If July felt a little quieter around the club, that's because historically it usually is - and this year was no exception. But don't get too comfortable... we're heading into August at GT3 speeds!
Our calendar is about to fill up with some fantastic driving tours, social gatherings, and club events. This month alone, members can enjoy a multi-day Route 66 driving tour through Arizona or take their Macan or Cayenne off the pavement on an off -road adventure to Castle Hot Springs. If you haven't looked recently, take a few minutes to browse the AZPCA calendar on our website- you might just find your next favorite event.
One event I especially encourage you to mark on your calendar is our Anthem Country Club Brunch, Car Show & Social on September 5. Year after year, this has become one of our most popular gatherings, typically attracting around 100 Porsches and nearly 200 members. It's a beautiful venue, the brunch buffet is outstanding, and it's one of the best opportunities of the year to reconnect with old friends, meet new ones, and admire an incredible variety of cars. If you've never attended before, this is definitely one you won't want to miss.
I also have some exciting news to share. Our AZPCA website was entered into the PCA National Website Competition, and I'm proud to announce that we earned 3rd Place in our division. That's an outstanding accomplishment considering we're competing against s ome of the largest PCA regions in the country. Congratulations and a big thank you to our webmasters, Gregg Bookspan and Mike Ferrings, whose dedication and creativity continue to make our website one of the very best in PCA.
As we head into one of the busiest stretches of the year, I encourage you to enjoy your vehicle, sign up for an event or few, and spend some time with your fellow members. Whether you're enjoying the scenic mountain roads, off roading your SUV, or enjoying breakfast with friends, these are the experiences that make AZPCA one of the best car clubs around.

As we enter the mid-point of summer the roads become a mixed blessing, the snowbirds have left for cooler climates so the roads are quieter in the morning but the RV’s, caravans and trucks transporting their boats have come out of the woodwork, drivers beware.
The month of July has come and gone but our AZPCA members still had their fair share of fun activities to choose from and August is shaping up to be just as entertaining.

EXECUTIVE APPOINTED POSITIONS
The Arizona Region Board of Directors are still looking for members to volunteer to become part of the Team in filling the four appointed positions listed below:

Equipment Chair – Responsibilities: Coordinate with different event Chairs to ensure that equipment is available to event coordinators and that each Region item is correctly catalogued and stored correctly. This person will also facilitate delivery and/or pickup to club functions using various methods available.
Technical Advisor – Responsibilities: Provide technical expertise to the Region members regarding routine Porsche maintenance and fielding questions regarding the various vehicle system and components. Provide assistance to the Tech Session Coordinator with the planning and scheduling of the tech sessions. Contribute to Going Places Newsletter with monthly tech articles.
Road Rally Chair – Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate, and/or select a Rally Event Chair to facilitate Road Rallies for the Club members to enjoy in a safe & friendly competition environment driving the Porsche car on the public highways within the scope of all Arizona Revised Statutes. The road rally category type will be at the discretion of the rally chair from a Gimmick Rally to a Navigational Rally, pursuant to the National PCA Region Procedures Manual (RPM).
PCA Juniors Program Coordinator – Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate, promote and facilitate the activities for the PCA Junior members to participate in the Club social activities, pursuant to the National PCA RPM.

Steve Sapareto, Candidate for President
I am a semi-retired Medical Physicist and have been active in the PCA for over 30 years. I have been President of the Southern Arizona Region and twice President of the Arizona Region and been on the Board of Directors as a Director at Large. I have been an editor of Going Places and have organized Flight twice. I have been an instructor for DE including setting up our first classroom program for DE. I have organized many tours over the years including Hot Air Tours to New Mexico and Off-Road tours. I currently own six Porsches (but only 4 are running). I believe my historic experience would be of benefit to the club and would be honored to serve again. My primary goal as President would be to continue to provide more opportunities for all members to participate in as many events as possible.

Bill Stubbs - Candidate for AZPCA Vice President, 2027 -2029
Hello friends, I am honored to run for Vice -President, Arizona Region, Porsche Club of America (AZPCA) for the 2027-2029 term.
I have been an AZPCA member for more than four years. After my first year, I was appointed Assistant Registrar for Motorsports events, providing valuable insight into Board operations while allowing me to meet many of our members.
I also served as the event coordinator’s right-hand man for the All Porsche Grand Display, helping automate operations and coordinate with the Town of Carefree. In 2025, I was appointed Concours Chairman, where Flight 47 attracted 92 cars and was successfu lly completed on budget, and am now Flight 48 Concours Chair.
Professionally, I am retired, but continue consulting in the semiconductor industry. As a Mechanical and Software Professional Engineer educated at Cal Poly –San Luis Obispo, my career has spanned petroleum, aerospace, industrial, and semiconductor industries, including serving as Global Product Manager for ultra-high-purity gas distribution systems used worldwide.
Personally, I have been passionate about cars since my teenage years, owning, building, and restoring everything from muscle cars and motorcycles to off -road vehicles, sports cars, and boats. If it has an engine, I've probably worked on it.
I believe AZPCA's future is bright. My priorities are attracting younger enthusiasts, embracing technology, expanding the events members enjoy, and continuing to strengthen our outstanding driving tours, DE, AX, Concours, Anthem Porsche & Pancakes, Holiday Party, and Ladies’ Events.
My philosophy is simple: AZPCA exists for its members. Our resources should deliver the greatest possible value, exceptional experiences, and responsible stewardship of every club dollar.

Steve Jackson – Director at Large Candidate
I am very interested in running for the Arizona Region Porsche Club of America (AZPCA ) Directorat-Large term position on the Board. Having been an active member of the region since 2015, I am eager to transition my passion for the marque into a structured leadership role that serves our general membership.
The role of a Director-at-Large demands adaptability, collaboration, and a willingness to spearhead special projects that support the club's evolving needs. My unique background perfectly aligns with this mandate. On the track and road, my garage reflects the full spectrum of our club's enthusiast base spanning the daily-driver utility of my Macan GTS to the pure high-performance dynamics of my 911 Carrera and Turbo S platforms.
Professionally, I bring 35 years of executive experience as the owner and operator of a long -term care facility in Washington State. Managing every aspect of that business taught me how to navigate complex regulatory compliance, oversee substantial budgets, mitigate risk, and lead diverse teams. This deep operational blueprint allows me to offer the AZPCA Board immediate capability when vetting vendor contracts, optimizing regional event budgets, and ensuring risk-management protocols are flawlessly executed.
I am fully prepared to dedicate my time, strategic perspective, and business acumen to maintaining the high operational standards of Zone 8. Thank you for your time, consideration, and ongoing dedication to our region.

2027 AZPCA BOD Election Candidates
An old African Proverb says… “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” The suggestion here is to go together so we go far. However, if you are like me sometimes you want to go fast (e g Track Day) and sometimes you want to go far (e.g. Tour Drives) Both are fun and, in this club, you can pick one or the other… or both! That is what I love about the AZPCA and the fact that we get to share our enthusiasm for these beautiful cars and make new friends.
A little about my background… I grew up back East (primarily PA) and always loved cars. While in school I had a picture of a red 911 Turbo over my desk as motivation to work hard! I attended Lehigh University on a Wrestling scholarship and graduated with a degree in Marketing. I spent the next 44 years in the Building Materials business where I held several leadership positions in Sales and Marketing. I recently retired and enjoying staying active including PCA events, golf, travel, and volunteering. I joined the AZPCA in December of 2024 and my wife Trina and I try to attend as many events as possible. I currently drive a Dark Blue Metallic 2015 Boxster S and already thinking about my next Porsche.
As for the Director-At-Large position, I believe my background in Sales & Marketing together with my creative and organizational skills would serve the club well. I appreciate your support and let’s keep making the club better and stronger!

I am pleased to announce my candidacy for the position of Director -at-Large.
Since joining AZPCA in 2022, I have enjoyed being part of a community that shares a passion for Porsche, driving, motorsports, and the friendships that develop through our club activities. The experiences I've had with fellow members have inspired me to gi ve back by serving on the Board.
My Porsche journey has included ownership of a 2021 Gentian Blue 911 Carrera 4S Manual, a 2022 Guards Red 911 Carrera GTS, a 2025 Metallic Volcano grey Macan GTS, and my current 2023 Racing Yellow 911 Carrera GTS, which I have personalized with performance and appearance modifications. Through these vehicles and club events, I have developed an even greater appreciation for the enthusiasm, knowledge, and camaraderie that make our club exceptional.
Professionally, I served as Chief Operating Officer of Southwest Automated Security, a successful wholesale distributor specializing in access control, CCTV, perimeter security, and gate operators. I retired in 2021 and currently serve as a member of the company's Board of Directors, where I help guide strategic planning, operations, and long-term growth. These experiences have strengthened my leadership, decision-making, and collaborative skills qualities I would bring to the Director-at-Large position.
My passion for motorsports extends beyond Porsche ownership. For more than 12 years, I served as a course observer for CART, INDYCAR, IRL, SCCA, and IMSA events at Phoenix International Raceway, and numerous racetracks continentally and Internationally, ga ining firsthand experience with the dedication, teamwork, and attention to detail required to support world -class racing events.
As Director-at-Large, I will work to represent the interests of all members, encourage participation in club events, support new member engagement, and help ensure that AZPCA continues to grow and thrive. I am committed to listening to members, fostering a n inclusive and welcoming environment, and supporting the Board in delivering outstanding experiences for Porsche enthusiasts throughout Arizona.

Ever since Mark Baker brought me to my first monthly meeting in 2018, I have been continually impressed with the active, welcoming, and engaging nature of this club. We have incredibly dedicated volunteers, and the sense of community and enthusiasm among our members is truly something special.
I believe that the more we become involved in leading and supporting events, the more rewarding our experience becomes. It has been a joy to help create and administer memorable gatherings for our members, and I especially value the opportunity to encourage and welcome new members into active participation.
My 45 years in independent school education provided many opportunities to take on leadership roles and serve on regional and national governing boards. In addition, I have spent ten years volunteering with Bob’s Free Bikes, reinforcing my commitment to supporting charitable efforts whenever possible.
I have greatly enjoyed assisting in the organization of club events, and I hope that my experience, energy, and perspective will make a meaningful contribution to the Board.

Here’s what you need to know! We are using an on-line voting app, “Election Runner”.
On September 20th, the candidates, along with their bios and pictures will be posted on our AZPCA website and an e-Blast email with the candidates, bios and pictures will also be sent to the membership.
Voting will officially open on October 19th and end on October 30th
The “Election Runner’ app will send all active AZPCA members an email from: noreply@electionrunner.com and subject: “Your Invitation to Vote in the Election: 202 7 AZPCA Board of Directors Ballot”
There will be a “Click here to Vote” button at the bottom of your email message. When you click on the button, it will take you directly to the ballot to vote.

Upcoming AZPCA Driving Tours
Driving Tour is a relaxing drive in your Porsche, to an interesting destination in and around the Phoenix metro area, and sometimes to further destinations around the state and beyond. Our drives typically feature beautiful scenery and great Porsche driving roads. Driving Tours are non-competitive events, meant to provide enjoyment with your car in the company of other Porsche owners sharing an interesting experience.
The Arizona Region offers many driving tours throughout the year. The list below shows tours planned for the upcoming months. Please note that dates and other details are subject to change. Check the website events calendar for the most up-todate schedule.
August 20 — Castle Hot Springs Off-Road Driving Tour
The Castle Hot Springs Resort was established in 1896 and is a historical icon, nestled in a rugged and remote desert location. Let’s Get Dirty! – For 36 Miles, the trail traverses through the Bradshaw Mountains with breathtaking picturesque views. The tour will take less than 3 hours, and will conclude at Dillon’s BBQ at the Western Trails Ranch in Morristown.
September 11 — Weekend Getaway to Tubac
and Kitt Peak
A relaxing weekend getaway to Tubac, AZ with exciting drives, sightseeing, optional golf, and great food. We’re staying two nights at the historic Tubac Golf Resort & Spa, arriving Friday afternoon for a group dinner. Saturday there are several options, including an organized drive, a casual golf tournament, or sightseeing, shopping, and wine tasting on your own. Or just relax and enjoy the resort facilities. Sunday we’ll take the very twisty and well-maintained mountain road to Kitt Peak National Observatory to enjoy spectacular views, a one-hour tour of the observatory, and lunch.

Review - AZPCA Diamondbacks Annual Outing
AZPCA 12th Annual Day at the Diamondbacks vs FIFA World Cup Finals

Who knew months ago when we booked the Dbacks vs the Cardinals for Sunday July 19th, that the FIFA Finals would be at the exact same time! Two dozen AZPCA member choose wisely (and hopefully also recorded the FIFA game Spain vs Argentina to watch later!
Our lively group trickled in upstairs on the Diamond Level around noon to grab a cold one at the old Audi Quattro Lounge, which of course is not called that anymore But everyone did find the venue and we had a great time socializing with old and new friends. We had a group from Tucson/So AZ Region, Sedona, and lots of places around the Valley. Most people wore Dbacks or Red Porsche shirts, but Mark Shevitz arrived sporting a very nice STL Cardinals jersey. I’m from St. Louis too, so we had fun laughing a bout stories from our hometown.
Review - AZPCA Diamondbacks Annual Outing
Our group seats were on the Diamond Level, to the right of 1st base, and everyone settled in for the singing of the National Anthem. Rook and Bill S sat behind us and drove together , which was good, since this was Bill’s first time at the Ballpark. Rook knows pretty much everything about baseball, and every inch of Chase Field having given tours there for many years. It was fun to listen to the questions and answers from these two. And yes there was talk about what everyone drove and what was their first love or their next love would be of a Porsche.
I really get into watching baseball games, amid drinks and flying peanut shells, because I like all the technical stuff on the big screen. But the Cards took an early lead and by the 5th inning, we were down 7-0. Luckily the family in front of me was live streaming the FIFA game, but as far as I could tell, no one was scoring. A few members looked around and bid their farewells, and I was getting The Look that maybe we should cut our losses and leave. But then the crowd, which was sparse due to the FIFA game, started getting into the clapping and shouting with Bobby Freeman on the organ and the DJ that afternoon. The Dbacks suddenly came alive and started hitting runs and then a few homeruns, and by the end of the 8th inning we had tied the Cards 7-7!
I don’t know what happened, but suddenly, we were into extra innings, and the crowd was going nuts. The FIFA game apparently was in a similar situation too, and eventually they announced who scored the winning goal. So now all eyes were on the Dbacks, and in the bottom of the 10 th inning, we scored the winning run, winning 8-7!
I’m glad we could provide a great first experience for Bill S’s first game at the Ballpark, and I felt bad for Mark S that his Cards lost, but all in all, it was an unforgettable evening out with a great group of friends. Thanks everyone for coming out in the middle of intense July heat to watch our beloved Dbacks! So until next summer, Go Batter Batter Batter Batter…..Saaaa -Wing!

Weekend Getaway to Tubac and Kitt Peak – Drives, Sightseeing, Optional Golf
September 11-13, 2026
Join us for a relaxing weekend getaway to Tubac, AZ, a Spanish presidio town, where we will enjoy exciting drives, sightseeing, optional golf, and great food. We are staying two nights at the historic Tubac Golf Resort & Spa in classic southwestern style casitas. Tubac offers great sightseeing, including the oldest mission in Arizona, Tumacácori, Tubac Presidio State Historic Park, great restaurants, wine tasting, and the vibrant art scene of old Tubac. We will meet in the Southeast Valley on Friday and take the scenic route through Florence to Tucson, where we will stop for a lunch buffet at the Culinary Dropout before we continue south to Tubac. Upon arrival and check in we gather for dinner at the Stables Ranch Grill on the patio, overlooking the resort golf course.
On Saturday there are several options to choose from, including an organized drive, a casual golf tournament, or sightseeing, shopping, and wine tasting on your own. Or just relax and enjoy the resort facilities.
Sunday’s destination is Kitt Peak National Observatory. We will start towards the Buenos Aires Wildlife Refuge and take very twisty and well-maintained mountain road to Kitt Peak National Observatory to enjoy spectacular views, a one-hour tour of the observatory, and a lunch at the observatory picnic area.

$99 for the event - there is no on site registration. If you wish to have someone, who is not an entrant, over 18 years old and who is an immediate household member, as a passenger for a taste of autox please pre-register and pay the $10 fee.
Drivers can invite guests only during pre-registration who must complete all waivers, but cannot be a passenger. Gates open at 7:00 am. First car out at 8:30 am. Rental helmets can be reserved during the online registration process. Sorry but no go-karts, Polaris type, formula or other exoskeleton vehicles permitted.

Autocross is the sport of trying to navigate your car through a defined course of pylons usually on a large parking lot, faster than your competition.
Autocross courses are set up using soft orange traffic pylon cones (which will not damage your car) and events are run at speeds usually between 40 -65 MPH, usually all in 2nd gear. Autocross is a “performance driving event” and a safe way to learn how to drive your car at its limits. You not only learn how to handle your car at speeds that you drive daily, but you also: Gain confidence in your driving ability. Learn the limits of your car’s brakes. Learn correct seating, hand, and feet positions. Learn the limits of your car’s tire adhesion. Most importantly, autocross is a social gathering of friends with a common interest and is simply a ton of fun!
Your family is welcome and there are usually plenty of people to socialize with.
Be prepared for big fun.
HPDE - DRIVING YOUR PORSCHE ON THE TRACK
Expand your car control skills and explore the capabilities of your Porsche on a racetrack in a safe, controlled environment with no speed limits! AZPCA’s HPDE & TT program (that’s short for High Performance Driver Education and Time Trials) is all about experiencing your Porsche on a road circuit. AZPCA provides personal driving instructors for new participants to guide them through the day. Our instructors will navigate you along the road circuit, teach you the fundamentals of driving at track speeds, but also keep you in a comfort zone so you have a good time. There are flaggers on track, just like at a real racing event. The club also arranges an ambulance and tow truck on site for emergencies.
For the HPDE events, four groups of approximately 10-25 drivers are formed based on experience levelBeginner, Intermediate, Experienced, Advanced. Grouping allows everyone attending to have a good time. Beginners don’t have to stress about having little/no experience- chances are, there are several other drivers in the same group just starting out.
Based on instructor evaluation, you are advanced to the next group up when appropriate. Sometimes this is after one day, or sometimes it takes a several events. Higher run groups typically mean more speed but with a better, practiced skill set to control the speed safely. This keeps track days exciting for you as you advance your skill set.
While this is definitely NOT racing, there is a natural tendency to evaluate yourself to other drivers in your group, but HPDE is not structured to award “fast” times. To satisfy the competitive nature in you, we offer options for all levels of expertise.

The Castle Hot Springs Resort was established in 1896 and is a historical icon, nestled in a rugged and remote desert location. Boasting a colorful history, yet untouched for nearly 40 years, this natural gem in the Bradshaw Mountains continued to produce restorative thermal waters.
Let’s Get Dirty! – There are no plans in stopping at this historic resort. For 36 Miles, the trail traverses through the Bradshaw Mountains with breath taking picturesque views. The Tour will conclude at Dillon’s BBQ at the Western Trails Ranch in Morristown. The tour will take less than 3 hours. Each member will be on their own and will order off the menu.

Arizona Region is planning for other Off-Road Driving Tours this year with plans to do Four Peaks possibly in May/June, and later this year, Castle Hot Springs and tentatively Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. Porsches & Pancakes Finds a Hidden Gem in Anthem
On Saturday, July 25, Porsche Club of America Arizona Region members gathered for a memorable edition of Porsches & Pancakes, trading the traditional breakfast venue for one of the Valley’s best-kept secrets The Bearded Barber Speakeasy in Anthem.
Hidden behind a working barbershop, the private speakeasy provided a unique setting for an event that combined great cars, great food, and even better company. Reserved exclusively for PCA Arizona Region members, the venue welcomed attendees with a touch o f Prohibition-era charm, complete with a secret password for entry.
Members enjoyed a specially prepared brunch menu created exclusively for the club, with fresh coffee and optional craft cocktails available throughout the gathering. The relaxed atmosphere encouraged plenty of conversation as old friends reconnected and new friendships were formed over shared enthusiasm for Porsche automobiles.

Adding to the ambiance was live entertainment by noted musician Allen Fenske, whose performance provided the perfect soundtrack for the afternoon. Outside, a casual display of member Porsches offered plenty of opportunities to admire an impressive variety of models while discussing favorite drives, recent adventures, and future club events.
Events like Porsches & Pancakes continue to showcase what makes the PCA Arizona Region so special: bringing together people who share a passion for exceptional automobiles while creating opportunities to experience unique venues throughout Arizona. From th e hidden entrance to the welcoming atmosphere inside, this Speakeasy Brunch Edition proved to be a fun and memorable twist on one of the club’s favorite social gatherings.

No Porsche Left Behind - A Sweep’s Perspective on Driving Tours
PCA driving tours are one of my favorite things to do, and they’re even more fun when I get to be the “sweep” (aka sweeper or tail) for a drive. The view of all the beautiful cars from the “back of the pack” and the occasional challenge of helping a fellow club member solve an issue during the drive has turned out to be my thing!
Recently, I’ve had a few conversations with members who have been a bit hesitant about going on a PCA driving tour due to worries like, “What if I don’t want to drive really fast?” and “What if my car has mechanical issues during the drive?” So, to put those worries to rest, here’s a brief overview of what a driving tour is, and what it is not:
1. It’s not a race - it’s a scenic drive and you drive at a pace that you’re comfortable with.
2. If you have an issue and need to pull over, you will not be abandoned. The sweep will be there for you. The club has a few folks besides me who enjoy being sweep, and they are all excellent at it.
3. It is one of the best ways to get your Porsche out on the road with fellow enthusiasts, drive a fun route that was planned for maximum enjoyment, and have a nice meal at the end.
4. Routes are planned to include “bio breaks” at appropriate intervals, with stops at places with restrooms. Longer drives are also planned with refueling at gas stations in mind.
The safest, most organized drives that my husband Adrian and I have ever been on are PCA drives. If the group is large, it is split into two driving groups. Each group has a lead driver, and a sweep.
The lead driver’s job, besides leading everyone else (and sometimes organizing the drive), is to go over the rules of the road at the driver’s meeting. This is held right before the drive’s start. One of the points made during the meeting is that everyone drives at the pace they are comfortable with. Printed turn-by-turn directions are also handed out to each driver. Lead and sweep drivers communicate throughout the drive to make sure everyone’s staying on track.
The sweep’s job is to make sure that everyone stays ahead of them, and to let the lead know if the back of the pack needs to catch up should we get stuck at a light, or behind a slow-moving vehicle. The sweep also makes sure that anyone who has to pull over during the drive, for a mechanical or any other issue, has a plan to address the situation. If you’re more comfortable going at a leisurely pace, don’t worry - the sweep car will always be the last in line.
So there you have it - a PCA drive is one of the nicest ways to get out with your Porsche and see the sights, enjoy the company of your fellow club members, and maybe learn about a new, fun road to enjoy again another day. I’ll be right behind you…

AZPCA Region Event Cancelation Policies & Event Organizer Responsibilities
Event Cancellation Policy
Most of our events have attendance limits, and they fill up quickly. Also, we often have waiting lists for those wishing to attend but do not have a secured attendance spot. Increasingly, attendees sign up and simply do not show up for the event without canceling in advance. This behavior impacts the event registrar/organizer, the event facility, and those on the waiting list wanting to attend but cannot. This behavior demonstrates a lack of common courtesy, requiring it to be addressed proactively. On the first occurrence a warning will be issued, and on the second occurrence privileges to attend future events may be impacted. Also, any registration fees for paid events will be forfeited without recourse since the club is charged regardless. The cancelation policy requires cancelation of your registration on MSR for paid or unpaid events a minimum of 7 days prior to the event date, unless there are serious and extenuating emergency circumstances as assessed by the event registrar/organizer. Most importantly, please be courteous to your fellow members so that everyone has an opportunity to enjoy events.
Event Organizer Responsibilities
Event organizers are required to send out a reminder approximately 9 days in advance of any event reminding registrants of the event and summarizing their responsibilities by including the following language:
Thank you for your RSVP. Please note that whether or not there is a registration fee for this event, the restaurant is expecting a certain number of attendees we provide to them in advance and incur cost accordingly If you need to cancel please do so at least one week prior to the event date (being a no-show without notice is rude to other members who wish to attend, the restaurant and to the event organizer). Additionally, if there is a fee or prepayment associated with the event, it will be forfeited if cancelled less than 7 days before the event. Thank you!”
Additionally, event organizers are requested to send out a reminder two or three days prior to the event simply as a courtesy to remind those attending.
IMPORTANT AZPCA Information
Reimbursement & Stipend Policy for AZPCA HPDE Events:
1. Reimbursement is provided to 5 key workers / volunteers for actual round-trip fuel cost (upon providing receipts), and if applicable, $120/night stipend for lodging/ incidentals. If it is not an overnight event and/or a requirement, then spend is reduced to $40. Key workers are volunteers that are attending the event solely to work the event but not participate in the event. Examples could be: Grid worker(s), Safety inspector(s), Timing and Scoring Chair, Safety Chair, Event Chair, CDI. Excludes: Corner workers/flaggers.
2. A corner worker/flagger is offered a $100 stipend or a $175 MSR credit for a future HPDE event, by choice of the flagger.
3. Other non-critical volunteer positions are provided a lunch (lunch will either paid for individually or provided as part of event to all participants).
4. The Event Organizer is reimbursed for fuel costs related to event planning/execution and round-trip fuel cost (upon providing receipts and log).
5. Continue to offer discounted registration fees for approved AZPCA Instructors.

I used to visit my local bookstores on a regular basis. To hang out, scan the titles, skim the magazines.
Oh, the magazines. Sometimes, if I had the time, I’d pluck a pile of Brit car magazines off the rack, sit back with my coffee and lose myself for several hours of bliss, as our petrolhead cousins from across the pond would send me on crazy excursions, in ve hicles we could only dream about, to places we’d give our right arm to visit, on roads we’d covet. Border’s, Barnes & Noble, they housed my dreamland.
As for books, it was a different story. I’d roam the aisles to find “Sport” and I’d find three, maybe four, titles … on NASCAR greats, maybe a bio of Schumacher, not much more. “Transportation” was much more problematic. First, you had to find the section, and it was always tucked away, near the restrooms, next to “Philosophy” and “Self Help.” Then you were graced with, again, three or four titles on the greatest sports cars in the history of the universe, Camaro legends through the years, that kind of thing.
When Border’s went under, my choice of hang shrunk mightily. Although I did watch as Barnes & Noble reinvented itself with toys and kids’ books and lots and lots of pop fiction. And the magazine racks - they did stay put, thank God.
These days, a visit is not necessarily part of my weekly routine. I read books, basically anything I want, on Kindle. I get daily updates on all things automotive, and racing, in my e-mail. From a slew of sources. It’s not the same, but I’m not complai ning about the barrage of information, more than I could possibly process in many lifetimes.
So … just last week, I decided to drop by my local Barnes & Noble. It had been a while. Upon entering, I let out a deep sigh, because, just to my left, all the magazine racks were still there. And so were the travel books, and the photography books, and the how-to books. What about car stuff, I wondered. Let’s find out!
So, I rounded a corner and there was “Sports.” Ok, I thought, that was a good start. Now, where would “my” sports stuff be? Under automotive? Racing? Cars? Motor? F1? NASCAR?
Uh, no. It took, like, a split second to locate. Right there, smack dab in the middle, jumping out at my sore eyes … rows … rows … of car books! I nearly fell over in shock. I was so amazed, I wanted to remember the experience, so I stepped back and to ok a series of photos of the books, on my phone’s camera….

And here’s what I saw. “F1 Insider,” “Life in the Pit Lane,” “F1 Racing Confidential,” “Zak Brown,” “Inside Mercedes F1,” “F1 The Pinnacle.” It went on and on. Ferrari books. Porsche race cars. Bios on half the drivers on a current F1 grid.
I know! But there’s more. On my way out, I did a quick scan of the magazine rack, and noted that all was well. Then I happened to thumb through the latest issue of Vanity Fair. Now, I happen to like Vanity Fair. It’s sort of a more relaxed intelligent read than The New Yorker – it maintains a similarly high journalistic quality, but it’s more easily consumable. But, there, deep in the book, was a 10-page spread – 10 pages – under the title “You’ve Got a Fast Car.” The subhead read “Wildly expensive vehicles, famous faces and a Netflix glow-up propelled Formula 1 from niche European import to full -blown American obsession….” Seems a photographer was dispatched to this year’s Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai, and the spread was his work. The de rigeur pit stop shot from above (of a Ferrari,) Kimi, George and so forth.
Here’s the thing. You step out of the Barnes & Noble, walk to your car and … what do you pass? A sea of bland appliances that people use for transportation. When was the last time that, in your normal, daily routine, not at the track or your local weeke nd Cars & Coffee, you parked your Porsche near … not just another Porsche, but any sports car? Or sport sedan? Or coupe? Or performance vehicle of any kind?
I’m trying to reconcile this dichotomy. Are we living increasingly in alternate worlds, one where automotive enthusiasm is rampant, and one where utilitarian need far outweighs the fun of it all? I don’t have the answer. But, as someone who has a song for every occasion, I do have a song to hum as we try to figure it out. “All Things Must Pass” by George Harrison. And, remember, he owned a McLaren F1 road car.

June kept the Porsche market on solid footing, even if it didn't quite maintain the pace we've seen over the last year. A total of 746 Porsches crossed the auction block with 73% finding new homes for a combined dollar volume of $60,739,655. While dollar volume and unit volume were both well ahead of June 2025's $38.6 million from 614 cars, this marked the first month since March 2025 that the sell-through rate failed to surpass the same month a year earlier. It was also the first month since February that th e top five sales didn't consist entirely of million-dollar-plus cars. June's calendar featured the usual slate of online auctions, complemented by Mecum's Tulsa sale and BarrettJackson's inaugural auction in Columbus, giving collectors plenty of opportunities to keep the market moving.
Leading the month were a pair of 918 Spyders, and interestingly, neither was equipped with the Weissach Package. The first set June's high-water mark right out of the gate at the beginning of the month. Finished in Guards Red over a Sonderwunsch Garnet Red leather interior with Silver piping, this 420-mile example featured Front Axle Lift, the Carbon Fiber Interior Package, carbon-fiber side mirrors, and a carbon-fiber rear wing. Over the past twelve months, 918 Spyder values have averaged $3.2 million, with sales ranging from $1,715,00 0 to the $6,050,000 paid for the 845-mile Orange Weissach example at Mecum Kissimmee earlier this year. While this car lacked the desirable Weissach Package, its stunning specification, extensive options list, and ultra -low mileage were enough to push the price to $3,117,450 all-in, making it the first non-Weissach 918 Spyder we've seen eclipse the $3 million mark.
Another rarity to cross the block in June was not one, but two 964 30th Anniversary Jubilee Editions, the first examples we'd seen at auction since March 2025. The first was a familiar car, #61 of the 911 produced, which returned after last selling in Nove mber 2024 for $175,000. Finished in Viola Metallic over a Rubicon Grey leather interior, it underwent an extensive restoration with more than $244,000 invested before setting a new all -time auction record at $340,964. Just ten days later, another Viola Metallic over Rubicon Grey example, #491 of 911, crossed the block. Imported to the United States in 2023 and showing 56,000 km (35,000 miles), it presented as a well-documented, highly original example complete with service records, maintenance book, and det ailed paint meter readings. It sold for $300,000, landing right where it should given its higher mileage than the 12,840 -mile car that brought $330,000 in March and the freshly restored record-setting example earlier in the month.
Early water-cooled 911s also had a strong showing in June, highlighted by a record-setting 996 GT2 and an ultralow-mileage 997 Club Coupe. The GT2, a 20,155-mile example finished in Basalt Black Metallic over Black leather, was well optioned with carbon-fiber trim, Speed Yellow seat belts, and Porsche's updated PCCM head unit, while extensive service records and presentation helped drive bidding well beyond recent results. It ultimately sold for $342,300 including buyer's premium, setting a new twelve -month high for the model. At the other end of the spectrum was one of the finest 997 Club Coupes to surface in years. Number 6 of the 50 produced, this one -owner example showed just six delivery miles and featured more than $7,000 in Porsche Exclusive options, including the factory Aerokit. Despite its rarity and virtually new condition, it failed to sell at a final bid of $300,000. My guess is the seller was hoping to capitalize on the enthusiasm surrounding the new 992 Club Coupe, but while more of those will inevitably come to market, it's hard to imagine another delivery-mile 997 Club Coupe appearing anytime soon, if at all.
While I tend to gravitate toward earlier SWB 911s, G-body Carreras have really been growing on me lately, and this 1975 Carrera Targa was one of my favorite cars of the month. One of just 174 examples imported to the U.S. for the model year, it came finished in Peru Red with Gold Carrera script over a Cinnamon leatherette interior, a color combination that looked absolutely fantastic. Showing 59,000 miles, it also benefited from a well -documented engine rebuild and a long list of recent mechanical work, along with tasteful upgrades including Bilstein dampers and Turbo tie rods. Over the past twelve months, only one other 1975 Carrera Targa has sold at online auction, a

Black example that brought $95,000. This one comfortably surpassed that result, hammering at $120,000, and deserved every penny in my opinion.
The 356 market struggled in June with only 40% of the 20 cars on offer finding new homes. There were still a few bright spots, including a pair of 356A Speedsters that sold comfortably into the $300,000 range, but the car that drew the most attention was an exceptionally rare 1959 356A 1600 Super GT Speedster. One of an estimated seven examples built for the U.S. market in lightweight GT specification with the pushrod 1.6 -liter engine, it came finished in Silver Metallic over a Black interior and retained its n umbers-matching engine and transaxle. This wasn't the first time we'd seen the car either, having previously failed to sell at $750,000 during Monterey 2025 and again at $1,000,000 at Mecum Kissimmee this January. This time, bidding stopped at $896,000 without a sale. I hate to use the phrase "the market has spoken," but with three attempts producing bids within a relatively narrow range, I'd say we have a pretty good idea of what buyers are willing to pay.
Overall, June was an interesting month. Unit volume and dollar volume remained exceptionally strong, but the slight drop in sell-through rate is something worth watching, especially after several days toward the end of the month dipped into the 50% range. Whether that's simply a temporary pause or the beginning of a broader shift should become clearer in July. I still expect the best of the best, particularly rare, highly original, and ultra -lowmileage cars, to continue setting new benchmarks. July's calendar is a relatively quiet one with the usual online auctions joined only by Mecum's Harrisburg sale before the market's attention turns squarely toward Monterey Car Week in August.

What’s happening in the Porsche Market Place?
Introduced for the 1987 model year, Porsche’s G50 transmission marked a major step forward for the 911, replacing the long-running 915 gearbox in the Carrera 3.2. Engineered by Getrag, the G50 featured hydraulic clutch actuation, Borg -Warner synchronizers, and a stronger design capable of handling increased torque, resulting in notably smoother and more precise shifting. The architecture carried forward into the 964 and evolved into sixspeed variants for the 993, with reinforced versions used in Turbo model s. Today, the G50 is widely regarded as a milestone in 911 development, delivering a more modern and robust driving experience while preserving driver engagement.
This 1987 911 Carrera Targa 5-Speed was a first-year G50-equipped Carrera and came finished in Black over a Black leather interior with Black -centered 16- inch Fuchs wheels. It showed 67,000 miles, though total mileage is unknown due to a speedometer sending unit replacement in 1994 to correct intermittent operation. The car was optioned with sport shocks and later upgraded with Turbo-spec tie rods, and recent service ahead of the sale included routine maintenance items along with compression and leak -down results documented in the gallery.
Over the past twelve months, G50-era Carrera Targa values have averaged $77,200, with a low of $35,600 and a high of $200,000. Based on mileage comps, our Spotlight car sat in the $50,000–75,000 range, but despite some wear and unknown total mileage, it outperformed expectations, selling for $89,500. Well sold.

Porsche Design Unveils the Chronograph 1
– PCA Member Edition
Porsche Design honors the 70th anniversary of the Porsche Club of America with a new edition of the Chronograph 1. Exclusively made for a special community, PCA members now have the opportunity to customize Porsche Design’s most iconic timepiece that was originally designed by F. A. Porsche in 1972.
Creating a special sense of community amongst members, this new timepiece features the PCA logo and “PORSCHE CLUB OF AMERICA” lettering, and optionally a personalized club region name stated on the case back. The made-to-order watch will not only come with a titanium bracelet, but also two sportive textile straps in vibrant Club Blau, one featuring the PCA logo and the other the PCA 70Y anniversary logo.

The PCA Registry program was established in 1995 to encourage closer relationships within Porsche model owners in PCA. The program allows PCA members to network with others in their specific area of interest. Sharing of information fosters restoration and maintenance of members’ automobiles. A registry can potentially provide a new resource for historical displays at Parades and other PCA events, along with information for articles in Porsche Panorama. Don’t see a registry for your Porsche? We are also looking for individuals who are interested in starting a registry for a model that doesn’t have an existing registry.

Volunteer some time to help out the program.
No prior experience necessary.
Get involved by volunteering for one of our HPDE program roles below:
Corner Worker/Flagger - COMPENSATED ROLE• $100 cash or a future track day credit ($175 value). Observe cars on track and provide flagging communication to drivers. Radio in to Chief of Course regarding any incidents, issues, and need to flag drivers. 8 hr full day commitment
Driving Instructor- Experienced drivers who are interested in becoming a PCA Instructor.
Grid Marshal- Radio communication with the Chief of Course and Corner Workers to release vehicles onto the track from Pre-Grid, and direct the flow of cars on and off the track. Approx. 2-7 hr commitment (part day to full day).
Lunch Pickup/Prep/Cleanup- Pickup lunch from a nearby location and/or lunch prep and cleanup.
Photographer-Capture photos of the event from great vantage points on the track or paddock for publication in Going Places. Approx. 2 hr commitment.
Pre-Grid-While cars are staged waiting to enter the track, check driver wristbands and confirm other safety guidelines are being met prior to releasing vehicles. Approx. 2-7 hr commitment (part to full day).
Registration-Check in drivers and their guests at the track gate entrance. Approx. 2 hr early AM commitment.
Safety Tech- Using our safety checklist, inspect vehicles and helmets to ensure compliance. Approx. 2 hr early AM commitment
Setup / Breakdown-Assist with unloading/loading and set up of equipment such as tables, chairs, canopy, PA system, etc. Approx. 1 hr commitment, early AM or late afternoon.
Writer-Write an editorial on the event, perhaps with an interview or two from drivers for publication in Going Places. Approx. 2 hr commitment.
