Strip steakhouse continues the high standards of its Brooklyn counterpart with a commitment to the basics

Peter Luger Steak House may be one of Brooklyn’s most revered restaurants, but it has wasted no time in making its Vegas outpost one of the most popular stops on the Strip. The philosophy here is simple: Keep thing simple. If you like your meals no-nonsense and straight to the point, this might become your new favorite place.

The German beer hall feel is alive and well at this location, complete with servers who are ready to make you feel right at home with old-world attitude. As you enjoy a classic cocktail—Manhattans, Old-Fashioneds, martinis, you name it, they’ll make it—you’ll want to order one of the franchise’s most famous creations—sliced tomatoes. Yes, that’s exactly what it sounds like. Or you can order it with accompaniments like onions, jumbo shrimp and chopped bacon. Whatever you order, smother it with that Luger’s Own Sauce and you will be in heaven. It’s hard to put into words how something so simple can be so delicious—so I’m not going to try. Just order it!

The simplicity doesn’t get much better than the red meat portion of the menu. From the steak section, your choices are a cut of USDA Prime beef

in serving sizes ranging from a single person to four people (there’s also a rib steak for two). And lest you’re wondering, they’re all served medium rare. We wouldn’t suggest ordering a steak well-done here, as you might get a bit of side-eye. Peter Luger also excels at seafood, so strongly consider the grilled Atlantic salmon, Dover sole and Maine lobster, and whatever you do choose, you can’t go wrong with sides, ranging from broiled asparagus and creamed spinach to sautéed cremini mushrooms and broccoli.

For one of the best deals on the entire Strip, opt for the Power Lunch Menu, where, for only $49.95, you get your choice of appetizer, main course, side and dessert. Start with either sliced tomatoes and onions for one, Luger’s sizzling bacon or a Caesar salad; then it’s onto the main course, your choice of grilled Atlantic salmon, broiled chicken airline breast, homemade bratwurst or the classic Luger burger, so simple yet so delicious; sides include creamed spinach, Luger’s German fried potatoes or French fried potatoes; and dessert is the “Holy Cow” hot fudge sundae. –Ken Miller

This relocated Strip restaurant elevates every menu item through sheer showmanship

We were all bummed when we heard Bazaar Meat by José Andrés ’ SAHARA Las Vegas location would be closing in the summer of 2025, but that effect wore off quickly when it was announced the restaurant was simply moving to a newly renovated space at The Venetian Resort. And boy, have they ever outdone themselves!

Even before you’re sitting and enjoying the first bites of your meal, the experience is made extraordinary by an unbeatable ambience. Warm soft light emanates from a stunning pattern of bulbs that covers the entire ceiling without overexposing the moody red dining room, while plush booths and comfortable chairs offer the chance to settle in for what will be nothing less than exceptional.

If you’ve previously visited Bazaar Meat, you’ll recognize many favorites that have transferred over from the previous iteration of the restaurant. Really, the best way to do it here is a tasting menu like José’s Ultimate Tasting or The Bazaar Tasting Menu, because there are far too many dishes on this menu; you’ll want to order a la carte.

Both tasting menus include takes on the chef’s signature caviar cones. And come on, it would be sacrilegious to visit an Andrés restaurant and not enjoy one of these! You’ll also score some tableside treats like the Caesar salad and the beef tartare before digging into satisfying mains like fire-roasted king crab and Japanese A5 wagyu. Oh, and don’t skip the veggies; the piquillo peppers are to die for.

You’ve already splurged on the meal, so it’s absolutely worthwhile to elevate the evening with an experiential cocktail. If light and floral is your vibe, order the Floral Cloud, a pretty, purple gin-based cocktail with lemon, maraschino liqueur and creme de violette served with a hibiscus rose cloud that makes the drink look like it came straight out of a fairy tale. Or for the savory beverage babes, summon the martini cart, where you will get to choose your liquor, your mixer, your essence and your garnish to make a martini that’s perfect for you. –Em

Need help in choosing the right wine when dining out at that fancy Strip restaurant? No problem! Las Vegas Magazine ’s Ken Miller enlisted the aid of two of the Strip’s top wine experts, Dylan Amos, wine director at Delmonico Steakhouse at The Venetian, and Louis Hamilton, sommelier at Emeril’s New Orleans Fish House at MGM Grand, to answer some burning questions wine newbies might have. Have fun—and drink responsibly!

What are the best red and best white recommendations for wine newbies?

Hamilton: Chardonnay is a great white to start with as it’s not overly assertive and usually has a hint of oak, which imbibes a hint of brown spices. Pinot noir from California or Burgundy is wonderful as a first red wine because the tannin levels are usually more aligned with being smoother and elegant.

Amos: For both of these, I’m suggesting wines that won’t break the bank but are serious as well. Try the delightful white blend from Albert Boxler Edelzwicker Réserve. Crafted from grand cru pinot gris and riesling (and a few other grapes), this white from Alsace is balanced, bright and

yummy. It’s approachable for the newbie and has the sophistication for your more experienced friends. You really can’t beat Oregon for quality at all price points. Failla Willamette Valley pinot noir is bursting with red fruits and subtle spices and florals with a soft, easygoing finish.

What wine should you pair with steak?

Hamilton: A full-bodied syrah from Cornas or Walla Walla is a perfect steak pairing due to its bold structure, dark berry fruit and signature white pepper notes. Both wines have the acidity and spice to enhance the steak’s richness while balancing its char and seasoning.

Amos: At Delmonico, our go-to wine to pair with all of our steaks is the 2020 Chateau Palmer Alter Ego. The quality of tannin matches our seasoning, the minerality pairs with the dry aging, and the elegance and structure match our A5 Japanese wagyu. It’s a win/win all around.

Wine varies so much in price. What’s a great cheap, mid-price and expensive wine?

Hamilton: For an inexpensive wine, try Côtes du Rhône or Gamay

Beaujolais. For a mid-price wine, I like to venture into Spanish Priorat and Rhône-style blends from Paso Robles. For an expensive wine, try 1er cru Burgundy (I like Volnay and Chambertin) or older Super Tuscan wines from Italy.

Amos: For an inexpensive wine, Portuguese whites. The bang for your buck in this category is unbelievable. We work with Luis Seabra Xisto Ilimitado, and it drinks like it costs two to three times its price. For a mid-price wine, we work with a Napa Valley cabernet called Band of Vintners. It’s masterminded by master sommelier Desmond Echavarrie and fills a gap that has been abandoned—a quality Napa cabernet that can be drunk every day. For an expensive wine, Bartolo Mascarello Barolo. An old-school stalwart that believes in blending to make the best wine every year. A masterclass in winemaking with unbelievable quality and aging potential.

Other than your respective restaurants, what are some hot spots on the Strip for wine?

Hamilton: We enjoy La Cave at Wynn for its ambience and amazing selections. Also, Hugo’s Cellar offers a taste of old Vegas flair inside Four Queens.

Amos: Wally’s Wine & Spirits at Resorts World Las Vegas has … everything.

Most of you have, no doubt, been to a firing range, and most of you have, no doubt, had the time of your lives, shooting off all manner of weapons in a safe, controlled environment and in the company of fellow marksmen (or at least budding ones). But while firing ranges are fine and good, wouldn’t you like to make the whole thing a bit more … VIP? That’s where The Range 702 comes in.

One of the premier food halls on the Strip, Famous Foods Street Eats has amassed an impressive collection of cuisine from all over the globe. This ode to hot and spicy fried chicken will truly keep you coming back for more.

Inside the towering castle that reigns over the Las Vegas Strip is a new experience, The Tiki Bar. “We’ve always been about imagination here at Excalibur, and the thought of having a tiki bar is imaginative,” said Barbara Valle, senior beverage manager at Excalibur. “And we have a dragon that’s below the castle. His name is Murphy and he inspired this—it’s a twist between a dragon’s lair and a tropical escape.”

The huge lounge just beckons passersby to stop in to chillax while enjoying island sounds and island-inspired sips. But get into the groove of the island-style escape and take those taste

buds on an adventure by ordering The Tiki Bar’s specialty cocktails, all served in tiki-inspired glassware. Start with Valle’s favorite one on the menu (and

one of our faves, too!), the Buzzed Tiki Torch. It’s a fruity, creamy pick-me-up cocktail made with RumChata, Fireball cinnamon whiskey, coffee liqueur, banana liqueur and simple syrup. Totally delicious!

For a spicy-and-sweet sip, try the Sweet Surrender, a vodka-style martini with a blend of New Amsterdam vodka, spicy mango syrup, pineapple juice, blue Curaçao and a chili mango rim.

And it wouldn’t be a true tiki bar experience without some shareable punch bowls on the menu, like the Blue Hawaiian. Serving two to four people, the bowl is filled with Malibu Original rum, blue Curaçao, pineapple juice, sweet and sour mix, and cream of coconut syrup.

There are so many tasty options on the menu that one might be hardpressed to make a decision, so The Tiki Bar has an awesome option: Tiki flights! You can order three mini versions of the various specialty cocktails so you can try a little bit of all the recipes. It’s a genius offering.

Of course, what island escape wouldn’t be complete without pineapple whip added to some of the recipes?! The Whip Tai mixes pineapple whip

with Myers’s Original Dark rum, Malibu Original rum and almond orgeat, while the Howler Whip is simple but strong with a blend of pineapple whip and Howler Head bourbon. And, yes, strong is the name of the game—just as at any classic tiki bar, The Tiki Bar makes its pours strong!

Bring the whole party and take a seat at one of the many tables as it’s open seating, or take a seat at the wraparound bar and chat with the friendly bartenders. “It’s great for day drinking,” Valle said. “There is more energy at night; weekends we have live bands Friday and Saturday. Island vibes music, but variety, too.” Yup, on the weekends enjoy live music, from island sounds and reggae to current and classic pop, rock, R&B and more. And the small dancefloor in front of the stage is there if those cocktails really begin to get you grooving.

For general manager, there’s no slowing down

Rich Galvan has built a successful career in the Vegas food and beverage industry. He’s managed some iconic nightlife venues, including the world-renowned flair bar Carnival Court at Harrah’s, and for the last couple of years he’s served as general manager of operations for The Cabinet of Curiosities at Horseshoe Las Vegas. Despite his successes, he’s a down-toearth guy. “I hope people come down and see us; if you’re reading this article, ask for me—I’d love to meet you,” says the California native.

Public House adds extra to its sports bar offerings

Do you love a good hamburger? Well, since May is National Hamburger Month, we thought we’d bring one of the most unusual offerings on the Las Vegas Strip to your attention. And it’s not one hamburger, it’s four cheeseburgers. Four double cheeseburgers.

The Do It In Public Challenge at Public House requires you to down four double cheeseburgers, plus a loaded fries and 22-ounce milkshake in just 30 minutes—and you’ll get it for free (plus a T-shirt). However, that’s easier said than done, and in addition, you’ll find a very strong disclaimer on the menu: “Participation in the Public Challenge is voluntary and at your own risk.” This is a bet that you might not be able to win and no shame there! Even if you only eat one, and the fries and shake, you’re gonna be satisfied.

However, even if you’re not trying to ace that test, you’ll find plenty of other options at this lively restaurant with a sports bar vibe. There’s a great selection of local and nationwide beer offerings, including some international choices as well in a variety of styles, plus the Happy Tap, with a rotating selection on draft.

Most good sports bars have good nachos, and Public House is no exception. The Public House chicken nachos are a multilayered marvel of tortilla chips, cheese sauce, sour cream, green onions, pico de gallo, pickled jalapeños, cilantro and guacamole. If you prefer seasoned ground beef, you can always upgrade. And speaking of upgrading, the tuna poke nachos do that, adding marinated ahi, pico, avocado, sriracha aioli, sesame seeds and eel sauce to the chips.

The Standard Burger is the go-to for many diners here, with double patties, caramelized onions, American cheese, lettuce and tomatoes, but there are plenty of other specialty burgers

and sandwiches as well. Try the Big Texan with cheddar, bourbon barbecue sauce, double patties and bacon, or the mushroom and Swiss, which features beer-braised mushrooms and a steakhouse aioli. Or try a Philly cheese steak or a chicken BLT with chipotle aioli and pepper jack cheese for spice. All the burgers and sandwiches come with fries.

Chicken wings and chicken fingers are available in several styles, with carrots, celery and your choice of

sauces like buffalo, bourbon barbecue and honey-mustard and mango habanero.

Vegas gets a lot of big nights. The 61st Academy of Country Music Awards— hosted by Shania Twain—is one of the biggest. The show streams live exclusively on Prime Video at 5 p.m. PT (with a simulcast on the Amazon Music channel on Twitch), reaching fans across 240-plus countries and territories. Confirmed performers at press time include Cody Johnson, Kacey Musgraves, Lainey Wilson, Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert and Riley Green, with more names still to come.

If the nomination count tells the story, country music’s moment belongs to the women. Megan Moroney tops the field with nine nominations, Miranda Lambert trails close behind with eight, and Ella Langley and Lainey Wilson are tied at seven. These four artists have spent the past year making the genre impossible to ignore.

Moroney’s breakthrough year earns her first-ever nominations for Entertainer of the Year and Artist-Songwriter of the Year, plus nods for Song of the Year (“Am I Okay?”), Single of the Year (“6 Months Later”) and Music Event of the Year (“You Had to Be There”) with Kenny Chesney. Lambert, already the most-decorated artist in ACM Awards history, is picking up her biggest haul since 2016. In 2022, the ACMs made history again as the first major awards ceremony to livestream exclusively, teaming with Prime Video, a partnership that’s since drawn hosts Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks and Reba McEntire, delivered superstar teamups like Ed Sheeran with Combs and Dua Lipa with Stapleton, and earned country’s first-ever Emmy nomination for an awards show.

Meanwhile, NebulaZ and Sand Pirate can capture the attention of family members for whom roller coasters may be too intense. A rock climbing wall, 18-hole mini-golf course and arcade games can round out an Adventuredome visit.
