Abstract of Special Research Topic
The research work focuses on the social phenomenon of homelessness, through a wide bibliographic review of articles, texts, personal stories. The homeless are a vulnerable social group worldwide, while in our country the number of homeless remains large, albeit innumerable. The public space, where it is mainly selected as a shelter in the city, is redefined by the tactics of institutional care and survival of the homeless, acting as a landscape of care within the city. Providing housing to combat homelessness is of particular interest to architects, and so the homeless become an active subject in architectural design. The city is presented as a place of interaction with different elements and practices, with the homeless being an integral part of the whole. Through the research work, the effort was made to understand the social phenomenon that prevails in the public space, the causes of the manifestation of the phenomena of homelessness and the places where the homeless choose to survive. Architectural practices were chosen with the homeless as the subject, in order to interpret
the approach of the phenomenon through architecture. Finally, a series of conclusions were asked to answer questions that arose during the course of the research.
