Katie Gilden) What’s your favorite piece of wisdom? One of my favorite pieces of wisdom comes from Nora Roberts: life is like juggling balls in the air. Some are made of glass, others are made of plastic. Success isn’t about keeping every ball in the air. The real skill is knowing which ones can bounce, which ones can’t, and recognizing that the answer may change daily. What’s the biggest challenge you’ve overcome?Losing my mother nearly nine years ago was the greatest challenge of my life. She was my role model, my sounding board, and the person I called for advice. Learning to navigate motherhood and leadership without her guidance taught me resilience and confidence in my own voice. Her absence taught me one of the hardest lessons of leadership: sometimes you have to become the person you once turned to for guidance.

LAURA EATON-JANKOV
AUTONOMOUS FAMILY NURSE PRACTITIONER FOUNDER & CLINIC DIRECTOR UltaMed, Oakland Park laura@ultamed.com What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader? I lead with integrity, accountability, and curiosity. After more than 30 years in healthcare—as a clinical researcher, industry consultant, former U.S. Army Reserve nurse officer, and triple board-certified autonomous family nurse practitioner, I have learned that expertise matters but listening matters equally. At UltaMed, I provide primary care family medicine, medical aesthetics, supervised weight loss, menopause management, and peptide therapies. Leadership means seeing the whole person, making evidence-based care understandable, and ensuring patients feel respected. A leader must remain willing to learn, acknowledge what can improve, and turn ideas into action. What aspect of giving back gives you the greatest satisfaction? The greatest satisfaction comes from removing barriers that might otherwise prevent someone from receiving care. Through my nonprofit, the South Florida Community Health Foundation, we are expanding access to essential healthcare, education, screenings, and diagnostics for financially or medically underserved people. One current initiative provides affordable sports physicals and 12-lead ECG screenings for student athletes, helping them participate safely without cost becoming an obstacle. It also helps Florida schools comply with the new “Second Chance Act.” Knowing one screening could identify a serious health concern and prevent an unnecessary death is deeply rewarding. What advice would you give your younger self? Do not wait for permission to build what you know is needed. Trust your experience but never stop learning. Important work begins when you stop accepting “that is how it has always been done,” ask what patients and communities truly need, and find a way to make it happen. Progress rarely arrives perfectly packaged. It comes from taking the next responsible step, surrounding yourself with principled people, and being persistent enough to keep going. BIANA MURNANE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER BrightStar Credit Union marketing@bscu.org Bscu.org What aspect of giving back gives you the biggest satisfaction? For me, it’s simply knowing that I’ve made a difference in someone’s life. Whether it’s helping an individual, a family, or supporting our community as a whole through our financial tools, educational programs and outreach, there’s nothing more rewarding than knowing we’ve been able to make someone’s life a little better and given them financial confidence. That’s why at our credit union our core philosophy is that we are “people helping people.” What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader? Be a genuine, motivational leader that inspires employees to accomplish great things that they never knew they were capable of achieving. What inspires you on a day-to-day basis? My kids inspire me every day to be the best version of myself and to lead by example in everything I do. I’m also fortunate to work alongside a highly motivated and dedicated executive team whose passion, commitment, and drive constantly push me to be better and remind me of what we can accomplish together. What advice would you give your younger self? I would tell my younger self to take more time to look back and celebrate the successes along the way. I’ve always been focused on what’s next, but I’ve learned how important it is to pause, appreciate how far you’ve come, and recognize the people and moments that helped you get there.

LAURA RAYBIN MILLER COMMISSIONER
Memorial Healthcare System Lraybinmiller@mhs.net What civic personal and charitable causes most attract your attention? It’s been my honor and privilege to serve as Commissioner of Memorial Healthcare System (South Broward Hospital District) for 26 consecutive years. Over that time the hospital system has evolved into a full-service, best in class health system, supported by a distinguished medical staff. As we acknowledge Breast Cancer Awareness for the month of October, we are reminded how important it is to have this state-of-the-art care right here in our community. Memorial’s breast cancer center cares for the body, mind and spirit and provides a full range of services to women in our community regardless of their ability to pay. What aspect of giving back gives you the most satisfaction? Healing the body, mind, and spirit of individuals in the community. Memorial Healthcare has become a premier clinically integrated system in launching the Better Together collaboration with our sister organization to the north, Broward Health. This historic partnership is designed to expand access to Broward’s citizens through our primary care network, maternal health service, and food assistance for the uninsured and underinsured residents of Broward County. What qualities do you strive for in a leader? Integrity and the courage to always do the right thing are the key characteristics I always strive to embody in my public service. My institutional knowledge of Memorial and my pulse on the community’s healthcare needs, keeps me grounded in always doing the right thing for the community in my governance capacity as Commissioner of the health system. I’m thrilled to have taken a bold and historic vote recently in making Shane Strum our permanent President and CEO of Memorial Healthcare System. Shane, who also serves as CEO of Broward Health, will continue to lead both organizations. This historic initiative from both boards, will expand access for residents and will lead to greater clinical capabilities and lead to further collaboration among both systems. KAVAJA SARDUY
VICE PRESIDENT OF OPERATIONS Chapman Partnership ksarduy@chapmanpartnership.org What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader? Accessibility, above all. Not just being available on a calendar but being genuinely reachable. I listen as closely to my staff’s victories as I do their struggles, because celebrating what’s working matters just as much as solving what isn’t. And I try every day to build a culture where my leaders feel safe enough to treat mistakes as lessons. What’s your favorite piece of wisdom? A quote often attributed to Mother Teresa has stayed with me as I think about true wisdom: that in the end, we won’t be judged by our achievements or degrees or wealth, but by how we showed up for people in need. Whether we fed the hungry, welcomed the stranger, or gave shelter to those without a home. What inspires you on a day-to-day basis? I have the privilege of leading operations and programming, and providing direct services for families and individuals experiencing homelessness in our centers. I get to witness the moment housing becomes real — the smiles, the exhale, the joy. I also get to build programs that create genuine pathways to self-sufficiency. The real story of our success isn’t the number of people we serve but the quiet triumph and the hard-won resilience carried by every family we welcome home. What advice would you give your younger self? Know your value proposition. As women, we’re too often taught to wait for permission — to be asked, to be chosen, to be validated before we believe we belong in the room. I’d tell my younger self: you don’t need permission. Your perspective, your instincts, your leadership - they were never something to earn. They were always yours. The seat was already yours; you just had to sit in it.

MATTHEW BECK SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT StevenDouglas mbeck@stevendouglas.com What aspect of giving back gives you the greatest satisfaction? What civic, personal, or charitable causes attract your attention? As a member of the United Way of Broward Board of Directors, my focus is on strengthening the wellbeing of our local community and inspiring others to give back. I was taught as a young kid that kindness, generosity, and humility go a long way, and that lesson has stayed with me. Seeing that mindset take root in others, whether it is a colleague, a friend, or even someone I do not know, is what makes the work feel worthwhile. What’s your favorite piece of wisdom? Create your own luck. I have always believed that the harder you work, the luckier you get. Opportunities tend to find the people who put in the effort to be ready for them. What inspires you on a day-to-day basis? The chance to wake up and lead a full, impactful life for my family, my work, and my community. Time is our most precious resource, and I try to make the most of every single day we are given. What advice would you give your younger self? Travel more and see the world. ANDREW M. CHEHATA H2GO
Chehata Family Holdings Andrew@h2gofla.com hello@h2gofla.com What’s your favorite piece of wisdom? My favorite piece of wisdom is that to succeed, you have to be willing to fail first. If success were easy, everyone would be doing it. When I look at where I am today compared to where I started, I think about all the times I’ve fallen flat on my chin, had to pick myself back up, and ask, “How did we get here, and what can we do differently?” Those moments of failure have taught me some of my most valuable lessons. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’ve learned that failure isn’t what sets you back; it’s how you respond to it, learn from it, and use it to become better that ultimately moves you forward. What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader? I strive to be a leader who empowers my team and gives them the confidence, support, and tools they need to succeed. I believe that their success is a reflection of the opportunities I’ve given them, while their mistakes are ultimately my responsibility as their leader. To me, great leadership means putting my team in a position to succeed and taking ownership when things don’t go as planned. What aspect of giving back gives you the biggest satisfaction? The most rewarding part of giving back is knowing that I was able to help someone when I had the opportunity to make a difference. Whether it’s something big or small, being able to make someone’s life a little easier and knowing that my actions had a positive impact is incredibly gratifying.

I strive to lead by example with integrity, humility, and purpose. I believe great leadership starts with listening—understanding your team, recognizing their strengths, and giving them the support and opportunities they need to succeed. I also believe in holding myself accountable and willing to make difficult decisions when necessary. What inspires you on a day-to-day basis? What inspires me every day is the opportunity to make a positive impact on the people around me. In hospitality, no two days are exactly the same, and I’m constantly inspired by the energy of our team, the relationships we build with our guests, and the opportunity to create memorable experiences. I’m also inspired by the people who believed in me and helped me along the way. Their guidance reminds me of the importance of paying it forward and being that same source of encouragement for others. Every day, I try to learn something new, challenge myself to be better, and leave the people and places I touch a little better than I found them. What advice would you give your younger self? I would tell my younger self to trust the journey and not be afraid of the unknown. You don’t have to have everything figured out right away. Be willing to take risks, learn from your mistakes, and embrace every experience—even the difficult ones—as an opportunity to grow. I would also remind myself to invest in relationships and never underestimate the impact you can have on others. Success isn’t only about what you accomplish personally; it’s also about the people you help along the way. Stay humble, work hard, be authentic, and never stop learning. AUSTIN GRAHAM FOUNDER & PRESIDENT Haulin’ Assets Moving & Storage What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader? I believe a great leader has to lead from the front. I would never ask someone on my team to do something I wouldn’t do myself. I believe in accountability, consistency, and giving people opportunities to grow. As we’ve grown, one of my biggest focuses has been developing people who can become leaders themselves. What inspires you on a day-to-day basis? Growth. I started Haulin’ Assets Moving & Storage in 2015 and seeing what it has become keeps me hungry for what’s next. I’m motivated by building something bigger than myself—creating careers for our team, raising the standard in the moving industry, and building a company South Florida can be proud of. What advice would you give your younger self? Think bigger sooner. A lot of times we limit ourselves based on what seems realistic at that moment. I’ve learned that the bigger the vision becomes, the more you grow into the person capable of achieving it. What’s the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome? Learning how to go from doing everything myself to actually building a company. Entrepreneurship forces you to constantly evolve. What gets you through one stage won’t necessarily get you through the next. Learning to trust people, build leaders, and create systems has been one of my biggest challenges—and one of the most rewarding.

ANTHONY LICATA CEO
Licata Hospitality | Hugh’s Catering & Events Argentelle Catering | Big Chef Anthony@hughscatering.com Hughscatering.com What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader? Leadership starts with accountability, decisiveness, and loyalty. A leader makes the hard call, owns the result, and never asks his team to carry a burden he would not carry himself. I set a high standard, speak directly, and reward the people who deliver. Your word has to mean something. Titles do not make leaders; consistency under pressure does. My responsibility is to give the team direction, tools, and confidence—and to stand with them when things get difficult. What’s a piece of advice you would have given to your younger self? Every decision has a price, even when the bill does not come due immediately. Slow down, think further ahead, and never confuse fearlessness with recklessness. Ambition can take you far, but discipline, patience, and the right people determine whether you stay there. Protect your name, keep your word, and understand that shortcuts usually become the longest road. You do not have to prove yourself to everyone. Build something solid, because the choices you make today will shape the rest of your life. What aspect of giving back gives you the most satisfaction? The greatest satisfaction comes from backing organizations that make a real, measurable difference. We are proud to support the Ann Storck Center and Lauren’s Kids. The Ann Storck Center helps children and adults with developmental disabilities build independence and live fuller lives. Lauren’s Kids works to prevent child sexual abuse through education and awareness and helps survivors heal. As a father and a business owner, those missions are deeply personal to me. Being a leader, to me, means leading from the front, not the back. I always aim to set the example for work ethic, dedication, and the pursuit of expanding my knowledge basis as the core foundation of the practice. I am always looking for ways to better the entire patient experience while growing the business. The ability to respect and value all of the Mosca Plastic Surgery employees as valuable ‘family’ in such a concierge service industry helps to strengthen the bond within the business as a leader. What inspires you on a day-to-day basis? As a plastic surgeon, the ability to renew selfconfidence in a prospective patient - the way they see themselves in the mirror and the gratitude that they express when they see you at post-op or even a simple note through social media is what makes it all worth it at the end of the day. What advice would you give your younger self? If I had the chance to speak to myself in the past, I would tell him to enjoy the ‘success within the struggle’ a little more. Building a medical practice while also being a compassionate and skilled surgeon is something that takes years to achieve, and that all starts in the early years of residency. Instead of always looking to the future “grand” success - enjoy what you’re doing on the day-to-day more often. What’s your favorite piece of wisdom? No amount of money ever bought another second of time.

I would tell my younger self to trust the process and stop feeling like everything has to happen immediately. Life isn’t a race, and some of the best opportunities come from staying consistent, learning from mistakes, and building meaningful relationships. I would also tell myself to take more calculated risks and not let fear of failure stop me from pursuing new opportunities. Most importantly, invest in yourself early—your health, knowledge, finances, and relationships. These are the things that truly compound over time. And while pursuing your goals, don’t forget to enjoy the journey. What inspires you on a day-to-day basis? What inspires me most is growth and knowing there’s always another level I can reach. I’m motivated by seeing progress in my career, business, health, and personal life. My family also gives me purpose because I want to create opportunities not only for myself but for the people I care about. I’m also inspired by meeting successful people, hearing their stories, and learning from their experiences. I never want to become too comfortable; I want to continue learning, challenging myself, and enjoying the life I’m building. What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader? I strive for integrity, empathy, accountability, and leading by example. I believe a good leader listens, recognizes the strengths of others, and creates opportunities for people to succeed. SEAN MURRAY FOUNDER & PRESIDENT Triumph Consulting Corp www.wegetyoupaid.com Sean@triumphfl.com What do you believe has been key to your success? One thing that comes to mind: I regularly take stock of my habits – which ones are helping me succeed, and which ones are stealing my time and energy. Then I audit accordingly. From what I eat to how I spend my weekends, everything I do either helps me grow or sets me back. What accomplishments are you most proud of? There have been a few over the years. I’m going into my 20th year in business, helping people restore and rebuild their properties when they need it most. Building a company that has served people for two decades is something I’m incredibly proud of. I’m also a U.S. Army veteran, former volunteer firefighter, and Eagle Scout – experiences that shaped the way I lead and serve others. What’s your best advice for aspiring business owners? Network. That’s how I built my business. But remember, it’s not only about what you can get, but also what you can give. They say “It takes a village” - I believe the same is true in business. I’ve been part of many networking groups and eventually created my own event, Business Meats, which brings a great group of people together over delectable smoked meats and amazing sides. It’s about building genuine relationships, supporting one another, and creating opportunities together. What’s next in life and business? I want to keep expanding my mind. That’s where growth happens. Travel has been a huge part of that, as well as trying new experiences with my wonderful wife. We love active hobbies that challenge both the mind and body. I believe it’s important to continually push myself outside my comfort zone. Being comfortable is a risk I’m not willing to take.

What civic, personal or charitable causes most attract your attention? I volunteer with the Doberman Rescue League in Pompano Beach. Anyone with a dog knows they are better than humans, and being able to help an animal get a second chance is incredibly rewarding. A large part of why I resonate with Dobermans is that many misunderstand them due to their appearance. They may look intimidating, but most are just big loaves of love. I’ve learned the same can be true of people, there’s often much more beneath the surface. What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader? One of my first bosses gave me a copy of It’s Your Ship by Captain D. Michael Abrashoff. Fifteen years later, its principles have consistently found relevance throughout my life, whether practicing law, working in real estate, or pursuing business ventures. The biggest lesson I took from the book is that leadership is about creating ownership among the people around you. A great leader leads by example, listens, clearly communicates the mission, and gives people the trust and responsibility to own their role in achieving success. The best leaders don’t simply tell people where the ship is going, they create an environment where everyone aboard feels like it’s their ship too. What inspires you on a day-to-day basis? The pursuit of what’s next. I believe high-level performers need a quest, something just beyond their current reach that keeps them hungry. I’m naturally competitive and goal-oriented, and I often find myself looking at people ten years ahead of me and asking, “What are they doing that I’m not?” I don’t view their success with envy; I use it as a benchmark for what’s possible. There will always be someone further down the road than I am, and I find that inspiring. The goal isn’t to catch them, it’s to keep raising the standard of what I believe I’m capable of.

The Social Group SocialGroup.com What qualities do you strive for in trying to be a great leader? I want everyone on the team, from account and content managers to producers and developers, to feel that they’re empowered and heard within their role. Great ideas can come from anyone and anywhere, so I want to be approachable and amenable to those concepts. Clear communication is also paramount. The more defined one’s role and responsibilities are, the stronger the foundation and overall integration will be. When we bring a concept to life, there are always multiple people involved. Who’s the best at overall vision? Who’s responsible for storyboarding and filming? Who should set up overall strategy and determine what the overall goals should be? It’s an entire creative ecosystem, and we’re only as strong as our weakest link. It starts with me and it’s my job to make sure the team is clear and to generate enthusiasm. What advice would you give your younger self? Definitely be patient. When I was younger, I wanted answers to everything. I hated uncertainty. But I’ve realized that uncertainty is just a part of life, so really it’s preparation that’s key and being able and willing to adapt. What’s the biggest challenge you had to overcome? Being in business, there are challenges every day. I wouldn’t really point to one specific challenge. I see it as an ever changing, evolving challenge to remain relevant, creative, and dominant in our field. Our clients probably get pitched weekly, if not daily, from competitors. But I know if we’re proactive and maintain a very high level of quality and performance, we can head off most of the competition. And for the most part, we have.

My job is to attract them, give them a clear vision, and build something they want to stay for. I’ve had to learn the difference between knowing every detail and needing to control every detail. You can have high standards and still give people room. Otherwise, why hire talented people? What advice would you give your younger self? You don’t become advanced by doing fancy things. You get there by doing the obvious things you already know you should be doing but aren’t. Keep your word. Know your numbers. Have the difficult conversation. I’d tell my younger self to spend less time looking for a breakthrough and more time getting the basics right. What’s your favorite piece of wisdom? “Chop your own wood and it will warm you twice.” I love that because the work pays you back before you ever reach the goal. Honesty, respect, passion, curiosity, and engagement. These are our core values, which serve as the compass for our culture. When you work with us, your values and my values have to align in this way. What inspires you on a day-to-day basis? Making people happy. Life is chaotic, both on a personal level and in the world at large. Especially in the restaurant business, for the short time someone is in my establishment we have the chance to give them an incredible experience — a moment of calm in a world flooded with chaos. What advice would you give your younger self? Don’t be jealous of others. Root for everyone to succeed. Your turn will come. You can only control what you do. What’s your favorite piece of wisdom? Jerry Garcia said, “There is nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile.” I also live by the idea of recognition and reassurance — we need to recognize everything, good or bad, and then reassure people that we’ll either take care of the situation or praise them for doing a great job. And above all: do the best job you can. What civic, personal or charitable causes most attract your attention? Feeding people — it’s the greatest medicine. Final Final Hope in the Form of a Pink Jacket BY
L A I N E
D O S S
Every October, Michael Wild wears the same pink sport coat for 31 days. For the past 10 years, the jacket has been his impossible-to-miss way of raising money for the American Cancer Society and breast cancer awareness. What began with six logos and a simple fundraising idea has grown into an annual tradition that has raised more than $150,000. The idea came when a friend involved with the American Cancer Society asked Wild to participate in the "Real Men Wear Pink" campaign. Already heavily involved with nonprofits, he worried he had exhausted friends and colleagues with requests for donations, tickets, and sponsorships. “If I have to ask for any more money from people, they’re going to stop taking my calls,” he remembers thinking. Then inspiration struck. Wild thought about NASCAR drivers and professional athletes who wear sponsors’ logos. Why not do something similar for charity? “If you give me $300, for less than $10 a day, I am a walking billboard for you, and it’s for a good cause,” he says of the original pitch. Today, the minimum donation is $500, paid directly to the American Cancer Society. Last year, his jacket carried 32 logos. There’s one catch: Wild draws every logo himself. Using colored Sharpies, he recreates each company’s branding on a new pink jacket every year. He has been tasked with drawing everything from a multi-faceted diamond to the Brooklyn Bridge to, memorably, a QR code. Once October arrives, the jacket goes everywhere Wild goes— work, events, travel, and even Halloween, when his costume has to incorporate it. This year, he’ll even wear it to his son’s bar mitzvah. But the jacket has become more than a clever fundraising idea. On a bachelor-party trip to Nashville, a woman asked why he was wearing it. After hearing the story, she told Wild her mother was a breast cancer survivor and asked if she could write a message to her on the jacket. Others followed, and that year's jacket included logos on the back and heartfelt messages on the front. That connection is why Wild has no plans to retire the tradition. “There’s something so organic about it,” he says. “It’s very personal. I’m hand-drawing all of them. All of these people are people that I know.” After a decade, the pink jacket has become part of Wild’s identity. “Everyone knows me,” he says. “I’m the pink jacket guy.” There’s still time to donate to the American Cancer Society and be a part of Michael Wild’s 2026 Pink Jacket campaign.
