Message from Daviess County Assessor Dear Taxpayers of Daviess County: The coronavirus has impacted us all and with the regulations that are in place, it has had a tremendous effect on the assessment process. We were working with two people in the office and are now only able to work with one. We are trying to serve the citizens of Daviess County to the best of our ability and still be fair and equitable to everyone. Since taking office in 2017, I have strived to be transparent with you, the taxpayers, and will continue to do so. That is the reason for this note. I have put in place a temporary practice in order to try and get our job done for this 2020 assessment cycle. The health and safety of you, the taxpayers and my staff are of utmost importance to me. We have been told that social distancing is the primary method for stopping the spread of the virus, so the best temporary practice that I can think of to implement during this pandemic is the following: 1. We are assessing personal property over the phone, so if you did not get your 2020 assessment sheet returned or if you need assessed for another year, please call our office and we will assess you over the phone. 2020 assessment sheets were due by March 1. You will have until April 30, 2020 to send your sheet in or call the office and get assessed before a penalty must be applied. 2. Regarding new construction, if you reported the size, we will be doing a drive-by to get a photo and will follow up in the future to get the remaining photos needed and verify information. If you did not report the size, we will be communicating via telephone or letter to get the measurements. We will not be doing any face-to-face communicating until this order has been lifted. If you call the office and do not get an answer, please keep trying, as there is only one person working in the office and they are getting phone calls for all the other offices, as well as our own, so they may be tied up on another line. Container gardening tips Gardening is beneficial in various ways.
