The Insider’s Guide to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman and Ras Al Khaima With a fabulous blend of luxury, culture, world-class golf courses and stunning hotels, the Arabian Peninsula brings the phrase “money is no object” to life. My personal all-round favourite is Oman as there’s a little more adventure to be had because very little of the country has been developed for tourism, and the scenery is extremely varied, with mountains, desert and green and fertile lands in the south. Abu Dhabi is next on my list as it’s got all the fun of Dubai but more space and less “bling”. And, for fun, there is no doubting that Dubai leads the way with its dedication to fabulous tourism facilities with an astounding choice of hotels, eateries and apres-golf. And last, but not least, is Ras Al Khaimah which is developing rapidly while keeping a sparkling eye on eco-tourism. Oman: Golf, Culture & Coastal Beauty Muscat, the capital, is an elegant and welcoming city. Whitewashed villas, ornate mosques and rugged mountains frame the skyline, with the 16th-century Portuguese forts of Al Jalali and Al Mirani standing guard over the Gulf. The pace is gentle, the welcome sincere. There are no skyscrapers or brash developments here. Indeed the only building with more than 7 floors was built by accident! Instead, expect a destination of refinement, soul, and plenty of space.

The courses vary in style from links-style layouts hugging the sea, to more intimate valley courses winding through rocky landscapes. The golf is never far from a beautiful view. When it comes to hotels, Oman offers one of the most distinctive blends of luxury and authenticity in the Gulf. You’ll find ultra-polished resorts like The Chedi, St Regis and Kempinski, as well as mountain and desert retreats that reflect the country’s proud architectural heritage.

With only a handful of golf courses — but all of genuine quality — this is a place for those who prefer a more tranquil golf holiday.

Off the course, Muscat is ideal for exploration. The Mutrah Souk is a must-see: a buzzing tangle of incense-filled alleyways, gold merchants, textile sellers and Omani coffee shops. Don’t miss a walk along the seafront corniche at sunset. For the more adventurous, the Al Hajar mountains and Wadi Shab offer unforgettable day trips. Oman tends to appeal to those seeking an enriching escape — golfers who enjoy beautiful surroundings, cultural experiences, and a sense of discovery. The Royal Opera House attracts the world’s greatest artists in the most sumptuous of settings. The food is healthy and fresh, the weather excellent (especially between October and April), and the combination of golf and Arabian charm is hard to resist.

Oman above sea level, it offers a stark contrast to the coast and is a remarkable add-on for clients wanting to see another side of Oman. Alila Jabal Akhdar is carved into the cliffside with views across a deep gorge, offering minimalist design with warm wood, stone walls, and an emphasis on wellness. Anantara Al Jabal Akhdar is grander, with canyon-edge dining platforms, a full spa, and excellent facilities. The newer Hotel Indigo brings bold design and exceptional value, with floor-to-ceiling windows and an infinity pool perched above the valley. We recommend a 2–3 night stay for rest and contrast — cool air, peaceful views, and true stillness after golf in Muscat.

For other sports, the diving, fishing and sailing is top quality and I saw a surprising number of Europeans on cycling holidays in Oman...The roads and driving standards are excellent but I can think of easier ways to push myself! Presumably the five-day professional Tour of Oman every February wins the notice of enthusiasts. Horse and camel racing is followed with passion (and money). I tried sand boarding with as much success as snow boarding (very little) but the falls don’t hurt as much!

Desert Experiences

Oman works well either as a standalone destination or combined with the UAE for a dual-centre holiday. We recommend Muscat as your base, with five good golf courses within easy reach and a wonderful collection of hotels to choose from.

South of Muscat, the Wahiba Sands offer a classic desert experience with towering dunes, silence, and Bedouin hospitality. Jebel Akhdar Mountain Stays About two and a half hours inland from Muscat lies the spectacular Jebel Akhdar plateau, also known as the Green Mountain — a cool-weather escape famous for its terraced rose farms, rugged canyons, and dramatic high-altitude vistas. At 2,000+ metres 6

Oman (or self-drive) and you can combine the desert with the mountains or as a stand-alone add-on before or after your golf break. The peace and scale of the landscape offer an unforgettable contrast to city and coast life.

There is no alcohol served in public places outside hotels and licensed restaurants. You won't find bars on the beach or rowdy nightlife here — which suits the setting. Oman is a country that invites you to relax, reflect, and enjoy the calm. Women cover their hair in religious settings and often wear abayas in public, but there is no expectation for visitors to do the same. Modest dress is appreciated — especially when visiting towns, souks or religious sites. At hotel pools and beaches, swimwear is entirely fine. Omanis themselves are quietly devout, extremely polite, and almost universally welcoming. You will be offered coffee and dates in government buildings, family homes, and shops — not as a sales tactic, but as a gesture of warmth. It’s all part of Oman’s ethos: dignified, generous and proud. Markets & Souks in Oman A visit to Oman isn’t complete without time in the souks — traditional markets where trade, conversation and craftsmanship come alive. Unlike the sometimes synthetic markets found elsewhere in the Gulf, Oman’s souks retain their authenticity and I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the fabulous spices and herbs costing a fraction of the price back home.

Religion in Oman Oman is a deeply religious country — but not loud or pushy. The dominant faith is Ibadi Islam, a moderate and relatively littleknown branch distinct from both Sunni and Shia sects. Its central tenets are humility, tolerance, and personal responsibility — and these values echo strongly in the way Omanis live and welcome visitors.

Mutrah Souk – Muscat’s Atmospheric Gem: Located by the sea in the port town of Mutrah, this is Oman’s most famous and photogenic souk. A covered warren of lantern-lit alleyways, wooden beams, and incense smoke, Mutrah sells everything from frankincense and silver jewellery to pashminas, spices, and Omani khanjars (ceremonial daggers). It’s relatively expensive.

Mosques are everywhere, but they are quietly integrated into the landscape. The call to prayer sounds five times a day, usually via soft, melodic loudspeakers. Non-Muslim visitors are welcome to visit many mosques — and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is a must-see, with its Persian carpets, crystal chandeliers, and vast marble courtyards.

Nizwa Souk – Culture and Colour in the Mountains. This one is my favourite and the prices were amazing. If you're heading inland towards Jebel Akhdar or the desert, Nizwa makes a superb stop with its impeccable marketplace, and ancient fort. Once the capital of

Hotels in Oman Oman and still a centre for traditional crafts, Nizwa’s souk is split into areas: pottery, silverwork, textiles, and spices. On Fridays, the goat market takes place — a spectacle of livestock, haggling and Omani robes that’s well worth witnessing. I’m told that an even better, and even cheaper, market is at Jebal Akhdar.

The Chedi Muscat ***** The Chedi Muscat is arguably the most stylish hotel in the Middle East — and certainly one of the most discreetly luxurious. It’s a property that exudes calm, combining minimalist architecture with subtle Omani touches and a near-perfect coastal location. For clients who want an effortlessly elegant place to stay while playing the local golf courses, The Chedi is my first choice.

Further afield, Bahla’s modest market is known for pottery and camel harnesses, while the Ibra Women’s Market (on Wednesdays) is one of the last female-only souks in the Gulf — a genuinely unique experience for the culturally curious. These markets are social centres and brilliant places to understand the pace and personality of the country. If you’re looking to bring home something truly Omani, head to the frankincense shops, the silver merchants of Nizwa, or the spice stalls where dried limes, saffron and turmeric sit in pyramids beside cloves and mountain rose petals.

Set on 21 acres of manicured beachfront, The Chedi features elegant white buildings and reflective pools, framed by palm trees and the dramatic outline of the Hajjar Mountains. It was the first true luxury boutique resort in Muscat and remains a design benchmark in the region. There are 162 rooms and suites, all chic and understated. Deluxe Rooms are beautifully furnished, with high ceilings, dark

Hotels in Oman Facilities are exceptional without being showy. There are three pools — including the stunning 103-metre Long Pool set beside the beach — plus a full wellness centre, spa with Balinese therapists, gym, yoga pavilion and tennis court. Everything is polished and peaceful, aimed at restoration as much as recreation.

Kempinski Hotel Muscat *****

Dining is a highlight, with several distinct venues. The Restaurant is the elegant main dining room with four open kitchens serving Arabic, Indian, Asian and Western dishes. The Beach Restaurant is a superb fine-dining venue set directly on the shore.

Kempinski Hotel Muscat is a polished, five-star hotel located in the heart of the Al Mouj development — just minutes from the Greg Norman-designed Al Mouj Golf Club. This is a full-service beach resort with a sleek, international feel and the convenience of being right on the doorstep of a fine golf course.

The Chedi is just 10–15 minutes by private transfer from three Muscat golf courses: Al Mouj, Ghala and Ras Al Hamra. This is a hotel that works well for couples and discerning small groups. There are no children’s clubs or noisy facilities, so it’s generally quiet even when full. Many of our returning clients choose The Chedi year after year for its refined service and spa-like calm.

Dining at Kempinski Muscat is a strong point. The Kitchen serves international dishes in a buffet format with live cooking stations and theme nights. Bukhara offers North Indian cuisine with a dramatic open kitchen, while Soi Soi serves Thai street food in a fun, colourful setting. Zale Beach Club & Lounge is ideal for sundowners and fresh seafood, while Boulevard Tea House is a popular spot for light bites and patisserie. Located within the upmarket Al Mouj Marina precinct, Kempinski is also surrounded by a growing number of cafés, restaurants, and smart shops — all easily walkable. For non-golfers, this means spa treatments and boutique browsing by day, and atmospheric dining by the water in the evening. 10

Newly opened and already redefining Muscat’s luxury hotel scene, The St. Regis Al Mouj is Oman’s most prestigious new arrival. Set directly on the beachfront within the elite Al Mouj development — and just moments from the Al Mouj Golf Club — this is a resort that combines international polish with Arabian flair. I loved the vibe and so do the well-heeled locals. The architecture blends Moorish, Andalusian and Omani influences. Inside, the feel is plush and opulent, but never gaudy. Marble floors,

Hotels in Oman oversized chandeliers, rich textiles and discreet personal touches create a sense of glamour that’s perfectly suited to the brand. There are 250 rooms and suites, each extremely spacious with extra-large bathrooms and balconies. The décor leans towards the classic — neutral tones, elegant furnishings, and St. Regis’ signature butler service throughout. The marble bathrooms are particularly impressive, with twin vanities, soaking tubs and walk-in rain showers. .

The hotel fronts a private beach and a long, wide promenade that’s perfect for morning strolls or sunset walks. Facilities include two pools (one adult-only), a fully-equipped gym, and a lavish Iridium Spa with steam rooms, hammams, and bespoke rituals blending local ingredients with global techniques. There’s also a chic indoor-outdoor cigar lounge, a library, and beautifully landscaped gardens dotted with quiet seating areas.

The resort also makes an excellent base for couples where only one partner plays golf. The St. Regis Al Mouj Muscat Resort is a superb addition to your golf holiday shortlist.

Sifawy Boutique Hotel, Jebel Sifah A stunning 45-minute drive from Muscat, Sifawy sits on the marina and enjoyable nine-hole golf course. There are 82 bedrooms— some self-catering and all with private balcony. It’s modern, bright and fantastic value. It reminds me of the better boutique resorts on the Costa del Sol but with even nicer weather, incredible scenery and prices to really please.

Karibu is the all-day dining venue with an East Africa-meets-Arabia twist; Roberto’s brings contemporary Italian cuisine to an elegant, high-ceilinged dining room; and the St. Regis Bar offers live music, a clubby atmosphere, and the brand’s iconic Bloody Mary in a date

Hotels in Oman and cocktails on the terrace, with views across the surrounding terraces and peaks. The rooftop space is a relaxed spot for an aperitif or digestif under the stars — the sky up here is incredibly clear.

Mountain Retreat Hotel, Hotel Indigo Jabal Akhdar **** Perched high in Oman’s Al Hajar Mountains at over 2,000 metres above sea level, the Hotel Indigo Jabal Akhdar is a fresh new addition to the Green Mountain’s accommodation scene. It offers a welcome alternative to the better-known Alila and Anantara resorts — combining bold design with approachable luxury at a price that represents excellent value.

Desert Camps Stargate Camp. Two hours from Muscat and in the Wahiba Sands, Stargate offers low-profile, high-quality with stunning views. The restaurant serves various cuisines and soft drinks. Desert Nights. Nearer Muscat, Desert Nights is more modern and offers a Balinese spa and restaurant with alcohol for sale. Arabian Nights. Part of the influential Zahara Group, Arabian Nights is the most modern and hotel-like desert camp. 20 miles through the Al Shariah Sands, enjoy the bonfires, al fresco dining, pool and licensed bar.

The hotel design blends sleek modernity with mountain motifs: expect carved wood, rough stone finishes, colourful textiles, and large picture windows framing the craggy landscape. Rooms and suites are spacious and thoughtfully designed and I would recommend the Suite with your own infinity plunge pool overlooking the ravine. All bedrooms have floor-to-ceiling windows and most open onto a private terrace or balcony — ideal for a sunrise coffee or post-hike sunset drink. Bathrooms are modern, with walk-in showers and deep soaking tubs. The hotel’s centre piece is its heated infinity pool, set dramatically against a wide canyon drop. There’s a separate spa and superb wellness area, a small gym, and well-marked hiking trails that start just steps from the reception. The air is cool and dry — often 10–15° C cooler than Muscat — making it an ideal place to read, rest and recover after a few days of golf. Dining is taken seriously at Indigo. In fact, it was probably the best meal of a dozen delicious lunches and dinners I had during my visit. The main restaurant, Roses and Radiance, offers a daily changing menu that blends modern Mediterranean with Levantine and Omani ingredients. The Basmah Lounge & Bar offers lighter dishes 12

Golf Courses in Oman maintained to tournament standards. The fairways are generous but well-bunkered, the greens large and contoured. A new clubhouse will be ready for mid-2026. The one downside of Al Moug is its proximity to the airport when playing the back nine so you sometimes feel that the course is a little “urban”.

Al Mouj Golf – Greg Norman Signature Course Par 72, Yardage: 7,342

Ghala Golf Club – Valley Golf with Mountain Views Par 72 – Yardage: 6,592 I really enjoyed this layout which features quite generous holes with several cut through a narrow ravine. It’s very pretty but you have to keep the ball in play as there are plenty of ditches and few water hazards. First opened in 1971 as a sand course, it’s now a lush 18-hole parkland course. It’s relatively short compared to Al Mouj, but the terrain makes for interesting and strategic golf. Several holes involve elevation changes, blind shots and firm greens that require soft hands. Expect to

Al Mouj Golf is Oman’s flagship course. Designed by Greg Norman, this championship links-style course is set along a two-kilometre stretch of the Gulf of Oman, with the Hajjar Mountains providing a striking inland backdrop. The layout is long, clean-cut, narrow in places and challenging. The front nine works its way inland with a series of wide fairways and water features, while the back nine sweeps along the coast in dramatic style. The par-3 5th is a delight: a short hole played across water to a heavily protected green. The 18th, with the Indian Ocean flanking the entire left side, is a superb and risky closing hole. Al Mouj hosts the European Challenge Tour’s Oman Open and is 13

Golf Courses in Oman La Vie Club, Muscat

The atmosphere here is relaxed and friendly. Ghala is a members’ club and often feels like Oman’s ‘local’ course — with far less fanfare than Al Mouj but a loyal following.

Par 72 – Yardage: 7,300+ Previously known as Muscat Hills, this was Oman’s first grass golf Close to Al Mouj, it’s a very enjoyable layout cut through a wide ravine and surrounded by upmarket real estate. It feels more spacious than it looks with generous landing areas, but penal rough if you go really wide. There are quite a few dramatic elevation changes.

There’s a good practice ground, tidy changing rooms, and an informal bar-restaurant that feels more golf club than resort. It may not be the first course on your list but you will enjoy the contrast and intimacy it provides.

The back nine is particularly enjoyable, with several holes curling around cliff edges or played from raised tees into natural amphitheatres. La Vie encourages you to play well. The on-site Tivoli lifestyle hotel with 80 bedrooms plus residences will open in 2026.

Ras Al Hamra Golf Club – Twilight Golf Par 71 – Yardage: 6,463 (9 holes) Ras Al Hamra Golf Club is a hidden 9-hole gem just ten minutes from most city hotels. And it’s floodlit so you can tee off until late. The course is surprisingly technical, with some tight fairways, rocky surrounds and a real need to plan ahead The par-3s are especially strong. The clubhouse is tiny and simple but great fun with Guinness on tap and sports screen...I bet half the members don’t even play golf! Pictured below left.

Par 36 – Yardage: 3,253 (9 holes) Tucked away in the remote seaside golf-hotel resort of Jebel Sifah, around 75 minutes southeast of Muscat, this nine-hole course hugs the edge of the marina development. The charm here lies in the setting: you’re playing golf in the sun, surrounded by sea and desert and with few players around you. Jebel Sifah is great for a gentle game followed by a waterside lunch or a swim in the sea. Dubai For our clients, Dubai works beautifully as a week of indulgence or a long weekend of guaranteed sunshine, fine food, and superb golf. If you want the widest choice of courses, hotels and after-golf activities, this is the place to start. The desert is never far away. Sunset safaris include dune bashing, camel rides, falcon shows and dinner under the stars. For a more tranquil encounter, try an early morning hot air balloon ride over the dunes, or a nature-focused drive through the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. Modern Dubai is best explored vertically: ascend the Burj Khalifa for panoramic views, then descend to watch the Dubai Fountain shows or dine in the fashionable restaurants of Downtown. Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates combine shopping with aquariums, ski slopes and art galleries. The beaches of JBR and La Mer offer white sand, gentle surf and sun loungers — and most hotels include access to private stretches. Superbly located next to The Palm and Dubai Marina, the 508bedroom Le Royal Meridien is my recommendation for clients 24

who are looking for comfort and service without glamour, at a price which leaves plenty of your holiday budget to spend on the best golf courses. The Dine Around half-board option allows you to choose from scores of restaurants in Dubai. A great-value winner every time, ideal for groups.

Address Montgomerie ***** Address Montgomerie is Dubai’s most golf-focused resort — a boutique hotel located directly on the Montgomerie Golf Club, within the prestigious Emirates Hills estate. It offers smart, understated accommodation with direct access to the course and a quiet, residential setting away from the buzz of the city but still just three miles from The Palm. It’s a welcoming and “clubby” hotel and I’ve enjoyed my stays here. There are just 21 rooms, each overlooking the golf course or gardens. Interiors are modern and streamlined, with warm wood tones, large bathrooms and Nespresso machines. The hotel has its own restaurant, 19, overlooking the 18th green and serving Mediterranean-style food and brunches. A highlight is direct access to The Montgomerie: a pleasant course with lakes, rolling fairways and lined by villas. Best suited for small groups and those looking to maximise their time on the course while still enjoying full-service comfort and five-star attention.

Golf courses in Dubai Jumeirah Golf Estates – Fire Course

Jumeirah Golf Estates – Earth Course

Often overshadowed by its more famous sibling, the Earth Course, the Fire Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates is a worthy championship layout in its own right. Also designed by Greg Norman, Fire offers a more open and rugged aesthetic, with undulating fairways, deep bunkering, and fewer water hazards. It’s among my top three courses in the area.

Dubai’s most prestigious tournament venue, the Earth Course is a masterstroke of championship course design and one of the crown jewels of Middle Eastern golf. Launched in 2009 as the permanent home of the DP World Tour Championship, the Earth

At 7,480 yards from the tips, Fire plays slightly shorter than Earth but presents an equally strategic challenge. The course is defined by its links-style elements: firm fairways, large run-offs, and long grasses lining many of the holes. Wind is often a factor, particularly on elevated tees, and club selection becomes critical throughout the round. Hole highlights include the par-5 14th with its split fairway and the par-3 15th, which features an elevated green and deceptive crosswinds. The same world-class practice and clubhouse facilities serve both courses, making a 36-hole day here one of the most rewarding in the UAE.

Course is a Greg Norman creation which presents the most varied challenge and lush aesthetics in Dubai. Stretching to over 7,700 yards from the championship tees, Earth is a course of formidable scale and challenge. But it is also eminently playable from forward tees, with immaculate fairways, generous landing zones, and superlative conditioning throughout the year. The layout weaves through a series of rolling fairways framed by mature trees, white sand bunkering, and an abundance of water hazards. The course’s finishing stretch is particularly dramatic – none more so than the par-5 18th, which features a creek that snakes up the fairway before cutting directly across the approach to the green.

Golf courses in Dubai Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club Set along the shores of the historic Dubai Creek, this par-71 course designed offers one of the most scenic and challenging rounds in the emirate. Opened in 1993, Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club boasts a championship pedigree.

The 7,009-yard layout flows gracefully through palm-lined fairways and features numerous water hazards, with the final stretch hugging the edge of the creek itself and seriously laying claim to being the best finishing stretch in the region. The 17th and 18th are standout holes—both require heroic carries over water with the skyline forming a stunning backdrop. Its iconic clubhouse, shaped like the sails of a dhow, is one of Dubai’s most recognisable landmarks.

Arabian Ranches Golf Club A more relaxed and traditional counterpoint to the showier courses of central Dubai, Arabian Ranches Golf Club delivers the feel of 26

a desert golf retreat with the convenience of being just 25 minutes from the city’s core. Designed by Ian Baker-Finch in association with Nicklaus Design, this par-72 course offers a walking-friendly layout that blends naturally into the surrounding sand dunes and residential community. I really enjoy playing this course as it’s a mix of Arizona-like target golf, inland links and Dubai scenery. Particularly now that the rough is far less penal. The course’s topography and wide fairways make it enjoyable for a broad range of handicaps. Rather than water features or dramatic elevation changes, the Arabian Ranches course relies on its subtly contoured greens, strategic bunkering, and native desert flora to provide challenge and variety. Sandy waste areas and natural grasses border many holes, contributing to a sense of immersion in the desert environment without punishing less accurate players. Though it's less known internationally than its high-profile neighbours, Arabian Ranches enjoys a loyal following. Its clubhouse is intimate and welcoming, housing a small hotel. Its also one of the few clubs in Dubai where walking is genuinely feasible for much of the year. Popular with those looking to escape the glitz for a few rounds of relaxed, quality golf in a calm and picturesque setting.

The Els Club, Dubai Sports City

This par-72 course stretches up to 7,220 yards, offering a welcome blend of challenge and playability. The course's layout features wide fairways and vistas of the Dubai skyline. The design thoughtfully integrates including wadis and lakes, which add to the fun and the strategy required. Managed by Troon Golf, Dubai Hills Golf Club ensures impeccable service and course maintenance.

The Els Club in Dubai Sports City offers a 'desert links' experience over its 7,538-yard, par-72 layout. I enjoy playing Els courses, even when I’m not swinging very well as he’s very generous off the tee and his designs clearly indicate where to try and hit your shot—in other words, he’s on your side! Saying that there are still enough challenges here with undulating fairways, native desert vegetation, and lots of bunkers! And that's before you get to the massive and raised greens. With a relatively keen green fee and super facilities, The Els Club should be on your “Dubai Tick List”.

The newest golf course in the area, it’s already considered among the very best.

Trump International Golf Club Situated in the heart of DAMAC Hills, Trump International Golf Club Dubai is a par-71, 7,205-yard course designed by Gil Hanse. The course features a mix of expansive fairways, clever bunkering, and challenging water hazards. A fully floodlit back-nine and glamorous clubhouse night-time play an excellent evening out. Hanse’s love and knowledge of links golf is clearly on show with the faultless use of short grasses to add to the fun and the aesthetic. The clubhouse offers gourmet dining, a pro shop, and leisure facilities. Since its inauguration in 2017, the club has become a prominent fixture in Dubai's golfing landscape.

Golf courses in Dubai Emirates Majlis

Emirates Faldo

Widely regarded as the most iconic golf course in the Middle East, the Majlis Course at Emirates Golf Club is a crown jewel of Dubai’s golfing scene. Designed by Karl Litten and opened in 1988, it was the first all-grass course in the region and has since hosted the Omega Dubai Desert Classic for decades.

Originally opened in 1996 as the Wadi Course, this par-72, 7,052-yard layout was redesigned by Sir Nick Faldo in 2006. It’s the only fully floodlit 18-hole course in Dubai, allowing golfers to play well into the evening.

A par-72 layout stretching to 7,301 yards, the Majlis weaves through a rolling desert landscape punctuated by palm trees, natural dunes, and seven freshwater lakes. It offers a classic riskreward layout with plenty of strategic bunkering and water hazards. Signature holes include the par-4 8th with its intimidating island green, and the par-5 18th, which demands three perfect shots.

The Faldo Course is known for its dramatic bunkering and challenging greens. Fairways are framed by native desert flora and tall grasses, while several water features come into play, especially on the back nine. Officially more forgiving than the Majlis, I rate Faldo courses as difficult (and the Emirates is no exception) but rewarding to play. The shared facilities with the Majlis Course are first-rate and include a large range, putting green, and short game area.

The Address Montgomerie Dubai Located in the upscale Emirates Hills and with its own boutique hotel, The Address Montgomerie Dubai is a par-72, 7,396-yard course designed by, you guessed it, Colin Montgomerie! Now surrounded by an upmarket residential estate, the course has lost some of its charm but doesn’t feel claustrophobic as the fairways are super-wide. The layout combines traditional links-style elements with fairway hillocks plus water features and huge (but shallow) bunkers. Next to his course in Belek, Turkey I think this is Colin Montgomerie’s second best design and a play&stay holiday at this resort is a charming and relaxing way to enjoy the most 21st-century of destinations that is Dubai.

Hotels in Abu Dhabi Rixos Premium Saadiyat Island ***** Rixos hotels do All Inclusive very well indeed and their hotel on Saadiyat Island is probably their best. Highly-rated for facilities, the generosity of the food and beverage and service, the hotel is located on the beach. Bedrooms (288) are contemporary and good looking. With six restaurants, our clients can eat up to five times per week at the four A la carte restaurants, with up to five courses and unlimited beverages. And six bars come in handy wherever you are in the resort. Rixos is well-known for its leisure facilities and entertainment—so you’ve got it sorted—food and drink as often as you want it, golf on one side and the beach on the other and plenty of sports to work off that second pudding.

Golf courses in Abu Dhabi Yas Links Abu Dhabi

The setting is spectacular, with fairways flanked by saltwater inlets, wispy rough and rugged dunes. The course rewards creativity, shot shaping and smart play in the wind. Greens are large, contoured and fast — and the bunkering is both beautiful and strategic.

Par 72 – Yardage: 7,450

Yas Links has hosted the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, and the facilities are tournament grade: vast practice areas, a sleek clubhouse, and excellent service from caddies and staff. The restaurant terrace offers one of the best post-round views in the UAE. Sustainability was a key element in its creation, and the landscaping incorporates native grasses and protected areas. The clubhouse is spacious and modern, and service is polished. Yas Links is widely considered one of the finest courses in the Middle East — and one of the few true links-style layouts in the region. Designed by Kyle Phillips, the course weaves along the western shore of Yas Island, with nine holes set directly against the Arabian Gulf. Listed in the World Top 100, it’s also regularly considered the very best golf in region.

Saadiyat Beach Golf Club Par 72 – Yardage: 7,784 Designed by Gary Player and with nine holes redesigned and upgraded in 2024/25. Saadiyat Beach Golf Club is a long, flowing course set just inland from the beach on Saadiyat Island. It’s known for its sea breezes, wide fairways and impressive natural setting — where gazelles and herons are regular sightings. Several holes offer glimpses of the Gulf, particularly on the back nine, where the par-3 17th plays directly towards the water. The routing uses the land beautifully, with broad, undulating fairways and plenty of bunkering. The course is long off the back tees, but generous and playable from the forward markers. Set on the coast and slightly inland, the course features wide fairways, lakes, date palms and gently undulating terrain. It’s an accessible course for most handicaps but remains a strong test — 39

Ras Al Khaimah offers a slower, more relaxed pace than its tourist -oriented neighbours. But for many, that is its charm. With pristine beaches, luxury resorts, and dramatic mountain backdrops, it also boasts two fine golf courses and a growing reputation as a destination for nature lovers and adventurers. Here, desert meets sea, and tradition blends seamlessly with indulgence. With history dating back 7,000 years, there’s incredible culture, traditional architecture and 40 miles of pristine coastline. It’s the hidden gem of the Gulf Peninsula.

A rare example of a pre-oil-era Emirati village, Al Jazeera Al Hamra was abandoned in the 1960s and remains largely untouched. The coral-stone buildings, courtyard homes, and mosques provide a glimpse into traditional life before modernisation. Located close to Al Hamra, it makes an easy cultural stop before or after a round of golf. One of the only remaining operating pearl farms in the region, Suwaidi Pearl Farm offers guided boat tours (pictured below) that delve into the history and techniques of pearling in the Arabian Gulf. Golf courses in Ras Al Khaimah Al Hamra Golf Club

Tower Links Golf Club Set against the backdrop of the Hajar Mountains and nestled within a protected mangrove reserve, Tower Links offers a markedly different experience over the 18 holes. Opened in 2004, the course spans over 7,200 yards and is widely recognised for its embrace of the environment. In fact, 11 of the 18 holes weave through natural mangrove swamps, with abundant birdlife and native vegetation adding both charm and challenge, and the other 7 are laid out adjacent to harsher desert-type surrounds. Tower Links is a par-72 with the mostly generous fairways bordered by sandy waste areas, pot bunkers, and tricky green complexes. The back nine, particularly holes 13 through 16, are the most scenic – and the most perilous – as they skirt dense mangroves and winding waterways.

The crown jewel of golf in Ras Al Khaimah, Al Hamra Golf Club is a championship 18-hole layout. At 7,325 yards from the back tees, the course offers a strong test, though its wide fairways and generous landing areas make it playable for mid-handicappers as well. Built around a series of four inter-connected lagoons and bordered by the Arabian Gulf on one side and the luxury Al Hamra Village on the other, the course blends natural beauty with modern design.

Tower Links is a bit of a melting point of a design so lacks cohesion but it’s a fun day out and some of the holes are excellent.

Water is in play (or at least in your view) on nearly half the holes, and the soft Gulf wind, often a factor here, adds another strategic element. The practice facilities are first-rate, and the club offers floodlit golf in the evenings – a popular option during the warmer months.

Al Hamra Golf Club has also hosted several professional events, including the European Challenge Tour.
