The 2015 Bloomington Gold Corvette Show marks 43 years of bringing Corvette Enthusiasts together and this year it will be at the most exciting venue in our history, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway! This year, let yourself get caught up in the excitement of the Bloomington Gold Judging process…. Witness some of the most beautiful Corvettes in the country being judged by some of the best Corvette Judges in the sport. The process begins on Thursday, June 26th as the Survivor Corvettes do their road test in the morning on the Speedway’s oval track. Later that afternoon, Certification Corvettes will parade into their precise judging spots. Make sure you stop by the Judging Plaza on Friday, June 26th for Gold Certification Judging and Saturday June 27th for Survivor Judging. This is a sight to behold! Pristine Corvettes, grouped by year, all lined up just waiting to be judged. Teams of Judges in their pristine white shirts on Friday and their crisp red shirts on Saturday, huddled around a Corvette, carefully going over tags, vins, engine compartments, chassis, body & wheels,

interior. Owners spend the weekend anxiously watching and waiting. Once the judging sheets are finally signed off by both a car’s owners and judges, they are whisked off to the tabulation room where the scores are tallied. You don’t want to miss the Awards Ceremony on Saturday afternoon to see which Bloomington Gold Certificate your favorite Corvette received… did it receive the coveted Benchmark Award? Or, was it a stunning Survivor Gold? This year, come see where the action is…The Judging Plaza!

MOBILE EXPERIENCE Mecum Auctions has always strived to bring the collector car auction experience to as many enthusiasts as possible, and this April 9-11, Mecum will debut its newest method of delivery: The Mecum Mobile Experience. Set to also be present at the 2015 Bloomington Gold Corvettes USA event, the semi-sized truck is a simplified and condensed version of the live auction experience, packaged neatly and put on wheels so the experience can easily travel to all corners of the country and bring the experience to you.

Staffed with Mecum employees, the mobile experience will make appearances at car and motorsports events across the country. The truck will bring with it an interactive display in which visitors are encouraged to take advantage of photo ops from the Mecum Auction podium and also check out special vehicles presented for viewing. NBC Sports Network auction coverage will be broadcast to the truck’s built-in television screens for interested visitors, and kiosks will be available for those who wish to sign up for Mecum’s exclusive and complimentary InfoNet service, allowing members access to live gavel-to-gavel auction coverage at Mecum.com as well as auction results including sold prices and high bids on past offerings, and more. From its debut in Houston, the traveling truck will make its way to Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee for the NASCAR Food City 500. An extended stay in Indianapolis will follow for events leading up to the Indy 500 as well as Dana Mecum’s 28th annual Original Spring Classic auction May 12-17, and also for an appearance at the Indy 500 race itself. Just a month after the Indy 500, the Mecum Truck will be back in Indianapolis again to bring a taste of the Mecum Experience to the Corvette enthusiast event of the year, Bloomington Gold! Select Corvettes to be offered at upcoming Mecum auctions will be on display, and live auction coverage of Mecum’s newest auction in Denver featuring 700 classic and collector cars will be broadcast to the truck’s television screens. Take a few moments while enjoying the beautiful Corvette displays at Bloomington Gold to visit the Mecum Mobile Experience and get a taste of the live auctionaction. In between judging and driving events, or while browsing the other vendor displays, the Mecum truck will be happy to host you and provide an experience you won’t want to miss.

So, just where does all this “500” thing come from and what is so special about that distance? That is a very good question for which there may not be a definitive answer, but we will respectfully suggest that “the magic” of it all started right here at IMS in 1911. We are not aware of any automobile race in the world having been previously scheduled for precisely 500 miles until then. The original partnership of Carl Fisher, Jim Allison, Frank Wheeler and Arthur Newby could not possibly have imagined what far-reaching effects would result from their early-September 1910 discussions on how to reverse the drop-off in crowds that had been taking place at the track during that summer. Their typical programs had been two- and three-day meets consisting of several short events each day for passenger-based vehicles, followed by a longer race to wind up each day’s proceedings. After generally healthy crowds for the three-day program at the end of May, the figures for the three-day July 4 holiday meet and the two-day affair over Labor Day weekend had fallen off dramatically. Following plenty of discussion as to what to do for 1911, it was decided to try one marathon race, which would last for approximately the duration of the typical six- and eight-event programs of 1909 and 1910. The 1911 Indianapolis 500 was an experiment — not until later was it a tradition. Contemplating something that would begin at 10 a.m. and be concluded by late afternoon or early evening, it was determined that a distance of 500 miles could conceivably be covered during that time. And so it was! Held pretty much as an experiment on May 30, 1911, the inaugural Indianapolis 500 was, of course, a massive success! Select Corvettes will be placed on display with Gold Certified cars as the centerpiece of the corral. Bloomington Gold is excited to take part and will set up a lounge area amidst the cars, which will allow for Bloomington Gold staff to discuss the certification process as well as a specific Corvetteâ€™s certification history with potential buyers at the auction.
