PRESIDENT’S NOTE

I think July’s heat decided to wait until August this year, because the last couple of weeks sure haven’t invited many outdoor activities. Fortunately, AZPCA gives us plenty of ways to enjoy the club without standing outside in 110-degree heat, and our social calendar has stayed active throughout the summer.
As we head into fall, things are about to get very busy again. We currently have 11 driving tours on the horizon before the end of the year, thanks to our Driving Tour Chairperson and the many volunteers who organize and lead these events. Our region has an amazing driving tour program, with everything from off-road adventures and day trips to overnighters and multi-day, out-ofstate tours throughout the year. A tremendous amount of work goes into planning and executing these drives, and I want to thank everyone involved for continuing to bring such a great variety of driving experiences to our members. For our high-performance driving enthusiasts, mark November 28-29 on your calendars for our upcoming two-day autocross weekend. You can participate for one day or both, but I mention it now because it is currently our only performance driving event on the horizon and is sure to fill up early. I’m also pleased to share that at our August Board meeting, the Board voted to establish a new Dealership Liaison Chairperson position, with Frank Grimmelmann serving in the role. Frank has already been fulfilling many of these responsibilities, and formalizing the position ensures that our relationships and communication with our local Porsche dealerships remain an ongoing focus for the region. Thank you to Frank for the work he has already been doing and for continuing to serve AZPCA in this role. Finally, thank you to everyone who has put their name forward as a candidate for our upcoming open Board positions. Elections will open in October, and candidate bios can be found on the AZPCA website. I encourage everyone to take a few minutes to learn about the candidates and participate in the election. We’ll announce the results at our November Membership Meeting at Raven Gastropub. With cooler weather hopefully not too far away and a very full calendar ahead of us, there is plenty to look forward to. Summertime in the Phoenix area is always an interesting part of the year. We see the mass exodus of members who head off to cooler climates and we see a whole host of different and entertaining activities around the greater Phoenix area. This year a couple of our members, Dieter and Susan Guenter went on what can only be described as a truly epic adventure, they took delivery of their new Carrera T in Leipzig, Germany and have been kind enough to share their adventures with us, head over to pages 28-32. We also thought it might be fun to showcase Dieter & Susan so they were kind enough to complete the Meet a Featured Member Q&A, those answers can be found on pages 26-27. Frank G attended the Soul Café PnP and provided us with a little review on page 58. We had 2 versions of the same driving event this past month, Music in the Pines, Emily Lane attended one of the drives and shared her experience with us on page 59. Steve Brenner organized and also wrote an article regarding the Wickenburg-Bagdad drive, his review can be found on page 40. We had a few other driving adventures that sounded very interesting and the photos on our AZPCA website seem to back that up, Kenny hosted the Castle Hot Springs Off-Road drive and Rook and Debbie hosted the Route 66 getaway, it’s worth checking out the photos for sure. Ali and I decided to head off to Santa Fe for our “New Annual” week-away with very good friends and to soak up the rich History that New Mexico has to offer. September is shaping up to be another fun filled month for our AZPCA members, we have: The Monthly meeting at Crust, the 13th annual Anthem Porsches n’ Pancakes event, Weekend getaway to Tubac/Kitt Peak, the annual Cottonwood Wine Tour and this year they have added a Train Ride just to stir things up a little, a Judges School and lastly another Off-Road adventure. Be sure to read through Going Places to see all the fun filled events listed and the great articles.

Your Club needs you - Volunteer positions ARIZONA REGION EXECUTIVE APPOINTED POSITIONS The Arizona Region Board of Directors are still looking for members to volunteer to become part of the Team in filling the four appointed positions listed below: If anyone is interested in any of the positions, please contact the Region President, Dan Bouet, at president@az.pca.org Equipment Chair – Responsibilities: Coordinate with different event Chairs to ensure that equipment is available to event coordinators and that each Region item is correctly catalogued and stored correctly. This person will also facilitate delivery and/or pickup to club functions using various methods available. Technical Advisor – Responsibilities: Provide technical expertise to the Region members regarding routine Porsche maintenance and fielding questions regarding the various vehicle system and components. Provide assistance to the Tech Session Coordinator with the planning and scheduling of the tech sessions. Contribute to Going Places Newsletter with monthly tech articles. Road Rally Chair – Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate, and/or select a Rally Event Chair to facilitate Road Rallies for the Club members to enjoy in a safe & friendly competition environment driving the Porsche car on the public highways within the scope of all Arizona Revised Statutes. The road rally category type will be at the discretion of the rally chair from a Gimmick Rally to a Navigational Rally, pursuant to the National PCA Region Procedures Manual (RPM). PCA Juniors Program Coordinator – Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate, promote and facilitate the activities for the PCA Junior members to participate in the Club social activities, pursuant to the National PCA RPM.

Candidates for President STEVE BRENNER - I am respectfully announcing my candidacy for President of the AZPCA. I have now been a member of the AZPCA for three years. I have organized 9 driving tours over the last two years and have written several articles for the Going Places monthly publication. I enjoy the process of being an integral part of the AZPCA. I know that the events we provide could not exist without the help of our leaders. I have enjoyed working with everyone at the AZPCA and I see the commitment that everyone brings to the table. I want to be a continued part of that process From my previous work in the software industry as a Project Manager and Specialist I understand the leadership and teamwork it takes to always be at your best. For the opportunity to be President of the AZPCA, I would always be at my best and help our team deliver the best experience possible for our members. As a personal philosophy, I know that you can view certain organizations as great but it’s really the people behind the organization that make it great. We already have so many great people at the AZPCA and I would embrace the opportunity to be President and help maintain our standard of excellence. Thank you in advance for your consideration. STEVE SAPARETO - I am a semi-retired Medical Physicist and have been active in the PCA for over 30 years. I have been President of the Southern Arizona Region and twice President of the Arizona Region and been on the Board of Directors as a Director at Large. I have been an editor of Going Places and have organized Flight twice. I have been an instructor for DE including setting up our first classroom program for DE. I have organized many tours over the years including Hot Air Tours to New Mexico and Off-Road tours. I currently own six Porsches (but only 4 are running). I believe my historic experience would be of benefit to the club and would be honored to serve again. Candidate for Vice President
BILL STUBBS - Hello friends. I am honored to run for Vice-President, Arizona Region, Porsche Club of America (AZPCA) for the 2027-2029 term. I have been an AZPCA member for more than four years. After my first year, I was appointed Assistant Registrar for Motorsports events, providing valuable insight into Board operations while allowing me to meet many of our members. I also served as the event coordinator’s right-hand man for the All-Porsche Grand Display, helping automate operations and coordinate with the Town of Carefree. In 2025, I was appointed Concours Chairman, where Flight 47 attracted 92 cars and was successfully completed on budget, and am now Flight 48 Concours Chair. Professionally, I am retired but continue consulting in the semiconductor industry. As a Mechanical and Software Professional Engineer educated at Cal Poly–San Luis Obispo, my career has spanned petroleum, aerospace, industrial, and semiconductor industries, including serving as Global Product Manager for ultra-high-purity gas distribution systems used worldwide. Personally, I have been passionate about cars since my teenage years, owning, building, and restoring everything from muscle cars and motorcycles to off-road vehicles, sports cars, and boats. If it has an engine, I’ve probably worked on it. I believe AZPCA’s future is bright. My priorities are attracting younger enthusiasts, embracing technology, expanding the events members enjoy, and continuing to strengthen our outstanding driving tours, DE, AX, Concours, Porsche & Pancakes, Holiday Party, and Ladies’ Events. My philosophy is simple: AZPCA exists for its members. Our resources should deliver the greatest possible value, exceptional experiences, and responsible stewardship of every club dollar.
I would be honored to earn your vote as your next AZPCA Vice President.
Candidates for Directors at Large (Choose Two)
JEANNE SNYDER BAKER - Ever since Mark Baker brought me to my first monthly meeting in 2018, I have been continually impressed with the active, welcoming, and engaging nature of this club. We have incredibly dedicated volunteers, and the sense of community and enthusiasm among our members is truly something special. I believe that the more we become involved in leading and supporting events, the more rewarding our experience becomes. It has been a joy to help create and administer memorable gatherings for our members, and I especially value the opportunity to encourage and welcome new members into active participation. My 45 years in independent school education provided many opportunities to take on leadership roles and serve on regional and national governing boards. In addition, I have spent ten years volunteering with Bob’s Free Bikes, reinforcing my commitment to supporting charitable efforts whenever possible.
I have greatly enjoyed assisting in the organization of club events, and I hope that my experience, energy, and perspective will make a meaningful contribution to the Board. Thank you for your consideration. STEVE JACKSON - Having been an active member of the region since 2015, I am eager to transition my passion for the marque into a structured leadership role that serves our general membership.
The role of a Director-at-Large demands adaptability, collaboration, and a willingness to spearhead special projects that support the club’s evolving needs. My unique background perfectly aligns with this mandate. On the track and road, my garage reflects the full spectrum of our club’s enthusiast base—spanning the daily-driver utility of my Macan GTS to the pure high-performance dynamics of my 911 Carrera and Turbo S platforms. Professionally, I bring 35 years of executive experience as the owner and operator of a long-term care facility in Washington State. Managing every aspect of that business taught me how to navigate complex regulatory compliance, oversee substantial budgets, mitigate risk, and lead diverse teams. This deep operational blueprint allows me to offer the AZPCA Board immediate capability when vetting vendor contracts, optimizing regional event budgets, and ensuring risk-management protocols are flawlessly executed. I am fully prepared to dedicate my time, strategic perspective, and business acumen to maintaining the high operational standards of Zone 8. Thank you for your time, consideration, and ongoing dedication to our region.

Candidates for Directors at Large (Choose Two) LEE MARTUCCI - An old African Proverb says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” The suggestion here is to go together so we go far. However, if you’re like me, sometimes you want to go fast (e.g. Track Day) and sometimes you want to go far (e.g. tour drives). Both are fun and in this club you can pick one or the other… or both! That’s what I love about the AZPCA and the fact that we get to share our enthusiasm for these beautiful cars and make new friends. A little about my background: I grew up back east (primarily PA) and always loved cars. While in school I had a picture of a red 911 Turbo over my desk as motivation to work hard! I attended Lehigh University on a wrestling scholarship and graduated with a degree in marketing. I spent the next 44 years in the building materials business where I held several leadership positions in sales and marketing. I recently retired and enjoy staying active including PCA events, golf, travel, and volunteering. I joined the AZPCA in December of 2024 and my wife Trina and I try to attend as many events as possible. I currently drive a Dark Blue Metallic 2015 Boxster S and I’m already thinking about my next Porsche. As for the Director-At-Large position, I believe my background in Sales & Marketing together with my creative and organizational skills would serve the club well. I appreciate your support and let’s keep making the club better and stronger!
STEVE SHAIN - Since joining AZPCA in 2022, I have enjoyed being part of a community that shares a passion for Porsche, driving, motorsports, and the friendships that develop through our club activities. The experiences I’ve had with fellow members have inspired me to give back by serving on the Board. My Porsche journey has included ownership of a 2021 Gentian Blue 911 Carrera 4S Manual, a 2022 Guards Red 911 Carrera GTS, a 2025 Metallic Volcano Grey Macan GTS, and my current 2023 Racing Yellow 911 Carrera GTS, which I have personalized with performance and appearance modifications. Through these vehicles and club events, I have developed an even greater appreciation for the enthusiasm, knowledge, and camaraderie that make our club exceptional. Professionally, I served as Chief Operating Officer of Southwest Automated Security, a successful wholesale distributor specializing in access control, CCTV, perimeter security, and gate operators. I retired in 2021 and currently serve as a member of the company’s Board of Directors, where I help guide strategic planning, operations, and long-term growth. These experiences have strengthened my leadership, decision-making, and collaborative skills—qualities I would bring to the Director-at-Large position. My passion for motorsports extends beyond Porsche ownership. For more than 12 years, I served as a course observer for CART, INDYCAR, IRL, SCCA, and IMSA events at Phoenix International Raceway, and numerous racetracks continentally and internationally, gaining firsthand experience with the dedication teamwork, and attention to detail required to support world-class racing events. As Director-at-Large, I will work to represent the interests of all members, encourage participation in club events, support new member engagement, and help ensure that AZPCA continues to grow and thrive. I am committed to listening to members, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment, and supporting the Board in delivering outstanding experiences for Porsche enthusiasts throughout Arizona. I would be honored to earn your support and the opportunity to serve our club.

2027 AZPCA BOD Election Voting Instructions Here’s what you need to know! We are using an on-line voting app, “Election Runner”. On September 20th, the candidates, along with their bios and pictures will be posted on our AZPCA website and an e-Blast email with the candidates, bios and pictures will also be sent to the membership. Voting will officially open on October 19th and end on October 30th. The “Election Runner’ app will send all active AZPCA members an email from: noreply@electionrunner.com and subject: “Your Invitation to Vote in the Election: 2027 AZPCA Board of Directors Ballot”
There will be a “Click here to Vote” button at the bottom of your email message. When you click on the button, it will take you directly to the ballot to vote.

Driving Tour is a relaxing drive in your Porsche, to an interesting destination in and around the Phoenix metro area, and sometimes to further destinations around the state and beyond. Our drives typically feature beautiful scenery and great Porsche driving roads. Driving Tours are non-competitive events, meant to provide enjoyment with your car in the company of other Porsche owners sharing an interesting experience. The Arizona Region offers many driving tours throughout the year. The list below shows tours planned for the upcoming months. Please note that dates and other details are subject to change. September 11 — Weekend Getaway to Tubac and Kitt Peak ** Waitlist available ** A relaxing weekend getaway to Tubac, AZ with exciting drives, sightseeing, optional golf, and great food. We’re staying two nights at the historic Tubac Golf Resort & Spa. Saturday there are several options, including an organized drive, a casual golf tournament, or sightseeing, shopping, and wine tasting on your own. Sunday we’ll take the very twisty and well-maintained mountain road to Kitt Peak National Observatory to enjoy spectacular views, a one-hour tour of the observatory, and lunch. September 17 — Verde Valley Train/Wine Event Cottonwood/Clarkdale ** Waitlist available ** Drive to Cottonwood/Clarkdale and then ride the rails into scenic wilds. The Verde Canyon Railroad offers a lovely wilderness excursion into an area of great natural beauty, following the curves of the Verde River, 20 miles through a red rock canyon. The trip is full of unusual geology, abundant wildlife, lush greenery, and Native-American ruins, on vintage rails aboard vintage train cars. September — 26 Four Peaks Off-Road Driving Tour Bring your 4-wheel drive Porsche for an off-road tour on unmaintained dirt roads and trails through beautiful back country. The drive will take us across Four Peaks mountain range to Roosevelt Lake where we will have lunch at the Butcher Hook Café. This will be a sometimes very bumpy but relatively easy road for your Cayenne or Macan (or any other four-wheel drive vehicle). October 11 — Twilight Dinner Drive to the Cove at Bartlett Lake Join your PCA friends on an enjoyable, scenic drive through Fountain Hills, Rio Verde, and North Scottsdale to Bartlett Lake, for a special evening dinner at The Cove Restaurant overlooking the lake. The drive will follow some familiar roads to the lake but will include some added twisty bits to spice up the driving experience for you in your Porsche. Oct. 21: Ladies Drive to Jerome & Cottonwood (8:00AM-2:00PM) October 24 — Poker Run: Scottsdale to South Mountain This event will be a leisurely drive from Scottsdale to Dobbins Lookout on South Mountain and onto our lunch at the Electric Pickle in Tempe. This drive will include a Poker Run – you pick up five cards along the route - and a charitable fundraiser. 50% of the prize money goes to charity and 50% to our lucky winner. October 28 - 30 — Fall Colors Tour to La Posada & Flagstaff The fifth annual “Fall Colors” overnighter driving tour is scheduled this year for late October. This time we will change it up, spending the first night at the historic La Posada Hotel in Winslow. The next day, we will drive to Flagstaff, with visits to Sunset Crater and Wupatki National Monument on the way to the 4-Diamond Little America Hotel. An Experience of a Lifetime - European Delivery Program Bucket List Item Fulfilled: A Porsche Factory Delivery and an Alpine Adventure By Dieter Guenter For Porsche enthusiasts, few experiences sit higher on the bucket list than taking delivery of a new 911 in Germany and driving it home through some of Europe's most spectacular roads. In the summer of 2026, Susan and I finally got our chance. The Long Road to a German Delivery The idea began more than a year earlier. What if we could combine a Porsche Werksabholung, or factory delivery, with a grand tour through Germany, Austria, and Italy? We would drive the Alps, attend a fighter pilot meeting of F104 pilots trained in the US (Luke AFB) and celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary, visit some old school friends and have fun in cities we don’t even know. Simple enough in theory. Finding a Porsche 911 Carrera T with a manual transmission and securing a German delivery turned out to be anything but simple. We contacted several dealers, specified our configuration, and then... not much happened. Months passed with little feedback, and by the end of 2025 we were close to giving up. Then came the call; in January, Valerie at Porsche North Scottsdale reached out. "We have an allocation. Let's get started." Within days the order was in. Our major request was a July delivery in Germany. Somehow the stars aligned. The car was built in April and held specifically for our summer pickup. The dream was suddenly becoming real. Why Leipzig? Most enthusiasts automatically think of Stuttgart for delivery, but we chose Leipzig. Why? Track time, the Porsche Experience Center Leipzig offers much more than a handover. It includes test drives, professional instruction, an off-road course, and access to Porsche's latest impressive factory complex. Plus, Leipzig was a city we had never visited. Arriving in Germany We flew into Frankfurt on June 26, arriving just as Europe emerged from a record-breaking heat wave. Frankfurt had reached an astonishing 107°F, making the air-conditioned Marriott downtown feel like a luxury oasis. A few days later we rented a Mercedes-Benz E-Class and headed east to Leipzig. The autobahns in eastern Germany are modern, smooth, and noticeably less crowded than many of their western counterparts. Needless to say, the Mercedes got a proper autobahn workout. Discovering Leipzig Porsche booked us into the Steigenberger Hotel in downtown Leipzig, an excellent choice. Leipzig turned out to be one of the hidden gems of our trip. The city is wonderfully walkable, blending historic architecture with modern development. Music history is everywhere. Johann Sebastian Bach spent much of his career here and is buried in St. Thomas Church. Delivery Day: Rain, Rain, and More Rain Of course, after days of beautiful weather, the forecast for July 1 called for heavy rain. And it delivered. As our taxi pulled up to the Porsche Experience Center, sheets of rain poured from the sky. Initially we were disappointed. After all, who imagines taking delivery of a brand-new 911 in a downpour? As it turns out, Porsche knew exactly what it was doing. | 28 |
An Experience of a Lifetime - European Delivery Program Our instructor and guide for the day, Jacob, welcomed us and explained the agenda: track driving, Cayenne off-road experience, vehicle handover, lunch, and then the open road. At least that was the plan. Learning the 911 Carrera T in the Wet The first activity was track time in a factory red Carrera T. Jacob demonstrated a few laps before handing over the keys. I will admit that my first instinct was caution. The last thing I wanted was to become the guy who put a brand-new 911 T into the grass before even receiving his own car. But lap by lap confidence grew. The rain provided a masterclass in vehicle dynamics. The manual transmission quickly felt natural again, and I discovered Porsche's AutoBlip function, a feature that perfectly matches revs on downshifts. Jacob's generation may not see the need for traditional heel-and-toe techniques. Us old-school drivers might still debate that point. Either way, it works brilliantly. Susan declined to drive but accepted a few passenger laps with Jacob behind the wheel. She loved every minute and, technically speaking, probably experienced higher speeds than I did. Playing in the Mud Next came the Cayenne off-road course. What an experience. The route crosses terrain on a former military training area adjacent to the factory. Steep climbs, dramatic side slopes, deep mud, and water crossings showcase just how capable Porsche's SUV really is. At one point we tackled a 45-degree side angle that felt far steeper from inside the vehicle than it sounds on paper. Messy? Absolutely. Fun? Even more so.
Meeting "Trudie" Finally, the big moment arrived. There was no theatrical stage show or dramatic curtain reveal. Instead, we walked into one of Porsche's elegant delivery bays. And there she was. A stunning Cartagena Yellow 911 Carrera T. Susan immediately named her Trudie, continuing her long-standing tradition of naming every car we own. After admiring every detail, reality intervened. The license plates hadn't arrived. No plates meant no driving that day. Thankfully, we had already planned to spend another day in Leipzig, so it was hardly a tragedy. In fact, Porsche turned the delay into another adventure.

An Experience of a Lifetime - European Delivery Program Sliding Around in a Hybrid GTS While waiting for paperwork, Jacob gathered our group and offered additional driving exercises – the Skid Pad. Soon I found myself attempting controlled slides in a Cartagena Yellow 911 GTS Hybrid. First with traction control off, a challenge to control the skid with that power, I only managed a few skids but never totally around the skid pad. I did get the lesson from Jacob at the end showcasing it can be done – throttle control. Traction control on - The experience was educational and entertaining. Every time I tried to get a little too enthusiastic, Porsche's electronics politely but firmly stepped in. The car seemed to say: "Interesting idea. But no." One Last Surprise Just when we thought the day was over, Jacob arrived with one final offer. A hot lap. The car of choice was Porsche's new Cayenne Coupe Turbo Electric producing an incredible 850kw/1,156 PS. Three tons of luxury. Supercar acceleration. Physics-defying performance. The launch alone was enough to leave us speechless. On the track we reached roughly 220 km/h, significantly faster than I had managed in the Carrera T. It was an unforgettable glimpse into Porsche's electric future. Three Weeks, 2,300 Miles, and Endless Smiles After a stop for paint protection film installation at a local Leipzig dealer, our adventure truly began and the sun was back out again. For the next three weeks we explored Germany, Austria, and Italy, covering more than 2,300 miles through some of Europe's greatest driving roads. The Carrera T proved wonderfully different from our 2023 Targa GTS. A little lighter, a little louder, a little firmer, and with the involvement that only a manual gearbox can provide. One of the first highlights was the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, a bucket-list drive for any enthusiast. Climbing toward Austria's highest mountain, the road twists through countless hairpins while offering breathtaking views of glaciers, peaks, and deep valleys. Early in the morning, before the tourist traffic appeared, it felt as if the road had been reserved exclusively for us and our yellow 911 even though we had to deal with some bicyclist on the pass. What are parents feeding their kids that they decide to go up a mountain pass to 2500m plus on a bicycle? From there, we headed toward Cortina d'Ampezzo, the jewel of the Italian Dolomites. The roads became narrower, more technical, and even more scenic. Every turn seemed to reveal another postcard view. The route through the Dolomites read like a greatest-hits collection of European mountain passes: Cortina → Passo Falzarego → Marmolada → Canazei → Passo Pordoi → Corvara → Plan de Gralba → Wolkenstein → Santa Cristina Each pass had its own personality.

Falzarego offered flowing curves and spectacular mountain vistas. Pordoi delivered endless switchbacks climbing above the tree line. Around Canazei and Corvara, the roads wound through dramatic rock formations that looked almost unreal in the sunlight.

The Dolomites became our favorite section of the trip. The combination of perfect pavement, manageable traffic, charming villages, and world-class scenery makes it easy to understand why so many automotive manufacturers use these roads to develop and test their sports cars. The adventure continued westward: Jaufenpass → St. Leonhard → Timmelsjoch → Hochgurgl → Leermoos If there was a single driver's road that stood out, it might have been Timmelsjoch. Connecting Austria and Italy, it combines high-altitude scenery with challenging corners and long, flowing sections that reward smooth inputs and momentum. This was exactly the kind of road where the Carrera T shined. The manual gearbox suddenly made perfect sense. Rather than chasing speed, the enjoyment came from selecting exactly the right gear, matching revs on downshifts, and carrying momentum through corner after corner. The car felt alive. We generally limited our driving to about four hours per day. That may not sound like much, but once photo stops, coffee breaks, scenic overlooks, and long Italian lunches are added to the schedule, it becomes a wonderfully relaxed pace. We typically stayed one or two nights at each destination, allowing time to explore the towns as well as the roads between them. Being summer, we shared the mountains with cyclists, motorcycles, hikers, and plenty of vacation traffic. The secret to Alpine driving is: Start early. By the end of the trip, Trudie may not have been the most powerful 911 in the Alps, but she certainly earned the title of one of the most well-traveled. Autobahn runs at 140 mph, countless mountain passes, three countries, and over 2,300 memorable miles had transformed a brand-new car into something much more personal. A Golden Anniversary and Fighter Pilot Re-union Beyond the driving, this trip included two meaningful events for us: A weekend meeting of German Navy and Air Force fighter pilots trained in the US on the F104 Starfighter at Luke AFB (including yours truly, before I flew US Navy F4s and F14 Tomcats), it was the 30th anniversary of that meeting. Seeing old friends and fellow pilots was fun and provided an opportunity to reconnect with some of them. However, the main other event was our 50th wedding anniversary that we celebrated with family at the very castle where our wedding reception was held half a century earlier. We also visited the 12th century small church where we exchanged vows.

An Experience of a Lifetime - European Delivery Program Saying Goodbye in Stuttgart Eventually every road trip reaches its final destination. We delivered Trudie to Porsche's shipping facility near Stuttgart, where nearly twenty other 911s waited for transport to Bremerhaven and ultimately the United States.
Before leaving, we spent one more day immersed in Porsche history: a factory tour, a visit to the magnificent Porsche Museum, and lunch at Christophorus Restaurant overlooking the legendary collection. Then it was back into another Mercedes E-Class for the drive to Frankfurt and the flight home. Comfortable? Certainly. But after three weeks in a Carrera T, it felt very different. The Verdict A Porsche factory delivery is about much more than receiving a new car. It transforms the vehicle from a purchase into a memory. Our 911 Carrera T will arrive in Arizona with over 2,300 miles already on the odometer, every one of them earned on autobahns, Alpine passes, and roads filled with personal history. A bucket-list dream, a 50th anniversary celebration, and a Porsche adventure rolled into one. Not bad for three weeks behind the wheel of a Cartagena yellow 911 named Trudie.

Drive Review - Wickenburg Bagdad Loop It was a perfect day for another drive on the Wickenburg Bagdad Loop. The AZPCA actually had 2 drives on
August 1st. This drive was rescheduled from an earlier rainout and the other drive was the “Music in the Pines Driving Tour”. As expected our attendance was split between the 2 events, though we did have a good cross section of attendees. We had some seasoned Road Warriors that love this Loop, we had some first timers on this Loop and we welcomed some new members to the AZPCA as well.
With the monsoon season taking a welcome break, we had great weather. Our meeting started at 8:00 and after the usual formalities we were on our way. With just 12 cars in tow, with the sun at our backs, we headed west on AZ74. It was an easy decision keeping those cabriolet tops down on this first stretch.
At our first break in Wickenburg the temperatures started rising, the sun was getting stronger and eventually the cabriolet tops went up. Except for 1 car that kept it down. I’m sure that they brought plenty of sunscreen and there was no need to worry. After the break our first pass was on AZ-89 snaking back and forth along Granite Mountain. Always a thrilling road. After getting the group back together in Yarnell we continued north on AZ-89 enjoying the scenery with the mix of curves and straightaways. From there we took a left on AZ-15 where a pick-up truck was doing 10 mph under the speed limit was kind enough to pull over and let us pass. Once we reached Kirkland we then proceeded on to AZ-96 towards our second break in Bagdad. This stretch has always been one of my favorite roads as it passes through the Yavapai County Rangelands with its many tight turns and thrills. | 40 |
Drive Review - Wickenburg Bagdad Loop Once we reached our break at the Bagdad Bashas’ it was very evident that the first 2 legs of our journey was a big hit because both our first timers and new members were all smiles. Though for most of the break we huddled close to the store to keep in the shade.
When our break was over we then headed back towards Wickenburg on AZ-97, aka “The Roller Coaster”. Seeing again by all the smiles when we reached our group photo spot, it was very clear that everyone enjoyed AZ-97 and they all agreed that the name “Roller Coaster” fits perfectly. I especially like as you are reaching the end of AZ-97 there are 2 more dips thrown in just before reaching US-93. That is definitely like on a real roller coaster where they throw in a couple of dips at the end before pulling in to the platform.
Lastly we ended the drive at Hassayampa Smokehouse Barbeque in Wickenburg. They did a great job in accommodating us and we look forward to dining there again in the future when we book another popular ride on the Wickenburg-Bagdad Loop. Also kudos to Frederick “Ricky” Stroupe our only SUV driver and designated Sweep. With no drama though, we did make things easy for Ricky. But he was like an old pro in answering my calls and letting me know that we did not lose any drivers along the way. Definitely another great drive and lunch! We are definitely going to have repeat customers the next time we book this drive. Thank you for reading.

About the NEW Autocross events:
Join us for our AZPCA autocross at The Phoenix Raceway Location address is 7602 Jimmie Johnson Dr, Avondale, AZ 85323 Non-Porsches are welcome to participate. Multi lap format. Contact our NEW event co-ordinator Ealing Jahn for more information. $99 for the event - there is no on site registration. If you wish to have someone, who is not an entrant, over 18 years old and who is an immediate household member, as a passenger for a taste of autox please pre-register and pay the $10 fee. Drivers can invite guests only during pre-registration who must complete all waivers, but cannot be a passenger. Gates open at 7:00 am. First car out at 8:30 am. Rental helmets can be reserved during the online registration process. Sorry but no go-karts, Polaris type, formula or other exoskeleton vehicles permitted. A link to the Porsche waiver will be sent to you via email, information on the Phoenix Raceway paper waiver will be provided in your event receipt and is available on site. AZPCA AUTOCROSS – MORE THAN JUST CORNERS AND CONES!!
Autocross is the sport of trying to navigate your car through a defined course of pylons usually on a large parking lot, faster than your competition.
Autocross courses are set up using soft orange traffic pylon cones (which will not damage your car) and events are run at speeds usually between 40-65 MPH, usually all in 2nd gear. Autocross is a “performance driving event” and a safe way to learn how to drive your car at its limits. You not only learn how to handle your car at speeds that you drive daily, but you also: Gain confidence in your driving ability. Learn the limits of your car’s brakes. Learn correct seating, hand, and feet positions. Learn the limits of your car’s tire adhesion. Most importantly, autocross is a social gathering of friends with a common interest and is simply a ton of fun! Your family is welcome and there are usually plenty of people to socialize with. HPDE - DRIVING YOUR PORSCHE ON THE TRACK Expand your car control skills and explore the capabilities of your Porsche on a racetrack in a safe, controlled environment with no speed limits! AZPCA’s HPDE & TT program (that’s short for High Performance Driver Education and Time Trials) is all about experiencing your Porsche on a road circuit. AZPCA provides personal driving instructors for new participants to guide them through the day. Our instructors will navigate you along the road circuit, teach you the fundamentals of driving at track speeds, but also keep you in a comfort zone so you have a good time. There are flaggers on track, just like at a real racing event. The club also arranges an ambulance and tow truck on site for emergencies. For the HPDE events, four groups of approximately 10-25 drivers are formed based on experience levelBeginner, Intermediate, Experienced, Advanced. Grouping allows everyone attending to have a good time. Beginners don’t have to stress about having little/no experience- chances are, there are several other drivers in the same group just starting out. Based on instructor evaluation, you are advanced to the next group up when appropriate. Sometimes this is after one day, or sometimes it takes a several events. Higher run groups typically mean more speed but with a better, practiced skill set to control the speed safely. This keeps track days exciting for you as you advance your skill set. While this is definitely NOT racing, there is a natural tendency to evaluate yourself to other drivers in your group, but HPDE is not structured to award “fast” times. To satisfy the competitive nature in you, we offer options for all levels of expertise.

AZPCA Four Peaks Off Road Tour (for Cayennes and Macans – and other 4-wheel drive vehicles) Sept 26 2026 8:30 am
Join us in your 4-wheel drive Porsche for an off-road tour across Four Peaks to Roosevelt Lake. We will meet at the Sunnyside Breakfast Lounge by 8:30am for a drivers meeting (come earlier of you want a great breakfast) and we will plan to leave by 9:00am. We will drive up Ellsworth Rd to the Beeline Highway to the entrance to the Four Peaks trail (Forest Road 143). The drive will take us across Four Peaks mountain range to State Route 188 at Roosevelt Lake where we will have lunch at the Butcher Hook Restaurant (State Route 188, Sign #259, Tonto Basin, AZ). We will then return to Phoenix via the Beeline Highway. The tour will be on Class 1 and 2 unmaintained dirt roads and trails for about three hours through beautiful backcountry and should be manageable by everyone. We will provide some spectacular photo ops.
This will be a sometimes very bumpy but relatively easy road for your Cayenne or Macan (or any other four-wheel drive vehicle). Street tires will be fine but expect to get your car very dirty! It is recommended (not essential) to reduce your tire pressures to about 28-30 psi for a more comfortable ride but you will need a way to refill them when we reach Roosevelt Lake. We will have some tire inflators available. Remember to bring plenty of water! All drivers will be required to download, print, complete and bring the PCA Off-Road Self-Inspection Checklist. All registrants will receive more detailed instructions about a week before the drive. AZPCA Off-Road Adventures - The Dirtier, the Better!
Arizona Region is planning for other Off-Road Driving Tours this year with plans to do
Four Peaks possibly in May/June, and later this year, Castle Hot Springs and tentatively Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. Some of the outings may include picnicking on the trail. The future dates will be announced in this publication.

Get involved by volunteering for one of our HPDE program roles below: Corner Worker/Flagger - COMPENSATED ROLE• $100 cash or a future track day credit ($175 value). Observe cars on track and provide flagging communication to drivers. Radio in to Chief of Course regarding any incidents, issues, and need to flag drivers. 8 hr full day commitment Driving Instructor-Experienced drivers who are interested in becoming a PCA Instructor. Grid Marshal-Radio communication with the Chief of Course and Corner Workers to release vehicles onto the track from Pre-Grid, and direct the flow of cars on and off the track. Approx. 2-7 hr commitment (part day to full day). Lunch Pickup/Prep/Cleanup-Pickup lunch from a nearby location and/or lunch prep and cleanup. Photographer-Capture photos of the event from great vantage points on the track or paddock for publication in Going Places. Approx. 2 hr commitment. PnP Review - Soul Cafe’ Lucky 8/8 at Soul Café: Porsches, Milestones & Breakfast
Sometimes everything simply comes together—and our AZPCA breakfast at Soul Café in North Scottsdale on
“Lucky 8/8” was one of those mornings. With an early 7:30 AM start, even the Arizona summer cooperated, giving us remarkably pleasant weather and the opportunity to enjoy Soul Café’s lovely outdoor patio before the day heated up. Arriving early also gave us the rare satisfaction of beating almost everyone there—although one determined early arrival still managed to beat us! The morning featured several special moments. Eric Dobrzynski joined us with a particularly exciting new addition: his 2026 Porsche 911, won in the National PCA Raffle and picked up just two days earlier. Needless to say, Eric and his new 911 attracted plenty of attention and conversation.
We also had a much more important milestone to celebrate as Jack and Loretta Aman joined us while marking their remarkable 60th wedding anniversary. Sixty years together is certainly something worth celebrating, and we were delighted they chose to share part of their anniversary weekend with their Porsche friends. And then there were Jan and Jerry Mackulak, who somehow found room in their schedule to join us between several world cruises this year alone—proof that even extensive globe-trotting shouldn’t get in the way of a good AZPCA breakfast! Soul Café proved an excellent setting for the morning, with its attractive outdoor seating, wide variety of breakfast choices and an attentive staff that took great care of our group. Great weather, great Porsches, good food and, most importantly, great friends made Lucky 8/8 at Soul Café another memorable AZPCA morning—and a perfect example of what Going Places with the Club is all about.

Drive Review - Music in the Pines Music in the Pines Driving Tour Wind In my hair Shifting and drifting Mechanical music Adrenaline surge - Neil Peart/Rush
On the first day of August, Arizona Region members left the heat of the Valley for the (relatively) cooler temps of Northern Arizona to enjoy some music in the pines. Our engines sang along up the grades and through the turns. I must admit to cracking a window open to enjoy the mechanical music of all the beautiful Porsches from my perch at the back of the pack. The drive up to the Sip at 5600 resort and restaurant in Pine, AZ was lovely. We had relatively light traffic on the way up, and there were plenty of fun curves to navigate. Oh, it was so nice to see the outside temperature read-out on my dash drop as we climbed.
Once we arrived, the folks at Sip at 5600 did a great job of helping us get our cars parked in a rather full lot - it’s clearly a very popular spot. We were then treated to a delicious lunch and music of a different sort, as we enjoyed the sounds of the band, PF Flyers. They covered a variety of hits from different decades that had our toes tapping. It was a bit warm, but the 90s sure felt better than the triple digits down in the Valley. There was plenty of shade provided by large market umbrellas, a lovely view of the pines, and friendly service to go with the great food and atmosphere. What an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon with friends! A big thank you to our tour leaders Rook and Debbie Younger for being so well organized, and making our adventure as smooth as possible. A second-generation Italian, Sharon Lunardi is deeply attuned to equal parts family and food. Sharon is very familiar with the cuisine and culture of the Tuscany/Genoa region. Moving to Arizona in 2009, Sharon graduated from Le Cordon Bleu with a degree in Baking and Patisserie. Her experience in catering stems from working with Santa Barbara Catering in Tempe. In Paradise Valley, she has spent four years running the Whole Foods bakery before joining the Classic Cooking team. The award is designated as the Aman-Steele Award to recognize the life7me contribu7on of Jack Aman and Ken Steele to the Club. The award is presented at the AZPCA annual dinner to the enthusiast of the year demonstra7ng an excep7onal level of contribu7on to the Club. Candidates are to be nominated by any club member including a descrip7on of the nominees unique and significant contribu7ons to the club in the current year and voted upon by the Board of Directors at their October Board Mee7ng in an execu7ve session following the main board mee7ng to maintain the decision in confidence un7l the presenta7on of the award at the December Annual Holiday Party.
Legacy Award
The Annual Legacy Award established in 2023 recognizes an AZPCA Member or members working as a team who historically and consistently over a decade or more has or have contributed significantly to excep7onally suppor7ng the club and its membership at a significant level. The award may recognize this contribu7on from a current ac7ve member or posthumously for a member’s contribu7on. This award is nominated and voted upon by the Board of Directors who may at their discre7on seek guidance form the general membership, especially those who have historically been involved with the club and were able to personally observe those who have made a significant consistent contribu7on that is above and beyond usual expecta7ons. The Board of Directors will consider nomina7ons and make the final decision in an execu7ve session following the main board mee7ng to maintain the decision in confidence un7l the presenta7on of the award at the December Holiday Party Mee7ng.

AZPCA REGION eNEWS AZPCA Region publishes several emails each month to notify the members of the upcoming social and driving events and other pertinent Region business and activity information. These emails are known as eNews email blasts and will be identified by the PCA Banner as you see above. It has come to the Region’s attention that several hundred members are not receiving the AZPCA Region’s eNews email blasts. This may be because the PCA National Office may not have your correct email address or there may be a technical problem with your email address. Or the member at one time elected to opt out of receiving the emails and would like to begin receiving them. AZPCA Region would like to help the members in resolving this issue of you not receiving the eNews emails. IMPORTANT AZPCA Information
AZPCA Region Event Cancelation Policies & Event Organizer Responsibilities Event Cancellation Policy Most of our events have attendance limits, and they fill up quickly. Also, we often have waiting lists for those wishing to attend but do not have a secured attendance spot. Increasingly, attendees sign up and simply do not show up for the event without canceling in advance. This behavior impacts the event registrar/organizer, the event facility, and those on the waiting list wanting to attend but cannot. This behavior demonstrates a lack of common courtesy, requiring it to be addressed proactively. On the first occurrence a warning will be issued, and on the second occurrence privileges to attend future events may be impacted. Also, any registration fees for paid events will be forfeited without recourse since the club is charged regardless. The cancelation policy requires cancelation of your registration on MSR for paid or unpaid events a minimum of 7 days prior to the event date, unless there are serious and extenuating emergency circumstances as assessed by the event registrar/organizer. Most importantly, please be courteous to your fellow members so that everyone has an opportunity to enjoy events. Event Organizer Responsibilities Event organizers are required to send out a reminder approximately 9 days in advance of any event reminding registrants of the event and summarizing their responsibilities by including the following language: Thank you for your RSVP. Please note that whether or not there is a registration fee for this event, the restaurant is expecting a certain number of attendees we provide to them in advance and incur cost accordingly. If you need to cancel please do so at least one week prior to the event date (being a no-show without notice is rude to other members who wish to attend, the restaurant and to the event organizer). Additionally, if there is a fee or prepayment associated with the event, it will be forfeited if cancelled less than 7 days before the event. Thank you!”
Additionally, event organizers are requested to send out a reminder two or three days prior to the event simply as a courtesy to remind those attending.

Reimbursement & Stipend Policy for AZPCA HPDE Events: 1. Reimbursement is provided to 5 key workers / volunteers for actual round-trip fuel cost (upon providing receipts), and if applicable, $120/night stipend for lodging/ incidentals. If it is not an overnight event and/or a requirement, then spend is reduced to $40. Key workers are volunteers that are attending the event solely to work the event but not participate in the event. Examples could be: Grid worker(s), Safety inspector(s), Timing and Scoring Chair, Safety Chair, Event Chair, CDI. Excludes: Corner workers/flaggers. 2. A corner worker/flagger is offered a $100 stipend or a $175 MSR credit for a future HPDE event, by choice of the flagger. 3. Other non-critical volunteer positions are provided a lunch (lunch will either paid for individually or provided as part of event to all participants). 4. The Event Organizer is reimbursed for fuel costs related to event planning/execution and round-trip fuel cost (upon providing receipts and log). 5. Continue to offer discounted registration fees for approved AZPCA Instructors. Policy adopted by majority vote of the Board of Directors at the June 2023 BOD meeting

Now this headline made me drop to my knees, gasp for breath and look for the keys to my ’78 911SC. “Porsche’s New Plan for the Future Includes 5000 Jobs Gone, over $2 Billion in Investments by 2035.” It ran recently on Road & Track.com. The subhead added “The cuts follow thousands of earlier layoffs as both Porsche and the broader VW Group brace for a tougher, more uncertain future.” I know, I know. Someone I used to work for had a saying he’d repeat often, when the going got tough. “The trees don’t grow to the sky.” Which I thought was a good corollary to the line “Nothing lasts forever.” But this? To our beloved marque? How? Why? And what do they do, now? Well, let’s face it. Can you think of a worse time, like maybe ever, to run an automobile manufacturer? Tariffs today, no tariffs tomorrow. China deciding to decimate a market you helped create, by overwhelming it with their own home-grown product. The price of energy. Trying to predict a market for tech advances like EVs. Makes you want to go plop plop fizz fizz. As Dusty Springfield sang, we’re all “wishin’ and hopin’ and thinkin’ and prayin.” But some people actually have some real, unsolicited, ideas. Like BBC Top Gear. They ran a story recently, under the headline “Top Gear’s foolproof three-point plan to save Porsche.” Now, I’ve been reading buff books for too many decades. But I’ve never, ever, seen a story that begins with “Top Gear’s had a high-powered overcaffeinated thinking office pow-wow on the subject….” Guess it really is a sign of the times. The crisis is real, and we all really do care. Step 1. Balance the books. Cut your losses on the electric Boxster. Earlier this year, there was talk that the EV version of the next gen was dead. But now it’s reportedly back, as an entry model, with gas “top models.” Instead, give the tech to Audi for their next TT or whatever. Slim down the bloated 911 range. There are now 21 variants. That’s nuts. Merge the Taycan and Panamera. In a vehicle that can support ICE, hybrid, EV and anything else the market might request. Step 2. Refine the design. “Make people want a Porsche like they used to.” Top Gear wants to restore the pop-out cupholders that don’t obstruct shifting. And they would add | 74 |
Danielle’s Column - Hall of Mirrors an “Analogue Interior Pack.” Where Porsche would switch to, and I quote, “starter buttons out, twisty keys return.” Step 3. Make the future exciting. Starting with a new analog supercar. Nobody wants esupercars. “Lean into what made the 911RS, S/T and Carrera GT go up in value….” Make 500 at a million each. “You’d sell them three times over.” Concurrently, “don’t just chase the billionaire bonuses…. Losing sight of the grassroots car lover’s aspirations.” Give us a new mid-engine baby Porsche for under 50k. “People will even forgive that flat four turbo engine now – it’s not electric….” Yeah, I know. As someone whose first Porsche was a ’76 914 2.0, which I could afford in ’78, when I was earning peanuts, I’m all in. The alternative is to chase what I call the Harley Syndrome – a customer base that’s riding into senior citizen homes, and is not being replenished by younger enthusiasts. It’s a death spiral. Porsche should know. You may recall they actually designed a more modern banger for Harley that was supposed to bring the marque into at least the 20th Century. I have a few additional product thoughts. First, a Cayenne pick-up. At least for the US market, which, with the uncorking in China, is once again the marque’s largest. I mean, how difficult, and expensive, would it be to chop the rear into a pick-up bed? Now, I wouldn’t buy one. But, if it can fuel that new two-seater, I’m all for it. The market is gigundo. And I don’t care what the powertrain is. Line extensions. Don’t laugh. I’m thinking golf carts, riding mowers, ATV vehicles, speed boats. I said don’t laugh. Think Honda is laughing? They even have a business jet. If Porsche’s “sports car” product mythology can translate to SUVs, why not? Oh, and they should quit e-racing and get into Formula 1. Why let Audi have all the fun? It’s the worldwide tech cutting edge. They belong. Forward!

The Stuttgart Market Letter Written by David K. Whitlock
July marked the second month in a row that our sell-through rate fell year over year, although the decline was slight, with 73% of the 753 Porsches on offer finding new homes compared to 74% of 634 cars last July. But that one-point drop tells only part of the story, as unit volume jumped 19% and dollar volume surged 57% to $59,992,378. The results were essentially flat compared to June, which saw the same 73% sell-through rate and $60,739,655 from 746 cars, especially notable given that July’s auction calendar consisted almost entirely of online sales. Mecum Harrisburg was the month’s only in-person auction, and even that featured just a handful of Porsches. In fact, one weekend saw only two Porsches cross the block, making July’s nearly $60m total all the more impressive. Leading the pack in July was our only supercar to cross the block, a 2004 Carrera GT finished in Fayence Yellow. One of approximately 44 examples produced in the color for the North American market, the car showed 9,000 miles and was a very nice example, complete with its fitted luggage and documentation that the latest recall campaign was addressed in 2024. It sold on Bring a Trailer for an impressive $4,568,000, proving that big money for Carrera GTs isn’t reserved solely for the legacy auction houses. Over the past few months, the 992.2 market has struggled, with most models posting sell-through rates below 50% and some models failing to sell a car at all. But 992.2 GT3s appear to have found their footing, as both winged examples on offer sold along with two of the three GT3 Tourings. The four cars that found new homes traded in the $316,000-$325,000 range, while the lone no-sale was the only Paint-to-Sample example, a Meissen Blue GT3 Touring that failed to sell at a final bid of $343,000. The bigger news, though, was the arrival of our first 992.2 Turbo S: a 2026 Coupe finished in Slate Grey Neo over Black with 671 miles and a $310,000 sticker price. Unfortunately, it went the way of many early 992.2s, failing to sell at a final bid of $338,000. On the 991 front, GT2 RSs continued to impress, with every example besting its high estimate and one setting a new all-time record. Over the past three months, the model’s average sale price has increased by $93,945, while the low and high ends of the market have climbed by $59,500 and $266,580, respectively. That new high came courtesy of a 2018 GT2 RS finished in Viola Purple Metallic with just 593 miles and a strong options list that included the Weissach Package, Sport Chrono Package, and carbon-fiber bucket seats. Sales in the $600,000$700,000 range have become commonplace, but those cars were mostly finished in the usual White, Black, Grey, and Red. The combination of rare color and exceptionally low mileage pushed this one to $1,000,000, making it the first GT2 RS to reach the seven-figure mark. Another market gaining traction is the 981 Boxster Spyder, with its average sale price increasing by $15,581 over the past three months while the low and high ends of the market climbed by $6,005 and $18,981, respectively. Although only one example crossed the block in July, it was a significant sale. The 2016 Boxster Spyder was finished in White over Garnet Red leather and Black Alcantara and showed 25,000 miles. Had this car come to market a year ago, it likely would have been an $85,000 car. Instead, it sold for $106,500, further demonstrating the growing strength of the 981 Spyder market. Moving from one limited-production, mid-engine Porsche to another, the 1974 914 LE 2.0 also produced some impressive results in July. Porsche built just 1,000 examples for North America, split evenly between two distinctive colorways: 500 Ivory White and Phoenix Red “Creamsicles” and 500 Black and Sunflower Yellow “Bumblebees.” The last LE we saw sell was a Bumblebee that brought $31,000 in August 2025, but July gave us two prime examples. First was a 57,000-mile Creamsicle with a multi-year restoration completed in 2023 that sold for $71,000. It was followed by a Bumblebee restored by Gaudin Porsche of Las Vegas for the 2022 Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge. Showing just 45 miles since completion, it hammered for $91,000. The Stuttgart Market Letter represent a huge jump for the model, but both cars were excellent recent restorations, and, interestingly enough, both went to the same winning bidder. Taking a look at the classic 911 market, July brought the rare opportunity to see two 1973 Carrera RS 2.7 Lightweights cross the block. Of the 1,580 Carrera RS 2.7s produced, only 200 were built in lightweight Sport specification, making it remarkable that two appeared in the same month. The first was finished in Blood Orange with Black side graphics and had been restored between 2017 and 2020 by marque expert Early 911S of Wuppertal, Germany. Formerly part of the Dana Mecum Collection before being purchased by the seller in 2025, it was an excellent, well-documented example that brought $1,200,000. The second Lightweight sat at the opposite end of the spectrum. Although refinished in its original shade of Gulf Blue, it had lived the hard life typical of many competition cars from the era, with much of its body replaced following a major accident. That history kept bidders at bay, and it failed to sell at a final bid of $575,269. The 356 market continued to seesaw between flat and soft throughout July, although the month’s highlight was a very nice 1958 356A Speedster. Refurbished over 40 months after spending decades disassembled and in storage, it went on to earn a host of post-restoration awards, including Best Porsche at the 2017 Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance, Best in Class at the 2018 Concours d’Elegance of Texas, and a Podium Award at the 2025 La Jolla Concours d’Elegance. Finished in Silver Metallic over Red leather and riding on 15-inch Rudge knock-off wheels, it was everything you’d want in a Speedster. The market for this one proved flat, though, as it sold for $400,000, the exact same price it brought last September. Overall, July was largely a repeat of what we saw in June, with the sell-through rate coming in slightly below the previous year despite big gains in both dollar volume and unit volume. Now, all eyes turn to Monterey, where 87 Porsches and six RUFs are set to cross the block in August. I expect the momentum behind supercars and modern classics to continue, but Monterey should also give us a good look at the vintage Porsche race car market, with two very nice 550s, a 907 Langheck, and several other significant competition cars on offer. What’s happening in the Porsche Market Place?

The Porsche 968 debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1991 as a 1992
model and represented the final evolution of Porsche’s four-cylinder transaxle line, replacing the 944. Built in Zuffenhausen, it retained the front-engine, reartransmission layout that gave the platform its renowned balance and predictable handling. Power came from a 3.0-liter inline-four, one of the largest four-cylinder engines fitted to a production car at the time, and the 968 also marked the first use of Porsche’s VarioCam variable camshaft control system, underscoring its role as both a technological and dynamic step forward. This 1993 968 Coupe 6-Speed was delivered new to Japan and later spent time in Europe before being imported to the US by its current owner. Originally finished in Signal Green over a Black leather interior, this 107,000 km (~67k mile) example was refinished in its original shade some time ago and had its engine rebuilt in 2025 with work consisting of machining the head, new cylinder sleeves, a valve job, and a long list of parts. With only 10 other known examples in Signal Green, this was a very rare, and very well-kept example. Over the last twelve months 968 Coupes have averaged $25,700 with a low of $9,800 and a high of $43,500 for an 84k-mile example finished in Riviera Blue, another rare color. Our Spotlight Car, with less miles and quite the service history topped the Blue with a final bid of $52,968, unfortunately it wasn’t enough to take her home.
