Gow, Thin & Pla Grow, Food helps us

A balanced meal combines different types of fuel. Protein supports growing muscles and helps students feel satisfied. Grains and other carbohydrates provide energy for learning a n d a c t i v i t y.

These are small, manageable choices that can make a meaningful difference. We are not asking students to label foods as “good” or “bad.” Instead, we want them to understand how different foods work together to provide the energy and nutrients their bodies need.

MORE CHOICES, ONE BETTER HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCE Our newly redesigned high school dining program gives students more opportunities to build meals around their individual needs, schedules, and preferences. H E R I TA G E K I T C H E N | T R A D I T I O N Heritage Kitchen serves the familiar daily entrée also offered at our PK–8 cafeteria. Students can enjoy a complete, traditional school meal while having the option to add additional protein when they need more substantial fuel. FRESH & FUEL | WELLNESS Fresh & Fuel provides choices such as grilled chicken, eggs, Greek yogurt, fruit, salads, vegetables, protein snack packs, and healthy carbohydrate options. This area makes it easier for students—including our student-athletes—to select foods that support energy, performance, and recovery. LION’S DEN EXPRESS | CONVENIENCE Lion’s Den Express offers convenient hot and cold selections for students who want variety or need to move through lunch quickly. Entrée salads, sandwiches, wraps, bento-style meals, parfaits, fruit cups, snack packs, and rotating hot specials give students more ways to create a satisfying meal without sacrificing valuable lunch time. Together, these areas create a more welcoming, collegeinspired dining experience while giving students greater variety and ownership over their choices. Whether a student wants a traditional hot meal, performance-focused fuel, or a quick grab-and-go option, the goal remains the same: helping every student leave the cafeteria nourished, energized, and ready for what comes next.

Septmember Septmembe Seasona Seasonal Spotligh: Spotlight: Apple Apples

CONTINUE THE C O N V E R S AT I O N

At Hom! A Try asking your child one of these questions after school:

September is a perfect time to place apples in the spotlight.

What did you choose for lunch today?

According to the USDA, one medium apple with the skin provides approximately four grams of dietary fiber.

Which foods helped you grow, think, or play?

Apples also count toward the fruit portion of a balanced meal.

How many food groups were represented in your meal?

For a fun family activity, compare two varieties—such as a sweet Gala and a tart Granny Smith—and ask which flavor, texture, and color everyone prefers. This encourages students to explore seasonal produce without labeling one choice as better than another. Let us hear from you! Send photos and stories to communications@grapevinefaith.

What fruit or vegetable could you add next time? A simple family goal is to build meals with at least three food groups or add one colorful fruit or vegetable to an already familiar meal. Small choices, practiced can help students develop healthy habits that last far beyond the lunchroom.
