We take the wellbeing of our students very seriously. Stress and anxiety can negatively impact the daily activities of students, and affect their ability to perform. At Bishop Perowne, we work together to remove the barriers to success that mental health difficulties can create. We offer a range of services to support our students, from 1:1 mental health first aid sessions, to the support of student Anti-Bullying Ambassadors. Students should feel they have a place to come and share their feelings with professionals who will listen and offer help. Our staff are trained to deal with a variety of situations and where necessary can refer students to professionally qualified counsellors and the school nurse.
Because every individual is different, we know that some students may require an alternative approach to their teaching if they are to fulfil their potential. The SEND Hub is a dedicated space at Bishop Perowne which aims to improve the school experience for students with additional needs, such as those with learning difficulties, anxiety or shyness. Inside the SEND Hub, we provide a safe environment where students can learn in a relaxed and caring atmosphere, and build the confidence to help their interactions throughout the school.

It is of critical importance to us that our students and staff are equipped with the tools necessary for effective learning. We aim to provide them with the best possible facilities and equipment, from outstanding sports and performing arts areas, to classrooms with cutting edge technology.

The school has a large purpose-built sports hall and gym, while students can also build their fitness and measure their performance in the safety of the fitness room. Outside we have extensive playing fields, athletics facilities, jumping pits, an artificial cricket wicket, an outdoor basketball court and a floodlit artificial pitch for use in all weathers.
Our design technology teaching is enhanced by a host of fully-equipped facilities, including two food rooms for culinary studies, a textiles room, an electronics workshop, two resistant materials workshops, a forge, a wood preparation area, a work display area and several areas for garden design activities.
Our performing arts faculty comprises of a drama studio and dance studio with barre, music performance and recording facilities and a fullyequipped film and video workspace.
Our art department consists of two dedicated rooms. Both are equipped for 2D and 3D work in a variety of media, with computers and printers for the students to use. The department also has mono and linoprinting facilities and the use of a kiln for clay work, as well as glass fusion.

The Study Centre is a dedicated space for our students to work in a quiet environment. The Centre is open all day for students to use during break times and after school. This is particularly useful for Year 11 students preparing for exams, as well as those who may not have quiet space at home in which to complete homework and revise.
Our 220-capacity theatre is a hugely versatile space that lends itself to many uses. Its retractable seating provides a flexible space for a variety of events, from assemblies and parent/ teacher meetings to guest speaker appearances.
Computer Science students study in three modern IT suites, each containing 32 computers to ensure every student has individual access to a range of industry standard graphics, programming and productivity software. To support students when working at home we provide them with an Office 365 account, including online storage and productivity apps.
Students study science in eight modern laboratories, all of which are specifically designed for practical study. These feature a wide range of functional equipment including fume cupboards, touch screen computers and visualisers.

Broadening horizons For all the importance we place on a rich and varied curriculum, we also know the value of pursuits outside the classroom. Rather than conďŹ ne the Bishop Perowne experience to the deďŹ ned boundaries of the school day, we encourage our students to make the most of the extra opportunities we strive to provide. From afterschool sports and group activities, to trips abroad and the hosting of cultural highlights, we aim to offer a programme of activities for as wide a range of interests as possible, with the intention of fostering inclusiveness and helping our students develop into well-rounded individuals. At Bishop Perowne we are trying to change the 3pm culture; we have made the school a place that encourages students to remain after the final bell to continue pursuing their interests.
Students of all abilities can engage in a wide variety of sporting activities for fun or competitively. Our teams and individuals can also compete against other schools to develop their skills and test themselves at various levels of competition. This participation brings them into contact with students from other schools and areas, broadens their experience and builds their confidence. Our extra-curricular programme is varied and exciting. It is designed to give students the opportunity to explore a wide range of opportunities outside their regular classroom learning, as well as enabling them to develop and hone their personal talents. Our clubs include different styles of dance, music, art, cookery, design and technology, STEM and a variety of sports.

To expand the scope of our students’ learning, we invite inspirational speakers to share their interesting and relevant life experiences. These figures come from a variety of backgrounds to give our students positive examples from all walks of life, reinforcing our principles of inclusivity and dedication. We also showcase events and exhibitions in partnership with external groups. The school hosts an exhibition organised by the Anne Frank Trust UK, which tells the story of Anne Frank and explores themes of prejudice and discrimination. Open to students and the local community, the exhibition uses the historical perspective of the Holocaust to educate and empower young people to challenge discrimination in their own lives.

Bishop Perowne’s developing partnership with Worcester University will provide more exciting opportunities for all our students. The affiliation ensures they will be offered more favourable entrance packages for higher education at the university, and in the meantime allow them access to its resources. These include visits to the university campus, specialist faculty education days, and time spent working with undergraduates to develop our students’ educational experience. There are few more enjoyable and effective ways to expand the horizons of our students than a school trip. We find that exposure to different people, places and cultures really serves to bring learning to life, enriching students’ experiences and helping to create lasting memories. From skiing trips in snowy mountain resorts, to visits to European cultural and historical sites, we give our students the opportunity to sample environments and cultures different to their own, opening their eyes to a world of possibilities and helping to develop their understanding, independence and sense of responsibility. The positive effect of these trips can have life-changing results; students return to school as more rounded, worldly individuals, confident of their ability to take on new challenges.

Performing Arts When it comes to building conďŹ dence and fostering creative talent, performing arts can be a powerful tool. Bishop Perowne is recognised as a performing arts school of excellence, offering students a breadth of opportunities in a variety of disciplines. Thanks to our state-of-the-art facilities, whether their passion is in performance or technical behind-the -scenes roles, students can explore their talent in a fun and collaborative environment. Each February the school puts on a large-scale theatre production which draws on the abilities and teamwork of students from every year group. The company works together to produce the show and gains the challenging and hugely rewarding experience of planning and delivering a live performance to a paying audience.

For students with musical interest we have a number of options. Our instrumental practice rooms and orchestra offer the opportunity to practice and perform, while technically-minded students can benefit from two Creative Media suites which include a sound-proofed recording studio and music editing software. Students with a passion for dance will find themselves at home in our dance studio, featuring a fully sprung floor, full technical installation for lighting and sound, ballet barre and mirrored wall.

Sport We place great importance on the part that physical education plays in the wellbeing and development of our students. From the pursuit of excellence to the physical and social beneďŹ ts that sport can provide, we offer our students a breadth of opportunity to ensure that everyone can enjoy sport, regardless of their ability. We nurture performance, reward achievement and support participation through a wide range of curricular and extracurricular activities, all made possible by our dedicated staff and excellent facilities.
As part of a broad and balanced curriculum, students will engage in both individual activities (gym, dance and athletics) and games (rugby, basketball, hockey, netball, badminton, football, volleyball, cricket, tennis, rounders and softball). We also encourage students to pursue their sporting interests outside lessons by providing opportunities for extracurricular individual and team pursuits. For those who wish to compete, this gives them the chance to excel in their chosen area and gain recognition for their achievements.
