Historically, we introduce our 2023 Chair of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors in our February Newsletter. For 2023, our Chair is Kosse Maykus, owner of Maykus Homes. While he has been ready to serve and excited making plans for our new year, unfortunately in December, he suffered a massive heart attack. Thanks to Grapevine’s phenomenal medical teams, the paramedics were able to revive him, and Baylor Scott and White was able to stabilize him to be moved to their heart hospital in Plano where he remains today (thankfully sitting up, talking and beginning his rehab). As Eason Maykus shared at our Annual Awards Banquet: "My dad is a man with a mission, and this year the book “212° - the extra degree” was not only shared with the Board of Directors, but with the staff at Maykus Homes. His focus was to not create something new, bigger and better, but to take all that we do so well, and improve it at least one degree. At 211 degrees, water is hot. At 212 degrees, it creates steam, which can move a locomotive. That one degree can make a difference, a big difference whether in the Chamber or in Maykus Homes. And I know that the Chamber’s Board will carry my Dad’s focus of working together to make everything the chamber does, at least that one degree better. We know that this idea will be carried throughout the year, and the impact will be felt, not just in the chamber, but in our community." Until the day that we can officially and in person pass the gavel on to Kosse, the 2022 and the 2023 Executive Boards have teamed up to keep us moving forward. I have agreed to step back into the Chairmanship in an interim role, and do my best to fulfill the mission that Kosse was able to share with the board at our December Strategic Planning meeting. We will hold Kosse’s place in the board room, until he is ready to step into his role (which we all pray will be sooner rather than later.) For now, we will hold onto his gavel for him. 2023 is going to be a great year for the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce, and I know that the board will continue to stay focused on helping our fellow Chamber members, and community with “212° - the extra degree” of focus!
