As Jesus went to Jerusalem to suffer and die for the world’s sins, he arrived in the city to shouts of “Hosanna!” Hosanna literally means “Help!” or “Save, I pray!” It was a plea to God for deliverance, used often in Psalms 113-118, and has now become for Christians a word of praise to Jesus, our Savior and our King.

By the power of God’s Word, this gracious water of life washes away sin, delivers from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe. Brothers and sisters in Christ: Our Lord commands that we teach his precious truths to all who are baptized. Christian love therefore urges all of us, especially parents and sponsors, to assist in whatever manner possible so that Harper may remain a child of God until death. If you are willing to carry out this responsibility, then answer: Yes, as God gives me strength. Yes, as God gives me strength. Let us pray: Merciful Father in heaven, we thank you for the blessing of baptism by which you offer and grant the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation. Help us to regard our baptism as the robe of righteousness we are to wear all the days of our life. Look with special favor on Harper and grant her a rich measure of your Spirit that she may grow in faith and godly living. After the announcement of the Gospel, the congregation sings:
As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.’” They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, some people standing there asked,
“What are you doing, untying that colt?” They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. APOSTLES’ CREED C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. PRAYER OF THE CHURCH M: Lord Jesus, you are the King of heaven and earth. We join the first Palm Sunday worshipers in praising and glorifying you for coming to this earth to be our Savior. Though you are one with God the Father and Lord of all, you humbled yourself and became one with us. Thanks be to you for living a life of perfect conformity to God's holy law in our place. Praise be to you for being obedient to death, even death on a cross, to redeem us from sin. Cause our voices to blend with those who sang your praises as you rode into Jerusalem. Move us to confess you before others as our Lord. Help us proclaim the message of peace and forgiveness to people of all nations. Use us to assure all people that your blood has cleansed them from sin and set them free from slavery to sin, death, and the devil. Move us to dedicate all we are and have to your glory. Lord Jesus, you are King over all the earth. Bless the nations of this world with wise rulers and good government. Let peace prevail. Divine Call Declined After much prayer and careful deliberation, Pastor David Bivens has announced his decision to decline the Call extended to him to serve as Grace’s Mission Pastor to Benson and Vail. We wish him God’s blessings as he continues his service at Christ the Lord Lutheran in Houston, Texas. We trust that God will bless our congregation as we continue the calling process and await the man the Lord of the Church has in mind to serve us. Our next call meeting is scheduled for Sunday, April 15 at 2:00 PM in the Grace-Tucson Fellowship Hall.
Divine Call Accepted Laura Heiman notified Grace on March 9 that she has accepted the Call to serve as Director of our Child Learning Center, a part of our building project in Sahuarita. This Call begins in April as a halftime position that will eventually transition to full-time. Please keep Mrs. Heiman and her family in your prayers as she begins her work.
Easter Lilies—Last Day to Sign-Up If you would like to buy an Easter lily to beautify worship on Easter Sunday (April 1), please sign the sheet located in the front entryway of church. Lilies are $9 each (make checks payable to “Grace Lutheran Church”). Please put your payment in an envelope marked “Easter Lilies” and place it in the offering plate or bring it to the church office.
Easter Breakfast The Easter breakfast at Grace-Tucson this year on April 1 will consist of egg casseroles. Members are asked to bring fruit or baked goods to share. LWMS Spring Rally—Registration Due Today The 2018 Spring Rally for our Circuit of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society (LWMS) is scheduled for April 14 at Church of the Open Bible, Whiteriver, AZ. The theme is “We are Christ’s Ambassadors!” Pastor Ben Foxen and his wife Becki will speak about mission work in Russia and their outreach efforts in Peoria, AZ at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church. The freewill offering taken at the rally will go to support East Fork High School and Our Savior Lutheran School in Peridot, AZ. Registration fees ($10), forms, and Mission Money offerings are due TODAY, March 25. You can pick up a registration form in the Fellowship Hall or find one at www.GrandCanyonLWMS.org. Changes in Staffing Boz Lomasney has stepped down as Elder of Member Ministry and Jason Watson has been appointed in his place as Boz will be taking on a new role as the Groundskeeper for Grace-Tucson. We are also blessed to have Kerrie Ann Lomasney as our new indoor Custodian for Grace-Tucson.
Apache Clothing & Fabrics Drive Donations are now being collected for our fellow believers living on the Apache reservation. These items will be delivered in spring and summer. Donated items should be clean and unstained. Bedding, clothing (especially infant and children’s sizes), and fabric and sewing material (used to make clothing and quilts) is appreciated. Golf Outing You are invited to participate in a golf outing sponsored by Friends of Redeemer supporting the Redeemer Student Tuition Fund. The shotgun start begins at 8:00 AM on Saturday, May 5 at Crooked Tree Golf Course. Cost is $65 per golfer or $240 for a foursome and includes 18 holes of golf, use of a cart, and lunch. Forms and payment are due by April 25. You can find registration forms hanging on the bulletin board in the fellowship hall. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. Great Exchange at Redeemer Redeemer’s next Great Exchange will be held April 16-18. This free event is open to all WELS church and school families and friends. All items are donated and are free for the taking. Snacks will be available to eat while you “shop.” Hours are 7:00 AM-6:00 PM Monday and Tuesday and 7:00 AM-1:30 PM on Wednesday. Donated items can be dropped off in the afternoon on April 15 or at any time during the Great Exchange. All items left at the end of the exchange are donated to a local charity.
ACSTO and Tuition Tax Credit The Arizona Christian School Tuition Organization (ACSTO) exists to provide tuition scholarships to students at Christian schools by receiving tax credit donations. ACSTO works closely with our WELS schools in Arizona, including Redeemer Lutheran School here in Tucson and our area Lutheran high school, Arizona Lutheran Academy (ALA) in Phoenix. Currently, 13 members of Grace attend Redeemer Lutheran School, and 4 members attend ALA. The support of ACSTO, which allows many families to afford the Lutheran education that they want for their children, is made possible by Arizona residents who make donations. In fact, specific children may even be recommended to receive a scholarship from your donation. Arizona law also allows you to receive the full amount, up to certain limits, as a tax credit on your state income taxes. This means that you can direct money that you would otherwise pay to the state to support a cause that interests you. You can donate to Lutheran education without spending any extra money. ACSTO has an excellent video explaining the tax credit law in Arizona, and you can view that video on their website at www.ACSTO.org. Donations made before April 15 can still be applied to your 2017 taxes. Please keep in mind this opportunity and make use of it as you are able! If you have questions about this program, please ask.
