Welcome to the 2025 Irish Greyhound Laurels ......
It is a pleasure to welcome you to Curraheen Park for the 2025 Irish Greyhound Laurels, one of the oldest classic events in Irish greyhound racing. The Laurels has earned a special place on our annual calendar as a race that brings together the finest greyhounds, the most talented trainers and a passionate community of racing supporters. It is where emerging stars make their mark and established champions prove their class, all while celebrating the tradition, excitement and culture of Irish greyhound racing. With a total prize fund of €60,000 we eagerly await to see who will claim the €30,000 winner’s prize and be crowned the 2025 Laurels champion. We are all looking forward to another edge-of-your-seat final after last year’s unforgettable victory by Crafty Shivoo, trained by Pat Norris. This year also marks the third year of a successful four-year partnership between two great supporters of greyhound racing. Bar One Racing, led by CEO Barney O’Hare, and The Friends & Supporters of Cork Greyhound Racing, chaired by the legendary Jimmy Barry Murphy, have worked together since 2023 to ensure the Laurels remains one of the most high-profile and prestigious events on the Irish racing calendar. For the second year in a row the Laurels Final is being broadcast live on Virgin Media Television bringing the action to a national audience. At the same time sisracing.tv is delivering every moment of the excitement to greyhound fans across the world, sharing the energy and atmosphere of Curraheen Park far and wide. I want to thank all the owners, trainers, kennel staff, sponsors, supporters and the Cork community whose dedication and enthusiasm make this event possible. I wish all finalists and their connections the very best of luck and hope everyone enjoys a thrilling evening of top-class racing. Le meas,
Pat Flanagan

LAURELS 2025 - PATH TO THE FINAL
OPENING ROUND:
The opening round of the Laurels had it all. A huge crowd and two magical sub28-second winning performances.
The Dowling kennels enjoyed a fantastic double, and all the talk was about the top-class winning run of Ballymac Setanta in heat eight. The 4-5 favourite wasn't the quickest away; however, he flew into the opening corners and quickly took up the running. Powering down the back straight, it was clear he was on for a big run. Strong to the winning line, the impressive winner clocked 27.94, the quickest run of the night, and four lengths clear of the runningon Born To Perform. Ballymac Brandan caught the eye, winning the seventh heat for trainer Liam Dowling. The 7-2 shot was in front early, and he was brave up front, showing real pace and power to deny Lemon Joey. Little between them on the turns for home, the Ballymac runner had all the answers up front. A neck the margin, in 28.31. Trained by Robert Gleeson for the Newmarket Racing Syndicate, Droopys Patriot was back to his brilliant best in the fifth. The 5-2 winner got the better of Unanimous Leo in a fantastic race to the opening corner, and the classy performer was flying down the back straight. Galloping strongly to the winning line, Droopys Patriot clocked a sensational 27.99, three lengths clear of Unanimous Leo in second place. Solo And Go was a short-priced favourite for heat nine, but he was in early trouble, and it was Priceless Romeo who slipped around in front, and once he led, it was game over. Trained by Paul Hennessy for owners Bryan and Kathleen Murphy, the 6-4 second favourite pulled away on the back straight, and he clocked top-class finishing sectionals to win with plenty to spare. The puppy, Ballycowen Archy, ran very well in second, five and a half lengths back. Ante post favourite Solo And Go enjoyed a luckless run, but he qualified in fourth. Sirius Alpha, trained by Kieran Lynch for owners the Sirius Syndicate, had plenty of supporters in the closing heat, and he didn't let them down as the super talented tracker delivered another high-class performance. The 2-1 winner displayed his usual big early speed to lead, and in truth, the outcome was never in any doubt. Staying on well up front, he beat Prince Naseem by two lengths, in 28.23. A recent winner of the Empress Stakes at Towcester, Silverhill Freya got the job done in heat number 10. The 4-7 favourite, trained by Gra-

ham Holland for Eugene Buckley, was in front early, and she kept finding at the head of affairs. A 28.55 winning run, a neck clear of the fast finishing Aherla Rocco. Trainer Jennifer O'Donnell enjoyed a great double. The well-backed Born Braver made no mistakes when winning the fourth. The 4-5 favourite showed a nice injection of speed to lead at the opening bends and from there, he always looked good. Da Tapper Flynn ran a big race in second, three lengths back, in 28.33. On just her fourth career outing, The Other Mel delivered a smashing performance to complete the O'Donnell double. Owned by the Born Wild Syndicate, the 5-2 winner tracked beautifully to slip around the opening corners in front, and she went on to land the spoils, in 28.46, a length clear of Gortkelly John in second. In superb form in recent times, Lemon Herbie took the third heat. Trained by Murt Leahy for the Factory 4 Syndicate, the 3-1 winner displayed stunning early speed to win the all-important early lead. From there, it was all plain sailing. A brilliant 28.31 winning run, four lengths clear of Boozed Burgess. In the opening heat, Lamrock Ace, trained by Karol Ramsbottom for owners Brian and Michael Nash, pulled out all the stops to land the spoils. The 3-1 shot kept on well to deny Barefoot On Fire, by half a length, in 28.63. Magical Keith just did enough to win the second heat for trainer Patrick Guilfoyle. Owned by S.G.Harvey, the 4-7 favourite just made the corner in front, in control heading down the back, the winner held on to beat the fast finishing Moorstown Knight, by a length, in 28.63.
SECOND ROUND:
Ballymac Setanta once again delivered another spectacular performance at Curraheen Park on Saturday night as the Liam Dowling-trained runner set the standard in round two of the Bar One Racing in association with the Friends & Supporters of Cork Greyhound Racing Irish Greyhound Laurels. DOWLING ON THE DOUBLE
The 4-6 favourite produced a moderate start, but he was showing lovely pace into the opening corner. Faypoint Harvey was setting the fractions up front, and the impressive winner displayed massive pace down the back
straight, leading before the third corner. Staying on powerfully up front, the Ballymac runner came home two lengths clear of Faypoint Harvey, in the quickest of the session, a flying 28.09 on tough conditions. Solo And Go completed the Dowling double as the leading fancy for outright glory bounced back to winning ways after a luckless run last week. Owned by the Kingdom Palace Syndicate, the 4-6 favourite took a flyer to lead early, and the outcome was never in any doubt. Magical On Fire made late gains to get within a length in 28.25.
DROOPYS IMPRESSIVE ONCE MORE
Droopys Patriot made no mistakes as the Robert Gleeson-trained runner led early and went on to win easily. In the ownership of the Newmarket Racing Syndicate, the 2-5 favourite took control before the opening corner, and he pulled away on the back straight. A 28.29 winning run, seven and a half lengths clear of Unanimous Leo, who himself ran well for second after doing things wrong early on.
IN OTHER HEATS
Prince Naseem, trained by Patrick Guilfoyle for owner Kim Bergin, caught the eye when winning and returning to winning ways. The 4-1 shot came away racing to lead, and from there, it was game over. Such a strong running tracker, the powerful running tracker kept on well up front, coming home five lengths clear of the unlucky in running Born To Perform. Out of luck in recent times, Faypoint Ranger made full use of the inside line to return to winning form. Trained by Graham Holland for owner Patricia Flanagan, the even-money favourite flew into the opening corner in front, pulling clear down the back, he came home five lengths clear of Ballymac Brandan, in 28.17. Only on his fourth career start, Ballycowen Archy, trained by Dean Harpur for Debbie Doyle, was another to bounce out in front and make all the running. It's a fantastic litter and the wellbred January puppy displayed plenty of early pace to lead. Always doing enough up front, the exciting prospect got the better of Bruce Bay by a length and a half, in 28.64, at odds of 4-1. Boozed Burgess, trained by Paraic Campion for Ozzie Bennett, made all the running to win, in 28.63. A consistent sort for connections, the 7-2 shot was in front early, and he kept finding generously at the head of affairs. A really determined effort, coming home a length clear of the running on Made To Measure. Lemon Joey, trained by Murt Leahy for owners The Short Back And Shoes Syndicate, deliv-
ered a fine 28.42 winning performance. The talented performer produced one of his quickest starts, and in truth, he always looked good up front. Showing plenty of pace throughout, he got the better of Blastoff Heffo by a length and a half, in 28.42. The first four races were rated sand. Races five, six, and seven were 0.10 slow, and the final couple of races were 0.20 slow.
QUARTER FINALS:
Ballymac Setanta, for the kennel of Liam Dowling, was the star performer in Curraheen Park on Saturday night, as the 4-5 favourite made it three straight wins and the January puppy clocked an outstanding 27.81, which equaled the track record set by Ilnotbeback back in 2022.
It was a real race to the opening corner, and it was Solo And Go who broke in front; however, the impressive winner was showing real pace to the corner, and with the advantage of the inside, he just slipped around in front. A length and a bit the margin throughout the back straight, Ballymac Setanta pulled away on the home straight, powering home to win, by four lengths. Six lengths back to Prince Naseem in third place. It was a quick double for Liam Dowling after Ballymac Brandan delivered a fine front-running winning performance in the second heat. The 5-2 shot displayed lovely early speed to just lead around from Unanimous Leo, and from there, he always looked good up front. A litter brother to Setanta, Brandan kept on well to beat Leo, by two lengths, in 28.23. Seven and a half lengths back to Trions Tribe in third place. In the opening heat, Droopys Patriot, trained by Robert Gleeson for owners the Newmarket Racing Syndicate, drove a brave opening corner to lead around from Faypoint Harvey. Kicking for home on the back straight, the 4-7 favourite quickly opened up a healthy advantage, and from there, punters who took short odds never had a moment's worry. It's now three straight wins, in 28.28, five and a half lengths clear of Faypoint Harvey, with a short head back to Made To Measure. Magical On Fire, for Patrick Guilfoyle, was another to dip under the 28-second barrier when delivering a superb performance in the closing heat. The powerful running tracker led early, so in truth, it was game over. Showing bundles of speed up front, the even-money winner pulled right away to beat Lemon Joey, by three and a half lengths, in 27.89. Two and a half lengths to Blastoff Heffo in third place.

SEMI FINALS:
Ballymac Setanta once again set the standard in the Bar One Racing in association with the Friends & Supporters of Cork Greyhound Racing Irish Greyhound Laurels when the in-form tracker made it four wins on the bounce with his third sub28-second winning performance for Liam Dowling.
The 5-4 second favourite produced a decent start, but it was his big pace to the opening corner which was key. Just making the bend in front, he slipped around from both Trionas Tribe and Magical On Fire. From here, it always looked game over. Favourite Droopys Patriot missed the kick, and he could never recover. Up front, it was all about Ballymac Senanta, and he delivered another sensational winning
run. Galloping strongly to the line, the Ballymac runner came home three lengths clear of Magical On Fire, in 27.99, with the same distance back to Trionas Tribe in third place. Lemon Joey came home in front in the second semi-final for trainer Murt Leahy and owners the Short Back And Sides Syndicate. All six were in the mix early, and it was a real race to the opening bend where Lemon Joey just slipped around in front on the outside from both Ballymac Brandan and Solo And Go. The 5-1 winner is always a tough nut to crack when leading, and Lemon Joey displayed his usual big speed at the head of affairs. Pulling away, he came home a fantastic winner, clocking 28.09, six lengths clear of Solo And Go, with a length back to Ballymac Brandan in third place. Finally, Liam Dowling has three of the six runners in the feature final.

Probable SP: 5-1
A very talented tracker who delivered his best run of the event in the second round when making all the running, in 28.25. Has delivered two fine performances in recent weeks, displaying plenty of pace from tricky draws in trap four. Goes best from the inside of the track so the draw in trap one is a massive plus. Has stunning early speed and should go close. A litter brother to Ballymac Setanta, this January puppy has really impressed in the event over the last couple of weeks. He clocked 28.23 in winning two runs ago and he's another with plenty of early pace. Drawn well in trap two, he is capable of a big run, however, he will need an explosive start to slip around in front and lead this high class field early on. Unbeaten so far in the event and the hugely exciting youngster equaled the track record of 27.81 two runs ago. Setanta has been the star of the competition, posting three magical sub 28-second winning performances. Impressive when overcoming trap four last week. Needs to come away racing, but has sensational speed and must go close. Should be in the mix throughout. Huge player. Such a strong and powerful running lady. The pacey performer has really hit top form in recent weeks, clocking a top class 27.89 two starts ago. Another huge performance in defeat last week, running a massive race behind Ballymac Setanta from a tough draw out wide. Trap four won't be easy either, however, with a bit of luck in running, she has the pace to run into the frame.
TRIONAS TRIBE Probable SP: 33-1
Started as one of the big outsiders for outright glory but to be fair, this big local runner is here on merit. Always looked a nice sort and has clocked 28.31 in winning around course and distance. Has finished third in all four previous rounds and more will be needed to get in the mix tonight. A big night connections, but plenty of luck will be needed.
LEMON JOEY Probable SP: 4-1
A winner of the National Produce Stakes in Clonmel earlier this year, this strong running tracker has really impressed in recent weeks. Not short of pace, when he comes away on terms, he is as quick as any. A most impressive winner last week, clocking 28.09. He should enjoy plenty of racing room out wide and he's capable of running a big race. One to watch.
SELECTIONS 1-3-6
LAURELS WINNER - 20 YEARS AGO
By Barry Drake
Tyrur Ted was one of the many great winners of the Irish Greyhound Laurels when the son of Top Honcho and Watch The Market won what is known as the Cork Derby back in 2005. Everything went to plan for the 4/6 favourite in the feature final. The powerful running tracker powered down the back straight on that famous night, and in truth, he ran out a convincing champion. It was a 28.33 winning performance, the second fastest time in the final since the event moved to Curraheen Park in 2000. Goblet of Fire stuck on gamely for second - a comfortable length and a half ahead of Knockna Kirka. Trained by Paul Hennessy for PJ Fahy, Hennessy told the Irish Examiner after the race: “The dog is a machine. He just loves his racing. It takes a special dog to produce a performance like he did tonight.”
LAURELS WINNER - 10 YEARS AGO 2015 was the year of Midtown Raffa (Kinloch Brae-Rafa Baby) and trainer Maurice O'Connor. Owned by the Skevena Syndicate, Rafa really impressed in winning the Laurels as the classy performer won four of the five rounds.
He saved his performance for the feature final as the 2-1 favourite led early and went on to win in great style. It was a stunning 28.31 winning performance, five and a half lengths clear of Burgess Rumble, with a short head back to Mimis Ace in third place. It was a third Laurels success for O'Connor, having previously won it back in 1990 with Ardraville Bridge and again in 2003 with Nikita Billie. I spoke to Maurice shortly after the final, and he had this to say: "It's a dream to win a third Laurels. The Laurels is a great competition and, for me, when you have a pup, it's the one you want to win. I've had a good deal of luck at this track. Cork is a good hunting ground for me. The dog came here with a decent reputation - he was favourite from the start and we knew he could do the clock. The Irish Derby could be next."
LAURELS WINNER - 5 YEARS AGO Runninta Seeya (Droopys Sydney-Droopys Harbour) trained in Blarney by John Linehan for The Runninta Seeya Syndicate, Ardee, landed the 2020 running of The Irish Greyhound Laurels at Curraheen Park. In doing so, he had to survive a three-way photo finish in what was one of the most exciting finishes seen at the venue. The flying start of the winner was key to his success; a 3.27 sectional was enough to see him go around in front, and it did get very tight late on, as Blastoff Fire powered home to get within a short head, in 28.38. Just a neck back to Brodys Magic in third place. Speaking after that famous first Laurels success, Linehan said: "It was great for the owners, great for ourselves, so delighted to win it finally. We never had a finalist before, and the next thing is we ended up with two; it was brilliant to get the job done." Runninta Seeya, winner of the 2020 Irish Greyhound Laurels Final. Photographed with handler Kieran Walsh.
