W
hat a summer we’ve had in New Zealand! The national rally in Auckland was a wonderful event, full of fun, games and comradeship - well done AONC. Over the last three months, I have travelled extensively around the country, visiting naturist clubs, events and venues, and the reception was really welcoming. Many were keen to tell their story and be photographed, allowing me to share with readers of gonatural. I also spent time with
some wonderful families who embrace the naturist life and want their children to be open to the benefits and values it entrusts. We hear and see so much horrific violence on the news and our computer these days, yet natural nudity is often banned or censored as something ‘injurious to children’. Therefore, I’m pleased to bring you a feature presenting a unique view from Kiwi families. I hope you will find it as inspiring as I have in creating it. In November I was in Wellington for the World Congress of Naturism, and it was an eye-opener! The machinations were quite something. I hope that the INF will get on with the business of growing the world community. Charlie Gilmour, son of Pink Floyd guitarist, shares his revelations about discovering nudity; there’s some great photos from two big events over the summer: the rally in Auckland, and naked men’s week in Golden Bay. I chat with new NZNF president, Donna Miller, and we welcome a new guest contributor: Miss Bareall, who I met over the holidays. She’s a delightfully bubbly wise old lady and will answer your questions and help with your naked dilemmas. Wherever you are, I wish you a great start to 2017 and look forward to hearing from you, drop me a note!

editor@gonatural.co.nz We are all born naked and somewhere down the line through the years various media and uneducated minds begin to twist the truth. Our human species is the only species that seems to misjudge who we are and the world around us with not just nudity but many other things. For example, you never see cats and dogs judging the other from their natural state because it is natural. The only difference with us humans is that we work and pay taxes and build materials, but some of those materials are trappings towards ignorant attitudes. This is 2016 and it’s about time that the people grow up and educate further generations in truth and social acceptance. If it wasn’t nudity it would’ve been gender issues, race issues, politic issues etc. I’m very proud to have been a naturist since I was a child. - Andrew Childers The feature “faces of Nude Zealand” [December 2016] was really inspirational and had lots of interesting observations from ‘leaders’ around the country. I see when things in such an organisation require changes for survival or growth in my professional role in business development, we focus on the solutions and actions. I sadly see little will for change at a local committee level. They just continually look inward and jump from fundraising to crisis to the same usual annual events on their programme. There’s on old adage, if you want to get to the same destination, go the same way! - Maureen Loburn, Auckland Being a naturist isn’t about sex or exhibitionism, as I see that many get confused about this difference. People should give themselves a better chance by meeting nudist singles who enjoys the same nudist lifestyle that you do! - Sammy Hodgson, Palmerston North We are volunteer workers for British Naturism and are the Holiday Advice Service advisers for New Zealand and Australia. I get a copy of gonatural - an excellent read by the way - to help me keep up to date with New Zealand. I was really interested in the December 2016 edition to see the thoughts of your leading lights. On our forum there is a big discussion at the moment about dropping membership nationally and at clubs. I have quoted some of your contributors to show that we are not alone. Your issues are generally ours as well. As an observer, I attended the International Naturist Federation Congress in Wellington. It looked very much like the United Nations, with translators, all able to be tuned to the channel of choice. What did strike me that the cost of this service, which seemed completely unnecessary given all the delegates actually understood English and could converse in this language, was $30,000. Surely this money could have been spent in a more productive way promoting naturism? Additionally, the election of officers and the use of proxy votes was another eye opener. While I understand the rationale behind the distribution of votes based on financial membership, it does open the door to allegations of a small number of countries holding the stranglehold on power and distribution of office bearers. What seemed to be a very democratic process in respect of the election of the president, with a secret ballot soon became the subject of division and rancour. Having heard an inspiring speech from the French President Armand Jamier, who was putting himself forward as the new International President and standing against the incumbent Austrian Sieglinde Ivo who had been 8 years in office, I was delighted to see that he won the ballot. The events which followed do those involved no credit in the eyes of the independent observers,or indeed a number of the delegates. One delegate,burst into tears and departed from the meeting in what seemed to be a fit of petulance. Another, who has probably been to too many previous congress meetings and should have had a better sense of democracy then turned on the president elect and criticised him for standing. I am sure this story will play out over the next few months and for one I will be dismayed if the election result is overturned by those responsible for what was an appalling display of bad manners and poor judgement. - David Saunders, Christchurch Thank you for your magazine, I live on a remote farm inland central Otago and my husband and we rarely get to participate in social naked events. We enjoy your stories, information, but most of all, the wonderful photography. Keep up the good work. - Mary-Ann Bishop, Otago Erections are most natural, but mostly an unwelcome sight in a public nudist setting. Many nudists feel that too much negative emphasis goes towards this naturally occurring event. The question is: Why should we naturists promote manly body shame? Why do we have to cover up an erection - this is a source of shame and embarrassment and stops some guys from even trying naturism. Deal with it in a natural way. It should be the behaviour of the fellow with a boner that is noted - the size or angle or the woody itself doesn’t matter. -Paul Gonzalvez, Copenhagen, Denmark

Thailand has naturist resorts waiting eagerly to serve you when the weather gets too cold to practice at home, wherever that is. The Royal Thai Government are giving naturism a wider recognition as a fun, harmless and healthy leisure activity, but on another front Facebook, Google and Microsoft, are successfully labelling our natural nudity as adult matter. They are showing an unwillingness to distinguish between naturism and pornography which is most likely deliberate. The online mind controllers are not alone. If you look closer, you will find fashion,
pharmaceutical, slimming, food, surgical clinics. We are surrounded by globalised and financially inexhaustible corporations who all live on making us believe that our bodies are imperfect. How convenient it is for them, that we are not allowed to see each other naked or post pictures of ourselves naked? The human body remains unopposed because there is no law against poisoning the minds of our young people with these dangerous body images. - Gregers Moller. Naturist Association Thailand
