MESSAGE FROM THE PRO SHOP

Billy Van Arsdale

Every Holiday Season you are all so very generous, your kind gifts enable us to have a better holiday season with our families. Thank you from the entire staff! Heading into the main golf season I am going to make a change in the monthly clinic. In January my plan is to have 2 Thursday afternoon clinics, the first and 3rd Thursday of each month, both clinics will start at 2:00pm. The clinic that will fall on the first Thursday each month will have short game emphasis only. The second Thursday of each month will focus solely on full swing fundamentals. Starting in February we plan to have a Thursday afternoon nine-hole league that will tee off at 3:15 This is open to any golf member Each week we will have a basic competition with a minimal entry fee After the round we will meet in the clubhouse with the results Some weeks we will play mixed groups, some weeks we will be paired with your own gender Be looking for the sign ups in the Golf Shop for the first Thursday pm league date, February 7th

SPECIAL NOTE TO OUR AFTERNOON WALKING MEMBERS! Please stop by the golf shop and pick up a sand “tube” to fill your divots with Usually there is a spot on the new style push carts for a sand tube, when it is empty just have one of the cart guys refill it for you

Kindest Regards,

Billy Van Arsdale

Rum Rum Rudolph

Step 1

Cut rosemary sprig into 2 (2") pieces. Strip leaves from bottom half of each piece. Poke 2 holes on top of maraschino cherry with a toothpick. Insert rosemary sprigs into each hole. Insert toothpick through the cherry, slightly askew from the center to avoid the pit

Step 2

Fill a Collins glass with ice, then add Coca-Cola, rum, and cherry juice Gently stir to combine, then garnish with prepared cherry

FROM THE WOMEN’S GOLF LEAGUE

Hello, 2025!

The ladies of GHWGA welcome you to the league’s wonderful golfing events scheduled in the coming months

But first, just a few comments about our end of year happenings All kid’s wishes and teacher’s requests from the Angel Tree were filled, along with a significant amount of cash.

Chef Zac served us a delicious pork luncheon after our Jingle Bell Tournament (the winning team of Amy Lamb, Christina Jamieson, Diane Olbrys, and Pat Driscoll are pictured below)

This first month of the new year will see Seagals at LPGA International on the 13th and WPC hosting at Grand Haven on the 20th. We welcome back all the ladies who travelled over the holidays, as we look forward to 4-ball matches, the Member-Member Tournament, and the Club Championship all scheduled in the upcoming months Lastly, as we “bundle up ” in our winter clothing, we look forward to those wonderful balmy days ahead!

FROM THE MEN’S GOLF LEAGUE

December was a busy month for the MGA with the annual Holiday Tournament consuming two weeks of play MGA Tournament Directors Jim Davis and Eli Smith coordinated a wonderful tournament experience and planned the teams with wonderful precision This year ’ s tournament was void of team captains But, the teams were balanced and equal as to number, handicap, and energy The teams were the “Jets" and the “Sharks”, reminiscent of the gangs in the West Side Story

Week 1 of the tournament the teams played against each in two different scramble formats within match play rules The Sharks were ahead at that point of the tournament

Week 2, two nine-hole team matches were played and despite the best efforts of the Jets to recoup some points lost the previous week, the Sharks vanquished them winning the 2024 Holiday Tournament

Following the last week of the tournament a sumptuous Turkey luncheon with all the trimmings was prepared by Chef Zach and the MGA enjoyed a Holiday meal together In special attendance at this luncheon was honorary member Jerry Chiddister who turned 96 the next day It was great having Jerry back with all of his friends in the MGA

The Holiday Tournament brings to an end the Fall Season of the MGA Beginning in January, the MGA starts the Winter/Spring Season with another ten weeks of games to challenge the membership But first, the Shootout will take place in the opening weeks of 2025 This event places the top ten scoring golfers from the previous season in a sudden death playoff on the back 9 to earn the coveted “Fickle Finger of Fate Trophy” and prize money

The MGA also had an outstanding figure for Spotlight Golfer in December Tony Blackmore joined the Club recently and has been playing weekly with the MGA ever since He has a wonderful background and his golfing is outstanding as well We encourage you to check out the MGA website to learn about Tony, as well as all the tidbits and information regarding the MGA Check us out at www ghmga com Be on the lookout for the January Spotlight Golfer, as the MGA will be featuring Billy Van Arsdale, our Club Pro

Finally, we are always looking for new members The MGA has been an institution here at Grand Haven since the beginning of the Club It is a great way to experience the fun of golf, the social experience of meeting new members, and the camaraderie of new friends If you are interested in joining us, check out the website home page for more information or speak to the Pro Shop about contacting us Until then, have a wonderful holiday season, and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year

FROM THE LADIES 9 HOLE GOLF LEAGUE

In early December, we had our Christmas tournament and luncheon The tournament was a 9-hole scramble with the winners being: first place, Gail Cosgrove, Karen Oorlog and Jody Ogata; in second place were Barb West, Margaret Bonz and Kathy Wright; with third place going to Dianne Robichaud, Melanie Mathis, Leslie Guignet and Michelle Arcaro. Judy Riley was the closest to the line.

The following week, the Coastal Niners played at Oceanside. Despite being very cool with a strong north wind, the Grand Haven gals did very well. The team with Merri Tulli and Margaret Bonz came in first on the back 9, and the teams with Sandy Malone on the front 9, and Barb West and Marcia Munsterman on the back 9, both coming in third As well, Barb West won one of two closest to the pin prizes

Congratulations to all our tournament winners!
