Grow in Grace A CHRISTIAN TREASURES THE WORD AND SACRAMENTS As we considered the Third Commandment regarding worship, we noted the importance of gathering to have God speak to us in his Word and having the opportunity to express our thanks and praise to God together. A Christian treasures other opportunities to study God’s Word. The following passages encourage this. Psalm 119:103-105 “How sweet are your sayings to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! From your precepts I gain understanding. Therefore, I hate every false road. Your words are a lamp for my feet and a light for my path.” Revelation 1:3 “Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy and blessed are those who hear it and hold on to the things written in it, because the time is near.” Romans 15:4 “Indeed, whatever was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that, through patient endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures, we would have hope.” 2 Timothy 3:14-17 “As for you, continue in the things you have learned and about which you have become convinced. You know from whom you learned them and that from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, well equipped for every good work.” Acts 17:11 “Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians. They received the word very eagerly and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these things were so.” What do you think are the benefits of reading the Bible on your own?
