Free E-Waste Drop Off Events a First for Golden Plains
Golden Plains Shire Council is hosting two free E‑Waste Collection Days for residents to safely dispose of old or unwanted electronic items. Recycling e‑waste keeps harmful materials out of landfill and supports a circular economy by turning components like plastic, glass, metal and circuit boards into new products. If you’ve been holding onto items with a plug, battery or power cord, this is a great chance to clear them out and keep them out of landfill.
Event Dates
• Saturday 30 May, 9am to 1pm, Russell Street, Meredith
• Saturday 6 June, 9am to 1pm, Golden Plains Civic Centre (Bannockburn Family Services Centre car park)
Accepted Items
Small household appliances, TVs, computers, laptops, tablets, accessories, hard drives, scanners, printers and much more.
Not Accepted
Whitegoods, smoke detectors, CDs/DVDs and large batteries. These can be taken to the Rokewood Transfer Station.
Council encourages residents to participate to help reduce waste and protect the environment.

Golden plains Careers Expo Returns This June
The Golden Plains Careers Expo is fast approaching, with residents and visitors invited to attend the Expo on Thursday 4 June from 10am to 5pm at the YMCA in Bannockburn.
The Expo will bring together industry leaders, education providers and local employers to showcase a wide range of career and training opportunities. Community members of all ages can explore potential pathways, learn about emerging industries, and gain practical advice to support their employment goals.
Representatives from sectors including education and
training, emergency services, the Australian Defence Force, local government, agriculture and more will be available throughout the day to answer questions and share insights.

Celebrate National Reconciliation Week with Special Story Time Sessions
Golden Plains Shire Council, in partnership with Geelong Regional Library Corporation, invites families to take part in two special Story Time sessions in recognition of National Reconciliation Week.
These sessions will share meaningful stories that highlight First Nations voices, culture and connection through engaging children’s books.
• Friday 29 May, 10.30 to 11.30am, The Well, Smythesdale
• Wednesday 3 June, 10.30 to 11.30am, Bannockburn Library

Golden Plains Residents Invited to Join the Beyond Age Project
Golden Plains Shire Council, together with Seniors Rights Victoria, is inviting residents aged 50 and over to take part in the Beyond Age Project, a creative storytelling and portrait workshop being held on Monday 15 June from 10am to 1pm at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre.
The project encourages participants to reflect on their experiences of ageing and challenge ageism in the community.
Attendees are asked to bring a photo from their 20s, 30s or 40s to help explore the question: “What would you tell your younger self about getting older?” A new portrait will also be taken on the day. Lunch and entertainment are included. Bookings are essential.
