As we head into the summer season, I want to take a moment to thank all of the volunteers who have helped make the first half of the year such a success. Our driving tours, social events, concours planning, and day-to-day club activities simply would not happen without the members who generously donate their time and talents. Your efforts are greatly appreciated and are what make this club such a great organization.

I'd also like to share a couple of leadership updates.

Please join me in welcoming Peo Hansson, who has been appointed to the Board as a Director at Large following the resignation of Michael Mansour. Many of you already know Peo through his work as our Assistant Driving Tour Chairperson, and we appreciate his willingness to take on this additional role in support of the club.

I am also pleased to welcome Meghan Johnson as our new Social Activities Chairperson, succeeding Jia and Michael Mansour. Meghan is excited to get started and will be working closely with Bill Stubbs on this fall's Concours, as well as planning our annual Holiday Party at Troon Golf Club this December. We look forward to seeing her ideas and enthusiasm help shape some of our signature club events.

To our snowbirds and rainbirds who will be escaping the Arizona summer, we wish you safe travels and an enjoyable season away. We look forward to welcoming you back when the temperatures become a little more tolerable.

While summer in Arizona certainly brings the heat, the club doesn't take the season completely off. We still have plenty of opportunities to get together over the coming months, and I encourage everyone to stay involved, attend an event, and enjoy the numerous social activities the club has to offer. Of course, don't forget that some of the best driving in Arizona happens after the sun goes down. Take advantage of those cooler evenings with a night cruise Open the roof, or roll those windows down and enjoy the roads.

Thank you again to all of our volunteers, board members, and club members for your continued support. Enjoy the summer, stay cool, and I hope to see many of you at an upcoming event.

In Loving Memory – Robert (Bob) Tomlin

As I type this, I have both a tear in my eye and a smile on my face, a tear mourning the loss of a very interesting, witty and genuinely beautiful man, Bob Tomlin, but also a smile for all the joy and humour he brought into this world.

Alison and I only met Bob and Nancy about 5 years ago but they welcomed us to sit with them at an event and we had a absolutely wonderful conversation.

While Bob and I shared stories about England, cars, motorbikes and all the adventures he had been involved in I couldn’t help think back to all the stories my Dad and Uncles told me as I was growing up, Bob was a great story teller and captured an audience very quickly with his quick wit and charm, he will be sorely missed by everyone who met him and especially his friends in the club.

We decided to re-run an article that Bob wrote a number of years ago as a tribute to not only him but to all the people who got to know the real Bob Tomlin.

We are sending our prayers and deepest condolences to Nancy.

APPOINTED POSITIONS

The Arizona Region Board of Directors are still looking for members to volunteer to become part of the Team in filling the four appointed positions listed below:

If anyone is interested in any of the positions, please contact the Region President, Dan Bouet, at president@az.pca.org

Equipment Chair – Responsibilities: Coordinate with different event Chairs to ensure that equipment is available to event coordinators and that each Region item is correctly catalogued and stored correctly. This person will also facilitate delivery and/or pickup to club functions using various methods available.

Technical Advisor – Responsibilities: Provide technical expertise to the Region members regarding routine Porsche maintenance and fielding questions regarding the various vehicle system and components. Provide assistance to the Tech Session Coordinator with the planning and scheduling of the tech sessions. Contribute to Going Places Newsletter with monthly tech articles.

Road Rally Chair – Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate, and/or select a Rally Event Chair to facilitate Road Rallies for the Club members to enjoy in a safe & friendly competition environment driving the Porsche car on the public highways within the scope of all Arizona Revised Statutes. The road rally category type will be at the discretion of the rally chair from a Gimmick Rally to a Navigational Rally, pursuant to the National PCA Region Procedures Manual (RPM).

PCA Juniors Program Coordinator – Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate, promote and facilitate the activities for the PCA Junior members to participate in the Club social activities, pursuant to the National PCA RPM.

Upcoming AZPCA Driving Tours

Driving Tour is a relaxing drive in your Porsche, to an interesting destination in and around the Phoenix metro area, and sometimes to further destinations around the state and beyond. Our drives typically feature beautiful scenery and great Porsche driving roads. Driving Tours are non-competitive events, meant to provide enjoyment with your car in the company of other Porsche owners sharing an interesting experience.

The Arizona Region offers many driving tours throughout the year. The list below shows tours planned for the upcoming months. Please note that dates and other details are subject to change. Check the website events calendar for the most up-to-date schedule.

12-14

— Ken Steele Alpine Tour XXVI

Our group will escape the Valley heat for a weekend on some of the best roads in Arizona to our destination, Long Shadow Lodge at Tai-Wi-Wi. We transition from desert to Alpine views on the curviest road in Arizona, which some say has 460 turns! As always, we will hold our Happy Hour on Friday night and the restaurant at the lodge will be open for dinner.

June 29 — Copper Corridor Driving Tour

Welcome to a great drive to copper-mining country, starting in Mesa. We will head east and thread our way between the Superstition and Pinal Mountains on US-60 then do a loop through the Copper Corridor, with lunch at the Silver King Smokehouse & Saloon in Superior.

— Kicks on Route 66

This three-day event to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Mother Road features lots of driving to interesting sites along the most famous road in the good ol’ USA. We will begin our drive from the West Valley, up to Lake Havasu City, home of the famous London Bridge. The next day we head to Topock, “the Western Gateway of Route 66,” and travel East on the famous highway, with plans to stop at several historic sites, including Oatman, Kingman, AZ Route 66 Museum, Seligman, and Williams, along the way to our final destination in Flagstaff, where the Mother Road Classic Car Show awaits us.

Bob Tomlin - A True Gentleman Amongst Men

Meet a member – Bob Tomlin

I welcome this opportunity to introduce myself to the newer members of our club. My wife Nancy and I joined AZPCA over 11 years ago, although my involvement with Porsche began much earlier.

I was born in Windsor England in 1931. I received a technical education, served in the Royal Naval Air Service during the Korean War, and emigrated to Vancouver British Columbia Canada in 1957. In 1960 I then moved to California USA, and I became a proud US citizen in 1965. During my career, we have lived in several states and returned to the UK for two five -year periods.

I was attracted to Porsche after having been impressed by their performance in racing. My first Porsche was in 1963, a 356B coupe. I then owned a Porsche 912, followed by two Carrera 911Ts. I enjoyed them all.

On arriving in California, I became a member of SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) San Francisco region. The region, which had 3,000 active members, was responsible for staging a very wide range of race events both professional and amateur at Laguna Seca Monterey, Sonoma Raceway and other circuits in Northern California. These included the original Trans Am and Can Am series. I volunteered and worked for 9 years in all phases of these race events. I served on the region’s Board of Directors and was twice elected as Regional Executive.

Toward the end of 1969, I was invited to join the national staff of SCCA as Director of Club racing and moved to their headquarters in Denver, Colorado. In the course of my duties, I was required to coordinate with Porsche and other manufacturers regarding rules and specifications of their cars competing in our races.

This included factory visits to Porsche, Stuttgart. On one of which Nancy joined me, as we were on our honeymoon. Following a factory tour and lunch with Competition Director Baron Von Hanstein, we were taken to the Development Facility at Weissach. To our surprise, they rolled out one of the previous year Le Mans 917K racecars and treated each of us to several laps of the test track with I believe factory driver Willi Kaussen. What a honeymoon!!!!

A couple of years later, I was hired by John Bishop of IMSA to serve as their General Manager. They have now been absorbed by NASCAR. While at IMSA, Nancy and I worked the 24 hours of Daytona.

The rest of my career was in Sales Engineering Management in the USA and the UK, the last several years of which I formed my own Manufacturing Representative company, in Roswell GA. During those years, I was supplied with company cars –therefore no Porsches.

In 1999, I retired, and we moved to our current home in Scottsdale, where we have lived for 24 years. At that time, I was heavily involved in my second passion –motorcycles. I owned a series of BMW GS and RT motorcycles and competed in long distance rallying. On my 81st birthday I decided, much to Nancy’s relief that it would be safer to hang up my helmet. At which point she said – ‘Now what?’. I said back to PORSCHES, where upon I bought a 2003 Porsche 996 Carrera 4S and we joined PCA and the local Arizona region.

We have since owned a 2009 Cayenne GTS, a 2011 997.2 Carrera, and our current love, a 2013 Panamera 4S. Nancy calls her ‘Heidi’. At this stage in our life, she is the ideal Porsche for us.

Belonging to AZPCA, volunteering, and serving on the Board of Directors and VP in 2017 has enabled us to make a lot of wonderful friends. We look forward to meeting new members as the opportunity arises and hearing your Porsche experiences.

Meet this Month’s Featured Member - Kevin Duncan

1. When did you join PCA?

I joined in September 2025, right after acquiring my first ever Porsche.

2. What Porsche(s) do you have?

I have a white 1976 914 2.0.

3. Where are you from?

I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah.

4. Family?

Yes. My wife and I have been married for 30 years this month, and we have one adult son.

5. Work background or trade?

I have worked for many years for a Utility in Arizona permitting new infrastructure to support the Electrical grid.

6. What makes your car special?

My car is very close to fully original, and I appreciate it for its originality.

7. Next upgrade?

I have been thoroughly detailing the car, inside and out. My next project is to organize the wires and tubing within the engine bay.

8. Have you personalized your car?

Not really, I am trying to keep it as original as possible.

9. Favorite memory with a car?

I have many good memories of working on the family cars with my Dad as I was growing up. He taught me many things about taking care of your own car.

10. Where/Why did you buy your Porsche?

I was connected to the seller by a neighbor who was friends with a mechanic who had been taking care of the car for many years, and was friends with the seller.

Special Article - Kevin’s Porsche Journey

Porsche owners are a passionate group. 914 owners are an equally passionate subset, and you can count me among them. My ’76 914 2.0 is celebrating its 50th birthday this year!

The 914, made from 1969-1976, is known for its unconventional styling, its mixed heritage, and its loyal fans. Although I have been a lifelong Porsche admirer from afar, I never expected that I would ever become an owner. Here’s how it happened.

I grew up in a working-class part of Salt Lake City known as Sugarhouse. Every car up and down the street or parked in garages were daily drivers including the two cars owned by my family. It was rare to see any “nice” cars in the neighborhood, but someone a few blocks away owned a Porsche 914 that I would see on occasion.

I experienced my first car crush.

I am not sure what drew me to it, but I just fell in love and believed I would own one in the future.

As I grew up, I covered the walls of my room with Porsche posters. Most were of 1980s era 911s, but my favorite was a poster that showed all the Porsche models from the beginning through 1983, which at that time was only a few years earlier. My favorite cars on that poster were the Signal Orange 914 and the Dolphin Gray 916. By the time I finished high school, I never saw 914s anymore, even the one I used to see in the neighborhood. But I never lost my dream.

After a stint in the Navy and the early beginnings of my career, I revisited that dream. I perused a national car sales magazine and found one for sale (Signal Orange!) only 30 minutes north from where I lived. I reached out to the owner and arranged a test drive. I was so excited, and loved every moment I had with the car, which was only a short, fast drive. Although the price was very affordable, I just could not put the money together and was heartbroken when I had to back out. In truth, it was for the better, as I did not have a place to keep it; it might have become yet another casualty of improper storage.

As life went on and my career progressed, I relocated to Mesa where I currently live I befriended a neighbor who also appreciates Porsche vehicles and has owned one in the past. Through our conversations, he knew that I had an affinity for the 914. He also was long-term friends with a Porsche shop owner in Tempe and I occasionally went with him to visit, always admiring any 914s that were there.

One day last year, the shop owner contacted my neighbor about a 914 he had been taking care of for many years which was now for sale. He asked my neighbor if he knew of anyone looking for one, and my neighbor said, “as a matter of fact, I do!” He texted me right away, and we arranged to see the car that weekend. I immediately fell in love, and this time I did not let it go. I could tell the car had been well taken care of and cherished its entire life. Now I get to do the same.

The 914 was originally marketed as an entry-level Porsche and for many today remains an affordable way into Porsche ownership. Is it a Volkswagen or a Porsche? Yes. But the better answer is “It’s a 914.” Those who have owned or driven a 914 will tell you of its drivability, cornering, and overall fun. I may at some point become owner of another Porsche. But for now, my dream car all the way from my childhood, was and is, a 914.

Join us this year for a great weekend drive to cooler temperatures and great conversation as we gather at Long Shadow Lodge at Tai-Wi-Wi in Alpine AZ!

On Friday morning our group will depart the Valley for a weekend on some of the best roads in Arizona to our destination, Long Shadow Lodge at Tai-Wi-Wi. Saturday, you can explore on your own or join the group AZPCA drive through New Mexico, south to Clifton, Arizona and N on US 191 the old 666 Devils Highway. You start off at 3,000 feet elevation driving up to 8,000 feet. We transition from desert to Alpine views on the curviest road in Arizona, which some say has 460 turns! But you can count them for yourself.

Long Shadow Lodge at Tal Wi Wi, is under new ownership. The restaurant will be open for dinner and maybe coffee and donuts in the morning. Over the winter, the Lodge added a pizza oven. As always, we will hold our Happy Hour on Friday night.

This event always fills up quickly! Limited to 20 vehicles

(There will be a waitlist as someone may have to cancel)

Saturday, June 13 – Options: Explore on your own or join the group drive, (US 180 E, Morenci, 191 to Hannagan Meadow). Bring a picnic lunch.

The Experience:

Join fellow Porsche enthusiasts for a distinctive edition of Porsche & Pancakes at one of the most unique hidden venues in Anthem. The Bearded Barber Speakeasy, hidden within a classic fully functioning barbershop, will open exclusively for PCA Arizona Region members for this private event. This gathering blends the relaxed camaraderie of a traditional Porsche & Pancakes with the distinctive ambiance of a prohibition-style speakeasy lounge.

Special Brunch Menu:

For this event, The Bearded Barber Speakeasy will feature a special brunch menu created exclusively for Porsche Club of America Arizona Region attendees. Guests will be able to choose between 3 or 4 brunch favorites specifically selected for the gathering, along with coffee and optional craft cocktails available at the bar.

What Makes This Event Special:

- Live music entertainment by noted musician Allen Fenske

Review - Ladies-Only Tonto Natural Bridge

On May 13th, 24 ladies and their sports cars met in Fountain Hills for the last drive of the season for a brief but informative driver’s meeting led by Debbie Younger. By 10 am, we were on our way to Tonto Natural Bridge State Park. Debbie led the way with Emily Lane in the position of sweep. Cruising up through Payson, the drive was scenic and exhilarating.

Tonto Natural Bridge State Park protects the world’s largest natural travertine bridge, a massive geological formation with a 183-foot high, 400-foot-long tunnel. The park offers hiking trails, picnic areas, viewpoints and trails to the creek below the bridge.

Upon our arrival, we enjoyed our reserved parking area and ramada. We then set up our picnic lunches and an abundant buffet of desserts to enjoy.

During lunch the park was visited by a family of Javelina’s with their young. Fortunately, they didn’t come close and left quickly! After lunch, several women visited the many viewpoints available. As the event concluded all agreed it was a great drive to last us until the fall!

The sponsorship program has five tiers:

No prior experience necessary.

Get involved by volunteering for one of our HPDE program roles below:

Corner Worker/Flagger - COMPENSATED ROLE• $100 cash or a future track day credit ($175 value). Observe cars on track and provide flagging communication to drivers. Radio in to Chief of Course regarding any incidents, issues, and need to flag drivers. 8 hr full day commitment

Driving Instructor- Experienced drivers who are interested in becoming a PCA Instructor.

Grid Marshal- Radio communication with the Chief of Course and Corner Workers to release vehicles onto the track from Pre-Grid, and direct the flow of cars on and off the track. Approx. 2-7 hr commitment (part day to full day).

Lunch Pickup/Prep/Cleanup- Pickup lunch from a nearby location and/or lunch prep and cleanup.

Photographer-Capture photos of the event from great vantage points on the track or paddock for publication in Going Places. Approx. 2 hr commitment.

Pre-Grid-While cars are staged waiting to enter the track, check driver wristbands and confirm other safety guidelines are being met prior to releasing vehicles. Approx. 2-7 hr commitment (part to full day).

Registration-Check in drivers and their guests at the track gate entrance. Approx. 2 hr early AM commitment.

Safety Tech- Using our safety checklist, inspect vehicles and helmets to ensure compliance. Approx. 2 hr early AM commitment

Setup / Breakdown-Assist with unloading/loading and set up of equipment such as tables, chairs, canopy, PA system, etc. Approx. 1 hr commitment, early AM or late afternoon.

Writer-Write an editorial on the event, perhaps with an interview or two from drivers for publication in Going Places. Approx. 2 hr commitment.

Review - AZPCA Ladies - Only - Classic Cooking

On May 14, thirteen PCA members joined in at a private event at the Classic Cooking Academy where were prepared and cooked our lunch in teams.

About Classic Cooking Academy:

Classic Cooking Academy is passionate about the art of cooking. After over 17 years of operation, Classic Cooking Academy has become one of the most popular cooking schools in metropolitan Arizona. Their professionally trained instructors guided us through this experience where we learned techniques rather than just reading a recipe. Calendar of events here.

About the chef: Christopher Moore

Chef Christopher began his culinary career while attending the University of Arizona, where his experience at Canyon Ranch sparked a passion for the science and creativity behind exceptional cuisine. After graduating from Scottsdale Culinary Institute, he built his career in both the U.S. and Europe, serving in leadership roles with private clubs, golf resorts, and luxury hospitality groups, including Vila Vita Parc Hotel in southern Portugal. During his time in Europe, he traveled and studied the cuisine of Portugal, Andalusia and southern Spain.

Review - Sonoita Wine Country Porsche Drive

As brand-new members, we decided there was no better way to get acquainted than by jumping straight into the Sonoita wine tour and it did not disappoint.

Our first impression came immediately at the meet-up point, where a stunning lineup of Porsches transformed an ordinary McDonald’s parking lot into something far more memorable. After a brief welcome meeting, it was clear this group was not only well organized, but genuinely warm and inviting.

Soon enough, engines started and we set off, caravanning through Arizona’s scenic roads in a procession of beautifully engineered machines. The roughly 2.5-hour drive felt like an experience in itself, with each twist and stretch of highway reinforcing why we all love these cars.

We arrived at the charming Sonoita Inn, a boutique ranch-style retreat that our group quickly filled. From there, the day unfolded into a thoughtfully curated wine tour, complete with an outstanding shuttle service whose drivers added local stories, humor, and seamless coordination throughout.

Our first stop, Autumn Sage Vineyard, welcomed us with a relaxing patio lunch nestled among the vines an ideal start to the afternoon. Next was Los Milics Vineyards, where sleek, modern architecture of metal and glass contrasted beautifully with the surrounding landscape. Inside, their spacious tasting room comfortably hosted our group, while outside, panoramic views of rolling vineyards and distant mountains made it hard to believe we were still in Arizona

At Dos Cabezas WineWorks, the understated exterior gave way to a cozy and inviting atmosphere. We enjoyed Wilcox wines on the patio, sharing laughs and easy conversation as the afternoon settled in. By the time we reached our final stop, Rune Wines, spirits were high in every sense. What began as a modest-looking location opened into a relaxed, boho-style outdoor setting with sweeping desert and mountain views. It was the perfect finale, and many of us lingered a little longer than planned, soaking in the scenery, the weather, and the company.

That evening, we gathered at the local steakhouse, where hearty plates of ribs, steak, and potatoes were exactly what the day called for. Over dinner and drinks, we celebrated a successful trip and raised a welldeserved toast to the organizers who made it all happen. A homemade dessert provided a perfect finishing touch. Some carried the momentum into an afterparty, while others called it a night.

As new members, this experience exceeded every expectation. Beyond the exceptional planning and memorable destinations, what stood out most was the camaraderie. One longtime member shared that some of their closest friendships have come from this club and after this weekend, we understand exactly why.

AZPCA Regional Autocross Season - 2026

About the NEW Autocross events:

Join us for our AZPCA autocross at The Phoenix Raceway Location address is 7602 Jimmie Johnson Dr, Avondale, AZ 85323 Non-Porsches are welcome to participate. Multi lap format. Contact our NEW event co-ordinator Ealing Jahn for more information. $99 for the event - there is no on site registration. If you wish to have someone, who is not an entrant, over 18 years old and who is an immediate household member, as a passenger for a taste of autox please pre-register and pay the $10 fee.

Drivers can invite guests only during pre-registration who must complete all waivers, but cannot be a passenger. Gates open at 7:00 am. First car out at 8:30 am. Rental helmets can be reserved during the online registration process. Sorry but no go-karts, Polaris type, formula or other exoskeleton vehicles permitted.

A link to the Porsche waiver will be sent to you via email, information on the Phoenix Raceway paper waiver will be provided in your event receipt and is available on site.

Autocross is the sport of trying to navigate your car through a defined course of pylons usually on a large parking lot, faster than your competition.

Autocross courses are set up using soft orange traffic pylon cones (which will not damage your car) and events are run at speeds usually between 40 -65 MPH, usually all in 2nd gear. Autocross is a “performance driving event” and a safe way to learn how to drive your car at its limits. You not only learn how to handle your car at speeds that you drive daily, but you also: Gain confidence in your driving ability. Learn the limits of your car’s brakes. Learn correct seating, hand, and feet positions. Learn the limits of your car’s tire adhesion. Most importantly, autocross is a social gathering of friends with a common interest and is simply a ton of fun!

Your family is welcome and there are usually plenty of people to socialize with.

Be prepared for big fun.

HPDE - DRIVING YOUR PORSCHE ON THE TRACK

Expand your car control skills and explore the capabilities of your Porsche on a racetrack in a safe, controlled environment with no speed limits! AZPCA’s HPDE & TT program (that’s short for High Performance Driver Education and Time Trials) is all about experiencing your Porsche on a road circuit. AZPCA provides personal driving instructors for new participants to guide them through the day. Our instructors will navigate you along the road circuit, teach you the fundamentals of driving at track speeds, but also keep you in a comfort zone so you have a good time. There are flaggers on track, just like at a real racing event. The club also arranges an ambulance and tow truck on site for emergencies.

For the HPDE events, four groups of approximately 10-25 drivers are formed based on experience levelBeginner, Intermediate, Experienced, Advanced. Grouping allows everyone attending to have a good time. Beginners don’t have to stress about having little/no experience- chances are, there are several other drivers in the same group just starting out.

Based on instructor evaluation, you are advanced to the next group up when appropriate. Sometimes this is after one day, or sometimes it takes a several events. Higher run groups typically mean more speed but with a better, practiced skill set to control the speed safely. This keeps track days exciting for you as you advance your skill set.

While this is definitely NOT racing, there is a natural tendency to evaluate yourself to other drivers in your group, but HPDE is not structured to award “fast” times. To satisfy the competitive nature in you, we offer options for all levels of expertise.

AZPCA Off-Road Adventures - The Dirtier, the Better!

Arizona Region is planning for other Off-Road Driving Tours this year with plans to do Four Peaks possibly in May/June, and later this year, Castle Hot Springs and tentatively Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. Some of the outings may include picnicking on the trail. The future dates will be announced in this publication.

Future AZPCA Event - Verde Valley Train & Wine Tasting

We will take a scenic drive north on the Beeline (SR87), through Payson, Pine, Camp Verde and into Cottonwood/Clarkdale.

The Verde Canyon Railroad offers a lovely wilderness excursion into an area of extreme natural beauty, following the curves of the Verde River, 20 miles up through a red rock canyon. It is full of unusual geology, abundant wildlife, lush greenery, and Native-American ruins, on vintage rails aboard vintage train cars.

There is something wonderful to be seen each season, and the train runs year-round. The route starts at the depot in Clarkdale, AZ and ventures 20 miles to the historic ranch town of Perkinsville. At Perkinsville the engines disconnect, come around on a sidetrack and reconnect at the back (now front) of the train to power us back home to Clarkdale. En route we pass vintage trestles, travel through a 734-foot tunnel and tour beautiful red rock canyon scenery and the riparian curves of the Verde River. The trip is fully narrated, and the narration is interspersed with fun railroad tunes of every genre.

The train has all the same comfortable living room-style accommodations, featuring overstuffed chairs and loveseats, complimentary appetizers, and a complimentary glass of champagne or sparkling cider upon boarding. AZPCA Region Event Cancelation Policies & Event Organizer Responsibilities

Event Cancellation Policy

Most of our events have attendance limits, and they fill up quickly. Also, we often have waiting lists for those wishing to attend but do not have a secured attendance spot. Increasingly, attendees sign up and simply do not show up for the event without canceling in advance. This behavior impacts the event registrar/organizer, the event facility, and those on the waiting list wanting to attend but cannot. This behavior demonstrates a lack of common courtesy, requiring it to be addressed proactively. On the first occurrence a warning will be issued, and on the second occurrence privileges to attend future events may be impacted. Also, any registration fees for paid events will be forfeited without recourse since the club is charged regardless. The cancelation policy requires cancelation of your registration on MSR for paid or unpaid events a minimum of 7 days prior to the event date, unless there are serious and extenuating emergency circumstances as assessed by the event registrar/organizer. Most importantly, please be courteous to your fellow members so that everyone has an opportunity to enjoy events.

Event Organizer Responsibilities

Event organizers are required to send out a reminder approximately 9 days in advance of any event reminding registrants of the event and summarizing their responsibilities by including the following language:

Thank you for your RSVP. Please note that whether or not there is a registration fee for this event, the restaurant is expecting a certain number of attendees we provide to them in advance and incur cost accordingly If you need to cancel please do so at least one week prior to the event date (being a no-show without notice is rude to other members who wish to attend, the restaurant and to the event organizer). Additionally, if there is a fee or prepayment associated with the event, it will be forfeited if cancelled less than 7 days before the event. Thank you!”

Additionally, event organizers are requested to send out a reminder two or three days prior to the event simply as a courtesy to remind those attending.

IMPORTANT AZPCA Information

Reimbursement & Stipend Policy for AZPCA HPDE Events:

1. Reimbursement is provided to 5 key workers / volunteers for actual round-trip fuel cost (upon providing receipts), and if applicable, $120/night stipend for lodging/ incidentals. If it is not an overnight event and/or a requirement, then spend is reduced to $40. Key workers are volunteers that are attending the event solely to work the event but not participate in the event. Examples could be: Grid worker(s), Safety inspector(s), Timing and Scoring Chair, Safety Chair, Event Chair, CDI. Excludes: Corner workers/flaggers.

2. A corner worker/flagger is offered a $100 stipend or a $175 MSR credit for a future HPDE event, by choice of the flagger.

3. Other non-critical volunteer positions are provided a lunch (lunch will either paid for individually or provided as part of event to all participants).

4. The Event Organizer is reimbursed for fuel costs related to event planning/execution and round-trip fuel cost (upon providing receipts and log).

5. Continue to offer discounted registration fees for approved AZPCA Instructors.

Danielle’s Column - Going On & On & On On-Line

s it me or is it getting markedly worse? You’re simply perusing your personal Facebook feed, looking to catch up with friends, and you click on something – anything – and all of a sudden, the floodgates open. It’s like the algorithm says, ah, sucka, read this, answer that, order the set. We got’cha.

I clicked on shoe racks for my closet. Pretty innocent, right? But no. I was inundated, with metal racks, woven racks, wooden racks that fold up to almost nothing when not in use (just when am I going to store shoe racks?) It went on; closet organizers, multipants single hangar gizmos, new windows, a new bath, a new roof.

I clicked on “the best female singer of the ‘70s.” Hey, c’mon! I wanted to see what others thought. Although, to me, Aretha closes the voting. For the same reason, I clicked on the best opening sequence in a war picture (“Saving Private Ryan,” people!).

And, then, the movie you shouldn’t have watched as a child, because it ruined you for life (no, not “Rosemary’s Baby,” it’s “Psycho,” right?)

I clicked on “the three cars you’d most like to have in your garage.” And, again, I couldn’t help myself – I answered! Ferrari 250 GTO, Porsche 959 and a Bugatti Royale

The one car you wish you hadn’t sold, back in the day … just one?

Reminds me of the old cartoon where the guy is looking through binoculars at a stop sign, he randomly put up, in front of his house. There’s a car stopped in front of the sign. The caption says, “Hey, Martha, we got another one!”

How about the geography quizzes, where you click on the name of a man-made shipping canal and you’re immediately transported to a site that’s asking you for the color scheme of Madagascar’s official flag.

Or the sheet of numbers where you’re asked to find the outliers in the next five seconds and, if you can, you’re a confirmed genius. Although they often don’t tell you just how many different numbers you’re supposed to find, but it doesn’t matter, because time’s up.

Someone I’m close to calls it the heartbreak of a disease called “On-and-on-and-on.”

Get it? A distant cousin, twice removed, of diarrhea of the mouth.

What to do?

Sorry, I’m too busy clicking on “what’s my house worth.” And, boom, there’s my answer, give or take a $100,000 minimum to maximum spread.

I took a trip overseas earlier this year. It was a fateful mistake – on a daily basis, I’m now offered best price/unbeatable deals on ocean cruises, river cruises, staycations, guided tours to literally every tourist destination on the planet.

Here’s a piece of advice; “build” your own Porsche/BMW/Mercedes/Whatever on-line at your peril. Do you ever notice the “bubble” that suddenly appears in the corner, featuring a disembodied name that is ready and able to walk you through the purchase process? No matter the day or time?

But it’s too late. Because you’ll now be looking at on-line auction houses, and they’re featuring rolling classics that are listed at unreal prices … literally, because the auction still has days of bidding to go.

And the next day? It has spread to your e-mail. Something like “we noticed you perusing our site. Is there something we can help you with?” Or “care to take a second look?” Try blocking these missives. Just try. I think the blocks go to some dead blocking site, where a cabal of virtual witches sit around, howling at me

Then there’s the events/happenings/goings-on around town listings. They’re pretty innocent, right? Yeah, sure, until you realize that just about every burg in a large radius has now jumped on the “cars and coffee” thing. A question; when, why and how did the weekend hang multiply like rabbits? Are they all real? Then again, how can I possibly find out?

I’d really like to fight back. I’d like to line up a series of queries that would surely frazzle the algorithm so much that no amount of crying all the way to the Chat GPT portal will help. You know, something like “name the race track that’s most loved by every former Formula 1 champion who ever lived ” “Name the one corner that most pilots in F1 believe is the most daunting.” “Name the most beautiful car ever penned.” No, sorry, that’s already been done. “Name the best-sounding engines ever …” That’s been done, too – I’ve heard Senna lapping Monaco, Senna lapping Suzuka, the audio tracks of F1 V-8s, V-10s and V-12s. And, by the way, it all sounds far better than today’s turbo/hybrid V-6s.

But you knew that. What to do? Ask Claude for a solution? Fat chance. I think it’s time to go walk the dog, sans smartphone. At least she just doesn’t care.

The Stuttgart Market Letter

Four months in, and 2026’s total dollar volume is already more than halfway to 2025’s full-year total. March’s strength carried right into April, giving us another record-setting month with 741 Porsches crossing the block, 76% of them selling, for a total of $76,742,859. That compares to April 2025, when 664 cars crossed the block, also with a 76% sell-through rate, for a total of $56,730,704. That makes two months in a row where dollar volume eclipsed the previous year by more than $20m.

Leading the charge was a 2015 918 Spyder, the singular Paint to Sample Riviera Blue example with Weissach Package delivered to North America. Showing just 1,300 miles, it didn’t quite top the Orange example sold at Mecum earlier this year, but its $4,680,000 result firmly secured the number two spot for 918 Spyder sales over the last twelve months. Other heavy hitters at the top of the market came from the usual suspects at Singer Vehicle Design and RUF, but it was refreshing to see something from the golden era of Porsche motorsport crack the top ten. That honor went to a 1976 934 Race Car campaigned by Porsche-Kremer Racing in period, including a class win at the 1977 24 Hours of Le Mans. After several unsuccessful attempts to sell over the last few years, the historic racer finally changed hands at a final bid of $1,000,000, which feels like a strong buy for such an important piece of Porsche racing history.

One model that has seen significant upside so far this year is the 911 Dakar. Throughout 2025, Dakars generally traded in the $300,000-350,000 range, with only one example cresting the $400,000 mark. April gave us two. The first was a 2,184-mile example finished in Paint-toSample Acid Green over a Black leather and Race-Tex interior featuring Shade Green stitching, matte carbon fiber trim, Racing Yellow seatbelts, and aftermarket Pascha seat inserts. It sold at a final bid of $405,000. The second was another Paint-to-Sample car, this time finished in Stone Gray with “Rallye 1971” decals and showing just 346 miles. That example hammered at an impressive $460,000. Two new twelve-month highs for the model, back to back, in the same month.

Newer cars weren’t the only ones setting records. One of the more surprising results of the month came from the transaxle market with a 1988 944 Turbo S Silver Rose. Originally intended as a limited-run model, the Silver Rose package paired the uprated 250-horsepower Turbo S drivetrain and M030 suspension package with exclusive Silver Rose Metallic paint and the nowiconic Burgundy Studio Plaid interior. While Porsche ultimately built more Turbo S models than originally planned, true Silver Rose examples remain highly sought after today. This particular car showed just 7,500 miles and presented in phenomenal condition throughout, helping it hammer at an impressive $95,550. Just shy of the $100,000 mark, the strongest public Silver Rose sales we’ve seen to date.

Another surprise from April was the appearance of the first 992.2 Carrera T Club Coupe at auction. Introduced for 2026 as a 70-unit celebration of the Porsche Club of America’s 70th anniversary, the Club Coupe is based on the enthusiast-focused Carrera T and pairs a 388horsepower twin-turbo flat-six with a 6-speed manual transmission. Finished exclusively in Sholar Blue Metallic with PCA-specific detailing throughout, it follows in the footsteps of previous PCA anniversary Club Coupes and immediately became one of the most desirable special-edition 992s. Showing just 21 delivery miles, this example represented the first real public opportunity at ownership for those who missed out on an allocation. And bidders responded accordingly, pushing the final price to an eye-opening $346,500.

The Stuttgart Market Letter

As usual, the 356 market was a bit of a mixed bag. Thirty cars crossed the block in April with only 50% finding new homes. Speedsters dominated the top end of the market, accounting for four of the top five sales and posting a respectable 67% sell-through rate. Leading the way was a Hoffman-delivered 1957 356A Speedster that topped every other 356A Speedster sold at auction this year, whether online or in person. Originally finished in Red before being repainted Black under previous ownership, the car paired its striking exterior with a beautiful Red leather interior and Beige square-weave carpets. Backed by a rebuilt numbers-matching engine, it sold at a final bid of $491,000, comfortably eclipsing previous highs for the model.

My favorite 356 of the month, though, was a 1959 356A Convertible D finished in Auratium Green over Brown leather. Although refinished from its original Ruby Red during a 2021-2022 refurbishment and powered by a replacement 1.6-liter flat-four, the color combination looked fantastic. It ultimately sold at a final bid of $225,000, slightly below the twelve-month average, likely due to limited documentation surrounding the refurbishment work.

Overall, April was another exceptionally strong month for the Porsche market with strength at both the very top and across several enthusiast-driven segments. From record-setting modern special editions to strong results for analog-era cars, the market showed little sign of slowing as we head deeper into 2026. Looking ahead to May, we have the usual steady stream of online auction action along with two sales from Bonhams and one from Mecum. It will be interesting to see if the market can keep this incredible run going into the summer months.

What’s happening in the Porsche Market Place?

The M491 Package was introduced in 1984 as Porsche’s solution for markets like the United States where the 911 Turbo (930) was unavailable after 1979 due to emissions regulations. Initially offered in very limited numbers through Porsche’s Special Wishes (Sonderwunsch) program, demand was strong enough that it later became a regular option code. Far more than a cosmetic upgrade, M491 equipped a standard Carrera with Turbo-derived hardware, including wide front and rear fenders, the Turbo spoilers, heavy-duty suspension components, 930 brakes with larger cross-drilled rotors and four-piston calipers, and staggered 16-inch Fuchs wheels, delivering Turbo look and handling without forced induction.

This 1986 911 Carrera Targa came finished in Black over a Black partial leather interior, showed 97,000 miles, and was optioned with Porsche’s M491 Package along with the M470 “Spoiler Delete” Package. Previously converted to a Cabriolet, it was brought back to its original Targa Specification in 2024 as part of a comprehensive refurbishment by Gaudin Porsche of Las Vegas as part of the Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge, where it won the national championship in the Preservation Class. Along with the return to Targa, the car received a reseal of its 3.2-liter flat-six, refresh of the fuel system, and replacement of the wheels, tires and dampers.

Overall, Carrera 3.2 Targas have averaged $77,189 over the past twelve months, with a low of $35,600 and a high of $200,000 for a 7,000-mile M491-equipped example. Our Spotlight car, showing 97k miles, came close to that top number, selling at a final bid of $184,444.

Credit goes to the quality of the work completed, which clearly elevated this one into awardwinning territory.

Porsche Design Unveils the Chronograph 1

– PCA Member Edition

Porsche Design honors the 70th anniversary of the Porsche Club of America with a new edition of the Chronograph 1. Exclusively made for a special community, PCA members now have the opportunity to customize Porsche Design’s most iconic timepiece that was originally designed by F. A. Porsche in 1972.

Creating a special sense of community amongst members, this new timepiece features the PCA logo and “PORSCHE CLUB OF AMERICA” lettering, and optionally a personalized club region name stated on the case back. The made-to-order watch will not only come with a titanium bracelet, but also two sportive textile straps in vibrant Club Blau, one featuring the PCA logo and the other the PCA 70Y anniversary logo.

The PCA Registry program was established in 1995 to encourage closer relationships within Porsche model owners in PCA. The program allows PCA members to network with others in their specific area of interest. Sharing of information fosters restoration and maintenance of members’ automobiles. A registry can potentially provide a new resource for historical displays at Parades and other PCA events, along with information for articles in Porsche Panorama. Don’t see a registry for your Porsche? We are also looking for individuals who are interested in starting a registry for a model that doesn’t have an existing registry.
