Dear GPB Donor, As you may have noticed, this month’s guide has a new name – GPB Next. Part of our commitment to serving you is listening to the feedback you provide about your donor experience. When we launched in July 2020 as GPB Encore, it was in response to what you’ve told us about your desire for more GPB programming information. I want to thank our publishing partner Encore Atlanta for helping us first launch last year under its brand. It was an ambitious effort during a pandemic, but one that we feel was crucial to help us stay connected in a time when we were not able to enjoy face-to-face interactions with you as our supporters. As our arts and entertainment community returns to regular activities this year, Encore Atlanta will focus on its core mission as the performing arts magazine and program in Atlanta, providing news, stories, and event information, while GPB will conduct all publishing operations for GPB Next. It is with a sense of hope and excitement that we’ve chosen the name GPB Next, as it represents our pledge to move forward from a trying year and challenge ourselves as an organization to consistently produce innovative content and resources across all our platforms. Be sure to check out our television highlights for information about the new season of MASTERPIECE: Unforgotten and the multi-part series The Latino Experience, as well as other programs. You can also read more about a new voice joining NPR’s Morning Edition in the GPB Radio section, and we’re very excited to share the news of our partnership with Google Arts & Culture, which utilizes digital content produced by GPB Education. A CAPITOL FOURTH AMERICA’S NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

PREMIERES SUN JULY 4, 8 PM ENCORES 9:30 PM

elebrate our country’s 245th birthday with a star-studded musical spectacular! The 41st edition of America’s Independence Day celebration returns with hosts two-time Emmy Award-nominated actor John Stamos and multi-platinum recording artist and star of television, film and the Broadway stage, Vanessa Williams. The show has become a national tradition with its dazzling fireworks display over the iconic Washington D. C. skyline. Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the traditional live concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol will not take place. The special presentation will however be hosted live from Washington D.C., featuring all-new pre-taped performances by top stars from pop, country, R & B, classical and Broadway, including Georgia’s own Gladys Knight, Alan Jackson and Jennifer Nettles. Live coverage of the fireworks during the broadcast will be captured by multiple cameras stationed around the city.

UNG graduate Anita Renfroe, of Stone Mountain, won a Fulbright award that took her to Malaysia in 2017. A member of UNG’s Corps of Cadets, Renfroe earned a degree in Arabic language and literature and numerous highly competitive scholarships, including the opportunity to study for a year in Morocco.
