Abstract

This research focuses on the construe of the city and its different aspects depending on the observer.The study was organized in a experimental survey data form and was applied on a public school class of 35 students of ages varying between 12-14 years,in Kato Patissia,Athens.Each observer-student was invited to tell their story about their aspect and assumption of the city with qualitative and quantitative methods. The principle role in this play is the junior drawing (or picture), which is the master narrator of their city history. Parameters which were conducive to city assumption are presented through the experimental material. Furthermore, the personal geographical space is caught by this experimental material. So the composition of the structured notes, our reviews and annotations upon those interpretation of space creates a counterpoint between juniors’ and our city assumptions. These assumptions set issues about the build environment, city Web and the natural environment, that are interpreted mainly by perceptual and functional conditions.

Children’s city is formed through the daily action, by their landmarks and aspects of life. Daily contact with public space make a child detail and process its neighborhood. Students keep in touch with the environment and respond to it, because they live, move and observe it. In this way, student managed to decode their environment and attribute their relation through degrees of their mobility in space.

Each child’s action and mobility hides impressions, memories and impulses. This overall description refers to common and uncommon images of the city. The subject of this research interests in uncommon tints of the city, that are enhanced by the composition of multifarious intakes.
