Heritage Open Days is a national celebration of the history, architecture and culture of our local towns and cities. In Southampton we’re opening the doors to some of the city’s most celebrated heritage sites, and the best part is it’s all free for you to enjoy!
How to use this map
Heritage Open Days is across two weekends and the opening times of the different sites may vary across these weeks. For details on opening times please see the key below. Buildings in grey are sites of historic interest but are now remains of buildings or sites, not of all which are still visible, but might give you a sense of what the medieval town once looked like.

What Else is on in the City?
September is a busy month in Southampton, with large-scale events and festivals including love the Old Town, Music in the City, the International Boat Show and Southampton FC at St Mary’s Stadium.

Music in the City
13th - 14th September
Music in the City is free city-wide celebration of music, community and culture across Southampton. This year Music in the City on Saturday 13th - Sunday 14th September, coinciding with Heritage Open Days. Over these two days you’ll find bands, DJ’s and poets in lots of local bars, pubs, cafes, shops…even in vaults, museums and galleries around the city.
This free festival is family-friendly and open to all, but you might find that some venues get very busy. To find out more about Music in the City head to their website by scanning the QR code here:

Travelling Around Southampton
