Content In Jesus
his morning after walking, I took the time to sit outside with my battery radio and listen to the local news. The morning was so perfect. It was a little cool, with a blue sky and bright sunshine. As I sat there listening to the news on my little boom box, I thought to myself, how much more perfect could this morning be? I am so blessed to just sit here and enjoy all this
beauty in my own backyard. The birds were content also as they were happily singing their tune. It brought me back to a time when I was a young child and would sit on my grandparents’ front porch. My grandfather would often be there with his transistor radio and flyswatter. He was busy listening and swatting. Often, we would not always be still to listen to what he was saying. It seems that my brothers and I would be busy jumping off the porch or running up and down the front porch 40 // July 2020
steps. My grandfather was not lazy! It was just time for that local news, and in the summertime, there was no better place to listen to it than from the front porch. We got to enjoy it with him if we would be still long enough to listen. The Bible talks about contentment. I can see now that was what my grandfather had in looking back on those times. 1 Timothy 6:6-8: “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain that we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.” When it comes down to it, what is really important in life? My mom was pretty much telling me the same thing last night when I was talking to her on the phone. Trust God with your life. He is trustworthy, having truth, hope, and love. Others need our witness as we show His love to them. For truly, someone also took time and showed us the love of Christ. They introduced us to their friend and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. You couldn’t have a better friend. I am so glad that Jesus is that friend who sticks closer than a brother. He wants to spend time with you as you pray and read His Word. You will not regret those moments you spend with Jesus. You share everything with that true friend of yours. Share the burdens of your heart. He is listening.
