Stay Safe in Extreme Heat this summer Extreme heat days are becoming more frequent and intense. To keep you and your loved ones safe, it’s important to prepare early.
Take steps to protect yourself and others by keeping cool, staying hydrated, planning ahead and checking in with others. Recognising early symptoms of heatrelated health problems and taking action is crucial.
Those more at-risk include people over the age of 65, babies and young children, pregnant women, people with acute or chronic health problems and people who are socially isolated.
Survive the heat this summer with these cool tips:
Heat can cause serious and potentially fatal health problems such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke, trigger sudden events like heart attack or stroke, or worsen existing medical conditions like kidney or lung disease.

Always have a plan to stay cool.

Check in with family, friends, neighbours and pets.
•
Stay up to date with weather forecasts in your area.

Expressions of Interest (EOI) are now open for Golden Plains Shire Council’s 2026 Golden Spaces Winter Exhibition.
Golden Spaces is a free, community-based program offering group art exhibitions across three locations: The Bannockburn Cultural Centre, The Well at Smythesdale and the Golden Plains Civic Centre. This exciting initiative celebrates and promotes the talent of artists from across the Shire and surrounding regions, increases access to the arts for the community within a local setting, and provides professional development opportunities for both emerging and established artists. The 2026 Winter Exhibition marks the sixth exhibition in the series. The 2025 Winter Exhibition is currently on display at The Well in Smythesdale and the 2025 Summer Exhibition is now on display at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre. This year, Council has again brought forward the community engagement process to enable the consideration of community feedback to inform the development of the 2026/27 Budget. You can lodge a budget submission and complete the online survey at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations.
