Feedback Sought on Draft Community Asset Policy Golden Plains Shire Council endorsed the Draft Community Asset Policy (the Draft Policy) for a period of public exhibition at its Council meeting on Tuesday 24 February. The Draft Policy provides improved understanding and accountability for community owned assets in relation to: • Approval processes/requirements for installations • Current and future cost implications • Maintenance responsibilities • Public safety and amenity
The Draft Policy outlines how community-owned assets can be installed on Council-owned or managed land and facilities. These assets are usually created through community-led or volunteer projects and often include things like public art, memorials, and other pieces of community infrastructure. Feedback on the Draft Policy is invited until 5pm, Monday 30 March 2026 and can be completed at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations.
Renew Your Furry Friends Registration for 2026
Local pet owners have begun to receive their annual animal registration notice.
Under the Victorian Government’s Domestic Animals Act 1994, all dogs and cats over the age of three months must be registered by 10 April. Microchipping and registration are two different processes, and both play a vital role in getting lost pets home safely. When your pet is registered with Golden Plains Shire Council, officers can match their microchip to your details quickly, avoiding shelter fees and ensuring a free first ride home.
Registration fees also support important community services, including investigations into dog attacks, nuisance complaints, and animal welfare concerns. These services help keep both pets and the community safe. To renew your pet’s registration for 2026, simply follow the instructions on your mailed notice and pay using BPAY, Australia Post Billpay, or Council's website: goldenplains.vic.gov.au.

Come Along to the Sport & Rec Fest This Weekend!
The second Active Golden Plains Sport & Rec Fest will be held this Saturday 14 March from 10am to 1pm at the Recreation Precinct Soccer Pavilion in Bannockburn. Community members are encouraged to come along and try out a range of activities – from football, golf, bowls, and tennis, to dance, gyms, fishing groups, BMX and basketball.
