As the longest-standing provider of higher education in Daviess County, Brescia University is firmly rooted in its student-centered mission to provide transformational education that meets the individual needs of each student in pursuit of higher education. Since 1925, when it first formed as the Mount Saint Joseph College for Women, to 1948 when it moved to the heart of downtown Owensboro in order to be most accessible to the needs of Veterans returning from WWII, to present day where it serves as the “Gateway to Downtown,” Brescia University has been a cornerstone in the foundation of the Greater Owensboro Community as well as the global population it serves. As we near the completion of Brescia University’s first century, Brescia’s spiritual founder, St. Angela
Amped Up Artistry is inspired by the vibrant legacy of Greater Owensboro and envisions the city as a canvas to reflect our community’s distinctive identity and leave a lasting impression on all who visit.
Merici’s instruction to “read the signs of the times and adapt” is as critical today as it was when St. Angela first spoke these words to her community of Ursuline sisters in 1535. In the most recent strategic plan, centered around CARITAS, Brescia’s faculty, staff and students are guided by the words of Jesus that we must love one another as we have been loved by God. Brescia University will strive to embody the call to Love, consistent with our Ursuline legacy, by creating a culture of diversity and inclusion that promotes Authentic Communities and that seeks to find and remove unjust barriers that hinder learning and human flourishing with the intentional use of Universal Design. Brescia is focused on producing servant leaders whose lives exemplify leadership capabilities balanced with the responsibility of service. It is what we call the Brescia Difference: Respect for the Sacred; Devotion to Learning; Commitment to Growth in Virtue; and Promotion of Servant Leadership.

This program highlights the works of talented local artists in a unique way, by placing them on traffic signal boxes along Second Street. These pieces feature different aspects of our community from bourbon to the bridge, from Bluegrass music to the natural beauty of our area.
Entries were submitted by several local artists, with five pieces selected in this initial phase.

INSPIRED BY THE VIBRANT LEGACY OF GREATER OWENSBORO
Jamie Buskill retired from Boardwalk Pipelines in 2022 after 35 years of service, the last 19 of which he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. As CFO, Jamie spent most of 2005 in New York, taking Boardwalk public on the New York Stock Exchange and capping off the year with the ringing of the opening bell on the floor of the NYSE. During his tenure as CFO, Jamie was responsible for raising approximately $20 billion in both the equity and bond markets, primarily to finance acquisitions and growth projects. In 2018, Jamie assisted in taking Boardwalk back to being privately held, and at that time was appointed to Boardwalk’s Board of Directors, where he served until his retirement in 2022. Throughout his career, Jamie served on various industry associations and was featured as the cover story of two trade magazines – the Pipeline & Gas Journal and Midstream Business. Jamie is proud to call Kentucky and Owensboro home. In fact, despite his heavy travel load, he never moved. Over the last 15 years of his career, Jamie would travel every week, mainly to Houston, and would fly back at the end of the week to spend at home in Owensboro. Traveling made it difficult to participate in Owensboro activities, but he did find time to serve on Brescia’s Board of Trustees from 2005-2017 where he also served on the finance committee. Jamie is also proud of the education he received in Owensboro. He graduated from Daviess County High School in 1982, and then attended Brescia University, graduating in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Managerial Accounting with a minor in Economics. While working at Boardwalk, he obtained his MBA from Murray State in 1991. Since retiring, Jamie and his wife Ann enjoy spending time with their growing number of grandkids, traveling, taking care of their horses on their farm, and spending time at their Lake Barkley log cabin.
