CORALES GOLF COURSE

Ibelca Vásquez, gerente general de Copa Airlines para el Caribe Norte // The General Manager of Copa Airlines for the North

La demanda del mercado, el potencial de crecimiento, la conectividad que puede generarse y la contribución al desarrollo de nuevas oportunidades de viaje incidieron en la apertura de nuevas rutas hacia el norte de la República Dominicana // Market demand, growth potential, the connectivity that can be generated, and the contribution to the development of new travel opportunities influenced the opening of new routes to the north of the Dominican Republic

GENERAL MANAGER NORTH CARIBBEAN OF COPA AIRLINES

Introducing the Airline’s New Destinations and Wide Connectivity

The Dominican Republic has a relation ship of more than 40 years with COPA AIRLINES, a company with 70 weekly frequencies in the country, connecting airports such as Santo Domingo, Punta Cana, Santiago and now Puerto Plata, with the Hub of the Americas in Panamá.

To learn about the benefits and diversity of connectivity that the airline offers its customers, we spoke in this exclusive interview with Ibelca Vásquez, general manager of Copa Airlines for the North Caribbean, based in the Dominican Republic.

GOLFISTAS DOMINICANOS: Tell us about Copa Airlines’ current air connectivity to and from the Dominican Republic, and how it impacts tourism growth.

Ibelca Vásquez: The Dominican market is very im portant to Copa Airlines and the current connectivity with this country is a clear example of this, reflecting our commitment to this market with which we have maintained a relationship for more than 40 years.

As is well known, air connectivity is a key enabler of tourism, and in that sense, Copa’s route network through the Hub of the Americas in Pana má allows the Dominican Republic to be efficiently connected with multiple destinations in North, Cen tral and South America and the Caribbean.

This connectivity not only expands travel options for Dominican passengers but also easy tourists’ arrival to the Dominican Republic from key markets in the region, with competitive connection times and a consistent travel experience. This has directly contributed to strengthening the country’s position as a tourist destination, increasing visitor flows and supporting the development of the local tourism industry.

In this sense, Copa Airlines’ connectivity acts as a catalyst for tourism growth, by integrating the Dominican Republic more efficiently into the regional network, boosting the destination’s com petitiveness and generating greater accessibility for business and leisure travelers.

GD: What was the biggest factor in Copa’s decision to open new routes to the northern of the Dominican Republic?

IV: The decision to open new routes to the nor thern area of the Dominican Republic is based on a combination of factors inherent to Copa Airlines’ network planning, where elements such as market demand, growth potential, connectivity that can be

For those arriving in the Dominican Republic, these routes provide direct access to the country’ northern region and, at the same time, allow them to take advantage of the multi-city concept, which offers the possibility to come through one destination and out through another. This enriches the travel experience, as it allows visitors to explore more than one destination within the country on a single itinerary, thus promoting more diversified tourism with greater added value.

For passengers departing from these cities, connectivity options are significantly expanded, as they can access more than 80 destinations in 32 countries through the Hub of the Americas in Panamá, efficiently, comfortably and with competitive connection times.

GD: Which international markets represent the greatest opportunity to attract golfers to the Dominican Republic, thanks to the connectivity offered by Copa Airlines?

IV: Thanks to the connectivity offered by Copa Airlines through the Hub of the Americas in Panama, the Dominican Republic has the opportunity to attract golfers from multiple markets in the region. Undoubtedly, the United States represents a great opportunity due to its travelers’ affinity for this segment, but we also see potential in Latin American markets such as Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and other countries that currently have convenient connections to the Dominican Republic.

The Panama Stopover program, onboard Wi-Fi, the ConnectMiles loyalty program, Dreams executive cabins, Copa Club VIP lounges… are some of the great benefits Copa offers its customers

The combination of extensive air connectivity and a world-class selection of golf courses positions the Dominican Republic as a very attractive destination for travelers seeking to combine sport, relaxation, and high-level tourist experiences.

GD: What benefits does a golfer have when traveling with Copa to different destinations?

IV: For a golfer, traveling with Copa Airlines represents much more than just getting from one destination to another; it means accessing a travel experience designed to make the most of their passion for the sport.

Our extensive route network in the Americas allows you to efficiently connect with the continent’s most attractive golf destinations, giving you the opportunity to enjoy different courses and experiences on the same trip through the Panamá Stopover program, which allows you to visit two destinations for the price of one, easily combining golf days during your stopover in Panama, as well as another city of your choice in our network at no additional cost to your air ticket.

Timeliness, one of Copa Airlines’ main attributes, is especially valued by golfers, who often have tee times, tournaments, and commitments that require precise planning. Knowing they can count on a reliable operation gives them peace of mind and allows them to focus on enjoying the game.

Additionally, they can accumulate miles through our ConnectMiles loyalty program, which they can use for future golf trips, cabin upgrades, and other benefits. Preferred status customers also

enjoy advantages such as priority check-in, priority boarding, and other exclusive services that make the entire travel experience more comfortable and efficient.

Altogether, connectivity, punctuality, flexibility, and loyalty benefits make Copa Airlines an ideal partner for golf lovers looking to explore new destinations while enjoying a world-class travel experience.

GD: As Copa’s director in the country, what do you consider to be the main strengths of the Dominican Republic compared to other destinations for the airline’s users?

IV: I believe there are several features that distinguish the Dominican Republic from other destinations in the Caribbean and the region:

The unique combination of beaches, mountains, culture, gastronomy, sports, and adventure all in one country.

The ease of access and well-developed tourism infrastructure, with multiple international airports and a wide range of hotels to suit all budgets.

The variety of experiences within relatively short distances: a visitor can enjoy golf in Punta Cana, historical tourism in Santo Domingo, nature in Jarabacoa, and beaches in Puerto Plata all in one trip.

The stability and maturity of the Dominican tourism industry, which inspires confidence in both leisure and business travelers.

The authenticity of its culture, reflected in its music, cuisine, history, and traditions.

And, without a doubt, the warmth and joy of the Dominicans, which is usually one of the aspects most remembered by those who visit us.

GD: Many people are unaware of the Stopover program offered by Copa Airlines in Panama. What can you tell travelers about this benefit?

IV: For those unfamiliar with Panamá Stopover, I would say it’s one of the most attractive benefits offered by Copa Airlines. The program allows you to transform a simple connection into a second travel experience, as passengers can make a stopover in Panamá for up to 15 days, either on their way to or from their final destination, at no additional cost to the airfare.

In other words, it gives them the opportunity to enjoy two vacations for the price of one ticket. They can explore Panamá, enjoy its culinary, cultural, shopping, and natural offerings, and then continue on to their final destination.

Furthermore, I am certain that this benefit will be even more appealing to Dominicans following the recent announcement by the Panamanian government to lifting visa requirements for Dominican citizens. This makes access to the country even easier and opens the door for more travelers to discover all that Panamá has to offer while making the most of their trip with Copa Airlines.

GD: What message would you like to share with the readers of Golfistas Dominicanos magazine to encourage them to choose Copa as their airline of choice?

IV: To the readers of Dominican Golfers, I would say that in Copa Airlines they have an ally in their passion for golf and for the way they experience their travels.

We understand that traveling to play golf is much more than simply getting from one destination to another; it’s an essential part of the experience, combining planning, comfort, and the opportunity to discover new courses and cities. That’s why we work to offer reliable and efficient connectivity across the continent.

Starting in October, we will be adding Wi-Fi connectivity on board, allowing you to stay connected during your journey and making your flight experience even more complete.

During your trips, in select destinations you can enjoy our Copa Club VIP lounges, spaces designed to offer comfort and tranquility before your flight. You can find out how to access these benefits on our website. Additionally, in select markets such as Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), Buenos Aires (EZE), São Paulo (GRU), Rio de Janeiro (GIG), and Montevideo (MVD), we offer our Dreams business class cabin, whose seats recline completely flat into a bed, providing passengers with a superior rest experience and greater comfort during the flight.

We invite you to keep informed about our news and destinations through our social media channels. To plan your next golf trip, whether to North, Central, or South America or the Caribbean, you can do so through copa.com, your preferred travel agency, or visit us at our offices; you can also contact our call center.
