Improving access to quality health care and services while providing compassionate care for the whole person continues to be a pillar of success for Grace Health. As we further this goal, we strive to build a healthcare team focused on treating the whole person. Grace Health believes one key to this goal is access to oral health, an essential component to promoting and maintaining overall well-being. However, access to dental care is a critical problem in America with low-income populations of all ages experiencing the lowest access to oral health care. To help eliminate oral health disparities, Grace Health is thrilled to announce we have hired Kayla Fields, DMD as our new dental director. We feel blessed to have such a compassionate provider join
us to help fulfill those needed dental health services. Dr. Fields came on board this past quarter and we believe she will be a huge asset to our local communities. I encourage you to read Dr. Fields' introduction on page 3 and then turn to page 13 for the inspiring story of how she is carrying out her spiritual calling while serving the needs of southeastern Kentuckians. In addition to Dr. Fields, Grace Health was blessed to add thirty-one new faces to our team this quarter (pages 3-5). As Grace Health grows, so does our ability to provide high-quality, primary health care. I am happy to announce that in 2021, Grace Health served almost 32,000 patients with 300+ community-based staff members. As our community grows, we are dedicated to growing in stride with them. In February, I had the honor of traveling to Frankfort to provide supportive testimony for House Bill 525, the Community Health Worker Bill. This bill aims to provide financing and certification routes for community health workers (page 9). Our community health workers reach thousands of people every year (pages 6-7) and continually strive to improve services and access to quality health care for our local communities. Our outreach team, led by Michael Wynn, Director of Community Programs, is a huge part of what allows Grace Health to improve the lives of those in and around our communities. I want to encourage you to read this quarter's newsletter to see some of the excellent things we have been doing here at Grace Health. Thank you all for a great first quarter in 2022! Human Resources New Provider Hires Kayla Fields, DMD We would like to welcome Dr. Kayla Fields to our team! Dr. Fields graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology Pre-Medical Sciences. She went on to attend the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in Lexington, KY, where she earned her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree in 2011. For recognition of her leadership skills in expanding primary health care access, she was awarded the Logan Beasley Leadership Excellence Award in 2021. Most recently, Dr. Fields worked as a dental director in Williamsburg. We are excited to have Dr. Fields join our Grace Health team, allowing us to provide better access of care to all patients.
Chasity Mills, APRN The Manchester Clinic is happy to announce that Chasity Mills recently joined our team as a nurse practitioner. Chasity received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Chamberlain College of Nursing in 2013. Shortly after getting her bachelor's in nursing, she joined Grace Health as a clinical nurse with our school-based health team. In 2020, she completed her Master's of Science in Nursing Degree from the University of the Cumberlands. We are happy to welcome Chasity back to the Grace Health team.

Human Resources New Hires cont Hazelee Vice, PharmD Hazelee Vice recently joined our team as a pharmacist and will be working at the Mountain View Pharmacy. A graduate of North Laurel High School, Hazelee received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Science from Georgetown College in 2009. She earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree in 2014 from McWhorter School of Pharmacy, Samford University in Alabama. In addition to her pharmacist license, Hazelee also holds a Naloxone and APhA Immunization Certification. Shortly after graduating from McWhorter School of Pharmacy, she returned to Kentucky to work as a pharmacist in Manchester. Beginning in March 2016, Hazelee made her way back to Laurel County, working in London as a clinical pharmacist. From leading preschool life groups to being an AWANA teacher, Hazelee has volunteered in various children's church ministries since receiving her undergraduate degree in 2009. Since 2016, Hazelee has worked with the Children's Committee and as a nursery volunteer with First Baptist Church. We are very proud to have such a dedicated and experienced medical professional as a part of our team.
Denise Cruz We are excited to announce that there is a new face in the Human Resources Department. Join us as we welcome Denise Cruz, HR Assistant! Denise recently moved back to Kentucky with her daughter, Isabella. She enjoys outdoor activities and carpentry work. In addition to Isabella, she has four other children and three grandchildren who remain in North Carolina. We are happy to have Denise as a member of the Grace Health team!

On March 15th, 2021, the Grace Health Patient Support Call Center extended their hours to 8a-8p. We did this with the hope of having a Grace Health representative field the call and answer questions related to the caller's healthcare needs. On July 1, 2021, we added triage nurses to further increase quick access to healthcare questions. In addition to the weekly hours of 8a-8p, we have a representative available on Saturdays from 8a4:30p.
Further, our patients continue to have access to the Patient Portal, which they can access from the Grace Health website. After clicking "LOGIN to Patient Portal" in the top right corner of the site, they can log in with their existing username and password or create an account if they haven't yet. For access to the help portal and a list of frequently asked questions, click "Online Patient Portal Help" at the bottom of the login page.

Medical Campus Construction Update As reported in 2021, Grace Health is renovating and transforming an existing 88,000-square-foot former KMart building into a state-of-the-art medical campus in rural southeastern Kentucky.
Before
This center will respond to unmet medical, dental, mental health, and substance use treatment needs in Knox and Whitley Counties. It will allow for the expansion of services and support an integrated whole-person model of care for the large number of medically underserved rural residents. Once the project is complete, it will allow for significant growth in patients, visits, and full-time employees. Four smaller satellite sites will be consolidated into the larger facility, moving the available space from 46,000 square feet and 53 exam rooms to 88,000 square feet with 85 exam rooms and 11 dental operatories. We are excited to announce that construction is going smoothly and we expect the center to be complete in the early summer of 2023.

Outreach 50th District Basketball Tournament Grace Health was happy to once again help sponsor the 50th District Basketball Tournament, held at Corbin High School February 22-25. Teams from South Laurel, Corbin, Whitley County, and Williamsburg, the four 50th district schools, played six games during the course of the tournament with South Laurel boys and girls bringing home the 50th District Championship trophies. Grace Health's outreach team used the games to connect with the public, hoping to make high-quality health care access available for everyone. As part of this effort, the outreach team gave out free items at the booth for the fans. This interaction allowed the outreach team to also give out information to individuals about who Grace Health is and share the values and mission of Grace Health. We’re proud to be the sponsor of this amazing event and a great day of area basketball games!

Outreach 13th Region Basketball Tournament The 13th Regional Basketball Tournament is an annual event that Grace Health utilizes as an opportunity to connect with our communities. Grace Health serves as a sponsor for this weeklong event to reach out to individuals in our communities regarding the access to highquality health care that we provide. Many of our employees once again had the opportunity to attend the games to represent Grace Health. Consisting of 14 games between 13th region boys and girls teams, the 2022 tournament took place March 2-7 in the Corbin Arena. Along with giving away shirts, Apple AirPods, a Nintendo Switch, and other items, Grace Health personally talked with hundreds of individuals throughout the tournament. In girls' basketball action, Corbin and South Laurel went into overtime in the championship game on Saturday, March 5. Tied at 41 with only seconds to play, Corbin sank a layup, punching their ticket to Rupp Arena for the first time since 2016. Corbin traveled to Lexington to face George Rogers Clark (GRC) in the first round of the KHSAA Tournament on Thursday, March 10. Corbin fought hard but came up short against GRC with a final score of 42-35. North Laurel (NL) faced Knox Central in the boys' championship game on Monday, March 7. With a score of 69 to 56, North Laurel earned their spot in the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen at Rupp Arena on March 16. At Rupp Arena, Pikeville took the win with a final score of 59-51. Grace Health was thankful to once again be a sponsor of the 13th Region Tournament. We enjoyed the opportunity to interact with our members of our communities and share information about the access to healthcare provided by Grace Health.

Outreach Cont. 13th Region Tournament Giveaway Winners As part of our outreach at the 13th Region Tournament, we gave out free items at our booth for fans. The fans had a chance to win one of four big prizes, including two $250 gift cards and wireless headphones. Most importantly, the outreach team shared their joy in practicing our mission out loud by showing compassionate love and sharing the truth of Jesus Christ to southeastern Kentucky.

Community Health Worker Bill House Bill 525 Passes Kentucky House
Grace Health's Eligibility Assistance Workers (Outreach Team) are essential to providing better access to care for our communities. Like Community Health Workers (CHWs), they work tirelessly within the community to help patients overcome barriers to care, like socioeconomic status or health literacy. They are vital in helping our patients find supportive services to achieve and maintain good health and well-being. Our Outreach Team is key in making access to high-quality health care easy. We are thankful for all the team does within the healthcare system to improve access to care and are proud to support Kentucky House Bill 525 (HB525), HB525, also known as the Community Health Worker (CHW) Bill, was introduced by Rep. Kimberly Moser in February during the 2022 Kentucky Legislative Regular Session. HB525 aims to require Medicaid reimbursement for certain services provided by certified community health workers (CCHWs). It will also establish CHW certification and direct Kentucky Children's Health Insurance Program (KCHIP) to reimburse certain services provided by CCHWs. Rep. Kimberly Moser, chair of the Kentucky House Health and Welfare Committee, shared that she filed HB525 to pave the way to address Kentucky’s health care worker shortage and increase access to care. On February 24, members of the Grace Health team, including CEO Michael Stanley, traveled to Frankfort to provide supportive voices for the bill. During a legislative breakfast, Mr. Stanley joined other Kentucky Primary Care Association (KPCA) members for healthy conversations about expanding access and improving health outcomes for Kentuckians. We are happy to announce that HB525 passed the House unanimously with a vote of 94-4 on March 1. On March 16, after only a week in the Health & Welfare Committee, the committee reported favorably on the bill, which placed it on the calendar for the following day. After a second reading, we are happy to report that the bill is continued successfully through the Senate and has been sent to the governor for signature. We invite you to pray with us that a favorable vote will be announced soon and the bill will be signed into law by the governor.

Healthy Heart Month Wear Red Day 2022 National Wear Red Day is celebrated each year on the first Friday in February. This day is set aside to bring greater awareness to heart disease, the leading cause of death for Americans. We encourage Grace Health patients and employees alike to protect themselves against heart disease by moving more, managing stress, eating healthier, and getting quality sleep. On Wear Red Day, our Grace Health teams wore red to spread the word that when we take time daily to be hearthealthy, those small actions help protect our hearts. While Healthy Heart Month might be over, there is never a bad time to take care of yourself. Research has shown the undeniable benefits of regular physical activity in protecting heart health. Clinic Highlights We are blessed with providers and staff who work tirelessly to improve access to healthcare for our communities. While our healthcare teams focus on each patient, it is a joy to focus on their efforts to brighten the workday for each other and their patients. In March, several of our clinic teams took the chance to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with some festive apparel and yummy treats in their offices. with Dr. Kayla Fields At Grace Health, we strive every day to live out our mission to share the love of Jesus Christ with southeastern Kentucky. In this edition, we invite you to sit down with Dr. Fields as she shares her journey to faith-centered, compassionate health care and how she is fulfilling her calling from God. As a young married woman, Dr. Fields and her husband were quite involved with worship music, both in the church and as traveling worship leaders. In sharing the love of Christ through music, they felt they were fulfilling what God had called them to do. However, Kayla began dental school during this time. With its many demands of endless studying and long hours in the lab, Kayla felt pulled away from continued traveling and leading others in song. Throughout dental school, Kayla pondered in her heart if becoming a dentist was the right decision. She and her husband felt a calling in their lives to share the truth of Jesus, which dental school made hard to follow. Despite the doubts, Dr. Fields was determined to follow the path she trusted God had laid for her. With the knowledge that God held her secure, she remained steady through graduation, starting her dental career, and bringing three beautiful kids into the world. Grace Health became an integral part of her story when she signed with the organization in February 2022. When she joined the Grace Health team, Dr. Fields could clearly see that Jesus Christ was not only in their mission but also their foundation. When introduced to her work area, the Hyden Clinic in Leslie County, Kayla was confident that God had used her experience, knowledge, and education to serve a special community she was born and raised in. Leslie County, an area filled with toddlers, seniors, and all those between, has been without local dental options. Through her work with Grace Health, Dr. Fields will be able to provide compassionate, comprehensive dental care and meet the need of an underserved population. Kayla gives God all the glory for guiding her path to Grace Health and the Hyden Clinic. Feeling great purpose in her profession, Kayla's past doubts have been replaced with great joy and peace as she continues to walk in God's calling on her life.

Additionally, 24 people are on-trend to reach the one-year award for June 2022. Fourteen people were honored for having 6 months with no occurrences while an additional 27 people celebrated 3 months with zero occurrences. We recognize that getting out the door to work is sometimes the hardest part of the day. However, these employees overcame all obstacles to serve our patients. Grace Health appreciates their dedication, loyalty, and perseverance. We believe that Grace Health has the best of the best employees and we are so thankful for each of you!
