Camille’s background in completions and production paired with his unwavering determination to implement, improve and try new things led him to pursue his own business. In the beginning, he purged equipment with nitrogen using heavy, hard-to-handle, low-volume steel cylinders, a process he admits was tedious and cumbersome. There had to be a better, more efficient solution.
Above all, Camille wants clients to feel confident and happy doing business with NitroTech. He accomplishes this by being approachable, following up, asking how each job went, and refining and adjusting as needed. When considering changes to the company or its processes, Camille thoughtfully explores all of his options before making decisions. NitroTech’s clients are grateful to work with Camille and appreciate his integrity, consistency and dependability.
With this in mind, he developed a composite cylinder that could handle a higher volume of product. “It was a niche between the conventional steel cylinders and nitrogen pumpers. There was quite a gap,” he recalls, “Many jobs needed more than what the steel cylinders could handle, but the existing pumper was still too much for the smaller jobs.” In 2007 Camille founded NitroTech, immediately working on this new product and approaching Transport Canada for guidance about what would be most needed within his industry, without compromising safety. His measured, conscientious approach smoothed the approval and protocol testing processes, filling that significant industry gap and creating long-term success for his business. While his initial goal was to develop this and offer it to other companies, Camille confesses that it took time and patience to convince people to try his new, innovative product. “I had to bring it to the next stage, to actually use it, show them how it works and supply this service,” he explains. From there, NitroTech expanded into its main focus, nitrogen, and also into compressed natural gas, following the ebb and flow of his industry’s needs. “By fine-tuning our own process, we modified and developed different sized cylinders and pressure ratings to do a broader range of work.” Moving into the future, Camille believes in a conscious, sustainable approach to energy growth and development. “Our current sector will have to be here for a while to support the move towards going green,” he notes. “A lot of power generation actually comes from natural gas. Going forward with liquefied natural gas and being able to offer that around the world is a great thing for us as we slowly move towards greener energy helping it build the infrastructure it needs.” Within his business, Camille most enjoys interacting with and getting to know his respected clients. We get people from every level of our industry here.” Camille also says the show is important for building relationships between companies and service providers. “At the show you get to interact with the people you work with, shake hands and strengthen existing relationships. It’s not just about connecting companies to clients; it can really strengthen strategic partnerships between businesses, too.” Camille appreciates the value The Chamber of Commerce provides by hosting key events like The Peace Region Energy Show. “The Chamber has a vested interest in bringing people together and making things better for the region, offering opportunities for people to connect with and learn from each other,” he says. “They do a lot of great work and give back through their advocacy and reciprocal relationships with me and others in our community.” Through creating strong, long-lasting relationships, Camille Lagace has built a reputation for excellence in his industry and beyond.
