For many Victorians October 2022 was a year they'd sooner forget with the Goulburn River and its tributaries wreaking havoc through much of the Goulburn River country that brings so much joy to our region. It shut down accommodation offerings and literally put the brakes on a Summer that offered so much promise to the economy post Covid 19.
Fast forward to November 2023 and Nagambie is back showcasing the very best of regional Victoria along with a massive line-up of comedians that brought thousands of visitors to the region. Laughter and wine flowed freely across Hide & Seek Winery as visitors enjoyed a weekend of comedy and wine at Comedy In the Vines. The Community Voice took a drive to the Comedy In The Vines festival, winding through dusty narrow roads, picturesque countryside to a secret world. With the Weir Road upgrade controversy still fresh in our minds it was ironic that it took centerpiece of the journey to where the Comedy festival would take place. Out of the car, we walked between the reeds, and onto the expansive private island arriving at Comedy in the Vines, hosted at Hide and Seek Winery. Waterways dotted with lily pads provided the perfect backdrop for the
stages and the perfect setting for the Relaxation and Rosé Station. Yes, you could kick back with a glass of Rosé and let the best nail artists in Victoria get creative with your nails. This was heaven, 10 minutes from downtown Nagambie! The biggest ever comedy line-up seen in regional Australia was embraced by all with visitors enjoying hours of world-class comedy. DJ Pedro Moshman pumped out the tunes between the comedy, giving everyone a chance to grab some food, and hit the dance floor. The Big Wine Tent (BWT) was popular, providing an opportunity to learn more about wine.The program in the BWT included wine industry heavyweights such as Mike Bennie and the incredible winemakers of the Nagambie Lakes wine region. New police station for Benalla The Benalla community is one step closer to receiving a new state-of-the-art police station after the Allan Labor Government today announced the successful tender for the station’s construction. Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes today visited the Benalla Police Station site where construction will start on 20 November by Joss Constructions. The Labor Government have invested $28.8 million over four years as part of the Victorian Budget 2021-22 to build the new station, which will provide a fit-for-purpose facility and link to the adjoining Benalla Magistrates’ Court. The 24-hour Benalla Police Station supports a variety of specialist units including the Criminal Investigation Unit, Water Police, Family Violence Unit, Highway Patrol, Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team, Crime Prevention/ Neighbourhood Watch Officer, and a Youth Resources Officer. The modern design will improve care and support for victims of crime with greater separation of witnesses and victims from offenders to better meet the needs for everyone involved in reporting crime safely. It will also include more private spaces, suitable secure rooms for interviewing people, a safe and secure space for people in custody to have visitors, and improved management of seized property and evidence at the station - reducing the risk of evidence being damaged. Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said, “I am pleased to announce the awarding of the contract for the construction of the new Benalla Police Station and announce the build will be underway in coming weeks.”

Restoring Former Avenel Courthouse Work has finally commenced on replacing and restoring the slate roof on Former Avenel Courthouse built in 1876 . Thanks to the generous support of DEECA ( Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action) on which the courthouse and Jubilee Park stand. Anne Douglas, Committee chairperson stated ‘ We are very fortunate to have employed the same professional slater who also repaired the Community Hub( former Police residence) two years previously, who resides next to the courthouse, after receiving funding from Bendigo Bank and the local community. The Community Hub built in 1875 is now being used by GV library to service our local town and also accommodates a volunteer JP on Wednesday afternoons along with a growing number of small
group activities. As you can see this majestic, historic former courthouse is worthy of attention and we are hoping to gain further funding through applications for grants through the Bendigo Bank Community grant scheme and wherever possible to repair the flooring and paint internally and externally so it is transformed back to its former glory. This will be a wonderful space for the community to access for a range of activities and functions as the Avenel community is growing rapidly and such spaces are becoming scarce. A plaque has been erected between the two historic buildings serving a reminder of our past and continues to be part of our future.

Spooktacular On the 31st of October, the Mechanics Institute supper room and main hall were turned into a spooky party palace. Close to 200 children—plus adults— came to brave the scary maze, play fun games, dance and have their picture taken. The hugely successful event was a wonderful testament to what the Nagambie spirit can achieve, thanks to its many hard working and committed volunteers. It all started two years ago, when the Historical Society decided to put on Nagambie’s very first Halloween event. For two years they ran a much appreciated ‘Night at the Museum’, gathering big crowds. For 2023 however, the society felt it was time to pass the baton, and approached Community House group leader Heidi Deane and asked if they could donate all their props for the event to keep running. Heidi in turn reached out to the parents of Nagambie Primary School, and soon had a group of volunteers forming the Halloween Committee. “We immediately knew we wanted to create an event for all ages,” Heidi explains. “Of course there had to be scary elements that suited the older kids, but it was important that younger children or siblings didn’t feel left out. That’s how we came up with the ‘two room solution’. In one we would attempt to create a scary maze with some technology, such as the moving Victorian paintings, but in the other, we would have a fun disco and interactive games.” Thanks to the great generosity of the Mechanics Institute, and gracious flexibility of the Op Shop, both rooms were secured and the planning could continue. DJ Phil was approached who immediately agreed to provide lights, a smoke machine and music. Then there was the crafting… “Some of the mums definitely spent weeks doing different crafts for the event,” Heidi says.
“They were making broom sticks, tomb stones, lolly bags, coffins, and a witches' apothecary, to mention a few examples. But what was so lovely to see with this group was that everyone worked to their specific strengths, and contributed with what they could. Whether that was creating a beautiful poster, advertising on social media, collecting milk bottles, doing setup or simply helping to clean up, people rallied. Apart from the Mechanics Institute and the Historical Society, the event also received support from the Men’s Shed, who created timber frames for the computer screens, and the Nagambie Primary School, who lent their temporary fencing. Additional volunteers from the Community House helped on the night with different tasks. Overall, the evening was very appreciated, with children doing laps of the ‘scary maze’, and dancing like, well, like they had just eaten tons of sugar. One particularly appreciated element was the photography booth. Community House committee member Bevlea Ross, is a very talented photographer, and she set up shop just before the entrance. There, families or individuals could have their photo taken, which Bevlea would later edit and insert into a few different specifically created backgrounds. The photos turned out amazing, and many parents expressed their appreciation, afterwards sharing their photos on social media. Community House coordinator Anna Close says that the feedback they’ve received has been incredibly positive. “Everyone’s just been so very thankful and encouraging. Sure, it’s a lot of work, but we all do it for the kids. Seeing their happy faces and enthusiastic twirls on the dance floor, makes it all worth it. The Halloween committee has already had a follow-up meeting discussing what we can improve, change, or add for next year. A water station is definitely one of those things! Mostly, we would love to have a few more volunteers join our little crew. Whether they want to help out in the planning stages, or just in the evening doesn’t really matter, but we’d love to have more people join in." "Everyone who lives in Nagambie loves the lake and nature and our close proximity to Melbourne”, Anna sums it up, “but it’s really the people that make our town magical.”

Nagambie Pool LIFEGUARDS, still a key focus for my article this week. Belgravia, the contractor running the pool, have been advertising for guards, and we are wanting to again appeal to anyone who feels they can offer support to get our pool open and operating with a consistent number of guards available. The main reason the pool has a reputation of not being open, is due to the lack of guards, and the season is due to open on 1st December, so we are hoping this is not a factor this season. The work has been progressing to have the pool cleaned and ready to go by the opening date. We have been promised some bushes by the Shire that will be planted along the fence line to aid in the landscaping appeal. Happy to have input with suggestions of how else we can improve this entry area. On a hot November day, 11 November 2023, 105 years since the Armistice at the end of World War One the Nagambie community gathered at the annual Nagambie memorial gardens and cenotaph to support the Nagambie RSL’s Remembrance Day ceremony once again. The Nagambie RSL Sub-Branch conducted the Ceremony in the gardens of the cenotaph memorial with Reg Dickinson, RSL President John Sharley, Reverend Richard Pennington, RSL member Michael Smith, and Strathbogie Shire Councillor Robin Weatherald being the official party at the ceremony.
Mr Dickinson led the ceremony, Reverend Pennington led prayers for those who served and died for our country, and for peace. It was good to see young local school students in attendance and two of their representatives took part in the ceremony. The Poem “On Flanders Fields” was read by Olivia Elson and a St Joseph’s Primary School student Chanel Frappell gave a reading relevant to Remembrance Day. Representatives from the Nagambie RSL, Strathbogie Shire Council, Nagambie Lakes Men’s Shed, Nagambie CFA, two primary schools, the local Ambulance and Historical Society. One wreath was laid on behalf of RSL Member Larry King. The sombre part of the ceremony was observed as for over 100 years. This meant that at the eleventh
hour, the reciting of the Ode was given by RSL member Michael Smith, the playing of the Last Post, the observance of the a Minutes silence and Reveille were respected just before the flag was raised to full mast by young Nagambie Primary School student Archie Boyle under John Sharley’s supervision. Reverend Pennington led the Benediction and closing prayers. Then the singing of the National Anthem completed the closing of the 105th anniversary of Remembrance Day at Nagambie. Refreshments were shared at the RSL after the ceremony. The RSL would like to thank all who attended the ceremony. They would also like to thank everyone who supported the Poppy Appeal that raises funds for RSL welfare projects for veteran’s families.

Council resigns as Waterway Manager Council has formally resigned from its role of Waterway Manager for the Goulburn River, from Hughes Creek to the Goulburn Weir including Lake Nagambie. Council was unable to secure funding from the Victorian Government to continue in the role and delivering this service was costing Council, and in turn our ratepayers, between $150,000 to $200,000 each year. At its October meeting Councillors endorsed Council’s continuation in the role under a shared service model with an external funding partner. However, this endorsement included the requirement that the shared service model be cost neutral for Council.

Wine Industry Champion Alister Purbrick wins prestigious Legend of the Vine Award Alister Purbrick was named the Victorian Legend of the Vine in front of a large crowd of his wine industry associates and colleagues at the Melbourne Royal Wine Awards Lunch on Friday 3rd November. The prestigious award recognises Alister’s outstanding and lasting contribution to the
industry. Alister’s career spans many years and many roles including as the President of the Winemakers Federation (1999 – 2001, now called Australian Grape & Wine), being the inaugural Chairman of Australia’s First Family of Wines (2006 – 2010) and being presented the Len Evans Wine Industry Leadership Award in 2012. Alister has been Chief Executive of his family-owned wine business, Tahbilk Group since 1978 and only stepped down as the CEO last year. Alister oversaw
a time at Tahbilk of great modernisation and expansion and he is proud that their wine company is seen as one of the most environmentally sustainable wineries in the world.
Grape and Wine shows his true passion and dedication to Australia’s Wine industry. Alister is well known throughout the industry and today’s award will be celebrated across the country.”

Mitchell Community Walk Against Gender Based Violence returns The Mitchell Community Walk Against Gender Based Violence will be held in Seymour on Wednesday 29 November as part of the 16 Days of Activism Campaign. 16 Days of Activism is an international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls that runs from Friday 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to Saturday 10 December, Human Rights Day. Council partners with local organisations across Mitchell and Murrindindi Shire each year through the Lower Hume Collaborative Group to support the Campaign. The inaugural Mitchell Community Walk to End Violence took place in Kilmore in 2019, however it has not been able to be held since due to the COVID-19 pandemic and October 2022 floods. The walk was attended by 200 people and started important conversations about family violence across the Shire. The 2023 walk begins at 10am from the Loco
Street GoTafe Campus in Seymour with a speech by Anj Barker, a victim survivor of family violence and advocate for gender equality and respectful relationships. The 1km walk will then conclude at Goulburn Park, Seymour where there will be a community event, including local support services and a BBQ. All are welcome and you’re encouraged to bring friends, family and pets. Participants are also encouraged to wear orange.

The draw was conducted on Friday 10th November at the shed. You can see that it was all above board as no men’s shed member won a prize. The winners could choose their own prize, except the 3rd prize winner, who had to take what was left! Thanks to all those that donated. First ticket out was David Branigan, who chose the wood, second ticket out was Norm Cornfoot, who chose the top pub voucher. The lucky 3rd prize ticket winner was Jenny Wright who seemed quite happy with her prize . The Men’s Shed will be conducting another raffle starting on Saturday 18th of November. Not sure of prizes yet but one of the prizes will be a beautifully restored garden seat. The Men’s Shed Annual General meeting will be held at the shed, 33 Filson St Nagambie starting at 10-30 am on Wednesday 13th of December. Membership renewals are due at the end of November. You must be a financial member to vote. The men’s shed is now in its 10th year. We have no plans for a celebration for now. Many thanks to all those who got the ball rolling on this project. A letter from Di Grant to the Community House was the start. We sourced many places to hold our shed, but none were suitable. We eventually started in a small shed at the back of the scout hall. It would only hold 2 people at a time! Thanks to the Governments, both state and federal, plus a grant from Bendigo bank we were able to make use of the land donated to us by the shire, and now have a permanent home at 33 Filson St. Always looking for new members.
Recreation Reserve in search of Secretary The Nagambie Recreation Reserve is a wonderful resource for our town, but as the Committee of Management we are struggling to form a workable committee. Ideally, we would have two representatives from each of our user groups, but due to the demands of normal everyday life, this is not the case. We have 5 user groups, football, netball, cricket, Petanque and the swimming pool. This includes junior, senior and both men and women’s teams. So you would think that we have a very large pool of parents and players to draw from, but we all lead busy lives and it is always and has been an issue to get a volunteers for the committee. With the imminent opening of our new “state of the art lighting”, we are sure there will be many other ways to utilize this facility. Hoping to allow night competitions, night training, perhaps a town market or many other community gatherings to take advantage of this functionality. The lights have been made possible by the Shire and State Government funding, we will be having an official opening when the red tape is finalized for their commissioning. Further details to be announced about this. We are very grateful to the Shire for their ongoing support in having this project almost to completion. If you are new to town, and want to get involved with any of the sporting activities held at our reserve, or just want to volunteer, this would be the ideal way to get to know people and show support for our town. We need new enthusiastic people with innovative ideas of how to advance this facility and committee. If you think you can help, we are in need of a Secretary, our current one resigning to focus on other pressing needs. We are happy to help support this position, and all assistance will be provided “getting your feet under the table”! Nagambie Senior Citizens We attended the first Nagambie Town Market on Saturday 4th and although it was very windy and only quite small, we feel it will continue to grow and be a feature of the town again soon. Thanks to Merilyn and Chris for being in charge of running the stall. We also have our Christmas Luncheon booked in for 11th December where we have been fortunate enough to have booked in the very talented Phil Close and Tika. You may have seen them at their Piano Bar performances at Zephyrz restaurant, always a great show. Our November newsletter has been emailed to members following our monthly meeting on the first Friday of the month, and available to others who would like to have a read, we have copies at the Post Office and also the Info Centre. We decided to postpone line dancing and Bingo, last Wednesday, due to a rise in cases of Covid and thankfully those affected are on the mend. Something we all know, we need to live with, but take the precautions as always. Line Dancing is still our most popular activity,
held on Wednesday and Friday from 9.30am. Beginners are welcome at both sessions, but have a dedicated time on Friday from 9.30 Both days have dances suitable for all levels. Come along and try if you have not been before, you will be made most welcome. Only $3 for members, and membership is only $5 for the year. Movie Day is the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 1pm. Our next movie is on 28th November, showing “You, Me and Dupree”. The Tai Chi and Get Moving exercise group is always a great way to get some exercise, all abilities are catered for, so come along and see what you are able to do. Move it or lose it!! Monday and Friday at 9.30 for Tai Chi and 10.00 for Get Moving. Just come for the music and the cuppa afterwards if you don’t want to exercise!! All Welcome. Rose Garden in memory of our queen The small community project to plant a Queen Elizabeth 11 Memorial Rose Garden in Nagambie has come to final fruition. In September, the rose garden was dedicated but because of the inclement weather it was not able to be blessed out in the open. The Dedication was held in the Nagambie Mechanics Hall. St John’s Anglican minister Reverend Richard Pennington and Rose Garden co-ordinator Diane Grant led the Dedication service and presented donors and supporters with certificates of appreciation for their help in establishing of the garden.

Reverend Richard Pennington made a souvenir booklet for those who attended the small Blessing ceremony and led the service that included prayers for our late Queen, and the garden and the blessing of the rose garden with water from his holy water vessel.
The Memorial Plaque and Sign in the Garden were visible for all to see what the Garden is in memory of - Her Majesty, our late Queen Elizabeth 11. Ms Grant thanked all who helped make the garden a reality and thanked Phil Hageman for

Blessing of the bikes More than 300 motorbikes rode into Nagambie on Sunday November 12 for the very first Blessing of the Bikes to be held in the lakeside town. Easyriders National Chaplain Stephen Wade and his helpers were kept busy blessing every bike and rider as they rode under the Blessing of the Bikes gantry and the Dirty Rats band provided live entertainment blasting out a tune through the Jacobson Outlook precinct. The Blessing of the Bikes is a global tradition where motorcyclists gather to pay their respects to fallen riders and if they choose, be blessed with holy water by one of the motorcycle Chaplains in the hope that it will bring you and your pillion safety on the roads. Blessing of the Bikes is an Australian Trade Mark event owned and run by Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation. Attendees kindly donate to the Blessing of the Bikes that supports Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation to drive national projects and programs to promote organ and tissue donation to save and improve more lives via organ and tissue transplants, in memory of Zaidee Turner.
Zaidee Rose Alexander Turner, aged 7 years and 22 days, died suddenly on 2nd December 2004 from a Cerebral Aneurysm. At the time of Zaidee’s death the Turner family had been registered Organ and Tissue Donors for 5 years. Zaidee donated her Organs and Tissues at the Royal Children’s Hospital, as were her wishes at the time. From this gift, the lives of seven other people were improved or saved. Zaidee’s parents, Kim and Allan, founded Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation to raise awareness of the need for increased organ and tissue donor registration in Australia. Zaidee was the only child under the age of 16 years that was an organ and tissue donor in Victoria this year and only 1 of 6 children nationally to be a organ donor in 2024. Zaidee's Rainbow Foundation partners with various organisations and members of the sporting community and hosts events that promote an active lifestyle. Through these partnerships, the foundation shares information and promotes discussion within families just like the Turners about organ and tissue donation. Zaidee's Rainbow Foundation also supports Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI). Murdoch Children's Research Institute is the largest child health research institute in Australia and one of the top three worldwide for research quality and impact. MCRI’s team of more than 1200 talented researchers is dedicated to making discoveries that make a difference for children’s health. The Blessing of the Bikes was a huge success in Nagambie with everyone enjoying the day as one very large motorcycle community. Next year is sure to be bigger and better.

Taco Thursday!
Throughout term 4, the students have been working hard to rehearse and prepare our whole school ‘Bee’ Musical. The story follows a beehive of bees and drones as they navigate environmental factors and their effects on the bees ability to pollinate flowers and crops. The students have enjoyed reciting their lines, singing and dancing to our bee themed songs and learning about how to position themselves on stage. The children are looking forward to performing for their families late November.
Towards the end of Term 3, students came up with the idea of trialling some 'in house' lunch order options. As a whole school the students devised an incredible list of lunches that we could make throughout the term, utilising produce from our garden. Our first lunch order day of spaghetti bolognese was a huge success, so last Thursday we made tacos. The students loved being involved in preparing the meat and salads for the tacos, but especially enjoyed eating them! Yum!

The emphasis is on non-bowlers that would like to try bowls on a relaxed competition level whilst learning the game and having fun. Results November 6 The Summer early starts began on Sunday with players now hit off between 8.00am and 8.30am, the first monthly medal for the 2023/24 season was on offer with 27 players teeing it up. The winning golfer, a player that has had a superb couple of months was Dave Fullager shooting a 89-20-69, the course conditions were once again in fantastic shape allowing not just our winner return a good score but most of the field. Runner up also a recent winner and player in form was Bob McAdam missing out on count back McAdam shot a 94-25-69, finishing top three was the resurgent Shaun Spicer compiling a very nice 91-20-71.

Rusty Schwab ,James Wall, Dennis McGregor, Spud Furletti (s) were in a close tussle till the 21st end when they scored an eight. Cashing in on the momentum, nothing was going to stop them from cruising home with an emphatic 34 – 24 win. Ruth King, Fay Hateley, Kate Donovan, Grace Kenworthy (s) combined in a great team effort winning sixteen ends and the game 31 – 15. Noel Slater, Graham Lewis, Pam Pedder, Geoff Hateley (s) were down eleven shots late in the game but won four of the last five ends to go down by only three shots. The next game is on 14 November at home against Nagambie. Mid-Week Pennant Division 6 Round 4 - Avenel 12 - 34 defeated Mooroopna Blue 2 -32. Norm Billingsley, Marg Harrison, Ruth Underwood, Graeme Toy (s) started well and finished even better. They built on the two-shot lead at the break to win by eight shots, 19 – 11. If you are unfamiliar with this game, it is similar to bocce, using steel boules and a jack ball that you are aiming to get close to for scoring points (like bowls as well). Check out some YouTube videos that give you a better idea. We have regular catch up playing days, Thursday’s at 3pm and Sunday’s at 3pm (or arranged to suit the majority.) This is a very causal catch up, we have days that no one can come, and days we have quite a few. We use a What’s App group to check who is coming. One of the best things about the club is the casual nature, you don’t commit to a team that relies on you being in attendance if you can’t make it.

The nearest the pin prizes went to our winner Terry Lowis on the long par 3 8th Gary Bow got one in close on the 13th and John James blasted a great shot into the stiff southerly for a ball on the 16th. The four ball best ball club matchplay was completed on Sunday, with John James and Dean Brown being crowned winners with a 1up victory over Michael Sloan and Lindsay Hall. The Nagambie golf course was in good shape with the greens showing no signs of the recent coring with the ball rolling consistently across all 18 the spring wind was up but scoring was good. A stableford event was played with 32 players hitting off the winner was Terry Lowis with 38 points playing some accurate golf tee to green and rolling in some great puts to take home the Seymour Club matchday voucher. Runner up a player who has been knocking on the door across the previous couple of months was Jim Doyle on 37 points, Doyle beat home two others on 37 with a count back they were Gary Bow and Jim Ewart.
It is such an easy sport to participate in and now the weather is improving, it is very pleasant in the shade down at our piste.

The eight bowls were quickly accounted for as no measuring was required. 15 November 2023 AVENEL BOWLS CLUB Weekend Pennant Division 7 Round 5 Avenel 14 – 37 defeated Eildon 0 -32. It was a very close game for Kyle Pedder, Graeme Toy, Ross Sinclair, Brett McDonald (s) with just a few shots separating the teams all game. Avenel were one down with two ends to bowl and with steely determination they won both ends by two and the game 20 – 17. Avenel led from the 3 rd end, but Eildon chased down Marg Harrison, Ron Harrison, Marion Gittus, Glen Bell (s) by the 18 th end to be one ahead. Spurred on by their teammates come from behind win on the other rink, they won the last three ends to claim the victory by two shots, 17 – 15. This win puts Avenel into the top four. It’s game next Saturday has been forfeited by Kyabram. Weekend Pennant Division 3 Round 5 Avenel 4 – 83 defeated by Shepparton Park 14 – 108. Rusty Schwab, Graham Lewis, Dennis McGregor, Spud Furletti (s) were up 8 zip after the first three ends. They never lost the lead and in a great team effort, winning sixteen ends, they powered home with a commanding sixteen shot win, 29 – 13. Things did not go well for Howard Geldard, Geoff Hateley, Charlie Kemp, Noel Slater (s) who were fourteen shots in arrears by the 18 th end. The team found another gear and won six of the last seven ends, scoring sixteen shots to one to claim an outstanding come from behind victory, 25 – 23. In contrast Pam Pedder, Donna Rowley, James Wall, Jake Wall (s) tried hard but were unable to reel in an accurate Shepparton Park rink losing 14 – 35. Ruth King, Fay Hateley, Kate Donovan, Grace Kenworthy (s) started well winning the first six ends. However, the Shepparton Park lads found the line and length and maintained consistency for the rest of the game to beat the girls convincingly 37 – 15. The next game for Avenel is at home against Seymour VRI.
Two day matches recommenced in A and B Grades for the first time since 2019/20 after compromised seasons due to covid and floods. A Grade played Numurkah at home in the match of the round and were poised to snare first innings points at the conclusion of day one. Numurkah were dismissed for 113 with Mark Nolan claiming 6 for 27 assisted by Mitch Winter-Irving and Josh Sanderson taking two wickets apiece. In reply the Lakers are 2 for 49. B Grade travelled to Numurkah with an extremely inexperienced side, six players under eighteen. They registered a competitive total of 171 due to a composed innings by Blake Ezard of 60 and a late innings rally by Jeremy Ezard 35 and Hugh McKeown 25 who continued his strong E Grade form. Numurkah are 0 for 2 in reply. E Grade were victorious in a high scoring match versus Katandra. Bo Harrison 65 and Jayden Oates 60 top scored in the total of 9 for 225. Katandra were restricted to 8 for 214 with Sam Villinger and Tyler Ritchie taking three wickets each. After three wins, a bye and a forfeit the women's team are second on the ladder. Last week they accounted for Bamawn/Lockington after scoring 4 for 106 from 20 overs. Kate Carracher continued her stellar form with 34, Shae Merrifield 15 and Sandy Ezard 10 were the major scorers. The combine scored 7 for 78 with Alicia Nicol the stand out bowler for the Lakers with 2 wickets. A belated thank you to the Strathbogie Shire for providing a grant to assist with the purchase of the women's cricket kit, much appreciated. The Nagambie/Old Students under 16 side are in third position on the ladder after the last completed match accounting for Waaia by 10 runs. In the current game they scored 7 for 146 against Northerners with Flynn O'Brien 21 and Flynn Bush 13 not out the best of the Lakers contributions. The Nagambie/Tatura under 14 team are in first place after registering comfortable victories in their first three matches. Flynn Bush has amassed 134 in three innings without being dismissed, Cooper Boddington and Tom Shelton have been regular wicket takers. The under 12 side are also in top spot after three wins. The leading run scorers are Henry Lloyd, Hudson Wursthorn and Jack Molyneaux. The under 10's played their first match and were defeated by Old Students. Isaac Bush top scored with 11 runs and he along with Sylas King, Noah Sanderson and Eric Titley caimed one wicket each. The first major fundraiser, the Melbourne Cup competition was an outstanding success. Thanks to all who sold and/or purchased tickets, Linc Sullivan the spruiker extraordinaire and to The Royal Mail Hotel for hosting the event.
