Goodwill’s High School Retail Experience Program continues to open doors for students and seniors through hands-on experiences that build confidence, develop skills, and expand career awareness. Through partnerships with local schools and AARP, we are creating opportunities to learn, grow, and explore future career paths.

Thanks to the collaboration between our Mission Services and Retail teams, the program is more accessible than ever. Students can register through our community volunteer portal, while new tracking tools have streamlined participation and hour reporting. We have also expanded outreach by visiting schools, where students can explore careers through Goodwill’s virtual reality headsets. These experiences help participants envision future possibilities while strengthening connections with teachers, families, and the broader community. By meeting people where they are and connecting them with Goodwill’s resources, we continue to inspire lifelong learning and pathways to success. IN THE BAG Goodwill-Suncoast advanced its commitment to sustainability through a new soft-plastic recycling partnership with Trex. Since launching in August 2025, we have collected more than 30,000 pounds of soft plastics—and we’re just getting started. We expect to recycle approximately 90,000 pounds annually, the equivalent of keeping nearly 6.9 million single-use plastic bags out of landfills, waterways, and ecosystems each year. Our partnership with Trex shows how community participation and collaboration can drive meaningful environmental impact. Together, we are creating a cleaner, greener future for our communities.
HIPPIES ARE RUNNING EVERYTHING 10Ks, 5Ks, and 1-mile walks...they’re everywhere! The 10th Annual Goodwill-Suncoast Hippie Dash kicked off again in May at Safety Harbor’s Waterfront Park; it was our biggest and grooviest event yet! More than 1,900 runners, walkers, and Goodwill team members gathered for a farout morning filled with peace, love, and plenty of good vibes. Participants enjoyed free food, groovy contests, and a colorful celebration of community spirit. The morning was packed with flower-power fun, including the signature 10K, 5K, and 1-Mile Walk. Little hippies hit the course during the Flower Child Fun Run, while the most dedicated free spirits took on the ultimate challenge by completing both the 10K and 5K races. Thanks to the incredible support of our presenting sponsor, Marsh McLennan Agency, along with our participants, volunteers, and local business partners, Goodwill can continue spreading positive impact throughout our communities. Right on! WORK IT OUT By expanding access through in-person and virtual Job Connection Centers in St. Petersburg, Riverview, Hillsborough, Lakeland, and online at MyJobConnection.org, we connected more than 4,000 individuals in 2025 with career resources, skill-building opportunities, and employment pathways. As a result, thousands of job seekers took meaningful steps toward achieving their career goals and building brighter futures. HERE’S THE STORY In 2025, Goodwill continued expanding childhood literacy across the communities we serve through BookWorks, reaching nearly 67,000 children and distributing more than 90,000 books at 154 locations. Supported by 447 dedicated volunteers who contributed 5,420 hours of service, the program placed books directly into the hands of children and families, fostering early learning and academic success. Since 1999, the aim of Goodwill’s BookWorks early literacy program has been putting books into the hands and homes of children who need them the most. BookWorks has dedicated volunteers who provide animated story-time readings at local Head Start centers and other locations throughout the community and present each child with a personalized book of their own to take home. BookWorks also gets books to elementaryaged students through our celebrated book deliveries, operating from Book Rooms in Clearwater and Wildwood.
During the holiday season, BookWorks extended its impact through a special Holiday Book Giveaway, distributing an additional 1,500 books to children and families. Through strong BookWorks covers an area and served support, community partnershipseight-county and volunteer more than 62,000 children, BookWorks exceeded itsgiving goals, access away expanded more than to literacy resources, and81,000 opened books in doors 2025. to brighter futures through the power of reading. Treasure hunting at Goodwill is good sport, but supporting the lifechanging programs made possible by every purchase is the real win.
t first glance, it looked like something out of a period film—a Victorian antique dining room table tucked quietly into the corner of a local Goodwill store. The dark wood carried the rich patina that only decades of family dinners, celebrations, and stories can create. Nearby, a set of elegant French country dining chairs stood ready for a new home, each featuring graceful curves, carved details, and timeless charm. For many shoppers, a trip to Goodwill is about discovering hidden treasures, and these finds were exactly that. Together, they created a beautiful blend of elegance and rustic European style—the kind of unique pairing that cannot be replicated in a modern showroom. What made the experience even more meaningful, however, happened at checkout.
While purchasing the antique set, the shopper learned that every purchase helps support life-changing mission programs throughout the community. Among those programs is GoodwillSuncoast’s affordable housing, which provides safe, stable, and affordable apartment living for seniors and people with disabilities. Goodwill-Suncoast operates five apartment communities that offer rent subsidies through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, with assistance based on residents’
income and expenses. Freedom Village apartments in Pinellas Park, Tampa, and Clearwater are architecturally barrier-free communities designed for people with disabilities. Heritage Oaks apartments in Palm Harbor and Ocala provide affordable housing specifically for seniors age 62 and older with low incomes. These beautifully maintained properties feature professionally landscaped grounds, attractive common areas, and caring management teams dedicated to helping residents thrive. That discovery transformed the purchase into something bigger than simply finding beautiful furniture. The Victorian table and French country chairs would soon become part of a new home and new memories, but the purchase itself was also helping support affordable housing opportunities for some of the community’s most vulnerable residents. It is a reminder that every donation and every purchase at Goodwill-Suncoast carries a deeper purpose. Hidden among vintage décor, antique furniture, and one-of-a-kind finds are opportunities to make a meaningful impact on the people in our local communities. Sometimes, the best treasures are not just the ones you take home—but the lives you help change along the way.

THE GOODWILL-SUNCOAST CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITY How does a Charitable Gift Annuity work? In exchange for your gift of cash, appreciated stock or other assets, we’ll provide an annuity contract that guarantees we will pay you a fixed income for the rest of your life or the lives of both you and your spouse. The yield you receive is determined by your age (or ages for a two-life annuity). The older you are, the higher the rate. The CGA assumes that at the end of life, a minimum of 50% of your original contribution will be available as a charitable gift. This fact allows a portion of your contribution to be tax deductible. Also, a portion of each payment is considered a “return of principal” and is not taxable. There are also capital gains tax savings when the gift was made from appreciated assets. Because the assets used to fund the annuity are not considered property in your taxable estate, they will not be subject to estate taxes or probate. The CGA gives you options to provide your own, and your family’s financial future with a guaranteed lifetime income that typically enjoy higher rates of return than most conservative investments. PATHWAYS PROGRAM GRADUATE: Vonice Green
Vonice Green’s journey is one of resilience, determination, and transformation. After being sentenced to 15 years in 2011, she completed her incarceration without a single disciplinary infraction, dedicating herself to personal growth and self-improvement. During that time, she discovered a passion for the green industry and earned her Florida Certified Horticulture Professional (FCHP) credential. Her commitment and hard work led to a transfer to the Goodwill-Suncoast Re-entry Center, where she gained valuable hands-on experience at American Plant Exchange. With support from Goodwill’s re-entry initiatives and the Pathways Program, Vonice transformed her dream of owning a business into reality by launching North Florida Plant Nursery & Landscaping Design on August 18, 2024.
