The Chamber Focused on Creating Stronger Connections
As summer begins to wind down, the Chamber team is already looking ahead to a busy fall. Over the past several months, much of our work has centered around a common theme: creating stronger connections between our businesses, workforce, and community. One of the biggest steps forward has been welcoming Nikki Rochholz as our Regional Workforce Coordinator. Workforce continues to be one of the most significant challenges facing local employers, and this new position gives the Chamber dedicated capacity to work directly with businesses, connect them to workforce resources, and strengthen partnerships throughout the region. Nikki has hit the ground running, meeting with employers and building relationships that will help us better understand and respond to their needs. We are also preparing for the next cohort of the Rogue Leadership Training Experience. Following a successful inaugural year, the program continues to grow as we develop local leaders who understand our community, our economy, and the role they can play in shaping our future. We are especially excited about the opportunity to continue expanding this program and eventually create curriculum that can be adapted by Chambers and communities across Oregon. August was also a great reminder of why investing in our future matters. Lemonade Day once again brought young entrepreneurs throughout Grants Pass together to learn about starting a business, setting goals, serving customers, and giving back. Seeing our community support these young business owners is always one of the highlights of the year. Behind the scenes, we continue working on additional tools for our members, including our new Chamber Health Insurance Benefits program, VentureHub Rogue Valley, and ongoing business advocacy efforts. Each of these initiatives is designed around the same goal: making our region a better place to start, grow, and operate a business. There is a lot happening at your Chamber, and there is even more ahead. Thank you to our members, volunteers, partners, and sponsors who continue to make this work possible. t the end of this month, I will be starting at the University of Oregon to pursue a degree in Journalism. As I reflect on my time at the Chamber of Commerce, I realize how much I have learned about local politics, business, and technology development. I would consider myself lucky if I retained even a fraction of everything I have been exposed to. One of my biggest takeaways has been realizing that people within the same community often face the same problems. That may sound obvious, but when people do not come together and discuss those problems, it is easy to forget. Local businesses and individuals may want change in the same areas, but starting a project on your own often does not accomplish much if no one knows about it. A Chamber of Commerce provides a place for people and businesses to come together and create solutions to problems that might otherwise go unnoticed. For businesses looking for more members at their events or more customers, it can create connections. For those looking for employees, or individuals looking for employment, it can help develop skills and opportunities. For businesses struggling with security, it can provide ways to engage with local government and in conversations about budgets and law enforcement. And when those connections are formed, even more solutions become possible: getting a
needed promotion into print or radio, helping get a bill passed, knowing the right person to call for assistance, or simply knowing who else cares about the same issue. During my time at the Chamber, I have met so many hardworking people, both within and outside of the office, who care deeply about the community. I have also met people with countless ideas about what should be addressed, changed, or added to our community. What I have learned is that we are rarely the only ones who care about the problems we see. There are more people out there who care about the same causes we do. Sometimes, the first step toward creating change is simply remembering that and figuring out how to find those people, come together, and work with them.

Rat Rod Rukkus RUKKUS Rebels – More Than Just Cars What started with a $68 investment and a big dream has quickly grown into one of our community’s most spirited car clubs. In May 2024, Dorian LaFlamme was asked if he wanted to take over the Rat Rod Rukkus Car Show after the 2024 show was canceled and its previous owner was ready to move on. On June 1, Dorian purchased the show and registered the business in his own name — and he hasn’t looked back since. During those early years, it was largely Dorian and his friend Ray Rosa, owner of Operation Rambo, working to build momentum. Then, in October 2025, they started the RUKKUS Rebels Car Club with just eight members. Today, less than a year later, the club has grown to 65 members and more than 2,500 Facebook followers. But the RUKKUS Rebels are about much more than cars. With a “service first” heart, members regularly show up for their community — helping other local car shows such as Cruise the Rogue, supporting local businesses by bringing cars and excitement to community events like Concerts in the Park, and even hosting a car show for residents at The Suites retirement community. They also take care of their own, recently coming together to help a member remove and repair a damaged engine in his Chevy, getting it back on the road in less than two weeks. That friendship and camaraderie is at the heart of what makes the RUKKUS Rebels special. This month, the community can experience the Rat Rod Rukkus Car Show, with the Swap Meet kicking off Thursday, September 17, the Car Cruise rolling through downtown Friday evening from 6–8 p.m., and the main show Saturday, September 19, from 8 a.m.–4 p.m. at the Pottsville Museum. Expect vendors, food, music, Pin Up Girl and Beard contests, a Poker Run, plenty of incredible cars — including Ladies Lane — and a Kids Corner featuring a bounce house, Kids’ Choice Award, free bicycle helmets from Caveman Kiwanis, and even a kids welding class. The RUKKUS Rebels are already looking toward the future, with plans for new attractions such as a Valve Cover Derby. The Young Professionals Network is for young professionals in the target age range of 18-45 who are looking for networking opportunities with other young professionals, connections to the community and business leaders, community engagement, and professional development. The network holds monthly luncheons, quarterly socials, and community service projects.
While taking a pause in July, our Young Professionals Network jumped right back in with both feet for some quality professional development. Our local HR guru, Charlotte Hintz, presented on the topic, “Work Well with Others—Your Secret Weapon for Getting Ahead,” or, as Charlotte put it, “How Not to Get Fired.” The presentation covered all things peopling. From navigating generational differences and varying work ethics to managing different personalities and communication styles, Charlotte gave us practical tools to successfully navigate the many situations we encounter in the workplace. The bottom line? Your degree teaches you what to do, but your job teaches you how to work with humans. Charlotte reminded us that simply being good at your job isn’t always enough to get ahead. When it comes to hiring, she encouraged employers to hire for attitude, not aptitude. Skills can be taught, but a poor attitude or personality can have a lasting impact on a workplace. The biggest takeaway was simple: Learn how your co-workers communicate best. Whether it’s a phone call, email, or face-to-face conversation, meeting people at their communication level can lead to better understanding, stronger relationships, and, ultimately, better results. A big thank you to Charlotte for sharing her expertise, humor, and plenty of real-world advice on how to work well with others—and, of course, how not to get fired!
