JANUARY 2023 kicked off fast with the Town Council voting to approve the purchase of Easton Woodland Park. Our Engineering team was working with Public Works to construct new sidewalks along Elliot Rd., and our Public Works team also took truckloads of Christmas trees out to Tilghman Island to help with habitat restoration on Poplar Island.

FEBRUARY February saw supervisors across our entire organization in the middle of leadership training from the Dale Carnegie program. Our Planning and Zoning team launched their Eye over Easton Interactive Map, EPD saw several promotions as a reult of a professional development program, and Easton EDC held their annual FIRE & ICE Festival.

In March, our Potato Race team “Starch Your Engines” tasted sweet, starchy victory at the St. Patricks Day Potato Race. The Town was granted state approval for the funds to purchase Easton Woodland Park. The St Patrick’s Day Parade was a huge success, and our Engineering team made significant progress on the Windmill Branch Stream Restoration Project.

April saw lots of new things come our way: The Plastic Bag ban went into effect on April 2, a ribbon cutting and inaugural walk was held for the Rails to Trails extension from Aurora St. to Port St., and our Public Works department welcomed a new street sweeper to the fleet. We also said goodbye to Alan Conaway, and Easton EDC held their Easter Egg Hunt on the courthouse lawn.

Easton made history with the election of our first female mayor, Mayor Megan Cook. Maureen Curry and David Montgomery also took seats on the council for Ward 1 and Ward 3, respectively. Easton employees helped beautify the town by planting flowerbeds with Easton EDC, and Justin Jones and Glen Towers had some late night heroics at a blocked storm drain.

We trekked up to Pennsylvania with our friends at EVFD to pick up not one, but two brand new Sutphen fire trucks to serve Easton. Nearing the end of summer, our Public Works team made major progress on the bond projects, including the Dog Park, Skatepark, Pump Track, and the undergrounding of wires along Port St. At EPD, Patrolman Gregory Hall graduated from Comparitive Compliance certidication and came back to join our team. EPD also welcomed a new four-legged teammate, Waylon, to the force.

SEPTEMBER In September, new Council President Frank Gunsallus was sworn in, the Town took part in a September 11 memorial ceremony, and we took the DHCD on a tour of block grant projects across Town showcasing some of the great community work being done by federal grant money.
