Welcome to our 31st annual production sale!

In 1967 my Grandfather, James Bogle, gave me a commercial black cow for my 5th birthday and since that day the passion to breed and raise beef cattle has been the driving force of Pleasant Hill Farms. In 1972 with the purchase of a registered Angus heifer, sired by Clank of Wye, the seed stock business began and I started selling bulls to commercial cattlemen in 1976 one bull at a time. Thirty one years ago, in 1995, we began to have an annual bull sale. After experimenting with Simmental cattle, thru AI, during the late 70s & 80s we decided to add Simmental to our seed stock operation in 2006. Daily, I think about what would Grand Dad have to say about all of this! But, most importantly, I am forever grateful for the time spent with him and all that he taught me. In 2026 I can only imagine what he would think about the current beef cattle business! What an incredible time to be part of such a vivacious industry that continues to gain momentum!

Passion is the driving force behind what we do. Our passion for beef cattle, agriculture and customer service are the three reasons we continue to do what we do, breed excellent beef cattle and anticipate the future! Our three goals driven by our passion are simple: To breed and raise the highest quality beef cattle possible, To provide the very best customer service and To keep the family farm going and growing.

Without question this is the very best set of cattle that we have ever offered! We are offering a tremendous set of Angus and Simmental bulls, a phenomenal set of Angus and Simmental pairs, and an excellent set of commercial open heifers!

The Bulls: Our genetics continue to take massive strides in profit building characteristics. Traits like fertility, desirable calving ease, soundness, structural integrity, foot quality, fleshing ability, longevity, advantageous carcass traits and pounds of production are areas of consistent focus. The Angus, SimAngus and Simmental genetics offered here are second to none! We have grown these bulls on a high roughage forge based ration. All of the bulls have DNA data, ultrasound data, and are weighed, measured, and semen tested. All of the bulls offered for sale will be guaranteed breeders. Every bull will qualify for the Phase One Tobacco money for both Kentucky and Tennessee and we will furnish the paperwork necessary to obtain those funds.

This is an exceptional set of Angus and Simmental females. Every cow has either put a bull in our bull sale, a heifer in our replacement herd or both. The calves on these cows are sired by breed leading sires. The Angus cows are genetically progressive and their calves even more so. On the Simmental side of the females being offered, the Patriot and Anthem calves on the side of these cows are breed leading genetics that have so much to offer. Make sure and pay close attention to the udder quality and progressive genetic value in these Simmental cows and calves!

We would like to extend a great deal of gratitude to Pleasant Hill Farms customers that continue to work closely with us for breeding decisions and marketing opportunities. A huge shout out to Dogwood Hills Angus, RAW Cattle Company, BB Simmental, Dixie Land and Cattle and Green Family Farm. These are all excellent customers of Pleasant Hill Farms and it is a privilege to work with them. We greatly appreciate each one of them and how they continue to utilize our cattle in their breeding programs. Each of these progressive beef cattle breeders has a name synonymous with integrity, quality and value.

It takes an incredible TEAM to make it all work in Rockfield, KY! Thank you to my entire family, Mary, Corbin, Caroline, Catherine and Grandy. To say that I am proud of our progeny, is an understatement! Mary and I are so blessed with our three and they continue to put PHF at the top of their priorities. I am extremely proud of Corbin’s devotion to the agricultural industry and especially appreciative of all that he does for our family operation. He is a tremendous asset of beef cattle knowledge and is more than willing to help you with your selections offered in this production sale.

Easton Scott, Morne’ Myburgh and Dwain Didloff joined Pleasant Hill Farms in the summer and fall of 2025 and have made an immediate impact in such an overwhelmingly positive way! Their commitment to always doing the right thing and constantly making improvements is impressive. We are extremely appreciative of their daily contributions to the operation.

Thank you for your interest in our Angus, SimAngus and Simmental breeding programs. We are committed to providing the highest quality of beef cattle seed stock that will have the greatest value to our customers. Looking forward to seeing you on February 28th, 2026!

We guarantee that all breeding cattle sold by Pleasant Hill Farms are fertile to the best of our knowledge. Each bull has passed a Breeding Soundness Evaluation. In the event of a problem, the buyer is responsible to return the bull to Pleasant Hill Farms. If the bull does not respond as a satisfactory breeder, the buyer will have the option of a satisfactory replacement (if available), or the issue of a credit equal to the bull’s purchase price minus the salvage value received for that bull. All credit is good for one year from the sale date. We simply ask that you contact us concerning any issues.

This is not a life insurance policy. We will not guarantee bulls that are run in multiple sire groups. We will not replace a dead animal if it is killed or dies for any reason. We expect normal care to be exercised toward these animals and that particularly the yearling bulls not be allowed to get too thin.

This guarantee is in addition to the Suggested Sale Terms and Conditions of the American Angus Association and the American Simmental Association, which also apply.

Bid ONLINE

Buyers unable to attend the sale may bid online with CCI or DVAuctions or may send their bids to the Field Representatives or Ringmen, the Auctioneer, Pleasant Hill Farms or any of the folks associated with the sale. Bids will be handled with the strictest of confidentiality.

Semen INTEREST IN THE BULLS

Every bull selling will be owned 100% by its new owner(s) unless documented in the footnotes or announced on sale day.

Sale day announcements and information updates on sale day will take precedent.

Hello everyone,

I want to start with a sincere thanks to each of you for your time, evaluation, and consideration of our program. Top to bottom, I am confident in saying this is as high quality and progressive of a set of cattle as we have ever marketed. The bulls have been developed in a manner where they will be ready to go to work for you, the females are from the heart of the herd and mated as if they were staying here, and the commercial heifers represent years of PHF genetics successfully working for the Green family’s operation. It has been extremely enjoyable watching this set of cattle progress; I hope you all find as much excitement in this set as we do.

None of this is possible without an army of people behind the scenes all pressing towards the same goal. Thank you to my entire family for their love and support while also challenging me to continue to improve as a son, grandson, brother, and cattleman.

Dad had the vision, Mom joined him lock step along the way, and my sisters and I are blessed to continue helping turn the vision into reality.

Our goal is that with every 365 days that pass, we are ahead of where we were the year prior: the cattle continue to get better, our relationships with each of you grow stronger, and we continue to make a positive contribution to the beef cattle business.

We are here to provide you with superior cattle and even better customer service. Please reach out to Dad or myself with any questions, and we hope to see you on February 28th in Rockfield, KY.

All the best, Corbin Cowles

words FROM THE NUTRITIONIST

Overview

Welcome to the Pleasant Hill Early March Madness Bull and Heifer Sale. I think you will agree that the Pleasant Hill crew has put together a powerful set of cattle for your consideration. As the consulting nutritionist for Pleasant Hill and Performance Feeds, I strive to develop optimal nutrition and management programs to match and express the genetic potential of the cattle while giving special attention to safeguarding soundness and reproductive longevity.

Nutritional Philosophy

The nutritional treatment of breeding stock from conception to breeding can have a profound effect on their lifetime potential. Nutritional influences on future health and productivity have been traced as far back as early embryonic development; a concept termed “fetal programming”. That is why we focus not only on the nutrient requirements of the cow throughout her life cycle but also the nutritional factors that affect gene expression of economically important traits in the developing calf. From conception to turnout, we focus on expressing the genetic potential of the cattle without compromising structural soundness and breeding performance.

Bull and Heifer Development

Pleasant Hill bulls and heifers have been developed in a large-paddock environment to provide abundant exercise to promote structural soundness and athleticism. Nutritionally, they were developed on high-roughage rations with particular attention given to optimal protein, energy, vitamin and trace mineral supplementation to ensure proper reproductive development and structural longevity. We think that you will agree that our nutritional and management philosophies have produced an exceptional set of bulls and heifers that are ready to go to work for you. Buy with confidence!

EXPECTED PROGENY DIFFERENCE (EPD), is the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus. Interim EPDs may appear on young animals when their performance has yet to be incorporated into the American Angus Association National Cattle Evaluation (NCE) procedures. This EPD will be preceded by an “I”, and may or may not include the animal’s own performance record for a particular trait, depending on its availability, appropriate contemporary grouping, or data edits needed for NCE.

PRODUCTION

CALVING EASE DIRECT (CED), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.

BIRTH WEIGHT (BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

WEANING WEIGHT (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

YEARLING WEIGHT (YW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

CARCASS

MARBLING (MARB), is expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

RIBEYE AREA (RE), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

FAT THICKNESS (FAT), expressed in inches, is a predictor of the differences in external fat thickness at the 12th rib (as measured between the 12th and 13th ribs) of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

MATERNAL

MATERNAL MILK (MILK), is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability.

COW ENERGY VALUE ($EN), expressed in dollars savings per cow er year, assesses differences in cow energy requirements as an expected dollar savings difference in daughters of sires. A larger value is more favorable when comparing two animals. Components for computing $EN savings difference include lactation energy requirements and energy costs associated with differences in mature cow size.

$VALUE INDEXES

$Value Indexes, reported in dollars per head, are multi-trait selection indexes where a higher value suggests more profit. The $Value is an estimate of how future progeny of each sire are expected to perform, on average, compared to progeny of other sires if sires were randomly mated to cows and if calves were exposed to the same environment.

MATERNAL WEANED CALF VALUE ($M), an index expressed in dollars per head, predicts profitability differences in progeny due to genetics from conception to weaning. $M is built off of a self-replacing herd model where commercial cattlemen replace 25% of their breeding females in the first generation and 20% in subsequent generations. Remaining cull females and all male progeny are sold as feeder calves. Increased selection pressure on $M aims to decrease overall mature cow size and improve foot structure and fertility while maintaining weaning weights consistent with today’s production.

WEANED CALF VALUE ($W), an index expressed in dollars per head, provides the expected difference in future progeny preweaning performance from birth to weaning. $W assumes that producers retain 20% of their female progeny for replacements and sell the rest of their cull female and male progeny as feeder calves. Over time, increased selection pressure on $W will increase weaning and maternal milk traits while also continuing to increase mature cow size.

FEEDLOT VALUE ($F), an index expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for post-weaning merit compared to progeny of other sires. The underlying objective assumes commercial producers will retain ownership of cattle through the feedlot phase and sell fed cattle on a carcass weight basis with no considerations of premiums or discounts for quality and yield grade.

GRID VALUE ($G), an index expressed in dollars per carcass, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for carcass grid merit, including quality and yield grade attributes, compared to progeny of other sires.

BEEF VALUE ($B), an index expressed in dollars per carcass, facilitates simultaneous multi-trait genetic selection for feedlot and carcass merit. $B represents the expected average differences in the progeny postweaning performance and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires. This index assumes commercial producers wean all male and female progeny, retain ownership of these animals through the feedlot phase and market these animals on a quality-based carcass grid.

COMBINED VALUE ($C), an index expressed in dollars per head, includes all traits that make up both $M and $B with the objective that commercial producers will replace 20% of their breeding females per year with replacement heifers retained within their own herd. The remaining cull heifer and steer progeny are then assumed to be sent to the feedlot where the producers retain ownership of those cattle and eventually sell them on a qualitybased carcass merit grid.
