Acoalition of community organisations, led by the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO), has launched a local-tonational campaign to document rising anti-Indian sentiments and hate incidents in the United States. The effort aims to provide residents with a simple way to report harassment or hate crimes and to mobilise community resources to keep neighbourhoods safe.

The campaign invites anyone who has witnessed or experienced antiIndian harassment or hate crimes to report the incident through a dedicated online portal or by phone. Organisers say that accurate reporting helps authorities, policymakers, and community groups understand the scope of the problem and respond more effectively.

New York, NY | December 20, 2025: The Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) hosted its December 2025 webinar, “Coping with Technological Changes and Challenges,” on December 13, 2025. Held virtually, the webinar brought together distinguished speakers from diplomacy, academia, industry, and technology to examine emerging technologies and their far-reaching implications for society,
development planning, and the global workforce.
The webinar focused on both the challenges and opportunities posed by rapid technological transformation. Former Indian Ambassador T. P. Sreenivasan delivered the keynote address, and the panel featured Professor D. Yogi Goswami, Mr Piyush Malik, Dr Latha Christie, and Mr Phillip Thomas. Discussions covered artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, clean energy technologies, and their
societal, ethical, and geopolitical impacts.
Speakers explored critical issues, including the affordability of new technologies for disadvantaged populations, the geopolitical risks of technological dominance, and the urgent need for ethical guardrails in AI development. Throughout the session, panellists emphasised the need to balance innovation with human values and to adopt policies that ensure

technological benefits reach all segments of society. The discussion was skillfully moderated by Mr Sunil Roberts Vuppula, GOPIO Associate Secretary, who posed thoughtprovoking questions and facilitated active engagement among panellists.
The program began with a welcome address by Dr Thomas Abraham, Chairman of GOPIO, who briefly outlined GOPIO’s founding in 1989 in New York and underscored the relevance of the webinar topic.
“We are living through an unprecedented acceleration of technology, with artificial intelligence, automation, robotics, data systems, and
biotechnology transforming economies and societies at a pace never seen before,” Dr Abraham said. “These advances bring immense opportunities for innovation, productivity, and improved quality of life.”
Dr Abraham added, “The transformation is no longer a future possibility—it is already here. The key question is how we prepare our societies to adapt, retrain, and ensure that technological progress remains inclusive and humane.”
GOPIO International President Mr Prakash Shah discussed the rapid and consequential changes expected from technologies such as driverless cars, AI, and robotics. He highlighted the risk
of large-scale job displacement and the exponential increase in demand for electricity and water to power emerging technologies.
“Many will gain windfall profits, but many more may lose their livelihoods. Shouldn’t we develop plans now to address the coming unemployment?” Mr Shah asked at the outset of the session.
Ambassador T. P. Sreenivasan, diplomat, author, television commentator, former Governor for India at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and currently Adjunct Professor of Eminence at Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai, delivered the keynote address as Chief Guest.
He noted that technological change is reshaping every vocation, including diplomacy, and that no profession can remain indifferent to these “tectonic tremors.” Quoting historian and philosopher Yuval Noah Harari, Ambassador Sreenivasan emphasised that the unprecedented speed of technological change poses a greater challenge than humankind's evolutionary pace.
He also addressed concerns raised at the United Nations Security Council about AIrelated risks to global stability and conflict prevention, underscoring the principle that “Humans must retain full control over life-and-death decisions.”
Concluding his address, Ambassador Sreenivasan said: “I am confident that this webinar will lead to further initiatives to ensure that technology is humanised—even if that requires a certain loss of speed.”
Professor D. Yogi Goswami, Director of the Clean Energy Research Centre at the University of South Florida in Tampa, discussed opportunities and challenges in clean energy innovation. He discussed cutting-edge approaches to climate change mitigation, including radiative cooling using deep space as a heat sink, advanced cooling paints for buildings, colour-changing coatings, nanoscale antennas for improved solar energy conversion, and the Goswami Cycle for converting lowtemperature heat into power and cooling.
Mr Piyush Malik, a seasoned executive, angel investor,
and thought leader in digital transformation, AI, and IoT, addressed how corporations are leveraging AI to transform customer experiences. He highlighted the rapid disruption AI is causing across economies, cultures, and daily life, as well as the geopolitical implications of AI leadership among nations. Mr Malik stressed that the main challenge in AI adoption is not technological capability but preparing the workforce and society to integrate effectively with AI systems.
“AI is not replacing humans— it is assisting and augmenting human capabilities,” he said.
He further emphasised the need to address skill shortages through self-initiative, education, and government incentives to promote AI literacy.
Dr Latha Christie, a former scientist at India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), examined the convergence of AI and quantum technologies. She highlighted their dual-use nature and the urgent need for trust infrastructure in an AI-driven world. Dr Christie discussed risks such as encryption disruption, governance lag, and hyper-offence, noting that AI is rapidly evolving from systems that “answer” to agents that “act,” plan, decide, and execute tasks across platforms.
“Innovation needs rails— clear guardrails—so that powerful technologies grow with safety, accountability, and non-negotiable human responsibility,” she concluded.
Mr Phillip Thomas, a serial entrepreneur and digital transformation executive, discussed the dual nature of
technology: both a force for progress and a potential source of harm. He emphasised the ethical implementation of AI and shared examples of AI applications in customer service, entertainment, and creative industries. He underscored the importance of emotional intelligence in navigating technological change. He encouraged participants to leverage technology to pursue personal passions while balancing individual benefits with the greater good of humanity.
The webinar concluded with an interactive panel discussion. Mr Malik reflected on his 30year career in data and AI, noting the unprecedented pace of innovation and the importance of collaborative ecosystems. Moderator Sunil Vuppula raised concerns about whether AI benefits would be accessible to economically disadvantaged populations, particularly in India. Ambassador Sreenivasan addressed the broader geopolitical risks of emerging technologies, noting uncertainties in the current global order and the potential need for new international frameworks beyond existing institutions.
The program ended with a vote of thanks by GOPIO Secretary Siddarth Jain. GOPIO Associate Secretary Vatsala Upadhyay provided technical support for the Zoom meeting. For more info on GOPIO, contact Sid Jain at +1 (201) 889-8888 or email at Secretary@GOPIO.net

New York, NY – January 11, 2026, The Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) successfully hosted its December 2025 webinar, “Diaspora Indians – Trailblazers in Global Business Success,” on January 10, 2026. Held virtually, the webinar brought together distinguished diaspora business leaders from the United States, the United Kingdom, Africa, and India to reflect on the challenges, resilience, and achievements of Indians who built global business success after emigrating from India— often with minimal financial resources.
The webinar opened with welcome remarks from
Mr Sunil Vuppula, GOPIO Associate Secretary and Chair of the Monthly Webinar Series, who introduced GOPIO Chairman Dr Thomas Abraham and GOPIO
International President Mr Prakash Shah.
Dr Abraham welcomed participants with greetings marking Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, observed on January 9, which commemorates Mahatma Gandhi's return from South Africa to India—a pivotal moment in India’s struggle for independence. He briefly outlined GOPIO’s founding in New York in 1989 and its global mission.
“The Indian Diaspora
today represents one of the most compelling success stories in global business and enterprise. From pioneering industrialists and innovative entrepreneurs to leaders of major multinational corporations, members of the Diaspora have demonstrated exceptional resilience, entrepreneurial excellence, and strategic vision. Their achievements have made a lasting global impact and continue to inspire generations of Indians worldwide,” said Dr Abraham.
Mr Prakash Shah traced the deep historical roots of the Indian diaspora, noting that Indian influence abroad dates back centuries. He cited the construction of the

Angkor Wat temple complex in Cambodia. He highlighted the journey of Indians taken as indentured labourers to Africa and the Caribbean under British rule— communities that today include some of the most successful business leaders in those regions.
Keynote and Panel Discussion
Mr Shah introduced the webinar moderator, Mr Anil Bansal, President of First National Realty Management. Mr Bansal shared his own entrepreneurial journey— from founding and selling a successful technology company to establishing Indus American Bank in New Jersey and later becoming a prominent real estate
investor.
Mr Bansal then introduced the keynote speaker, Dr Bhuvan Lall, a noted writer, biographer, and documentary producer known for his work on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Lala Har Dayal, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Dr Lall is currently producing a Hollywood film project.
Diaspora Indian Entrepreneurs’ Global Impact
Dr Lall spoke on the global success of Indian entrepreneurs and trailblazers, emphasising their ability to preserve Indian values while achieving international recognition. He highlighted iconic figures such as Prof. Amar Gopal Bose, founder
of Bose Corporation, and Lord Rami Ranger, who rose from humble beginnings to become a significant business leader and a member of the UK House of Lords. Dr Lall underscored the importance of leveraging the Indian diaspora as a strategic global asset and called for stronger collaboration between the Indian government, embassies, and diaspora organisations.
Insights from Distinguished Business Leaders
Dr Kali Pradip Chaudhuri, Founder and Chairman of the KPC Group, emphasised the need for Indians to focus on present and future challenges rather than resting on past achievements.
He highlighted India’s growing economic strength and potential under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, encouraging Indians worldwide to lead in knowledge, innovation, and education.
Lord Rami Ranger shared his personal journey from India to the United Kingdom, describing how values, education, and long-term vision enabled him to grow a business from £2 into a multi-million-pound enterprise. He emphasised the importance of political engagement and civic participation by the Indian diaspora and discussed his efforts to advance a UK–India free trade agreement and defence manufacturing cooperation.
In response to a question about young Indian physicians, Dr Chaudhuri emphasised cultural pride, education, and the teaching of Indian languages and history to preserve identity for future generations. Lord Ranger reflected on India’s civilizational heritage and its influence on global cultures, stressing unity and education as key strengths.
Immigration, Nonprofits, and Economic Perspectives Attorney and CPA Mr Navneet Chugh, Managing Partner of Chugh, LLP, provided insights into Indian immigration to the United States, noting that approximately 5.2 million Indians have entered the country since 1965. He highlighted the Indian
American community’s high levels of education and income. He discussed the critical role of the U.S. nonprofit sector, which accounts for nearly 10% of the U.S. economy and generates approximately $1.8 trillion in revenue.
Attorney Chugh also addressed economic disparities between India and China, noting that while both countries had similar per capita incomes in 1978, China’s per capita income had risen to approximately $17,000 by 2023, compared to India’s $4,000, resulting in a significant economic gap.
Audience Interaction and Closing Reflections
During the audience interaction, Dr Abraham explained GOPIO’s evolution—from its initial focus on addressing human rights violations against Indian communities worldwide to its current emphasis on political integration, civic engagement, and community service through nonprofit initiatives. Mr Prakash Shah emphasised the importance of technology in connecting the global Indian community through regular webinars. At the same time, Mr Anil Bansal encouraged greater participation from younger members, including Ms Manasvi Mangai, who represents the next generation of Indian leadership.
A concluding panel discussion explored India’s progress and global
challenges. Mr Chugh highlighted India’s potential to become a developed nation by 2047, while Mr Shah discussed India’s economic strength in purchasing power parity terms and the need to boost exports. Panellists shared personal journeys and stressed the importance of community involvement and integration.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by GOPIO Chairman Dr Thomas Abraham, who also announced an upcoming meeting on the Indian Diaspora Museum Project, scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2026. GOPIO Associate Secretary Ms Vatsala Upadhyay provided technical support for the webinar.

Stamford, Connecticut — January 26, 2026,
TThe Connecticut Chapter of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO-CT) officially launched its 20th Anniversary celebrations with a planning meeting held on January 24, 2026, followed by a special program commemorating India’s Republic Day.
During the meeting, members outlined plans for a 20th Anniversary Awards Banquet to be held in Spring 2026. GOPIO-CT, one of the
most active chapters among GOPIO’s 100-plus chapters worldwide, was inaugurated on March 24, 2006, in the presence of then U.S. Congressman Christopher Shays and A. R. Ghanashyam, then Deputy Consul General of India in New York.
Over the years, GOPIOCT has supported more than a dozen charitable organisations in Connecticut, sponsored fundraising efforts for the Bennett Cancer Centre to assist cancer patients and their families, and regularly hosted soup kitchens at the New Covenant Centre in
Stamford. A 20th Anniversary Celebration Committee was formed, with Secretary Mirat Joshi appointed as its Chairman.
Following the planning session, attendees observed India’s Republic Day with the playing of the Indian national anthem and a Republic Day address by Dr Thomas Abraham, Chairman of GOPIO International. Dr Abraham reflected on India’s democratic journey, noting that at the time of independence in 1947 and the adoption of the Constitution in 1950, many doubted whether
India—grappling with poverty, illiteracy, and social divisions—could sustain itself as a democratic republic.
“India not only withstood those challenges,” Dr Abraham said, “but emerged as the world’s largest functioning democracy. India’s journey over the past 76 years has been like iron tested in fire— emerging stronger—and the nation will continue to progress as a major player in the global economy.”
Dr Abraham then introduced Connecticut State Senator Dr Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox, Professor of Constitutional Law at Quinnipiac University, who delivered a talk titled “India’s Constitution and Its Significance.”
“India’s Constitution is among the most remarkable
in the world,” Senator Gadkar-Wilcox said. “It uniquely integrates civil and political rights with social and economic rights through Fundamental Rights and Directive Principles. Drafted under global scrutiny, its architects—most notably Dr B. R. Ambedkar—drew upon lived experiences while thoughtfully incorporating elements from other constitutional traditions, including those of the United States and Ireland.”
She added that the Constituent Assembly Debates reflect the pluralism and diversity of thought that shaped the Constitution. A lively and engaging questionand-answer session followed her presentation.
The program concluded with
patriotic songs performed by vocalist Srinivas Gunupuru. GOPIO-CT President Mahesh Jhangiani chaired the event, while Secretary Mirat Joshi delivered the closing remarks and vote of thanks.
Founded to advance the interests and global engagement of people of Indian origin, GOPIO is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, and secular organisation. GOPIO Queensland held its annual general meeting at Garden City Library on Wednesday, 4 February, marking a significant leadership transition and renewed alignment with GOPIO International guidelines.
Ceremonial and Administrative Highlights
The proceedings were chaired by a founder member (secretary), former president, and trustee of GOPIO Queensland Mrs Vinita Khushal. The returning officer was Yousuf Alikhan, a trustee, founder member, and former president. He dissolved the
existing committee, appointed the seven incoming members, and administered the oath to the new team.
Outgoing president Mrs Usha Chandra delivered a comprehensive president’s report, highlighting the chapter’s recent activities and expressing gratitude to Yousuf Alikhan for his substantial contribution to the most recent India Day Fair. Special trophies were presented to Irene Bayldon and Rohani Prasad in recognition of their tireless committee work over many years.
Outgoing treasurer Rohani Prasad presented the audited financial report, noting a
slight loss. The accounts were valid up to 30 June and did not reflect the India Day Fair held in August, indicating the need to consolidate events in future financial reporting.
The reports were accepted unanimously, underscoring broad consensus on the chapter’s recent performance and governance.
Name Change Motion
Founding president and trustee Umesh Chandta OAM spoke on a special motion circulated with the AGM notice. The motion proposed aligning the chapter’s name with GOPIO International guidelines by
