Blue Dot voices concerns around nuclear plant proposal NATALIE HAMILTON Reporter
The proposal to build the world’s largest nuclear power station in Wesleyville “is not a windfall” for Northumberland County, it’s “a transfer of risk,” says Blue Dot Northumberland (Blue Dot.) Blue Dot is a group of local citizens advocating for the preservation of farmland and the promotion of sustainable economic development in Northumberland. The group, through Ralph Dorrie, made a delegation before Northumberland County council during its recent August meeting. The presentation covered various aspects of the potential perceived impact, from economic to environmental to health, and more, if the Ontario government and OPG go ahead with the proposal to build the plant in Wesleyville. “There’s no confirmed reactor design,” said Dorrie. “There’s no publicly-released cost estimate, but we know based on recent projects and conservative international benchmarks, the plant will or would cost CONTINUED TO PAGE 5
