‘Top Chef’ winner Jeremy Ford sets a new bar for dining on the Las Vegas Strip with his latest outpost

Jeremy Ford’s impact on the Las Vegas dining scene cannot be understated. In just a little over a year, his Stubborn Seed is the talk of the Strip, a gem of a restaurant that emphasizes its chef’s vegetable-forward philosophy while including a little something for every palate, all in a fun, welcoming space.

You’ll immediately feel the vibe once you step through the doors, thanks to the art deco decor and three-tiered ribbed-glass chandeliers, not to mention the glass-fronted kitchen for the curious. You’ll want a cocktail once you’re seated, and the libations here all have a playful approach, but that doesn’t diminish their deeply satisfying flavors. Enjoy options like the Negroni A La Ford with Del Maguey Vida mezcal, Campari, cocchi Americano and ancho chili liqueur, the Fennel Fields Forever with Belvedere vodka, St-Germain sour apple fennel juice, rosemary syrup and lime juice, and the Stubborn Seed Old-Fashioned with Jojo Tea-infused Redemption Rye Whiskey, five-spice syrup alterations and citrus aromas.

If it’s your first time here, you may want to put yourself in the chef’s hands with a tasting menu ($145 per person). You’ll start with Kalamata olive ciabatta, irresistibly delicious and served with whipped feta, Kalamata dust and pickled baby radish. Then it’s a

second course of sake- and citrus-cured Japanese yellowtail with chili ferment, crispy tapioca, compressed Asian pear and passion fruit buttermilk emulsion. A third course of harissa lamb fagottelli will make you swoon with its inclusion of ginger tomato emulsion, sweet hot peppers, pine nut dukkah and crispy leeks. The magnificence continues with fragrant spiced barramundi, accompanied by shiitake sofrito, asparagus, confit fennel and galangal curry, and then the crashing crescendo of Westholme Australian wagyu striploin in a brown butter soubise, paired with Desert Moon mushrooms, Marcona almonds and fermented soybeans.

Dessert, the citrus pavlova with olive oil cake, yuzu pastry cream, Cara Cara oranges and caramelized pistachios, is easily one of the best new treats on the Strip.

The Happy Hour menu is a real standout, where you can enjoy Iberico ham fritters with smoked paprika emulsion, Beau Soleil oysters with ginger and green apple mignonette, citrus foam and orange habanero hot sauce, and Sichuan spiced tempura maitake mushrooms with black pepper soy, furikake, shishito and black bean seasoning. –Ken Miller

New package from MGM Resorts makes return Vegas trips easy and economical

If you’ve ever wanted to book a quick getaway to Vegas, but all the hassle of rooms, parking, resort fees, dining, attractions and show tickets seems a little much to do in advance, then MGM Resorts International’s new allinclusive experience at Luxor and/or Excalibur is for you!

Once you secure your reservation online (the booking is double occupancy, and upgrades and weekend dates may cost more) and arrive in Vegas, check into the hotel to access all the vouchers associated with your stay. You’ll manage those through the MGM Rewards app (available on the Apple and Android platforms).

So, what are you able to do with your stay? To be honest, it’s pretty great, starting with the dining options, with a variety of restaurants not only at Excalibur and Luxor, but also options at Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand and New York-New York as well. (I’ve seen them all and they are all really good!) You’ll need to get these at the box office ahead of time using the app. Also included are tickets to the Big Apple Coaster at New York-New York, so make sure to carve out time to take a walk there on your trip (maybe before eating!).

Attraction offers exclusive Grand Prix viewing event

Even if F1 is not currently in Las Vegas, you can still experience the thrills of the sport at Grand Prix Sundays, a watch party series featuring live broadcasts, race replays and more at Grand Prix Plaza

All Aboard!

This Strip sightseeing tour is a one-of-a-kind experience

Being both a local and a writer that covers the city, it’s far and few between that I find new ways to view the Las Vegas Strip. Recently, I had such an opportunity—and it was totally fabulous!

I hopped aboard Cafe on the Strip, a unique experience that combines a scrumptious and cutesy high tea experience with a sightseeing tour of the famed Strip.

Tables that fit both couples and larger groups are set on the bottom and top of a double-decker bus, and the space is decked out in decor reminiscent of a quaint English-inspired cafe and garden. Huge windows provide optimal viewing of all the sights (but we suggest snagging a table on the top level for the best views). The tour rolls out from SAHARA Las Vegas, where you’ll board the bus, down the Strip all the way to the Welcome to Las Vegas sign and back. You’ll pass by all the iconic properties including Bellagio and its showstopping fountain show; The Venetian Resort with its waterways for the gondolas; the stunning Roman fountains in front of Caesars Palace; the bustling sidewalks in front of the city-inspired New York-New York hotel; the tropical scenes at Manda-

lay Bay; the city’s oldest operating property on the Strip, Flamingo; the massive pyramid of the Luxor and so much more. And as the bus continues to roll down the street, a recorded voice pumps through the speakers and shares stories, facts and anecdotes about each property—it’s a great way to learn about the Strip!

Actress, entrepreneur and more shares her story in special show

The legacy of Elvis Presley looms large over the city of Las Vegas. At any given time, perhaps more than a dozen Elvis impersonators are either performing weddings or busking on the Strip. His music appears in shows all over town to this day. Tribute shows continue to pop up (most recently at Westgate, the property where he cemented his Vegas legend when it was the International). And this week, Priscilla Presley, a huge part of his life, comes to the same property for a one-afternoon-only special event.

There’s far too much detail for Presley to possibly squeeze into one afternoon’s entertainment, but it’s very possible you’ll hear about:

Her role as a steward of Elvis’ legacy, including her work to develop Graceland as a public attraction.

Her television career, including her role as Jenna Wade on the hit series Dallas from 1983-1988. Her experience as a movie star, including the hilarious Naked Gun trilogy from 1988-1994.

Her work as an entrepreneur, including launching her own perfume fragrance, Moments, in 1988, and several others after that in the 1990s, as well as launching her own line of bed linens in 2006.

But one thing you’ll definitely hear: The voice of a woman who has lived a very full life, one that will command your attention from beginning to end. –Ken Miller

A Fight to Remember

Boxers with impressive résumés square off for Cinco de Mayo week

Cinco de Mayo week gets celebrated in serious fashion in Las Vegas with a Mexico vs. Mexico showdown between two boxing titans: Twodivision world champion David “El Monstro” Benavidez and unified WBA and WBO cruiserweight world champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez. The event is being televised on DAZN pay per view, but trust us: You’ll want to get tickets to see this fireworks display in person, as it shapes up to be one of the best fights of the year.

Both fighters have impressive resumes. Benavidez, 29, brings a record of 31-0-0 with 25 knockouts and a reach of 74 1/2 inches. Ramirez, 34, meanwhile, is 48-1-0 with 30 KOs and a 75-inch reach. The major difference between the fighters is weight—Benavidez clocks in at 175 pounds, while Ramirez is an even 200 pounds. This fight marks Benavidez’s move up from super middleweight. By the time the final bell rings, fight fans will have gotten their money’s worth.

The rest of the fight card is solid. There will also be a super middleweight title fight between Jose Armando Resendiz (16-2-0) and Jaime Munguia (42-2-0), as well as a super lightweight bout between Oscar Duarte (30-2-1) and Angel Fierro (244-2) and a super welterweight slugfest between Isaac Lucero (18-0-0) and Alan Sandoval (30-0-1). –Ken Miller

A Divine Evening

This dining experience gets a refresh to both the menu and entertainment

Mayfair Supper Club welcomes some new food, cocktails and entertainment, but the core fabulousness of the dining experience remains. This is where dining and drinking collide and every corner of the space buzzes with a feelgood, party energy.

“This is the Mayfair that everyone has loved for the last six years … but just like anything, people deserve to see new and fresh and bright and beautiful, and there was nothing wrong with what we were doing, but doing the same thing isn’t always the right thing,” says Warren Richards, executive director of food and beverage at Bellagio. “… This is a modern version of the supper club experience. It’s still gonna have that energy and vibe, but more elevated.”

One of the biggest changes to Mayfair Supper Club is the entertainment with the hiring of new theatrical production company Outside the Box Amusements, which brings in its troupe of distinct performers, musicians and singers. Throughout the evening, the dinner party unfolds with a look and feel that is very avant-garde, film-noir dreamscape. You’ll see unique specialty acts like a woman on pointe who balances on champagne bottles and a woman that performs aerial acts from a harness hooked to her hair. There’s singing, music, magical acts, DJs, come-

dy—a cornucopia of entertainment happening throughout the entire dining room and the unforgettable backdrop of the iconic fountains show aiding in the visual feast.

“Every corner of the venue comes to life,” Richards says. “It’s not a production show, though. It’s 15 entertainers over a course of six hours of time. Whenever you come in, you see a

chapter of a show that’s progressing. … There’s this undertone of things that are happening, a lot of unexpected things happening.”

With fresh entertainment comes fresh food and cocktails, too. Dig into the globally inspired menu with new specialty dishes from land and sea as well as new sushi options; but the guest favorite, various tableside preparations, remain. Don’t skip out on new dessert options, as some come with a cool

“You get everything in one place,” Richards says. “You can come here and have the best of both worlds—you’ll have fantastic food, fantastic cocktails. We have a huge wine list, too; it’s a great list. The quality of the performances while you’re having dinner is pretty unique. We’re not the first venue to do this, but I’d say we’re the freshest, and right now this is something that everyone should come see. If you enjoy the supper club, you’ll enjoy the changes we have here. … This is about showcasing this incredible production. Lead bartender grows career at one property

Many people who work in the Las Vegas food and beverage industry have a résumé that reads like a grocery list when it comes to the properties they’ve worked. Then there’s J.R. Gutierrez, lead bartender at Sugarcane at The Venetian Resort. The Mexico City native has built up his career at the same property since he moved to Vegas in 2008.

“The Venetian feels like home to me— this is where I started my career,” he says. He worked at a handful of restaurants

all over the property, starting out as a busser, then server, then, “One day at DB Brasserie, where I was a server, they needed help behind the bar and I stepped in as a barback. That was it—I just fell in love with bartending. I just knew I didn’t want to be a server anymore; I just wanted to be behind the bar.”

That was in 2014, and through hard work, on-the-job training and his love for mixology, Gutierrez became a full-time bartender at Sugarcane in 2016 and lead

Amalfi by Bobby Flay spices up Italian menu with coastal ingredients

When Bobby Flay opened his Amalfi by Bobby Flay at Caesars Palace in 2021, a whole host of Las Vegas movers, shakers and lowly media couldn’t wait to get a taste. After all, they were used to the high standards that Flay had set for his previous entry at Caesars Palace, his Southwest restaurant Mesa Grill, a longtime tenant of the resort.

Suffice it to say, they weren’t disappointed. Flay was concentrating on a whole different area of the globe with Amalfi, and the coastal Italian influence was welcomed. Inside Amalfi, you’ll find welcoming ocean blues and warm tones throughout the intimate restaurant, from the booths to the petite fishmongers’ stall, with icefilled, tiled containers showcas-

ing that day’s offerings, which you can choose in person.

As you peruse the menu, you’ll find a classic cocktail list with such items as the Negroni, a layered sip with PiùCinque gin, Cocchi Dopo Teatro vermouth and Cappelletti aperitivo, all Italian spirits. For something lighter, try a spritz, with the Amalfi spritz featuring Selim spumante, a sparkling wine from Campania, Cappelletti aperitivo and soda. Other varieties are concocted with Drusian prosecco, a sparkling wine made from hand-harvested grapes in Italy. There are also

several good beers, plus wine by the glass.

After you’ve decided on a cocktail, order an appetizer like the burrata with red pepper, Calabrian chili and hazelnut pesto. Calabrian chilis are versatile, adding a spicy little something wherever they are used, and have become a favorite ingredient in both restaurant menus and home kitchens over the last few years. Other tidbits to whet your appetite include fried artichokes, salmon carpaccio with pistachio breadcrumbs, and blue crab and eggplant with a fra diavolo vodka sauce. Salads include fava

bean and asparagus, chopped and baby romaine and kale.

On the pasta menu, you’ll find a variety of shapes and preparations, from the squid ink fettucine with lobster, shrimp and squid in fra diavolo sauce to pasta rags arrabiata. The flat pieces of pasta are accented with a tomato sauce with the aforementioned chili and bufala mozzarella. Agnolotti, trofie, cavatelli, rigatoni and scialatielli, an Amalfi coast staple that is traditionally served with seafood (here it comes shrimp scampi-style) are a few of the other choices.

That fish choice that you nailed down earlier is either roasted whole of filleted with choices of accompaniments

including Meyer lemon and capers; Calabrian chili pesto; or salsa verde. From experience, I can tell you that the presentation of the fish is thrilling for seafood lovers.

Amalfi also features chicken Parmigiana, a spice-charred veal rib chop and steak choices including N.Y. strip, bone-in ribeye and filet mignon. Order sides like asparagus gratin, green beans with Calabrian chili and cremini mushroom polenta with mascarpone, Parmigiano and white truffle oil.

Bring dinner to a delicious close with desserts like the triple lemon cake (my favorite) or the dark chocolate hazelnut cake, so rich and served with hazelnut gelato as well.

Lauper appears in her first Vegas residency

At the risk of dating myself, one of my earliest pop culture memories as a girl was singing and dancing along to the video for “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” Who can forget Cyndi Lauper dancing past her frustrated mother in the kitchen (played by her real mother!), then playfully pinning her father in the hallway (the late wrestler Captain Lou Albano, perfectly cast). By the time she brings the whole neighborhood to her bedroom for a dance party, we were all in on it, too. The outfits and ’do alone were aspirational for this kid from the ’burbs: fishnets and petticoats and bangles stacked to the elbow, asymmetrical, multihued hair that was obviously done by friends during a sleepover. That she’s arriving now, in the glow of her 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction and at the close of her Farewell Tour, makes us want to put on our dancing shoes and clear our calendar.

She’s calling it Cyn City. Naturally. Lauper has framed the shows as “an opportunity for fans who missed my Farewell Tour to celebrate one last time”—a heartfelt pitch that does away with the residency hype and speaks directly to the audience she’s spent decades earning. That audience has plenty of reason to show up excited. Just months ago, Lauper stood on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame stage in L.A., inducted by Chappell Roan, who told the room they were honoring “a woman who redefined what a pop star could look like, sound like, sing like, and be.”

Her induction set—all-female, featuring Avril Lavigne, Salt-N-Pepa, Gina Schock on drums and Lisa Coleman on keys—closed with a duet of “Time After Time” alongside British breakout RAYE, their voices braided

across a generational gap that Lauper knows how to bridge. The performance, luminous and poignant, explains why a song from 1984 is as beloved and covered by artists who have come up since.

At The Colosseum, she’ll have the production scale to match. The venue—which has hosted Celine Dion, Adele and Elton John, among others—offers both grandeur and intimacy. Expect “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “True Colors” and “Time After Time,” but Lauper has hinted the show will carry the spirit of her Farewell Tour while evolving for the Vegas stage.

What makes Lauper such a natural fit for this city is something harder to manufacture than production value: She has never once performed as anyone other than exactly herself. Her Vegas stint is brief. But then, so was that video—four minutes and change that somehow stayed with this girl all these years.

Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens' spring exhibit combines myriad elements for an engaging whole

Spring in Las Vegas is a very special time and, each year, Bellagio designs a fresh tribute to the season. This year in the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens, experience Springtime Symphony: Music in Motion, where everything from enormous Fabergé eggs to a carousel brings the lighthearted feel of the season to the attraction. “Spring has a way of turning even the smallest details into something magical,” said designer Ed Libby in a statement. “We are always looking for new ways to raise the bar and evolve the guest experience, and this display brings more movement and life to the garden than ever before. As guests wander through, every element, from stained glass to carousel horses, feels like it’s part of a story waiting to be told.”

Introducing the theme is the north bed, where an oversize page of sheet music lays at the foot of a music box upon which Catrina the ballerina slowly spins. The flowers here are, fittingly, jewel-box colors with deep green foliage. Behind Catrina, a screen plays images of lavender and natural scenes. At the end of the bed, a fountain adorns a pond, and a giant hummingbird hovers over a pansy made of 2,000 carna tion blooms (not pictured).

Popovich Comedy Pet Theater is a delight for all ages

A goose. A miniature horse. A bunch of cats who think rules are for dogs.

Welcome to Popovich Comedy

Pet Theater, the most joyfully chaotic show on the Las Vegas Strip. It’s a riot of fur, feathers and laughter, led by a genial ringmaster who clearly never heard the old showbiz adage: “Never work with children or animals—they’ll steal the spotlight.”

Gregory Popovich, a fifth-generation circus performer from Kyiv, Ukraine, has spent most of his life juggling, clowning and touring with some of the biggest names in the business, including the Great Moscow Circus and Ringling Bros. An appearance on America’s Got Talent got him to the semifinals. These days, he shares the stage with a more unconventional cast: a rotating squad of cats, dogs, birds, mice and more. All of them rescues, none of them particularly interested in stage directions … and that’s when hilarity ensues.

During the show, Popovich—an affable, slightly rumpled man with the energy of a favorite uncle who always seems to be fetching a quarter behind someone’s ear or doing a backflip at the backyard barbecue— juggles bowling pins and balances on ladders while dogs scamper out of windows, cats leap through hoops and birds perform suspiciously intelligent tricks. There are sight gags, slapstick bits, balancing tricks and physical comedy routines that feel borrowed

from another era—in the best way possible. Popovich drifts through it all with a kind of gentle mischief, playing the exasperated straight man to his unruly animal companions.

And the audience can’t get enough of it. During a recent afternoon performance, the theater was filled with families and tourists of all ages. There was lots of laughter, punctuated by delighted squeals from the littles in the front row.

What truly elevates the show beyond novelty is its emotional core. These aren’t just animals trained to do tricks; they appear, unbelievably, to be enjoying themselves. For all his big-top silliness and undeniable physical-comedy skills, Popovich’s real talent lies in his ability to connect with the animals on a deep level. His love for them is palpable, from the way he gently shuttles puppies off the stage to the way he gives a cat or a bird a peck after a trick well done. His name may be on the marquee, but Popovich happily gives his furry friends their time in the spotlight. This circus is also a family business. His daughter, Anastasia, performs alongside him, and at home, the family cares for more animals, all rescues from shelters. Popovich Comedy Pet Theater has called Planet Hollywood home for 15 seasons and has been seen in more than 20 countries.

In a city whose entertainment is built on illusion and a significant amount of pyrotechnics, Popovich Comedy Pet Theater is a breath of fresh air. It doesn’t rely on spectacle so much as affection, and at the heart of it is one man’s love for all creatures great and small.

It just might be the sweetest hour you’ll spend on the Las Vegas Strip.
