God’s Renovation

Recently, my sister and her husband started renovating their kitchen. I was staying in their guest room, along with all the dust that had seeped in from the walls being knocked down. When I looked around the unorganized room, I spotted drills and building materials lined up along the walls and scattered all around. While I was watching this construction go on, the Holy Spirit allowed me to see a spiritual perspective that I would like to share with you.
Many things in our lives need renovating. It could be a sin that you haven’t overcome, a relationship that is broken, or even a decision that you are not sure how to make. If you know Jesus personally, you know that the word sanctification implies that we continue to grow more and more like Christ throughout our lifetime. Jesus begins renovating our hearts and our lives the moment we trust in Him. From that moment, He continues to knock down walls within us that hinder us from living with and for Him. The Lord says, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 36:26).
Just like anything under construction, it may take longer for supplies and appliances to arrive than you originally anticipated. It is the same with God. Everything that is taken away from us during the renovation of our lives will be replaced with something better. The “something better” may be completely different than what your original idea of what “the best” looks like. We may not see it now, but on His time, He will rebuild, restore, and replace anything that He chooses to remove from our lives.
In 1 Corinthians, Paul speaks about spiritual gifts and how they ought to function within a church. In Chapter 13, Paul alludes to the fact that we cannot know and understand the mysteries of God in its fullness. When we reach Heaven, we will. We will not only see Jesus face to face, but we will know why every detail of our lives did or did not work out. We will know why God allowed or did not allow certain situations to happen. At the same time, we will be so enamored by His glory and who He is, that we will fall on our faces in praise to the One who deserves it the most.
What is God renovating in your life right now? What are you holding onto that He wants you to let go of? Who has He told you to forgive or to make amends with?
Trust that His goodness in your life is not only because of Him and His glory, but for your good too. “Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:51-52).
