The Palm Pilot may not ring twice, but the alerts may as well sound in the doldrums, the consequences of poor choices.
The Midas Touch on Food with Scholars of Sustenance and the ORCA
Grand Hyatt Manila is one of the properties that proudly champions sustainability, with food as its main opportunity driver. The team has once again taken strides to see this through, and to ensure the numbers aren’t as egregious when closing time rolls around.
The emphasis heavily lies on two factors –connections and contraptions – to ensure this waste is mitigated properly. Buffets make up more than half of food waste. Juxtapose the fact that buffets are done twice or thrice at the same time, with banquet event spreads alongside the all day dining restaurant.

Partnering with the Scholars of Sustenance proved to be a step in the right direction two years ago, as its philosophy is geared towards ensuring food becomes treasure for underprivileged communities. In the year end report shared last December, 808 kg of food was rescued with more than 3,000 meals served to communities and in turn, 2,043 kg of carbon emissions were reduced. On top of that, more than 70% of food waste has lessened since the partnership began. Food science also plays a part here, thanks to the Lumitics machine, which utilizes smart tracking and data analysis in ensuring seamless food waste management.
Food waste also saw less of a footprint with the arrival of the hotel’s ORCA machine. Designed to target unconsumable (“non eatable”) food, the ORCA converts waste into water and becomes part of a 360 degree approach to leave crumbs behind.

Broken plates and glasses get a second chance at life with LINTL Studio, an art/design studio focused on art, product and spatial design. Founded by two architects, it operates between Manila and Bataan and is known for turning material waste into thoughtfully designed everyday objects and collaborative brand pieces.
In this collaboration, broken plates and glassware from Grand Hyatt Manila are carefully collected and reimagined, transformed from operational breakages into objects with renewed purpose. Rather than erasing their past, LINTL preserves subtle imperfections, allowing each piece to carry traces of its former life.
These fragments, once part of everyday service, are reborn through thoughtful design and craftsmanship. Cracks, textures, and irregularities are embraced, resulting in pieces that feel honest, tactile, and quietly expressive. What emerges is a dialogue between hospitality and design: where function meets form, and waste becomes a starting point rather than an end.
Through this partnership, Grand Hyatt Manila and LINTL Studio demonstrate how sustainability can live naturally within daily operations. It is a reminder that meaningful design does not always require new materials. Sometimes, it simply requires a new way of seeing. The dazzling backdrop of the Grand Lobby, adorned with shimmering lights and elegant décor, set the perfect scene for the final moments of the year. Festive Tree Lighting: The Magic of Seasonal Beginnings
It was a Gold, Gilded, Grand celebration as Grand Hyatt Manila ushered in the festive season at the Tree Lighting ceremony held last 11 November at the Grand Lobby. Hosted by celebrity host and content creator Janeena Chan, the festivities kicked off with performances by Manila Symphony Orchestra, Ballet Philippines and the Metrobank Chorale.
