New Strip pool party transitions from day to night

Tucked away at the end of Resorts World’s pristine, sun-filled retail corridor sits the entrance to party juggernauts Zouk Nightclub and Ayu Dayclub. While the nightclub pulls in big-name DJs for its roster including RL Grime, Duke Dumont and special performances by huge names in hip-hop like Snoop Dogg and Lil Wayne, the daylife counterpart keeps peeps satisfied with good times when the sun is up.

But new this season to Ayu Dayclub is its foray into keeping the daytime party going into the night with its Ayu Afters parties every Saturday. This new late-day activity begins at 2 p.m. and transitions seamlessly from day to night with DJ sets and an elevated poolside experience.

Enveloping the guests in island-getaway vibes, Ayu strikes the perfect balance of wild, festival-like fun and relaxing in the lap of luxury, inspired by the islands of Southeast Asia and Mexico’s Tulum. Towering palm trees and thatched-roofed cabanas, bungalows and daybeds are spread across the lush landscape.

To get an overview of the whole pool club, the second-story cabana-filled space offers some of the best views of the DJ sets, too. Multiple-sized pools allow for

So far this season, Ayu Afters has welcomed electronic music DJs like Ownboss, best known for his megahit “Move Your Body,” and the U.K.-based DJ duo Snakehips, whose music is a dope combination of electronic music mixed with R&B and hip-hop. The musical lineup at Ayu Afters is made to get party people chilling in the cool waters when the sun is high as the sounds begin to transition into dancefloor bangers as the sun sets.

Strip hot spot combines great food, drink, live music and views into one unforgettable experience

In a very short amount of time, Bottled Blonde Las Vegas has become one of the must-visit hot spots on the Las Vegas Strip. Its combination of multiple levels, great food and drink offerings, live music and magnificent views of the city are simply intoxicating.

For starters, the venue offers the best of both worlds for families and partiers alike. Families are welcome from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. (after that it’s 21+ only), while the rooftop space is 21+ only from open to close. Live bands and musicians perform throughout the day and night, so it’s always a party atmosphere no matter when you go. And what party atmosphere would be complete without some delicious signature cocktails? You’ll want to try everything on this fantastic menu despite your spirit of choice. However, tequila lovers will want to try the Desert Paloma, a combo of Hornitos Plata, grapefruit juice, lime juice, agave and club soda; vodka fans won’t want to miss the Cucumber Cooler, a blend of Tito’s, lime juice, simple syrup, cucumber and mint and tonic; any bourbon fans out there? The Maker’s Sunset is a revelation, mixing the brown spirit with Maker’s Mark, pineapple juice, lime juice and grenadine.

You will want some food to accompany these libations, and Bottled Blonde Las Vegas has plenty of satisfying bites: Loaded potato skins are some of the best on the Strip, and ditto for the loaded nachos, where you’ll get cheddar and jalapeño pepperjack cheese sauce in every crunchy bite; pork sticky ribs are slow-cooked and flash fried and smothered with your choice of traditional or Korean barbecue sauce or a dry rub; the margherita pizza will appeal to both carnivores and vegetarians with its delicious combo of red sauce, fresh mozzarella, Parmesan, fresh basil and extra-virgin olive oil; and the American wagyu truffle burger more than satisfies with its combo of sautéed onions, provolone, lettuce, tomatoes and truffle mayo.

Don’t forget to order dessert, and we recommend ordering both the cheesecake and churros, as we simply cannot decide. Once you bite into the turtle cheesecake (chocolate sauce makes such a difference!) and dip that cinnamon sugar-sprinkled churro into the chocolate and raspberry sauce, you’ll be on the same fence we are. –Ken Miller Horseshoe

A Bun-Tastic Experience

Celebrity chef elevates the classic sandwich at his latest Las Vegas Strip outpost

Is there any culinary mountain Gordon Ramsay can’t summit? He’s made his mark in almost all facets of the industry, from television and books to eponymous restaurants all over Las Vegas. His empire here now stands at seven, his most recent achievement being Gordon Ramsay Burger at Flamingo. Of all his venues across the Strip, this might the most pure fun experience he has yet created. Obviously fans of burgers are going to enjoy it, but Ramsay has been careful to open up the menu to palates of every type, ensuring that this is appealing to absolutely everyone.

The burger menu itself is impressive, almost imposing in its variety. There is—as you would expect—a Hell’s Kitchen Burger, a beef patty piled high with asadero cheese, roasted jalapeños, avocado, roasted tomatoes and jalapeño aioli. This one has bite! For a true flavor bomb, order the Southwest Burger (pictured), an asada-marinated beef patty topped with asadero cheese, cilantro, avocado, citrus aioli and butter lettuce. If you’ve never tried a fried egg on a burger (and trust us, you need to!), order the Farmhouse Burger, featuring Dubliner cheese, bacon and a fried egg. All sandwiches come with fries, but you can substitute truffle Parmesan fries or onion rings. (For a real indulgence, you can also substitute your patty with 10 ounces of wagyu beef.)

And yes, if you are vegan, welcome in! Gordon Ramsay Burger features a Viva Vegan Burger, one that even carnivores might want to try. It starts with a spiced plant-based patty on a vegan bun, topped with roasted tomatoes, butter lettuce, avocado and eggless garlic mayo. Yum!

Not feeling a burger right about now? No problem whatsoever. You can also enjoy the Idiot Burger, an incredibly decadent combo of braised short rib, Gruyère, cheddar, roasted mushrooms and spicy tomato chutney. 52nd annual fan-voted awards show boasts an all-star lineup

It doesn’t get much better than the American Music Awards when it comes to catching your favorite performers all in one place. It’s the world’s largest fan-voted award show, and this year’s 52nd annual ceremony, airing live on CBS and Paramount+ from MGM Grand Garden Arena, is about as star-packed as you can get, starting with the host for the evening, Queen Latifah (pictured).

Taylor Swift leads the pack with eight nominations: Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Best Pop Album (both for The Life of a Showgirl ), Song of the Year, Best Music Video and Best Pop Song (all for “The Fate of Ophelia”), Song of the Summer (“Elizabeth Taylor”) and Best Female Pop Artist. And expect a performance—or two.

Right behind Swift with seven nominations each are Dean and SOMBR, breakout stars who are going up against each other in the New Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Breakthrough Album of the Year categories. Other first-time nominees include Alex Warren, BigXthaPlug, KATSEYE, Leon Thomas, PinkPantheress and more.

Also receiving seven nominations each are superstars Morgan Wallen, Olivia Dean and Sabrina Carpenter, while Lady Gaga received six.

South Korean septet takes over the city in more ways than one

Few groups have shattered as many records as BTS has in a relatively short time. Since debuting in 2013, the South Korean septet achieved massive success not by traveling the welltrod paths of other boy bands, but by blazing its own unique trail through social media and songs with serious subject matter. The results speak for themselves: The first all-South Korean group to reach number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Global 200, as well as the first act from South Korea to top the Billboard 200. Its reach is everywhere, and to

call its upcoming performances in Las Vegas a takeover is understating the case considerably.

From May 20-31 (details to come), the city will come alive with activations, parties, experiences and more, all tied to both the group’s performances and the release of its latest album, Arirang. Landmarks across Las Vegas will be activated, the Strip and digital marquees will be illuminated in the signature red theme of Arirang, there will be themed hotel experiences, food and beverage offerings, and after-parties will dot the landscape.

And that’s just the official events. There are also countless fan-organized activities, including Chinatown vendors selling BTS merchandise, BTS Army members ordering specialized drinks at boba shops, dance parties and fan-sponsored promo billboards at Miracle Mile Shops. Cocktails I’m Loving Right Now

You can’t go wrong with this list of Strip favorites

Don’t know what cocktail to order or where to go to get a good cocktail? Simple enough—I’ve just planned your drinking adventure for you with these five delicious cocktails I’m loving.

One in a Melon . Yup, the name is totes clever once you read the ingredients. Starting with a made-in-house jalapeno-infused tequila, it’s then mixed with fresh-pressed watermelon juice, lime, agave and dry vermouth. It’s topped with a garnish of Tajín around the rim and fresh-cut watermelon slices. You can thank lead bartender J.R. Gutierrez at Sugarcane at The Venetian Resort for this slightly spicy, totally refreshing cocktail that you will def want to order again.

L-O-V-E . This cocktail has been on my favorites list for a long time— and it’s so popular and so good that it’s remained on the menu at Barry’s Downtown Prime at Circa Resort & Casino for years. You might say this is one of my faves in the whole city! The recipe calls for Grey Goose Essences strawberry and lemongrass vodka, lychee syrup, Aperol, lime juice and egg whites, but what bartender Wilson Barrera does to send this cocktail into icon status is add a brush of raspberry compote along the

outside of the glass. Each sip with that compote is like heaven in a glass.

My Night in Vegas. When you have a cocktail menu curated and created by LP O’Brien, winner of Netflix’s Drink Masters, you know you’re in for a memorable drinking experience. The menu at F1 Arcade at The Forum Shops

at Caesars Palace is a mix of unique sips and innovative takes on classics, and the perfect example of this is my favorite, My Night in Vegas. The cocktail is a Penicillin-meets-New York sour with a slightly sweet and slightly spicy flavor. It’s made with rye, ginger and yuzu and arouses palate curiosity with the

addition of celery bitters and a sweetand-smoky blueberry peat foam—two ingredients that make this cocktail probably one of the most unique sips you’ll ever have.

Passion’s Serenade. If you can find the hidden cocktail bar, The Vault at Bellagio, congrats! (I’m going to help you—check its Instagram account!) This bar is where Craig Schoettler, executive director of beverage and corporate mixologist at MGM Resorts International and one of the city’s most-impressive cocktail creators, plays wizard behind the bar, creating cheflike recipes with vintage and rare spirits mixed with thoughtfully curated ingredients. My favorite of all his creations (and I’ve tasted many of them) is Passion’s Serenade. It’s blended with a house-made toasted sesame-infused chocolate rum, passion fruit, vanilla, mint and coconut milk frozen to the side of the glass and topped with a Fresno chili. Each sip changes the taste as the coconut milk melts and the chili seeps. “I call it an evolving cocktail; your first sip is different than your last sip,” Schoettler says.

Beijing Peach . Simple, beautiful and darn good, this martini-style cocktail is considered the house specialty

at the newly opened Copper Sun at Resorts World Las Vegas. Three ingredients are all it takes to experience cocktail nirvana—jasmine-infused vodka, white peach purée and lemon juice. Chef’s kiss! Don’t pass up more stars at

this new Inner-Mongolian hot pot hot spot, with standout specialty cocktails like the Honeydew Mojito, Buttered Plum Old-Fashioned and a Peanut Butter Boulevardier … yes, I know—tempting, right?! –Kiko Miyasato

Adventure is the name of the game for assistant GM

It’s all about adventure in life and work for Nolan Gillies, assistant general manager for Play Playground at Luxor.

“I’ve always jumped through different things in life,” Gillies says. Raised in Chicago, he went to school for entrepreneurship and finance, and out of college did some modeling and coached a boxing team. He enjoys backpacking in national parks and coaches jiu jitsu. “In 2022, I headed to Las Vegas where I worked in financial tech but eventually wanted to work on the Strip,” he says.

A colleague recruited him in 2024 to help run Play Playground, where more than 20 large-scale games, drinking and dining combine. “It’s like giant versions of ’90s board games, riffs on Bop It!, Perfection, Operation,” Gillies says. “People are obsessed with their phones today and this gets you up and moving and laughing and having a good time.”

It’s Gillies’ job to help cultivate a fun, interactive environment for families and for adults looking for a nightlife alternative (it’s 21+ after 7 p.m.). “We don’t take

Finding any spot in Las Vegas that has continued success after two decades is a rare feat. Enter Tao Asian Bistro at The Venetian Resort. Part nightclub, part lounge and part restaurant, the Asian-driven aesthetic and cuisine was introduced to Las Vegas in 2005, and the trinity of offerings haven’t lost one ounce of glitz and glamour or any of its delectable food.

“Tao’s success comes down to consistency and flavor,” said chef Ralph Scamardella, chief culinary officer for Tao Group Hospitality. “The food has always been bold, balanced, and high quality. We focus on dishes that taste as good as they look, served with energy and precision. That combination keeps people coming back. As true

as we are to classic, we are constantly trying to innovate and evolve and keep up with trends. That’s what makes us the great experience.”

That experience starts inside the lounge, where we suggest chilling until your table is ready and ordering up the lychee martini (ahead of its time 20 years ago, the lychee martini has become all the rage on menus across the city). It’s been on the menu since Tao opened its doors, and the simple blend of Grey Goose vodka, lychee liqueur and citrus is a divine combination full of refreshing flavor.

When the dinner bell rings, continue to the main dining room, where you’ll spot the ginormous Buddha that presides over diners (be mesmer

ized by the koi fish that swim around him). What’s also ginormous is the menu, tempting in all categories.

“We respect traditional Asian flavors but present them with a modern edge,” Scamardella said. “Every dish is built on the balance of spice, acid, texture and presentation. Tao’s food is designed for impact, both in taste and experience.” Start with more day-one offerings: the satay of Chilean sea bass with a miso glaze that is shiny,

sweet and seriously addictive and the pad Thai noodles with peanuts, mushrooms and tofu—add chicken or shrimp for more protein. “They’re guest favorites that define the brand: flavorful, approachable and consistently executed,” Scamardella said.

Don’t skip out on the steamed dumplings, available in veggie, carnivore and pescatarian—crispy shrimp dumplings are new to the menu and already a hit! Also new to the menu are the cutesy Tokyo tacos, onebite, handheld flavor bombs in recipes like sweet soy salmon, BBQ eel and toro caviar.

Round out the meal with a noodle dish. We suggest the chow fun stir fry and, one of chef’s favorite dishes, the crispy snapper in the “sand,” based on a traditional Chinese garlic salt-andpepper dish that’s done with a whole fish and served with crispy minced garlic and Chinese dried olives.

End the symphony of dishes with dessert. The showstopper here is the giant fortune cookie, filled with a decadent white and dark chocolate mousse and surrounded

with sliced fresh fruit. For that cutesy dessert photo, order the potted carrot cake—looks like the real thing you’d find in your garden, but it’s made with vanilla cream, miso caramel and candied micro carrots.

Two decades in, Tao Asian Bistro remains a top dining destination

BLVD Las Vegas combines stellar shopping, dining and experiences

shopping. It’s about bigger, badder and more immersive, a journey to not only spend bucks on the latest threads, but to combine that purchase with dining and entertainment. The new BLVD Las Vegas is a prime example of this new trend, and it’s a stunning addition to the skyline.

“BLVD Las Vegas is a destination featuring global brands, dining options, and immersive entertainment. With 700 feet of frontage along

the Strip and street-level access for pedestrians, we stand out among other retail destinations,” said Eli Gindi, founder of BLVD Las Vegas. Breaking ground in 2023, BLVD Las Vegas is nearing completion with 400,000 square feet of total retail and dining—with 75% occupancy already opened—along the Las Vegas Strip at the corner of Harmon Avenue. BLVD Las Vegas’ top floor is called The Overlook, a rooftop space of more than 110,000 square feet reserved for food and beverage and special events.

The list of retailers currently open includes Puma, Adidas, Pandora, JD Sports, Lululemon, H&M, ABC Stores and Abercrombie & Fitch. Many of the brands have used BLVD Las Vegas as the location for their flagship store, and shoppers can purchase one-of-a-kind and customizable goods. There are also bonus offerings like a charms bar at Pandora, where you can build your own bracelets or necklaces, choosing from hundreds of charms. The Puma store offers customizable footwear and clothing, and partners with brands like Ferrari to bring the F1 Las Vegas racetrack alive through racing simulators that guests can drive, while Lululemon offers one-of-a-kind apparel and engravable water bottles.

Opening this year and next will be a flagship Bootbarn location for all your country western gear, Sunglass Hut and Miniso, a Chinese brand that sells some of world’s most popular and viral toys, makeup, accessories and apparel.

The Overlook on the third floor is reserved strictly for food and beverage and event space. With stunning views of the Strip, the outdoor space currently hosts free wellness events including yoga and Pilates.

Bite into the delicious sourdough-based pizza at How Ya Dough’n, a brand that has become popular since opening in the owner’s garage during the pandemic. The top level, on The Overlook, will be a bar and restaurant with a terrace featuring a menu of food and beverages based on popular Netflix shows. Netflix House is set to open in summer 2027.

Enhanced Games CEO Maximilian Martin talks about the future of competition

Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas is summer’s official kickoff—pools at full tilt, marquees stacked top to bottom, the city gearing up for the high temps. This year, add one more event to the bill: the inaugural Enhanced Games, touching down at Resorts World Las Vegas May 23-24. We caught up with Maximilian Martin, the 29-year-old CEO of Enhanced Group, to find out what’s coming.

HOW

DO YOU DESCRIBE ENHANCED GAMES AT A DINNER PARTY?

It’s a new sporting competition where science is at the heart of it. Think of it as a Super Bowl of three sports—swimming, sprinting and weightlifting—in one evening, and you can watch all of them from the same seat. Athletes can be “enhanced,” meaning they can use medical substances that would typically get them banned from elite international competition, but under proper clinical supervision, the benefits are massive, not just on performance but on recovery and longevity.

WHY LAS VEGAS?

We scouted basically the entire globe. Las Vegas is the entertainment

capital of the U.S.—everyone loves to come for a weekend. And we were welcomed with open arms, especially by our partner Resorts World Las Vegas, under chairman Jim Murren. He understood the long-term impact this work can have on everyday people’s lives—whether you’re 25 and training for a marathon or 65 trying to keep up with your grandkids.

WHAT DOES THE ENHANCEMENT PROCESS ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE FOR ATHLETES?

The substances are all FDAapproved—things doctors prescribe every single day. Nothing experimental, nothing unknown. Athletes who choose to enhance have trained in Abu Dhabi since January under a 20-week program, medically supervised by SSMC Hospital and the Abu Dhabi Department of Health through an IRB-approved clinical trial. No one is required to participate— several athletes are competing completely naturally, and they’re paid the same either way. What’s remarkable is the follow-up care: Athletes receive medical screenings for up to five years after competing. That’s unheard of in professional sports. Traditional testing checks whether an athlete is cheating; we check whether they’re healthy and safe to compete.

Alan Walker opens—he has over 40 million YouTube followers—and The Killers close, then an after-party at Zouk Nightclub. In between, it’s back and forth between sports: a track race, a swim race, a weightlifting set. Every event is under one minute. The prime-time segment runs about four hours, 6 to 10 p.m. Producing all of it is Van Wagner, who’s handled the Super Bowl for more than 40 years.

Internet star Zarna Garg has the goods to make Vegas audiences laugh

mother and father who have made grave sacrifices to create an incredible life for their family with the optimistic delusion of young people on the cusp of adulthood. It’s relatable and easy to laugh at because, while the kids can often end up the butt of the joke, there’s a lot of love that pads the punch.

We can all probably admit that doomscrolling into oblivion while snacking on some viral air-fryer monstrosity and sipping a dirty soda from your nearest drive-through pop shop isn’t the healthiest activity—but we can’t say we’ve never done it. And sometimes the algorithm interrupts the usual programming of “breaking” news that’s never really all that breaking (or news for that matter) with stiff dancing videos and rage bait food content to give you a gift. One of those gifts is Zarna Garg. Garg started making comedy videos about seven years ago and built a brand on being an outspoken Indian-American mother whose family played the main characters in much of her content. Her videos highlighted the incompatibilities of high parental expectations from a

In one of Garg’s latest series, the comic poses as an aloof therapist with clients that range from her own family to the Chief Product Officer of Uber. She’s even made a few videos as “the world’s leading almost therapist” with Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani female education activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner who notably survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban and penned the autobiography I Am Malala to recount the story. More than a decade later Yousafzai ended up on Garg’s couch telling the cliff notes of her story only to receive ironic one-liners like “Oh, because you were the problem,” and “You sound like you complain a lot,” from the definitely-not therapist.

The video makes light of an obviously horrible tragedy that Yousafzai has experienced, but does so in a way that amplifies her voice and highlights the way we can become so disconnected from the people whose stories we consume that, oftentimes, the only responses we generate are empty and unsympathetic. It’s a fabulous piece of social commentary wrapped up in an easily consumable comedic package, and the short was recognized by the Webby Awards, winning Best Short Form Video People’s Voice Winner, 2026, a designation that speaks to the power of creating meaningful content that resonates with people, even if it carries a lighthearted tone.

Garg’s funny isn’t just limited to the 1080 x 1920 format; she’s taken her talents to the big screen with her appearance in A Nice Indian Boy, the small screen with countless talk show appearances, and the stage to perform her signature brand of stand up. Her current Million Dollar Excuses Tour brings the comic to the Strip this week, and this is not one to miss. Garg brings the same wit that makes her skits so double-tappable, but the comedy hour format allows for some first-person storytelling that feels like you’re chuckling over chai with your funniest friend.

Las Vegas knows how to celebrate Memorial Day far beyond the holiday itself

Memorial Day Weekend in Las Vegas is a bustling time of year, with crowds packing the Strip to enjoy a variety of seasonal events like pool parties and nightclub events (see p. 54-55 for both). But there are plenty of ways to celebrate the May 25 holiday throughout the rest of the week as well.

One of the Strip’s longest-running shows is also one of its most enticing. Fantasy: The Strip’s Sexiest Tease at Luxor, now in its 26th year, features some of the most beautiful, athletic women on the planet in a series of numbers featuring a wide variety of dance styles. It is, indeed, sexy, but it’s also got some hilarious moments. Best of all, creator Anita Mann is constantly updating the show, making repeat visits mandatory.

Speaking of dance styles and show updates, Jabbawockeez at MGM Grand has an all-new show called FREQNCY, and even if you’ve seen the mask-wearing troupe tearing up the stage multiple times, this version will show you a side of the dance masters you’ve never seen before.

Blake Shelton is back for more country, more cocktails, more Vegas

When Blake Shelton returned to Vegas earlier this year, he wasn’t tiptoeing back into Las Vegas. He’s barreled in with a beer in one hand and a setlist in the other. After a successful run early last year, the star returned to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace with a smoking run, and that’s continuing through the rest of this month.

“We had so much fun..., I figured—why not do it again?” Shelton has said. “This time we’re gonna do it more country, with more cocktails, and probably make a few more questionable decisions. Let’s go, Vegas.”

This is the kind of confidence that’s made Shelton one of country music’s most bankable stars. With 30 No. 1 hits and nearly 11 billion global streams, he’s earned the right to show up in Vegas and do things his way. And fans are more than ready to make those questionable decisions right alongside him.

The residency comes at a particularly hot moment for Shelton.

His latest album, For Recreational Use Only, dropped in May. It’s his first full-length release in nearly four years. The 12-track collection includes chart-topper “Texas” and current radio hit “Stay Country or Die Tryin’,” which both capture Shelton’s ability to balance traditional country sensibilities with arena-ready hooks. The album also features appearances by his wife, Gwen Stefani, along with veterans John Anderson and Craig Morgan.

“It’s been a long time since we had a new album out, and I want to thank the songwriters and musicians who helped bring this record to life,” Shelton said when announcing the album. “Scott (Hendricks) and I have been working on this music for years, and I’m beyond excited to finally share it with the fans.”

Some of the most spectacular outdoor adventures in the American West are hiding in plain sight, just beyond the Strip’s glittering lights. From towering red rocks and snow-capped mountains to ancient petroglyphs and natural hot springs, the Las Vegas area offers an embarrassment of riches for those willing to trade the casino floor for a trail. Whether you’re looking for a morning hike or a multiday expedition into some of Nevada’s most remote wilderness, there’s a surprise at every turn.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area sits just 17 miles west of the Strip, offering over 20 hiking trails that range from leisurely family strolls to challenging scrambles up towering sandstone formations. The 13-mile scenic drive provides awesome photo ops around every curve, while serious climbers tackle routes that have attracted adventurers from around the globe (hello, Free Solo -er Alex Honnold). Don’t miss the Calico Tanks trail—the panoramic views of the Vegas Valley from the top are simply incredible.

For a dose of history, Spring Mountain Ranch State Park , adjacent to Red Rock, offers a glimpse into Old West ranching life at the historic ranch where Howard Hughes once lived. You can explore preserved buildings, tackle easy hiking trails and occasionally catch living-history demonstrations in this picturesque mountain setting.

When summer temperatures soar past 110 degrees in the valley, locals know exactly where to go: Mount Charleston. This high-elevation oasis boasts more than 60 miles of hiking trails winding through fragrant pine and aspen forests. Cathedral Rock is a must-do hike for all levels, but for those feeling ambitious, the 18-mile Charleston Peak—at 11,916 feet and the highest point in Southern Nevada—is a bucket-list feat. When the snow comes, these mountains are a sledding playground for kiddos and adults alike.

Speaking of snow: Lee Canyon, adjacent to Mount Charleston, serves as Nevada’s premier ski destination. During winter months, you can hit the slopes for skiing and snowboarding, then return during warmer seasons for world-class mountain biking trails and chairlift rides that offer awesome views.

Back in the valley, the Wetlands Nature Preserve is an unexpected urban oasis where boardwalks and trails wind through a thriving desert wetland ecosystem. It’s a birdwatcher’s paradise: Bring binoculars to spot herons, ducks and migratory birds—more than 200 species have been recorded. The miles of paved paths make it perfect for cycling, too.

For prehistory buffs, check out Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area, one of the Southwest’s most significant petroglyph sites. More than 300 panels contain thousands of ancient rock art images, and the easy 1.1-mile interpretive trail leads to spectacular red sandstone formations—all just a short drive from Las Vegas.

Water lovers should head to Willow Beach, where you can launch kayaks for a scenic paddle toward Hoover Dam or the stunning turquoise waters of Emerald Cove. The Colorado River here offers excellent rainbow trout fishing, while the beach area provides picnic spots and easy access for swimming.

Of course, no discussion of Las Vegas water recreation would be complete without mentioning Lake Mead America’s largest reservoir offers endless possibilities: Rent houseboats for multiday adventures from Callville Bay Marina; explore the lake by powerboat or jet ski from Las Vegas Boat Harbor at Hemenway Harbor; paddleboard in protected coves; swim at Boulder Beach; or explore hidden hot springs tucked into canyon walls. For a land-based adventure, hike or bike the Historic Railroad Trail. Five massive tunnels carved through the mountains in the 1930s during Hoover Dam’s construction now form a spectacular 3.7-mile trail with panoramic views of the lake below.

the adventures get even more spectacular. Valley of Fire State Park , Nevada’s oldest, showcases otherworldly landscapes of brilliant red sandstone formations and ancient petroglyphs. Key trails include Fire Wave for those Instagram-worthy shots, Mouse’s Tank for impressive rock art and White Domes for slot canyon exploration that feels like stepping onto another planet.

For a genuine Wild West experience, head to Nelson, a ghost town where original buildings, vintage cars and mining equipment lie scattered throughout the landscape. The nearby Techatticup Mine offers fascinating underground tours into the area’s mining past.

the rewards are extraordinary. China Date Ranch serves as your gateway to Death Valley, where you can sample fresh dates, learn about desert agriculture and stock up on supplies before heading into one of America’s most extreme national parks. (The delicious date shakes alone are worth the trip.)

Death Valley National Park itself offers experiences found nowhere else on Earth. Drive through Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America at

282 feet below sea level. Explore the colorful mineral deposits of Artist’s Palette, hike through dramatic Golden Canyon and slide down massive sand dunes. Camping under Death Valley’s star-filled skies ranks among the best outdoor experiences anywhere.

For art lovers, stop in Beatty to visit the outdoor Goldwell Open Air Museum, featuring large-scale installations including the famous “Last Supper” sculpture. The small town also serves as another gateway to Death Valley.

Road trip enthusiasts shouldn’t miss the ET Highway, Nevada’s most famous stretch of asphalt. This 98-mile section of Highway 375 cuts through desolate, weirdly beautiful desert landscape. Stop at the quirky Little A’Le’Inn in Rachel for a burger, keep your eyes peeled for UFOs and experience the vast, empty beauty of the Nevada desert. The highway runs along the infamous Area 51, the top-secret military installation that’s fueled decades of speculation and conspiracy theories. the lights of Las Vegas take on a different glow. Sure, the city knows how to put on a show, but the real spectacle lies just beyond the neon—in slot canyons and dark skies, ancient rock art and endless desert horizons.

Finally, there’s Great Basin National Park , arguably Nevada’s crown jewel. Yes, it’s a five-hour drive from Vegas, but experiencing some of the darkest skies in the continental U.S. makes every mile worthwhile. During the day, explore the otherworldly Lehman Caves, hike to pristine alpine lakes or summit Wheeler Peak, Nevada’s second-tallest mountain. Fair warning: It’s a butt-kicker. Pack a tent—Wheeler Campground might just be the most beautiful campground in the entire state.
