Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestras Now in its 30th season, the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestras (GNOYO) is an independent non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire young musicians through engaging and rewarding orchestral music experience. Young musicians, ages 7 to pre-professional, are placed by audition in GNOYO’s challenging and rewarding orchestral programs. Five orchestras and three outreach programs are offered: • Symphony • Philharmonia and North Shore Philharmonia • Sinfonia and North Shore Sinfonia • Young Artist Academy • Chamber Music Groups • Endangered Instruments Program • New Orleans Boys’ Choir • New Orleans Girls’ Choir Each season, GNOYO also presents an annual Young Soloists Concerto Competition, three major performances, community outreach concerts, and summer programs. Participants significantly improve individual performance and ensemble skills, while developing the attitudes and discipline that helps them take initiative in their schools and community. Recent seasons have included a concert at Carnegie Hall, a five-city tour of France, and collaborations with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and the New Orleans Ballet Association. GNOYO is the proud recipient of the 2006 Coming Up Taller Award and Governor’s Arts Award in Arts Education.
