Going Places Facts and Figures

The Deadline for submitting material is the 15th of each month. Submissions received after that date will appear in a later edition. Articles written and submitted to Going Places are done so on a voluntary basis.

I hope everyone is having a great summer! While some of our members have headed to cooler climates, our driving season certainly doesn't stop here in Arizona.

One of the highlights of the past month was our overnight driving tour to Alpine. If you've never experienced this route, put it on your calendar for next year. The route travels through Globe, follows the beautiful Salt River, climbs into the cooler mountain air around Alpine, and then heads south on Highway 191. With hundreds of curves, very little traffic, and some of the best scenery in Arizona, it's arguably the best driving road in the state, and certainly the windiest! If you missed this year's tour, don't wait for the next official drive. Grab a few Porsche friends, make a weekend of it, and experience it for yourself. I think you'll quickly see why it's one of our favorite routes.

Just a few weeks ago, Porsche Parade 2026 was held in Lake Placid, New York. More than 2,300 PCA members and roughly 1,000 Porsches gathered for a week of concours, autocross, driving tours, technical sessions, and social events. It's the biggest gathering on the PCA calendar and something every member should consider attending at least once. We hope several of our Arizona Region members were able to make the trip to Lake Placid this year. If you attended, we'd love to hear about your experience and see a f ew photos from the week. It's always fun to share those stories with the rest of the region, and they may encourage others to make the trip in the future.

If Lake Placid wasn't in the cards this year, there's al ways time to start planning ahead. Porsche Parade 2027 will be held in Boise, Idaho, making it a much easier trip for many of our members. PCA has also announced that the 2028 Parade will be held in Traverse City, Michigan, giving everyone another great summer destination to look forward to.

The summer months are also a great time to start planning your next drive. Arizona has no shortage of incredible roads once you get out of the Valley, and a weekend road trip with a few Porsche friends is hard to beat. Before you know it, fall will be here and our calendar will be full again, so don't let the summer pass without finding an excuse to get behind the wheel.

As always, thank you to all of our volunteers who continue to make our region one of the best in PCA. Whether you're organizing events, leading tours, helping behind the scenes, or simply coming out to support fellow members, your involvement is what makes this club such a great community.

Sometimes I like to use old English idioms and change them up a bit, like the saying….

“It never rains but it pours” in this case instead of bad things happening some really cool things have suddenly happened, we have been happily inundated with stories, articles and reviews.

This month we just had to publish every single article sent our way, why, because it really showed what a great group of members we have in our club, bravo to each and every one of you.

This month’s featured members are Allen & Rhonda Fenske (check out pages 22-23)

Our resident Petrol Head, Mike Ferring has provided us with a wonderful article on his adventures attending the Monaco Historic Grand Prix (well worth a read on pages 70-71)

As usual we like to say “Thanks” to as many of our volunteer writers as we can so drop down to page 72 for a list of the names and a big shout out to Emily Lane who bravely came to the rescue of one of our members who got a flat tire during the Alpine Drive and without hesitation drove them to collect a new tire so their adventures could continue……Thanks!

APPOINTED POSITIONS

The Arizona Region Board of Directors are still looking for members to volunteer to become part of the Team in filling the four appointed positions listed below:

If anyone is interested in any of the positions, please contact the Region President, Dan Bouet, at president@az.pca.org

Equipment Chair – Responsibilities: Coordinate with different event Chairs to ensure that equipment is available to event coordinators and that each Region item is correctly catalogued and stored correctly. This person will also facilitate delivery and/or pickup to club functions using various methods available.

Technical Advisor – Responsibilities: Provide technical expertise to the Region members regarding routine Porsche maintenance and fielding questions regarding the various vehicle system and components. Provide assistance to the Tech Session Coordinator with the planning and scheduling of the tech sessions. Contribute to Going Places Newsletter with monthly tech articles.

Road Rally Chair – Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate, and/or select a Rally Event Chair to facilitate Road Rallies for the Club members to enjoy in a safe & friendly competition environment driving the Porsche car on the public highways within the scope of all Arizona Revised Statutes. The road rally category type will be at the discretion of the rally chair from a Gimmick Rally to a Navigational Rally, pursuant to the National PCA Region Procedures Manual (RPM).

PCA Juniors Program Coordinator – Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate, promote and facilitate the activities for the PCA Junior members to participate in the Club social activities, pursuant to the National PCA RPM.

Upcoming AZPCA Driving Tours

Driving Tour is a relaxing drive in your Porsche, to an interesting destination in and around the Phoenix metro area, and sometimes to further destinations around the state and beyond. Our drives typically feature beautiful scenery and great Porsche driving roads. Driving Tours are non-competitive events, meant to provide enjoyment with your car in the company of other Porsche owners sharing an interesting experience.

Saturday, Aug. 1 —

Music in the Pines Driving Tour

Join your Porsche Club friends for an August drive up to the cool pines for lunch in a beautiful mountain forest setting. We’ll meet at the recently refurbished Coffee Plantation in Scottsdale, and drive through Fountain Hills and up the Beeline Highway. From Payson we’ll climb the Mogollon Rim to our destination outside of Pine, Sip at 5600, for lunch, music, and beautiful views.

Thu-Sat, Aug. 13-15

— Get Your Kicks on Route 66

This three-day event to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Mother Road features lots of driving to interesting sites along the most famous road in the good ol’ USA. The drive begins at the funky Buc-ee’s mega travel center/convenience store in the West Valley, a destination in itself. We’ll stay overnight in Lake Havasu City, home of the famous London Bridge, then travel East on the famous highway, with plans to stop at several historic sites, including Oatman, Kingman, Seligman, and Williams, along the way to our final destination in Flagstaff. Saturday morning features the Mother Road Classic Car Show.

Fri-Sun, Sep. 11-13

— Weekend Getaway to Tubac and Kitt Peak

Join us for a relaxing weekend getaway to Tubac, AZ, a Spanish presidio town, where we will enjoy exciting drives, sightseeing, optional golf, and great food. Two nights at the historic Tubac Golf Resort & Spa. Tubac offers great sightseeing, including the oldest mission in Arizona, Tumacácori, Tubac Presidio State Historic Park, great restaurants, wine tasting, and the vibrant art scene of old Tubac. Sunday’s destination is Kitt Peak National Observatory, with a great twisty road up the mountain to enjoy spectacular views and a guided tour

Thu-Fri, Sept. 17-18

— Verde Valley Train & Wine Tasting Event

A scenic drive north through Payson, Pine, and Camp Verde to Cottonwood/Clarkdale, where we’ll ride the Verde Canyon Railroad on a lovely wilderness excursion into an area of extreme natural beauty, following the curves of the Verde River. Vintage train cars feature living room-style accommodations, complimentary appetizers, and a complimentary glass of champagne or sparkling cider upon boarding. Each person receives their own complimentary charcuterie box at their seat, featuring gourmet cheeses and meats, crackers, fruit, and brownie bites. Overnight stay at the Taawaki Inn in Clarkdale.

For this event, The Bearded Barber Speakeasy will feature a special brunch menu created exclusively for Porsche Club of America Arizona Region attendees. 1. When did you join PCA?

• Allen and Rhonda joined the PCA in February 2026.

2. What Porsche(s) do you have?

We have 2 Porsches:

• 2025 Porsche Cayenne Coupe (Chalk Grey)

• 2026 911 Carrera GTS T-Hybrid (Carmine Red)

3. Where are you from?

• Allen was born and raised in Wisconsin, Rhonda in Florida.

4. Family?

• Allen and Rhonda have been married for 33 years. They have 1 son, Brandon (26) and 2 animal children. Lexi (14-year-old Havanese Poodle Mix) and Bailey (4-year-old Mal-Shi).

5. Work background or trade?

• Allen and Rhonda met through work-related activities in Clearwater, Florida. Allen holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin -Milwaukee and a master’s degree in engineering from the University of Florida. He work s as a Senior Program Director at Honeywell Aerospace in the Engines and Power Systems Strategic Business Unit. Rhonda attended St. Petersburg and Tampa colleges in Florida prior to joining Honeywell Aerospace and Defense in 1981; currently Rhonda is a Senior Engineering Program Manager focusing on pursuits and strategy for the Electronics Hardware Center of Excellence. Their son Brandon graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering and also works at Honeywell Aerospace developing software for Honeywell's latest and most advanced cockpit system.

6. What makes your car(s) special?

• We appreciate the Cayenne Coupe body style as it's sporty and comfortable as a daily driver, and the 911 GTS T-Hybrid for its speed and uniqueness. Having owned the GTS for only a month, everything about it special. Can’t help but wonder…. Does the GTS think of us all the time too?

7. Next upgrade?

• Probably too early to be planning the next car. For now, we just want to enjoy the AZPCA club, go on a few drives and experience what everyone else has known all along. There is no substitute!

8. Have you personalized your car?

• No personalization yet.

9. Favorite memory with a car?

• Our first event with the 911 Carrera GTS was the June Porsches & Pancakes event held at our favorite local restaurant the Black Mountain Café (BMC) in Carefree. Allen was fortunate to be the musician that day and we got to debut our new car! It was a lovely morning shared with Porsche enthusiasts who genuinely felt as excited a bout our car as we were. Thank you all for the memory!

10. Where/Why did you buy your Porsche?

• We bought the Cayenne locally at McLaren Scottsdale and the 911 Carrera GTS was purchased new from Porsche Sacramento.

13th Annual Porsche & Pancakes at Anthem Country Club

SATURDAY, September 05 @ 8:30 am – 11:00 am

Can you believe this is our 13th year of what has been a very successful event, we will again be returning to the elegant Ironwood Private Dining Room at the Anthem Country Club for another signature event

Please save the date for this special event, and plan to join us on Saturday, September 5th. Since we will likely exceed 100 Porsches and over 200 enthusiasts, secure your spot now. Forget the red zones in front of the main entrance, this is a Porsche event, and we’ll have the cars lined up around the circular drive and let them overflow into the parking lot once again. Check-In opens at 8:30 AM, with food served at 9:00 AM! There will be no onsite registration and you must pay online in advance.

Review - Driving Tour to Show Low

The Porsche Club of America, Arizona Region, gathered on Friday, May 8th, at 7:30 a.m. for our drive and tour to Show Low via Salt River Canyon. Our journey would take us over 175 miles across dry desert to green pines, over mountains, down canyons with was pleasant, for May, and perfect for the drive.

With over 30 cars split into two groups, spaced 15 minutes apart, we headed east on the 60, once again dazzling, if not the rest of the world, at least ourselves with an array of color and raw power.

We took a quick stop in Superior, then continued east on US 60 toward Globe through the Superstition Mountains. We passed through the historic Queen Creek Tunnel which was built in ‘52 for a whopping $550k (around the price of some 911 GT2’s for sale today!) to connect Safford with Phoenix.

After the tunnel we enjoyed the nice winding roads as we worked our way through the mountains and enjoyed the view of the copper mines. This stretch always seems to have some kind of construction but thankfully it was not overly crowded yet and we did get to enjoy a good percentage of the turns.

Though we did have one person slowing us down. However we were all very thankful and waved in appreciation when she pulled off at a scenic stop. It’s always nice to see a slower driver let us pass.

As gears dropped and wings unfolded the Porsche “birds” began to soar! I was 12 again on all my favorite roller coasters at Magic Mountain in California. I couldn’t stop screaming, laughing and catching my breath as the switchbacks pulled me from side to side in my seat. As a passenger it’s a totally different experience than as the driver. It was nice to just enjoy the thrill. Up until that point Steven Brenner and I had used the hours discussing plans for a poker ride we will be co-hosting in October. However there were some parts of the drive I was speechless, that was one of them. Later a couple other drivers called it spicy. They were not wrong.

Back to the landscape…the stunning Salt River Canyon truly a “mini-Grand Canyon” with its dramatic cliffs and deep canyons was breathtaking but not well portrayed in my only picture below.

Once the Porsches were done playing all out we had a more relaxing pace into Show Low for lunch. “The House” known for its burgers and fries was the perfect place to stop.

Outside, under the shade of pines, we enjoyed good food and good company. I love the chances we get on these drives to get to know each other better. It’s good for the soul! Thank you Randy for the game of Jenga and Emily for your smiles of support as I pulled the losing blocks (twice!)

Review - Driving Tour to Show Low

Ugh, I thought I had him! (Stock photo, too busy strategizing to take my own.) Rematch! We wrapped up the drive by heading back toward Payson. In Payson we stopped at Safeway. Finding another club in the parking lot as we pulled in next to them.

After the break we eased back into the drive to Phoenix but after a couple exciting twists and turns one of our drivers realized he’d forgotten to fuel up in Payson. It was 36 miles to Fountain Hills and about the same back to Payson. He had 20+ miles of gas left!! We did the only thing we could…slow way down, suggest he not use the AC, and watch the “miles to empty” decrease while ascending the mountains and INCREASE while descending them!! Hallelujah we were going to make it! And we did! All the way to the Chevron in Fountain Hills without having to take a gas can to a stranded!!

What a way to end a drive with that kind of excitement! (Hope it doesn’t happen again.) All in all a fun day. Hope to do it again next year as the driver����. See you there.

AZPCA Weekend Getaway - Tubac/Kitt Peak

Weekend Getaway to Tubac and Kitt Peak – Drives, Sightseeing, Optional Golf

Join us for a relaxing weekend getaway to Tubac, AZ, a Spanish presidio town, where we will enjoy exciting drives, sightseeing, optional golf, and great food. We are staying two nights at the historic Tubac Golf Resort & Spa in classic southwestern style casitas. Tubac offers great sightseeing, including the oldest mission in Arizona, Tumacácori, Tubac Presidio State Historic Park, great restaurants, wine tasting, and the vibrant art scene of old Tubac. We will meet in the Southeast Valley on Friday and take the scenic route through Florence to Tucson, where we will stop for a lunch buffet at the Culinary Dropout before we continue south to Tubac. Upon arrival and check in we gather for dinner at the Stables Ranch Grill on the patio, overlooking the resort golf course.

On Saturday there are several options to choose from, including an organized drive, a casual golf tournament, or sightseeing, shopping, and wine tasting on your own. Or just relax and enjoy the resort facilities.

Sunday’s destination is Kitt Peak National Observatory. We will start towards the Buenos Aires Wildlife Refuge and take very twisty and well-maintained mountain road to Kitt Peak National Observatory to enjoy spectacular views, a one-hour tour of the observatory, and a lunch at the observatory picnic area.

We will take a scenic drive north on the Beeline (SR87), through Payson, Pine, Camp Verde and into Cottonwood/Clarkdale.

The Verde Canyon Railroad offers a lovely wilderness excursion into an area of extreme natural beauty, following the curves of the Verde River, 20 miles up through a red rock canyon. It is full of unusual geology, abundant wildlife, lush greenery, and Native-American ruins, on vintage rails aboard vintage train cars.

There is something wonderful to be seen each season, and the train runs year-round. The route starts at the depot in Clarkdale, AZ and ventures 20 miles to the historic ranch town of Perkinsville. At Perkinsville the engines disconnect, come around on a sidetrack and reconnect at the back (now front) of the train to power us back home to Clarkdale. En route we pass vintage trestles, travel through a 734-foot tunnel and tour beautiful red rock canyon scenery and the riparian curves of the Verde River. The trip is fully narrated, and the narration is interspersed with fun railroad tunes of every genre.

The train has all the same comfortable living room-style accommodations, featuring overstuffed chairs and loveseats, complimentary appetizers, and a complimentary glass of champagne or sparkling cider upon boarding. Each person receives their own complimentary charcuterie box at their seat, featuring gourmet cheeses and meats, crackers, fruit, and brownie bites.

Review - Music Cruise on Saguaro Lake

An old proverb reads; April Showers bring May flowers. May brings a beautiful transition of weather and a host of cooler days (under 100 degrees) as we transition into Summer. We could not have asked for a more gorgeous day to Cruise Saguaro Lake. Let’s dive in!

Our adventure began at Arrivederci Cucina Italiano in the beautiful town of Fountain Hills. Our Porsche family arrived at 1:00p.m. to dine and enjoy each other’s company, making new friends and celebrating lifelong friendships. The food was delicious and our servers were kind and attentive. After lunch, Rook hosted our drivers meeting, ensured all forms were signed and designating two sets of Leads and two sets of Sweeps for the 36 sexy Porsches revving to go.

The first of two driving teams was headed by Rook and Debbie, with Chad and Nora as Sweepers keeping the tail-end drivers in line.

The Second group was headed by Peo and Silke with Ken and Megan as Sweepers leaving no Porsche separated or lost from the group.

We arrived at the Desert Belle Cruises and collected near the embarkation area awaiting our chance to board. Captain Dan greeted and welcomed all 60 members of the Porsche Club and invited all aboard.

Once aboard the Desert Belle, our Porsche family members staked out their favorite vantage point and proceeded to settle in and enjoy the breeze. Captain Dan introduced us to Scott, a talented singer and guitarist who blended incredible acoustic melodies with classic favorites for a lively, toe-tapping performance. Time to set sail!

During our cruise, many of us were mesmerized by the beautiful vistas and rugged desert cliffs which engulfed the lake. I’m sure we were all hoping to catch a glimpse of local wildlife, but instead, the waters were alive with “human” activity as people zipped by on jet skis, pontoons, and other watercraft.

The cool breeze, the shared smiles, and the music made this 80-minute cruise feel like only a second.

As the Desert Bell glided back to dock, we gave the entire crew a round of applause for their wonderful hospitality and care. What a great day spent with our Porsche family!

Bravo to another successful PCA Arizona Region event. This day would not have been possible without the teamwork and passion of Silke and Peo Hansson.

About the NEW Autocross events:

Join us for our AZPCA autocross at The Phoenix Raceway

Location address is 7602 Jimmie Johnson Dr, Avondale, AZ 85323 Non-Porsches are welcome to participate. Multi lap format. Contact our NEW event co-ordinator Ealing Jahn for more information.

$99 for the event - there is no on site registration. If you wish to have someone, who is not an entrant, over 18 years old and who is an immediate household member, as a passenger for a taste of autox please pre-register and pay the $10 fee.

Drivers can invite guests only during pre-registration who must complete all waivers, but cannot be a passenger. Gates open at 7:00 am. First car out at 8:30 am. Rental helmets can be reserved during the online registration process. Sorry but no go-karts, Polaris type, formula or other exoskeleton vehicles permitted.

A link to the Porsche waiver will be sent to you via email, information on the Phoenix Raceway paper waiver will be provided in your event receipt and is available on site.

Autocross is the sport of trying to navigate your car through a defined course of pylons usually on a large parking lot, faster than your competition.

Autocross courses are set up using soft orange traffic pylon cones (which will not damage your car) and events are run at speeds usually between 40 -65 MPH, usually all in 2nd gear. Autocross is a “performance driving event” and a safe way to learn how to drive your car at its limits. You not only learn how to handle your car at speeds that you drive daily, but you also: Gain confidence in your driving ability. Learn the limits of your car’s brakes. Learn correct seating, hand, and feet positions. Learn the limits of your car’s tire adhesion. Most importantly, autocross is a social gathering of friends with a common interest and is simply a ton of fun!

Your family is welcome and there are usually plenty of people to socialize with.

Be prepared for big fun.

HPDE - DRIVING YOUR PORSCHE ON THE TRACK

Expand your car control skills and explore the capabilities of your Porsche on a racetrack in a safe, controlled environment with no speed limits! AZPCA’s HPDE & TT program (that’s short for High Performance Driver Education and Time Trials) is all about experiencing your Porsche on a road circuit. AZPCA provides personal driving instructors for new participants to guide them through the day. Our instructors will navigate you along the road circuit, teach you the fundamentals of driving at track speeds, but also keep you in a comfort zone so you have a good time. There are flaggers on track, just like at a real racing event. The club also arranges an ambulance and tow truck on site for emergencies.

For the HPDE events, four groups of approximately 10-25 drivers are formed based on experience levelBeginner, Intermediate, Experienced, Advanced. Grouping allows everyone attending to have a good time. Beginners don’t have to stress about having little/no experience- chances are, there are several other drivers in the same group just starting out.

Based on instructor evaluation, you are advanced to the next group up when appropriate. Sometimes this is after one day, or sometimes it takes a several events. Higher run groups typically mean more speed but with a better, practiced skill set to control the speed safely. This keeps track days exciting for you as you advance your skill set.

While this is definitely NOT racing, there is a natural tendency to evaluate yourself to other drivers in your group, but HPDE is not structured to award “fast” times. To satisfy the competitive nature in you, we offer options for all levels of expertise.

AZPCA Off-Road Adventure - Castle Hot Springs

The Castle Hot Springs Resort was established in 1896 and is a historical icon, nestled in a rugged and remote desert location. Boasting a colorful history, yet untouched for nearly 40 years, this natural gem in the Bradshaw Mountains continued to produce restorative thermal waters.

Let’s Get Dirty! – There are no plans in stopping at this historic resort. For 36 Miles, the trail traverses through the Bradshaw Mountains with breath taking picturesque views. The Tour will conclude at Dillon’s BBQ at the Western Trails Ranch in Morristown. The tour will take less than 3 hours. Each member will be on their own and will order off the menu.

AZPCA Off-Road Adventures - The Dirtier, the Better!

Arizona Region is planning for other Off-Road Driving Tours this year with plans to do Four Peaks possibly in May/June, and later this year, Castle Hot Springs and tentatively Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. Some of the outings may include picnicking on the trail. The future dates will be announced in this publication.

Review - June’s Monthly Meeting - The Vault

Our June membership meeting was held at The Vault, owned by Ron Evans, who was terribly generous in letting us enjoy his facility. It stores many interesting and valuable cars, along with his amazing collection of car related neon and enamel signs. The food was pro vided by Sharko's Catering, and was excellent as always, and the special talk Ron provided about his collections topped off the night.

Saturday, June 6th 65 PCA members gathered for a beautiful summer morning for the monthly Porsches & Pancake event at the charming Black Mountain C afé (BMC) in Carefree, AZ. I’m sure what I am about to share is no secret to anyone who frequents BMC. Don and Lisa Little are the heartbeat of this establishment and have fostered a family friendly atmosphere unique to their venue in the Spanish Village. What a perfect selection to host the Arizona Region, Porsche Club of America.

Allen and I learned about BMC through their Friday Night Jam sessions where local musicians flock to entertain and share their talents. Our experience at BMC the first year was beyond words. Weekend after weekend we made new friends, brought neighbors together and felt blessed being a part of the BMC community. Allen being a musician had picked up painting and decided to paint a few guitars that express the comradery. Don & Lisa have them displayed inside the restaurant and sometimes when we are there, Allen will take one off the wall and play. The collection also includes a very special guitar that was gifted to Don & Lisa for their 40th Wedding anniversary.

Some may recognize Allen from other Porsche events. We were lucky to meet Frank & Maria Grimmelman at Alpio’s Cars & Coffee which led to a few PCA appearances. I knew from meeting so many nice people that we needed to become a member of this incredible gro up. Many say it’s not just the cars, although they are amazing, it’s the people you meet on the journey.

We started our search and ended up with a 2025 Cayenne in January this year. Finally, we got to join PCA! But there was still an itch to get a red sports car. So, we started looking again…. There is something about shopping for a Porsche that never gets bo ring. We discovered a perfect spec in Sacramento. A 2026 Carmine Red 911 GTS T-Hybrid. Wow, that’s a mouthful! We had it shipped to Arizona and celebrated its debut during Porsches & Pancakes at our favorite venue surrounded by so many genuine Porsche friends.

Allen and I feel fortunate to have joined this community of Porsche lovers and look forward to meeting more members at future events

Review - Ladies-Only Brunch & Western Spirit Tour

On June 8, twenty PCA members had a delightful brunch at The Eleanor, followed by a stop at the Sphinx Date (located next to The Eleanor) and ending for some members with a guided tour at the Western Spirit Museum. After the museum tour, other members joined up for a co-ed happy, Happy Hour at Volanti at the Scottsdale Airport. First off, I want to thank Lana Griffin for recommending The Eleanor and Western Spirit Museum and joining me on a fun reconnaissance discovery trip before we planned this event.

Our visit to The Eleanor was a first for all of us and everyone loved it. The ambiance is bright and stylish, the dishes are substantial and reasonably priced, and the food is delicious. Definitely a place worth returning to!

Sphinx Date is located next to The Eleanor.

After brunch, as a bonus activity, we stopped by the Sphinx Date Co. storefront, which features Arizona-grown dates, edible gifts, locally crafted pantry goods, Arizona wine, and craft beer, as well as dried fruit and nuts. Sharyn gave us an insightful talk on the history and cultivation of dates in Arizona, explaining how they are harvested and answering all of our questions. We also enjoyed a sample of pitted Medjool dates that had been delivered fresh from the grower that morning. YUMMY.

Arizona Region Porsche Club of America – Alpine Tour 2026

There are few things more satisfying than watching the sun rise over a line of Porsches waiting to hit the road.

Before the first engine fires, before the first apex, and before the first mountain pass comes into view, there is already a sense of anticipation that every Porsche owner knows well. It’s the excitement of sharing great roads with people who appreciate driving for the pure joy of it. Not because they must get somewhere, but because the journey itself is the destination.

That spirit was alive and well as twenty Porsches and nearly forty Arizona Region PCA members gathered early Friday morning in Mesa for one of the club’s most anticipated annual traditions the Alpine Tour. Over the next three days we would leave behind the scorching heat of the Valley, climb into Arizona’s breathtaking White Mountains, tackle some of the finest driving roads in the Southwest, and create the kind of memories that keep members coming back year after year.

Weekends like this don’t happen by accident. A heartfelt thank you goes to Mark and Angela Manente, whose countless hours of planning once again made this event a tremendous success. Coordinating routes, lodging, meals, safety logistics, and twenty cars is no small task, and everyone who attended benefited from their dedication and attention to detail.

Special recognition also goes to our driving team. Mark Manente and Rook Younger expertly led our two touring groups while Emily Lane and Rick Forbes served as sweeps, ensuring the groups stayed together and every participant arrived safely. Their calm leadership allowed the rest of us to focus on what we came for enjoying some of the finest driving roads Arizona has to offer.

Leaving the Desert Behind

Following the drivers’ meeting, both groups departed Mesa right on schedule. The first few miles gave everyone an opportunity to settle into the rhythm of the drive before the landscape began its gradual transformation. The familiar saguar os and desert scrub slowly gave way to rolling hills, temperatures began to fall, and every mile carried us farther away from Phoenix’s triple-digit heat.

By the time we reached Globe, the excitement had grown noticeably. Our first stop gave everyone a chance to stretch, admire one another’s cars, talk shop, and catch up with fellow members before the roads truly began showing us why Porsche builds some of the world’s finest driver’s cars. Conversations naturally drifted from favorite roads and previous club drives to suspension setups, tire choices, detailing tips, and the little stories that inevitably accompany every Porsche ownership experience.

Leaving Globe is where the drive really begins.

The road starts climbing, the curves become more frequent, and almost without realizing it, the desert begins to disappear in the mirrors. Oak trees gradually give way to towering ponderosa pines, the air becomes cooler and noticeably fresher, and every corner seems to reveal another postcard-worthy view. Windows came down, tops folded back on the cabriolets, and the unmistakable sound of flat-six engines echoed through the mountains as our colorful procession of Porsches carved its way toward the White Mountains.

Looking ahead or catching a glimpse in the mirror was a sight every enthusiast could appreciate. Caymans, Boxsters, Carreras, GTS models, GT3s, Turbos, Cabriolets, Cayenne and Macan. flowed together through the curves like a perfectly choreographed parade. Each model has its own personality and character, yet every one of them felt completely at home on these roads. This is where Porsche engineering truly shines not sitting in traffic or parked at a cars and coffee gathering, but on roads that reward balance, precision, and driver involvement.

Lunch in Pinetop

By midday we rolled into Pinetop for lunch at the Lion’s Den Bar & Grill, where great food was matched only by even better company. One of the best parts of every PCA trip happens when the cars are parked and everyone gathers around the table. New friendships are formed, old stories are retold, and conversations naturally revolve around favorite drives, memorable road trips, future events, and of course, Porsches.

After lunch, we refueled the cars and pointed them east once again, following Arizona Highways 260 and 261 toward one of eastern Arizona’s most spectacular overlooks.

Point of the Mountain Overlook

If you’ve never stopped at Point of the Mountain Overlook, you’re missing one of Arizona’s hidden treasures.

Perched high above the White Mountains, the overlook offers breathtaking panoramic views that seem to stretch forever. Layers of pine forests roll across the landscape, interrupted only by distant mountain ridges fading into the horizon. Standi ng there, with cool mountain air replacing the Valley heat, it was difficult to believe we had started the morning in Mesa only a few hours earlier.

Naturally, cameras came out almost immediately. A line of twenty Porsches framed by one of Arizona’s most beautiful landscapes made for photographs that simply couldn’t be passed up.

After taking in the scenery, we continued the final stretch toward Alpine.

Welcome to Alpine

By late afternoon we arrived at Long Shadow Lodge at Tal -Wi-Wi, where Daniel and his outstanding staff had everything ready for our arrival. Check-in was quick, rooms were prepared, and before long everyone had settled in to enjoy the peaceful surroundings that make Alpine such a special destination.

As the afternoon turned into evening, members gathered outside on the lodge terrace for our traditional Friday Happy Hour. Several members generously brought charcuterie boards, cheeses, homemade appetizers, snacks, desserts, and favorite beverages to share with the group. It didn’t take long for small conversations to become larger ones as members caught up with old friends while getting to know those attending their first overnight PCA event.

One of the greatest strengths of the Porsche Club has never been the cars themselves it’s the people.

No matter which Porsche you drive or how long you’ve been a member, you’re immediately welcomed into conversations with people who share the same passion. Advice is freely exchanged, travel stories are shared, and before long it feels less like a club gathering and more like spending an evening with lifelong friends.

Many of us later enjoyed dinner at the lodge’s restaurant before stepping outside to experience something becoming increasingly rare a truly dark night sky. With virtually no light pollution, the stars seemed endless, and several members were treated to the beautiful alignment of Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury above the mountains, providing a fitting conclusion to an already memorable first day.

Saturday – The Drive Everyone Was Waiting For

Saturday began early with breakfast at the lodge before another drivers’ meeting. To stay ahead of a large motorcycle group expected on the Coronado Trail later that morning, our departure was earlier than in previous years.

While several members chose to spend the day exploring Alpine and the surrounding White Mountains at their own pace, fifteen cars departed for what many consider one of the finest driving routes in the United States.

Crossing briefly into western New Mexico on Highway 180 before returning to Arizona via Highway 78, the scenery once again transformed as we descended toward Clifton and Morenci. Long switchbacks, wide-open vistas, and light traffic created the perfect warm-up before reaching the day’s main attraction.

Before climbing back into the mountains, we stopped overlooking the impressive Morenci Mine.

It’s almost impossible to comprehend the scale of the operation until you’re standing there. The Morenci Mine is one of North America’s largest open-pit copper mines, producing hundreds of thousands of tons of copper every year. Massive haul trucks, each standing several stories tall, crawl along the terraced benches looking almost like children’s toys against the enormous walls of the mine. It’s an incredible reminder of why Arizona proudly carries the nickname “The Copper State.”

After a few photographs and plenty of conversation about the incredible view, we climbed back into our cars.

Now it was time.

The Coronado Trail

If there is one road that belongs on every driving enthusiast’s bucket list, it’s US Highway 191 the legendary Coronado Trail.

Originally known as US 666 before being renumbered in the early 1990s, this extraordinary ribbon of pavement winds its way through the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest for more than one hundred miles. Between Morenci and Alpine, the road climbs thousands of feet in elevation while serving up what is often said to be more than 460 curves. Whether anyone has actually counted them all is almost beside the point. After the first twenty minutes, you simply stop trying.

Corner after corner. Left. Right. Hairpin. Sweeper. Climb. Descend. Repeat.

The road never seems to end, and that’s exactly what makes it so magical.

Every perfectly placed steering input is rewarded. Every smooth downshift is followed by another perfectly cambered corner. Every exit invites you toward the next sequence of bends while the mountains continue rising around you. There are no long straights to interrupt the rhythm just mile after mile of technical driving that rewards smoothness, patience, and precision.

This is where Porsche engineering comes alive.

The steering feels alive in your hands. The chassis settles effortlessly into each corner. The brakes inspire confidence, and the balance that has defined Porsche sports cars for generations becomes impossible to ignore. Every driver was experiencing the same thing that wonderful feeling when the car seems to disappear beneath you and every input becomes instinctive.

It’s difficult to describe to someone who has never driven the Coronado Trail. It’s not about speed. It’s about flow. It’s ab out connecting one perfect corner to the next until you lose all sense of time and simply become part of the road.

Hannagan Meadow Lodge

Eventually, even the best driving roads require a break.

Nestled at over 9,000 feet in elevation, Hannagan Meadow Lodge provided the perfect place to relax, enjoy lunch, and reflect on the morning’s drive. Surrounded by towering pines and cool mountain air, the historic lodge has welcomed travelers for generations and remains one of Arizona’s favorite mountain destinations.

The atmosphere couldn’t have been more appropriate for a Porsche Road trip. Rustic charm, friendly service, beautiful scenery, and conversations filled with enthusiastic reviews of the morning’s drive made it difficult to leave. But there were still pl enty of curves waiting between Hannagan Meadow and Alpine.

The return drive was every bit as enjoyable as the morning run. Familiar corners somehow became even more rewarding the second time through, and before long we were once again pulling into Tal -Wi-Wi with smiles that said everything.

A Perfect Ending

Back at the lodge, the staff once again exceeded expectations by hosting a pizza party in a private game room reserved exclusively for our group.

It was the perfect ending to a perfect driving day.

Stories bounced as everyone compared favorite sections of road, memorable corners, and moments from the weekend. Laughter filled the room, friendships grew stronger, and conversations naturally turned toward future PCA events.

It’s amazing how quickly a group brought together by a shared passion for automobiles becomes something much more.

Until Next Time

Sunday morning arrived much sooner than anyone wanted.

Some members packed up early while others lingered a little longer over breakfast before beginning the drive home at their own pace. As engines fired one last time and Porsches gradually disappeared down the road in different directions, there was a familiar feeling shared by everyone.

Nobody was quite ready for the weekend to end.

Yes, the roads were unforgettable. The scenery was spectacular. The weather was nearly perfect. But what truly made this year’s Alpine Tour memorable wasn’t simply the destination or even the legendary Coronado Trail.

It was the people who shared it.

Weekends like these remind us that being part of the Arizona Region Porsche Club of America is about far more than owning a remarkable automobile. It’s about discovering incredible roads, exploring places you might never have visited otherwise, meeting people who quickly become friends, and creating memories that last long after the engines have cooled.

To everyone who joined this year’s Alpine Tour thank you for another unforgettable adventure.

Moving to Arizona in 2009, Sharon graduated from Le Cordon Bleu with a degree in Baking and Patisserie. Her experience in catering stems from working with Santa Barbara Catering in Tempe. Review - Alpine Driving Tour Getaway

Weekend in the Pines!

Twenty-one cars and thirty-eight people met at the IHOP located in Mesa for the start of another amazing Alpine XXVI weekend in north eastern Arizona.

The drive through Globe and Miami through the Salt River Canyon was beautiful with many stunning vistas and red rock mesas set against brilliant blue Arizona skies.

Lunch was waiting for the group at the Lions Den in Pinetop, Arizona. Live music was performed by a soloist who performed Fleetwood Mac music among many other artists.

We finished lunch and loaded up for the drive to our destination for the day, Long Shadow Lodge (formerly the Tal Wi Wi Lodge).

After arriving at the lodge, we gathered for cocktails, appetizers , and interesting conversation replaying the events of the day and developing new friendships with members

Review - Alpine Driving Tour Getaway

Dinner was conveniently available at the bar/restaurant on the lodge grounds. It was great getting to kick back and have a few beers after the day’s drive.

Saturday started with breakfast at the lodge restaurant followed by the drivers meeting. The group left one hour earlier to get ahead of several motorcycle clubs who were riding the same route.

Many elk and deer were spotted in the area of Alpine during our drive.

The first leg was a drive out to the Leopold Vista, New Mexico. This is a beautiful and stunning trip while the fast sweepers and vistas provided an infinite and everchanging landscape to enjoy.

The second leg of our trip was from Leopold Vista to Morenci, Arizona. This leg of our drive included fast straights with a mixture of tight turns and sweepers. The views were also stunning and enjoyable.

We topped off with fuel at the Marathon station in Morenci before beginning the best part of the drive.

Ninety miles of tight turns and fast sweepers on A Z191 to Hannagan Meadows Lodge. This is one of the most enjoyable drives anywhere in the country.

We did experience one setback where a member caught a flat tire. The clubs universal spare tire came in handy in getting the car back to the Long Shadow Lodge. The sweeper for the day, Emily Lane, generously took the damaged tire and owner to Show Low for a new tire.

The group then met for appetizers and their favorite beverages to replay the day. The lodge game room was opened for the club and a pizza party was enjoyed by all throughout the evening.

Sunday was the return trip home regrettably leaving this beautiful part of Arizona until we can repeat the trip next year!

Formula 1 on the streets of Monaco is like playing Wimbledon on a pickleball court. Despite that, modern F1 relishes returning to this tiny, twisty place for the same reason the harbor is stuffed with yachts and a small apartment costs millions. Monaco equals glamor.

Beside the annual F1 gathering, once every two years the Auto Club de Monaco opens the track for cars from its history—using the same facilities and the same army of expert workers as F1. Maryellen and I decided to go.

Prime Viewing

We signed up with Steve Austin’s tours, the same outfit that had impressed us during our trip to the Goodwood Revival. Steve’s been doing this for decades and has locked up some choice viewing spots. At Monaco we were in a suite overlooking the main straight with a spectacular view of the harbor and nearly half the track. We heard it’s the same suite McLaren uses for F1.

When Maryellen got bored with racing cars she could slip out to sight-see or shop. Our hotel was once owned by David Coulthard and was within easy walking distance of the track.

The Roar of Cosworth V8s and Ferrari V10s

Cars first raced at Monaco in 1929 and the prewar Bugattis and Alfas are invited back as one of eight classes. The groups are divided by the leaps of racing technology—the front-engine fifties, the jump to mid-engines, the arrival of aero, the turbo era, and then… it stops. The early 80s turbo cars were added just this year. Fans love the more recent stuff too, of course, and there was a demonstration class of Ferraris led and curated by Jackie Ickx. We were treated to the raucous roar of V10s over lunch.

There was an astonishing number of these valuable cars, 20-30 or so in each of the eight race groups, driven by owners and vintage racing specialists, usually quite well. Yes, it’s true that Jean Alesi crashed a 1969 Ferrari 312 at the Nouvelle Chicane, and there were many other cars stuffed into the Monaco Armco. C’est la vie.

Royal Ceremony Part of the Show

This being Monaco, it was rich with ceremony. Prince Albert took a lap aboard a Bugatti Royale and he presented the trophies for one of the classes. In fact, each of the trophy presentations included a phalanx of brightly uniformed corner workers, national anthems, prize watches, trophies, and a winner’s garland.

I’ve been following F1 since Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio roamed the earth, so seeing this wealth (literally) of racing cars was a feast of nostalgia played out in one of the most storied historical venues. Mark this replay as “fantastic.”

Winning at Monaco

Winning at Monaco takes on special status and the list of winners includes the biggest names in the sport. Graham Hill and Michael Schumacher won five times. Ayrton Senna won six.

AZPCA Region Event Cancelation Policies & Event Organizer Responsibilities

Event Cancellation Policy

Most of our events have attendance limits, and they fill up quickly. Also, we often have waiting lists for those wishing to attend but do not have a secured attendance spot. Increasingly, attendees sign up and simply do not show up for the event without canceling in advance. This behavior impacts the event registrar/organizer, the event facility, and those on the waiting list wanting to attend but cannot. This behavior demonstrates a lack of common courtesy, requiring it to be addressed proactively. On the first occurrence a warning will be issued, and on the second occurrence privileges to attend future events may be impacted. Also, any registration fees for paid events will be forfeited without recourse since the club is charged regardless. The cancelation policy requires cancelation of your registration on MSR for paid or unpaid events a minimum of 7 days prior to the event date, unless there are serious and extenuating emergency circumstances as assessed by the event registrar/organizer. Most importantly, please be courteous to your fellow members so that everyone has an opportunity to enjoy events.

Event Organizer Responsibilities

Event organizers are required to send out a reminder approximately 9 days in advance of any event reminding registrants of the event and summarizing their responsibilities by including the following language:

Thank you for your RSVP. Please note that whether or not there is a registration fee for this event, the restaurant is expecting a certain number of attendees we provide to them in advance and incur cost accordingly If you need to cancel please do so at least one week prior to the event date (being a no-show without notice is rude to other members who wish to attend, the restaurant and to the event organizer). Additionally, if there is a fee or prepayment associated with the event, it will be forfeited if cancelled less than 7 days before the event. Thank you!”

Additionally, event organizers are requested to send out a reminder two or three days prior to the event simply as a courtesy to remind those attending.

IMPORTANT AZPCA Information

Reimbursement & Stipend Policy for AZPCA HPDE Events:

1. Reimbursement is provided to 5 key workers / volunteers for actual round-trip fuel cost (upon providing receipts), and if applicable, $120/night stipend for lodging/ incidentals. If it is not an overnight event and/or a requirement, then spend is reduced to $40. Key workers are volunteers that are attending the event solely to work the event but not participate in the event. Examples could be: Grid worker(s), Safety inspector(s), Timing and Scoring Chair, Safety Chair, Event Chair, CDI. Excludes: Corner workers/flaggers.

2. A corner worker/flagger is offered a $100 stipend or a $175 MSR credit for a future HPDE event, by choice of the flagger.

3. Other non-critical volunteer positions are provided a lunch (lunch will either paid for individually or provided as part of event to all participants).

4. The Event Organizer is reimbursed for fuel costs related to event planning/execution and round-trip fuel cost (upon providing receipts and log).

5. Continue to offer discounted registration fees for approved AZPCA Instructors.

Danielle’s Column - Times Changed, Cars Changed Too!

Every year I go to the Rocky Mountain Driving Event. And, every year, I shake my head at how the vehicles have changed. Because the number of interesting enthusiast rides are fewer and fewer.

First the caveat. This year, Porsche did not participate. Actually, in my 15 or so years, they never have. Nor did BMW or Audi or Mercedes, despite the fact that they have in the past. Now, there actually was one, yes, one car with a manual. An Acura Integra A-Spec. The hot ride? A Dodge Charger R/T 4-Door AWD. The rest? A sea of SUVs and a pickup, all turbo, or hybrid, or hybrid turbo, or EV.

I felt like how I feel when I watch the game show Jeopardy! Oh, I can do pretty well on questions relating to the ‘60s and ‘70s, sometimes even to the ‘80s. But, jump to the ‘90s or more recent decades and I’m lost. At sea. I don’t have a clue. At least on culture and cultural icons, modern slang, mass style trends

I feel the same way, when I boost myself up high and scan out from my all-seeing vantage point to … a long, long hood that disappears somewhere up front . And I try to hustle around a vehicle with lots of road-hugging weight, that the engineers have obviously made a valiant effort to make handle. I just don’t get it, and I probably never wil l.

Then there’s the factory reps. Yes, the reps always show up with their factory steeds. The vehicles never come alone. And it’s always fun to talk them up. Most are in their 20s . The Japanese and Korean reps all live and work in southern California, and it’s one of their first jobs after college, a big step in what they hope will be a thoroughly rewarding career in communications. Which is something I actually do know a bit about. And I have the scars to prove it. And I tell them about it. Maybe they actually listen.

This year, several turned out to be out and out car nerds. I tested them, and they really did answer my questions, quickly and reliably. Not once did any say they had to get back to me. One was actually in the process of searching for the perfect used 911 ….

And I love my fellow Rocky Mountain Automotive Press members. We’re a rag-tag collection. I’m not sure h ow many actually live off their writing income. But we’re all united in the “here I’m normal” syndrome. Fellow nut -cases, who can all espouse on suspension-tuning, exotic powerplants, performance car rumors, styling faux-pas. Being together, catching up and swapping stories is actually a large part of the fun of the annual event.

Back to the vehicles. One thing that strikes you, that you just don’t experience in the real world, is how similar – and different – vehicles feel when you jump from one to another,

and another. This is the routine … hop into one, hop into another. Eat lunch, hop into another.

Hybrid turbo power. A win-win. Was it McLaren who first did it? Well, it’s now trickled down and across many SUVs. Take the new Jeep Cherokee, for example. Just nice, linear, usable power delivery. In a hardly oversized package. It felt tight. And, come to think of it, so did the new Subaru Trail seeker. If I was in the market, it would be a very tough choice. But I’m not.

I was very curious about the new Honda Prelude. Had seen it at a car show this past spring. To my eye, it’s one of very few vehicles that actually look better, far better, in real life than in photos. My fellow car nerds and I could not figure out why. It drove well, too.

So I asked the Honda and Acura reps whether the Prelude and the Integra were really competing against each other. Without hesitation, they both said no, no, no. I got the feeling it wasn’t’ the first time they were asked.

I wanted to ask the Honda rep if they planned a Prelude Type -R. But I already knew the answer – they never, ever comment on future products. Usually, they say we journos know more about future products than they do.

Then, toward the end of the day, I hopped into the new Lexus E S 500e Premium AWD. A luxury EV … car. And, right away, I remembered why I like cars. I could see the ground. I could feel the ground. It drove of a piece, like a car. And … I do have to admit that, off the line, it punched, just like all EVs do. I may have even smiled.

Oh well, the march to counting practical electrons is most-likely inexorable. So be it. I’ll probably be in a rocking chair by then, bemoaning the passage of time. And ruminating on the rumble of big V-8s and the wail of twin-cam sixes. But first, if Sara and Brendan and the team do it again next year, I’ll be there.

The Stuttgart Market Letter

After a strong first four months of the year, May kept the streak alive with another outstanding performance for the Porsche auction market. A total of 725 Porsches crossed the auction block, 75% of them finding new homes, for a total dollar volume of $65,909,440. Compare that to May 2025, when 651 cars generated $42,555,835 at a 71% sell-through rate, and it's clear the market continues to build momentum. Leading the charge were some serious heavy hitters, including a 959 Komfort and no fewer than five Singer commissions. Alongside the usual online auction activity, May also featured Mecum's Indy sale and a pair of Bonhams auctions in Miami and Greenwich, helping produce another exceptional month for the collector Porsche market.

This month belonged to Singer. With six 911s Reimagined by the company crossing the block, you'd have been forgiven for thinking it was Monterey Car Week instead of May. Five of the six found new homes, all were Classic Studies, and every one of them was bid to $1,000,000, or more. Leading the way was "The Michigan Commission," a 1990 911 Coupe finished in Resistance Blue with ghosted stripes and Orange Singer script over a Cognac leather interior. Showing just 386 miles since completion and powered by Singer's desirable 4.0-liter engine with velocity stacks, it hammered for an astounding $1,650,000 all-in, setting a new all-time auction record for a Singer Classic Study.

One of my favorite sales of the month came from the 993 Turbo market. At first glance, this 1996 Japanese-market Turbo looked like a beautifully presented Paint-to-Sample Wimbledon Green example over Classic Grey leather. But a closer look revealed something much more special. Equipped with Porsche Exclusive's WLS 1 package, it was effectively a Turbo S in all but name, combining the X50 Power Kit with Turbo S details that were made available to a select group of Japanese buyers. The 993 Turbo market has been one of the strongest air-cooled segments over the past year, averaging $289,200, although the very best low-mileage examples have continued to stretch that number. This WLS 1 car rewrote the script. After the first example we tracked sold for $350,000 l ast November, this one blasted past every comparable, hammering at $560,000 to set a new twelve-month high for the model.

I always keep a close eye on the 914 market, as it's a model my wife has been lusting after for years. Fourteen examples crossed the block in May, and it was another disappointing month for the 914/6. Just one of the four six-cylinder cars found a new home , and that was a race car at $82,599. The surprise of the month came from a standard four-cylinder 914. This beautifully restored 1971 914 1.7 had undergone a meticulous rotisserie restoration that returned it to its factory Gold Metallic finish, with the gallery documenting every step of the process. While the best 1.7-liter cars have typically traded in the $25,000 to $35,000 range over the past year, this example blew past those numbers, hammering at $72,000.

The 992.2 market finally showed a few signs of life in May after a sluggish start to the year. Most examples that have crossed the block since the updated 911's launch have failed to meet reserve, but three cars finally found buyers this month: a GT3, a Spirit 70, and, perhaps most importantly, the first Carrera T Coupe to sell at auction. Showing just 2,000 miles, the Jet Black Metallic over Black leather example was well optioned with Front Axle Lift, Adaptive Sport Seats, and plenty of additional Race -Tex, bringing its original MSRP to $163,120. It hammered at a final bid of $146,500, a strong result considering previous Carrera T examples with half the mileage had all failed to sell at lower bids.

The 356 market was particularly active in May with 36 cars crossing the block, producing $3,242,161 in dollar volume and a 67% sell-through rate. Leading the way was a truly special 1957 356A 1500 Carrera GT, one of Porsche's legendary four -cam cars. Developed by Ernst Fuhrmann for Porsche's racing program before making its way into the 356 Carrera, the Type 547 engine remains one of the most technically significant powerplants in the company's history. This Aquamarine Blue example stood out

not only for its concours-level restoration and exceptional documentation, but also because it was sold with a genuine Type 547/3 four-cam engine originally fitted to a factory RS-60 Werks Prototype Spyder. With only one other Carrera GT Coupe appearing at auction in the U.S. over the past year, opportunities to acquire one are exceedingly rare. It sold for $511,000 all-in.

Another market that caught my attention in May was the Carrera 3.2 911 Speedster market. While most of the 2,104 Speedsters produced left the factory with Turbo-Look bodywork, Porsche built just 161 to 171 narrow-body examples, primarily to satisfy requests from European dealers. Remarkably, two crossed the auction block in the same month after years of seeing none. The first, a 24,000 km Silver Metallic example offered out of France, failed to sell at a final bid of $210,656. It was followed by a Black-onBlack, 36,300-mile example at Cars & Bids' Velocity Invitational sale that also missed reserve at $166,000. Spoiler alert: a third example crossed the block in June, only to suffer the same fate despite attracting a substantial $550,000 high bid. After going years without seeing a narrow-body Speedster at auction, it's remarkable that three surfaced in such a short period. Now the question is, how long will it be before another appears?

Overall, May continued what has been an impressive first half of 2026, with strong year -over-year gains in dollar volume, unit volume, and sell-through rate. June should keep the momentum rolling with Mecum's Tulsa auction and Barrett-Jackson's Columbus sale joining the usual slate of online auctions. After that, all eyes turn to Monterey Car Week. We're just one month away from the biggest auction event of the year, and if the market continues at its current pace, August should be another record -breaking month.

What’s happening in the Porsche Market Place?

Yes, of course this 1997 911 Carrera S Coupe Vesuvio Edition 6-Speed was going to be our Spotlight Car today, even if it didn’t exceed my high expectations! Why were my expectations so high? Well for one, it showed just 60,000 km (~37k miles) on the clock but most importantly, it is the only Vesuvio I’ve ever seen equipped with Porsche’s X51 Power Kit, which raised horsepower to 300 thanks to an increase in displacement to 3.8 liters through modified cylinder heads and revised camshafts.

We’ve only had four other Vesuvios cross the online auction block in the last twelve months with an average price of $221,000 and a high of $255,000 for a 28,000-mile example with Boxster Red leather. Sure, that car had less mileage and a special interior, but X51, that’s a whole other level. Our Spotlight Car sold at a final bid of $336,000, crossing my $300k high estimate with ease. Well-deserved for a very well presented, and possibly one-of-one car.

Porsche Sprint Trophy PCA is PCA Club Racing’s newest class, offering entry-level and experienced racers the chance to compete as a destination series or as a step in the North American Porsche Motorsport Pyramid. The 2026 calendar will integrate into established PCA Club Racing events at Sebring International Raceway, Lime Rock Park, Watkins Glen International, and Road America.

Porsche Design Unveils the Chronograph 1

– PCA Member Edition

Porsche Design honors the 70th anniversary of the Porsche Club of America with a new edition of the Chronograph 1. Exclusively made for a special community, PCA members now have the opportunity to customize Porsche Design’s most iconic timepiece that was originally designed by F. A. Porsche in 1972.

Creating a special sense of community amongst members, this new timepiece features the PCA logo and “PORSCHE CLUB OF AMERICA” lettering, and optionally a personalized club region name stated on the case back. The made-to-order watch will not only come with a titanium bracelet, but also two sportive textile straps in vibrant Club Blau, one featuring the PCA logo and the other the PCA 70Y anniversary logo.

PCA has 20 registries for those super enthusiastic about their Porsche model

The PCA Registry program was established in 1995 to encourage closer relationships within Porsche model owners in PCA. The program allows PCA members to network with others in their specific area of interest. Sharing of information fosters restoration and maintenance of members’ automobiles. A registry can potentially provide a new resource for historical displays at Parades and other PCA events, along with information for articles in Porsche Panorama. Don’t see a registry for your Porsche? We are also looking for individuals who are interested in starting a registry for a model that doesn’t have an existing registry.

Volunteer some time to help out the program.

No prior experience necessary.

Get involved by volunteering for one of our HPDE program roles below:

Corner Worker/Flagger - COMPENSATED ROLE• $100 cash or a future track day credit ($175 value). Observe cars on track and provide flagging communication to drivers. Radio in to Chief of Course regarding any incidents, issues, and need to flag drivers. 8 hr full day commitment

Driving Instructor- Experienced drivers who are interested in becoming a PCA Instructor.

Grid Marshal- Radio communication with the Chief of Course and Corner Workers to release vehicles onto the track from Pre-Grid, and direct the flow of cars on and off the track. Approx. 2-7 hr commitment (part day to full day).

Lunch Pickup/Prep/Cleanup- Pickup lunch from a nearby location and/or lunch prep and cleanup.

Photographer-Capture photos of the event from great vantage points on the track or paddock for publication in Going Places. Approx. 2 hr commitment.

Pre-Grid-While cars are staged waiting to enter the track, check driver wristbands and confirm other safety guidelines are being met prior to releasing vehicles. Approx. 2-7 hr commitment (part to full day).

Registration-Check in drivers and their guests at the track gate entrance. Approx. 2 hr early AM commitment.

Safety Tech- Using our safety checklist, inspect vehicles and helmets to ensure compliance. Approx. 2 hr early AM commitment

Setup / Breakdown-Assist with unloading/loading and set up of equipment such as tables, chairs, canopy, PA system, etc. Approx. 1 hr commitment, early AM or late afternoon.

Writer-Write an editorial on the event, perhaps with an interview or two from drivers for publication in Going Places. Approx. 2 hr commitment.
