WELCOME TO THE MOORINGS
“The Moorings” was completed in 1910 for Russell A Alger Jr. by renowned New York architect Charles A. Platt. Replacing an 1862 “ summer cottage,” the new Italian Renaissance-style villa was hailed as an architectural masterpiece and was among the first Grosse Pointe estates designed for year-round living
The Alger family resided there until Russell's passing in January 1930. From 1937 to 1949, the home served as a branch of the Detroit Institute of Arts. In March 1949, Marion Alger deeded the property to The Grosse Pointe War Memorial Association, dedicating it to the service and enrichment of the community.

HISTORIC LAWN AND GARDENS
Per fectly situated overlooking Lake St . Clair, our historic lawn and gardens are the centerpiece of T he Moorings. T he lawn is an ideal setting for ceremonies or an alfresco cocktail hour. Our lawn is equipped with power and we provide classic white folding chairs for up to 400 guests.

BALLROOM AND BALCONY
W ith it’s floor to ceiling windows, hardwood floors, and cr ystal chandeliers, the contemporar y main ballroom beautifully accommodates up to 250 guests for dinner and enter tainment . Our additional adjoining ballroom is included for all weddings and can accommodate an additional 200 guests, or be used for after- dinner fun. Special features include the balcony with outdoor furniture, band/DJ specific power, ambient lighting, automatic shades, and allseason temperature control .

ALGER HOUSE
The Historic Alger House is available for intimate weddings of up to 70 guests or as an extension to cocktail hour. Within the space lie three enchanting, seamlessly connected rooms, the Reception Room, Dining Room, and Library; each adorned with hand-carved moldings, intricate ceiling artwork, grand stone fireplaces, and elegant French doors that open to the sweeping back lawn overlooking Lake St. Clair.

Stackpole Suite

The Stackpole Suite is designed to get ready in before your wedding. The large windows welcome in the ideal natural light needed for taking getting ready photos - and are great for peeking through as guests arrive for the ceremony.
The suite includes a hair and make-up bar, sitting area with a plush couch and chairs, clothing rack, large floor mirror, and an adjacent restroom Our suite menu offers an assortment of breakfast lunch, snack, and beverage options.
Access to the Stackpole Suite is included with all ceremony bookings For reception-only weddings, it may be added for an additional $1,000.

Billiards Suite

Rich in character and histor y, our Billiards Suite is adorned with wood impor ted from 17th centur y British pubs and thoughtfully curated war memorabilia. T his distinctive space offers a warm, refined atmosphere ideal for the bridal par ty to relax and prepare for the celebration ahead

What is the deposit?
A $6,000 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your date. Of the initial deposit , $4,500 is a reser vation fee and $1,500 is a security deposit . T he $4,500 reser vation fee will be applied as your first payment .
IS THE DEPOSIT REFUNDABLE?
All cancellations or requests to change the date of an event must be submitted in writing Date change requests shall be considered based on availability, within the same fiscal year. Date change requests to a different fiscal year or event cancellations will result in for feiture of all amounts previously paid including but not limited to non- refundable deposits.
Is the food and beverage minimum inclusive of tax and service charge?
T he food and beverage minimum is the minimum amount that must be spent before ser vice charge and tax is applied Any shor tcoming regarding the food and beverage minimum amount will be charged as a fee.
is there a room rental?
T he room rental for your reception space is included in your per person package T here is a separate ceremony rental fee to have your ceremony on-site.
What is the payment schedule?
A second payment of 50% of the guaranteed food and beverage minimum is due six (6) months prior to the Event . A third payment of 25% of the guaranteed food and beverage minimum is due three (3) months prior to the Event . T he total remaining balance is due seven (7) business days prior to the Event .
