Welcome Truckers

To the 2024 Grand National F-100 show! It is extremely exciting to introduce our new expanded outside venue here at the LeConte Center. Last year the show hit a milestone with Trucker’s attendance exceeding expectations. This new area has been under construction for the past few years starting with expanding parking utilizing pavers instead of asphalt

for a more aesthetic appearance, plus a much cooler experience. Then a new pedestrian bridge was built to connect all to the LeConte Center. This new area provides the show with more room for trucks, swap meet and vendors.

The Classic Truck hobby is growing! The Grand National F-100 show has become a true world-wide event. In 2023 we had Truckers attend from all over the globe. Folks from Europe, South America, Mexico, Canada, Australia, not to mention from all over the US. Many driving their trucks to the show!

Please welcome our vendors and swap meet folks to the show by exploring and buying their products. You will see many new vendors this year including those who have attended in the past, adding to the size and scope of the show. There is a lot to see and learn. The show is as much about the people as it is about the trucks.

A Look Back at the 2023

Another year, another amazing cruise through the Smokies!

The world’s largest Classic Ford Truck Show took place on May 16-20, 2023 in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Exactly 1,121 Blue Ovals registered, with several thousands of spectators entering through the gates to look at all the beautiful rides and shop at one of the biggest vendor swap meets for F-100 enthusiasts in the country!

Registered vehicles competed in various awards and Truck of the Year in several different classes. For special awards, Byron Welch took home the Dan Ford Spirit Award, and Macey Madden took home the Incredible Youth Award. Congratulations to all the winners!

For more information, check out www.gnf100show.com. The show is open to all Ford pickups 1996 and older F-1, F-100 and F-150 models. (No Broncos or Rancheros).

Champ Meet

Champ Dial is the husband to Meagan Carpenter-Dial and the father to Vedah, Jude, and Able Dial. Champ is the Operations Manager for We Pack Logistics. Champ has an undergraduate degree in Biology, a Masters in Science Education, and a Doctorate Degree in Organizational Leadership.

At the show, Champ works both behind the scenes and out with the public. You will see him doing everything from taking trash off, parking trucks, to answering questions and more!

Chuck has been a part of the truck show since we started the show in 2018. He sees the vision and loves the Ford Truck Family.

HOT RODS CRUISIN’ METAL SIGNS & T-SHIRTS

Dr. Dave at Dennis Carpenter snagged the wheels off a 2002 Mustang and plugged then onto the DC shop truck giving it a whole new attitude.

Powered by the original 6 cylinder running gear and wearing its original thinning green paint, this 1956 F-100 long bed shows minimal amounts of rust or dents and exudes the patina vibe to the max. Fact is nobody likes washing and waxing shop trucks anyway so leaving the body “as-is” was a no brainer, though it did need a different set of wheels to increase the “Wow” factor.

In this case, we used a set of factory Ford 17” Buillitt wheels that came off a 2002 Mustang GT that was setting in our backyard. This gave us the opportunity to get resourceful and at the same time, give us the retro look we were searching for with a minimal outlay of cash. Since the truck still uses its original hubs, we did need to use wheel adapters in order to mount the Mustang wheels.

Here are the tire sizes the doctor ordered to give the DC ‘56 shop truck that most desirable rubber rake. On the front he mounted a pair of Cooper 225/60R17s and on the rear he chose beefier 245/65R17s to better fill out the wheel wells. We also think lower is better and to bring the beast a bit closer to the ground we installed a dropped axle and sandwiched some lowering blocks between the rear axle and springs. All in all, we think the operation was a success.

more

The original Ford “Horsey” center emblems were sent to the glue factory and we replaced them with
suitable wheel centers. The machine shop at Carpenter was responsible for whittling the four, slightly domed, aluminum center caps that now adorn the 5-spoke Bullitt wheels. We think they look really cool.
This 2002 Mustang GT was set out to pasture years ago and donated its factory 17” American Torq-Thrust inspired wheels to the cause. Luckily, the aluminum alloy wheels were void of any major scarring and only needed some cleaning before they found their way onto the DC shop truck.

Remembering

Roger Eugene Altop

February 19, 1953 — January 9, 2024

It was incredibly sad news to hear of the passing of our dear friend Roger Altop in January, 2024. His contributions to the F-100 community have left an indelible mark, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Roger served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. If you knew Roger, then you knew he loved God, family, friends, and country in this order. Roger was a retired fabricator with NASCAR and an avid NASCAR fan.

Roger was not just a fellow enthusiast, he was a cherished member of our F-100 family, bringing passion, camaraderie, and a genuine love for Ford trucks to our community. His war spirit and willingness to share knowledge enriched the experiences of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

In addition to his impact on our community, Roger was especially known for is beloved F-100, Sinclair, a truck that reflected not only his automotive prowess but also his personal connection to the vehicles we all hold dear. Roger was the true Ford Truck Celebrity!

Rest in peace our good friend.
