New VR experience makes space travel possible—kind of

It sounds like the plot of a movie you might have seen recently: You’ve traveled more than 11 light years aboard a spaceship. After entering cryogenic sleep for more than two centuries, you’re awakened to views of the cosmos and the final approach to a new world.

This is just the beginning of your adventure at AREA15’s new virtual-reality experience, Interstellar Arc. The custom-built venue that spans more than 20,000 square feet comes from the imagination and innovative work of Felix & Paul Studios, immersive entertainment pioneers that have collaborated with Cirque du Soleil, Jurassic World and Space Explorers: The ISS Experience.

“Exploration drives humanity forward,” Félix Lajeunesse, co-founder and chief creative officer of Felix & Paul Studios, said in a release. “Interstellar Arc imagines how intergenerational collaboration, and advancements in science and technology, will propel our future among the stars. Humanity is a young species in a young universe, and our journey into the cosmos is just beginning, creating an opportunity for us to imagine what that future will look like. Early participants have praised Interstellar Arc for its emotional depth, cinematic atmosphere, and shared sense of connection, while others highlighted its awe-inspiring

scale and magnitude.”

You first step foot inside the HEXO Spaceport One and get a tutorial of how your VR headset works. Once the set is turned on, visuals and audio kick in, and you’re transported to a virtual world that feels so real you’ll need to get your bearings for a minute or two.

Next, you’ll take a seat on the tram and get whisked away to the spaceship, where your journey to the new world begins. After stepping off the ship, the world is then yours to explore, with furry little guides to help you along the way. Every step reveals the new human experience and new landscapes. Reach out and touch floating lanterns, stars, clouds and trees, or look above, below and to your sides and catch glimpses of the vast world around you.

“Interstellar Arc is the next evolution of entertainment,” said Lajeunesse. “You’re not passively watching the story of space travel, you’re actively experiencing it with all of your senses. Do That Good Work and Eat Hearty!

There are two weeks in Las Vegas where even the most die-hard of foodies will have a difficult time experiencing everything they want to. From June 1-12, more than a hundred eateries all over Vegas and surrounding communities participate in Las Vegas Restaurant Week , serving up delicious menus while also helping those communities.

Restaurant Week, which way back was only a week, has expanded through the years to fill two weeks (and occasionally even three). The basic concept allows restaurants to create a three-course prix fixe menu from $20-$120, and donate part of the proceeds from that menu to Three Square Food Bank, which serves thousands of valley residents. One of the best facets of the event is how diners figure out where they are going to eat and when, solved by Restaurant Week’s dynamic website, which allows one to search and sort by price, by cuisine, by time of day and part of the valley. I have extensively used this planning tool in the past, salivating over menus and plotting my reservations. (And reservations are highly recommended and often required, due to the popularity

of Restaurant Week.) A map and contact information are available on every menu page.

This year, choices are better than ever, including items like bread pudding (pictured) at House of Blues at Mandalay Bay on the south Strip; decadent county fair-style goodies at Braud’s Funnel Cake Café in Town Square Las Vegas on the south Strip; tacos, ceviche, branzino and sashimi Mexicano at Toca Madera at The Shops at Crystals in the center Strip; and newly opened Hedary’s Mediterranean, at The Gramercy in the trendy southwest area of Las Vegas.

If you love Italian cuisine, Ferraro’s Ristorante to the east of the Strip is offering a four-course menu, with carpaccio di manzo, bucatini amatriciana, branzino and filet mignon among the choices. A longtime parter in Restaurant Week, Ferraro’s executive chef Mimmo Ferraro said in a release, “Going on 16 years of participation, we take pride in continuing to raise the bar for our Restaurant Week menu while contributing to a cause we deeply care about.” –Nina King

Tropical theme nights set the tone at Strip speakeasy

If you know, you know about Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den. The intimate speakeasy located behind the Fuhu Shack stall inside Famous Foods Street Eats has garnered a reputation for unique and bespoke cocktails, dope decor and themed activations that immerse guests in other locales.

The speakeasy ups the game again with its new tropical takeover through Aug. 30. Once you gain access inside the venue (you walk through one wall of the stall that moves!), you’re enveloped in lush island-inspired decor. Visuals include beachy accents, cascading tropical flo -

rals, woven textures, rattan lanterns and vibrant colors. On Friday nights, DJs take over the venue for High Fidelity Fridays, where they take it back to the old-school and spin all vinyl.

Along with the tropical setting, new fruit-forward cocktails with island-inspired ingredients have been added to the menu—think all those yummy piña coladas, margaritas, daiquiris and more, all with Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den’s unique twists to the classic recipes.

At the speakeasy, encounter some of the best bartenders on the Strip—these peeps know their cocktails. Bartenders

love when guests order the Bartender’s Choice, a popular pick on the menu. This is where guest and bartender get to create a unique cocktail together based on the guest’s taste, likes, dislikes, even hobbies and interests.

All-male revue continues to thrill audiences decades in

When it comes to the perfect ladies’ night out, look no further than Thunder From Down Under, the long-running male revue filled with energy, high production values, hypnotic dance moves and some of the most chiseled physiques you’ll ever see collected in one spot.

This show, which celebrates its 25th anniversary at Excalibur soon, is so ingrained in the Vegas fabric that the Clark County Commission declared July 5-13 as Thunder From Down Under Week!

And once you attend a performance, you get it: This is every fantasy you’ve ever had fulfilled. If you haven’t been yet, it’s time to discover Juliet Cocktail Room . Between the beautiful decor and inventive cocktail program, it’s a destination that never disappoints in experiencing the best the city has to offer. Since 2022, the welcoming and spacious lounge has served up fun nights with a diverse lineup of live entertainment and eye-catching, uniquely tasting cocktails.

“Guests will experience a cultivated

nightlife environment with a touch of classic Las Vegas,” said Chris Zadie, vice president of food and beverage for 81/82 Group, owners of Juliet Cocktail Room. “We offer live entertainment with a very modern take on the Strip, from the cocktail presentation to the service offering and the overall nightlife experience. It’s refined but still energetic. You can come in for live music, stay for the atmosphere and transition

into a more elevated nightlife setting as the evening unfolds.”

If you’ve been before, then a return visit is in order, as Juliet Cocktail Room recently added new cocktails to the menu. “The libations are as enchanting as they are tantalizing,” Zadie said.

A few of the new concoctions include the Chai’d and True with Hendry’s vodka, Mr. Black coffee liqueur, chai latte mix and cream. “(It) originally

evolved from a matcha latte cocktail we had on the menu—we started noticing chai lattes coming back into popularity, so I wanted to create something that stayed ahead of the times: a chai latte cocktail that feels a little more fun and unexpected,” Zadie said. The Diamonds Are Forever, mixed with D’Ussé cognac, High West rye, Amaro Montenegro, sweet vermouth and orange bitters, “is a classic spin on a Vieux Carré,” Zadie said. And the Eve’s Apple is a lip-smacking shot of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Apple, cinnamon, fresh apple and caramel. “Jack Daniel’s released an apple whiskey that I thought was really interesting, so we leaned into that and created more of a caramel apple-style shot,” Zadie said. “It’s inspired by the idea of the poison apple, but with Eve’s Apple, it’s a little more seductive.”

Other new menu items include spirit-forward cocktail Fields of Norway with Norwegian aquavit; the Nice Pear, a unique blend of whiskey, fresh pear, maple syrup, a touch of bacon fat and egg white; and another shot-based delight, the Pepino Malo Shot with watermelon, tequila and Gran Malo, which gives it a tamarind-style taste.

Maroon by Kwame Onwuachi highlights imaginative Caribbean cuisine

One of the trendiest openings in Vegas this year has to be Maroon by Kwame Onwuachi. The buzz around the new SAHARA Las Vegas restaurant opening has been pretty loud, with media and fans of the chef’s East Coast endeavors posting mouthwatering videos and photos.

Onwuachi, a James Beard Award-winning chef and a competitor for two seasons of Top Chef, has restaurants in Washington, D.C., and in New York, as well as Vegas. For each of his restaurants, Onwuachi drew upon cuisines and flavors that reflected the experience of African people over the centuries. For Maroon, Onwuachi drew inspiration from Afro-Caribbean cuisine, saying in a recent release, “Maroon is a reflection of my heritage and the stories that have shaped my cooking. We are taking the foundation of a classic steakhouse and reimagining it through the lens of Afro-Caribbean cuisine.”

Maroon’s decor, envisioned by New York-based architectural firm Modellus Novus, which designed his two East Coast restaurants, channels Jamaican material choices, color palettes and lighting designs and combines that with desert elements for a unique look.

Tropical flavors shine in the cocktail menu here, with options like a Blue Mountain sour with Appleton Estate rum, allspice and thyme; the Allspice Spritz, a mixture of a house-made Caribbean Pimm’s, lemon, agave, strawberry, mint and sparkling wine; and Demerara River,

with bourbon, rum crème de cacao and peach, all excellent ways to welcome the coming meal. Wines are sourced from all over, from California to Spain, making a pairing easy.

”The menu is a bold and precise story of my journey, designed to leave a lasting impression on guests,” said Onwuachi.

The showcase of vibrant flavors Onwuachi has imbued Maroon with begins with the appetizers, where a simple scan of the menu leaves you wowed. They include curried mussel toast with Bluebay mussels and shito crunch on hardo bread (hardo is firm and chewy); jerk clam flatbread; curried goat agnolotti, finished with a blended velouté, confit pearl onion and chicken jus (a favorite of foodies); and braised oxtail Wellington for two. This Wellington has deep flavor, with braised oxtail, jerk beef bacon and black truffles.

The rum-aged steaks aren’t something you’ll find in many other steakhouses—the Rosewood Ranch cuts include a wagyu tenderloin, 30-day dry-aged New York Strip, and 40-day dry-aged porterhouses and ribeyes. The jerk pit, a centerpiece of the kitchen, produces smoky, spicy entrées like whole or half chickens, a pork tomahawk and rack of lamb.

Like most steakhouses, seafood is a big component of the menu, and that seems

particularly important here given the Jamaican influence. The reference to Hellshire Beach draws up images of seaside stands serving the freshest catch while white sands and blue skies provide the backdrop. Here, your choices include banana leaf snapper with tamarind chutney and curried squash and okra; curry shrimp, which comes out with head-on shrimp in coconut curry; woodfired lobster with garlic-herb butter; and crispy Chilean sea bass with brown stew and buttered escabeche.

At 81, Rod Stewart’s encore feels like it’s only beginning

When Sir Rod Stewart wrapped his 13-year, 200-plus-show Rod Stewart: The Hits residency at The Colosseum in 2024, it felt like a proper farewell. Then in 2025, by popular demand, he came back with a victory lap called The Encore Shows. Now, a full year later, the encore is still going.

Stewart returns to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace this June for three nights, followed by six additional dates already on the books for August. His voice, that famous raspy growl, has carried him through folk, rock, disco, R&B, the Great American Songbook and, most recently, swing. Swing Fever, his 2024 collaboration with Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, earned him his 11th No. 1 album in the U.K., a stat he now shares with David Bowie, Taylor Swift and U2. (That’s some fine company he keeps!) Add a knighthood (2016), a Grammy Living Legend honor and twin Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductions— once with Faces, once solo—and you have a career most performers spend a lifetime chasing. What makes The Encore Shows worth a return visit, even if you’ve already seen Rod in Vegas a dozen times? He builds a new setlist for every performance. Most residency artists have a polished, lockedin show; Stewart treats every night at The Colosseum as its own thing, pulling from a 50-year-plus catalog of hits, deep cuts, the occasional legendary cover and the surprises only he sees coming.

You walk in not entirely sure what he’s going to do, as only someone who’s had such a storied career can pull off. The production has been refreshed for the encore run—new staging elements, that 12-piece band, his backup vocalists—but the soul of the show remains the same. Stewart still strolls out in head-to-toe fabulousness like it’s 1979, and somehow, in 2026, it still works. (At 81, he claims he can still run the 100 meters in 18 seconds. We believe him.)

Stewart has said it himself, repeatedly: He loves this town. “Caesars are the best. They really looked after me. Best place to play,” he told ABC Audio. And it shows. There’s an ease to his Vegas performances that you don’t get from a one-off tour stop. He’s settled in and is having fun. If you missed the original residency or didn’t think you’d ever get another chance after 2024, this is your chance—again. And if the pattern holds, probably another chance after that, too.

Sir Rod is in no hurry to be anywhere else.

Julia Child said it best: “No one is born a great cook, one learns by doing.” Martha Stewart, Nobu Matsuhisa and Gordon Ramsay are three chefs that are prime examples of practice makes perfect. By studying the art of their respective cuisines, each shot to the head of the class and turned what they learned into respected culinary careers. They’ve

each also capitalized on their flair for flavors and opened restaurants across the globe, including in Las Vegas. At Paris Las Vegas, guests can get a taste of perfection at The Bedford by Martha Stewart, Gordon Ramsay Steak and Nobu Las Vegas.

Now you have the chance to follow in the chefs’ footsteps in the kitchen by tak-

ing a cooking class offered at each restaurant, each one taught by the in-house chef.

Learn how to make pierogies, sushi and steak, gather up cooking knowledge (as well as tips to take back to your own kitchen), and, most importantly, have fun.

How to make sushi

CLASS NOTES:

Learn the proper sushi-making techniques to make your own tuna nigiri, salmon nigiri, yellowtail nigiri and California roll. You’ll learn how to use just the right amount of rice, how to shape the rice in your hand and how to properly place the fish on the rice. There’s even a QR code in your welcome package that you scan to watch a video of chef Nobu demonstrating how to properly shape and form the rice on which you place the piece of fish. (You’ll be taught tips and tricks to accomplish this technique!)

You’ll learn how to roll the crab, avocado and cucumber with nori (seaweed) to create the perfect California roll.

Chef goes over the main sushi ingredients, revealing insider information, such as: The type of rice used is exclusive to Nobu and the distinct flavor comes from a combination of rice vinegar, monk fruit sugar and salt, added during the cooking process; the sesame seeds used on the cut rolls are roasted to release a distinct aroma; Japanese cucumbers are used in all

the sushi rolls because they’re skinny, crunchy and have fewer seeds than American cucumbers; Haas avocados are always used; and the top-notch nori, a version made special for Nobu, comes from the brand

Naga Kombu seaweed—the nori must be thin and crunchy, creating the perfect bite experience.

The seafood you’ll use in the class includes: big

eye tuna that comes from Hawaii; Scottish salmon; yellowtail that comes from Japan; and snow crab that comes from Canada.

CHEF NOBU opened the first Nobu-branded restaurant in Tribeca, New York, in 1991

Each dish served at Nobu restaurants follow chef Nobu’s belief in the harmony of ingredients, making sure that each bite has a perfect balance when it comes to aroma, sourness, sweetness and crunchiness, and that it’s always visually pleasing.

Upon arrival to the class, you’ll receive a specialty drink made with fresh fruits, and each guest leaves with a Nobu-branded apron, a set of chopsticks, a step-by-step guide on how to make sushi and a sushi-making mold.

Enjoy your sushi creations in the dining room, and for an additional cost you can pair it with a flight of Japanese whiskey.

How to make pierogies

CLASS NOTES:

The No. 1 selling dish at The Bedford is Big Martha’s pierogies—Martha Stewart’s mother’s personal recipe. Nearly 70 orders are served each evening and can be made to order with caviar to send the flavors into bougie territory.

Watch as chef makes the dough using the classic

KitchenAid mixer, adding together all-purpose flour, whole milk, water, sour cream, kosher salt and a large brown egg. Once the dough is prepared, students will get sheets of the dough to form the individual pierogies.

Each guest will combine potatoes, brown butter, cream cheese, scallions and kosher salt in a mixing bowl. You’ll blend the ingredients until they’re well mixed and then set them aside to be used as the filling for each pierogi.

Everyone in the class gets their own cooking utensils. You’ll take the dough and filling and make your individual pierogies, learning techniques on how to shape, seal and crimp the dough. This is your chance to show off your cooking skills—if

you have them! But don’t fret, chef is always nearby to help out.

Chef will then take the pierogies back to the kitchen, where you’ll be able to watch as your newly formed pierogies are boiled in salted water.

The dish is then finished off with brown butter and fresh diced sage. Guests are invited to take a seat at a communal dining table to eat their freshly cooked pierogies together.

Chef is friendly and knowledgeable and will gladly answer any questions about the process of learning the art of properly cooking a steak. You’ll learn tips like: Always temper your meat before cooking—the meat should be at room temperature before you start cooking, so when it hits the hot pan, it doesn’t steam from being cold and will instead immediately begin to caramelize; and use more salt than you think you need, because a lot of it comes off during the cooking process.

You’ll learn how to pansear the steak (on all sides for best results!) in oil, flavored with only salt and pepper on both sides. And then you’ll learn how to butter baste the steak using a made-in-house compound butter. (It’s the same butter that is brushed on every steak that leaves the restaurant’s kitchen.). You’ll also cook the steak with sprigs of thyme to enhance the flavors, removing them when finished.

Four yearround haunted houses inspired by Universal’s cinematic horrors comes to life: Universal Monsters, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Scarecrow: the Reaping and The Exorcist: Believer.

But the frights don’t freeze there. From the moment you step inside the warehouse, there are spooky sights and sounds at every turn.
