The last weekend in June this year was a soggy one! Even after the drenching rain on Friday, the weekend was definitely the best weekend of the Summer‌because it was filled with Corvettes and FUN! While Friday brought to Indy the 2nd wettest June 23 on record and the wettest since 1960, those attendees that braved the rain told us they Guy Larsen, President had a great time! They were able to spend the day with inside vendors, in the garages, taking in the 2017 Gold Collection, making new friends and catching up with old ones. The high spirits of the attendees I spoke to made me realize that it was still a special day for those in attendance. Before looking ahead to 2018, I want to first invite you to join us in Charlotte this October as we return to Hendrick Motorsports complex for the 2nd annual Bloomington Gold Charlotte. This limited edition Bloomington Gold will host judging, a Gold Collection, Corvette vendors and more! More details on this event can be found later in the REView. For 2018, Bloomington Gold will return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway June 21-23rd for another weekend of Corvettes, Fun and Speed! Continuing in the tradition of 25 years of Bloomington Gold Special Collection events, each Gold Collection showcases a special group of Corvettes. As we return to Charlotte you will see 20 special performance Corvettes, each representing the highest horsepower offered for their model: • the introduction of the V8 • the first “Big Block” installed in a Corvette • the famous Rochester RamJet Fuel Injection models • the legendary L88 • the LT engine series • the extreme performance Z06 • and the super-tuner Callaway Corvette. These top performers will show you why Corvette is “America’s Only Sports Car!”. RAIN, RAIN GO AWAY! BLOOMINGTON GOLD CERTIFICATION AND THE GREAT MONSOON, A 2017 JUDGING RECAP What happens when rain threatens the Granddaddy of Corvette Show’s prestigious judging process? For those of you that attended Bloomington Gold on Friday this year, the one thing you will remember is the rain on Friday. It didn’t rain here and there throughout the day. It literally rained ALL DAY LONG. At about 9:00 am it started to fall and didn’t stop until nearly 4:00pm. Unfortunately it happens, and being an outdoor event, Bloomington Gold does have alternative plans for judging. As the rain continued to fall, alternative options for handing the judging in the rain were discussed including moving judging to Saturday and even moving the certification field to the garages. While good on paper, both of these options offered a number of challenges that in practice just wouldn’t work. As a result, judges were instructed to judge using a Short List; randomly selected components from the full judging list. At the end of the day and two inches or rain later, all 125 cars registered for judging were successfully judged. The Certification Director and Division Directors are discussing additional conditions and procedures to be considered /implemented in future years.
